A group of Year 7-12 students recently had the opportunity to visit Te Korokoro o te Tūī performance facilitythe world of professional music and media production. Throughout the day, students were able to record their own original compositions, working alongside experienced university lecturers who shared their knowledge and expertise. The group also learned the ins and outs of music production and had hands-on experience in filming live performances, gaining valuable insight into what happens behind the scenes of the music industry. This was not only an exciting creative outlet but also a fantastic opportunity for students to get a real taste of what future pathways in the music and media industries could look like.
On Sunday and Monday the Senior A netball team competed in the Otago Secondary Schools tournament in Dunedin. We played three games on Saturday against Blue Mountain, Bayfield and East Otago. We had a good win against East Otago and two other close games.
On Sunday we played Roxburgh and Lawrence, winning both games comfortably. We finished the competition 3rd in our grade.
It was a great couple of days and was good practice for South Island Secondary Schools later in the year.

Tokomairiro High School Newsletter...
SCHOOL MISSION: Inspiring Excellence in Education, in Character and in Life.
It’s Week 8 of our nine-week term, and while we are heading into the final stretch, there’s still plenty happening here at school. Last week, a group of students visited Otago University as part of a music department trip. They returned feeling inspired after connecting with university staff and exploring new opportunities. It’s always great to see students looking ahead and exploring possible pathways.
Cultural House Competition – Wednesday
This Wednesday we’ll hold our annual Cultural House Competition – always one of the most anticipated days of the school year. Each house will perform our school waiata, haka, and, for the first time, a Matariki waiata. We’re looking forward to seeing the passion and pride that always shines through in these performances.
Community Contributions
Our Year 7/8 Gig class has finished their Bags of Hope project, with these bags now ready to be handed over to the Cancer Society. Last Friday, a number of our Year 9/10 students also spent time volunteering for Hato Hone, St John at Milton 4 Square. These acts of service reflect the values we hold as a school and make a real impact beyond the school gates.
Tetra Pak Recycling
Our Tetra Pak recycling team have been hard at work this term again and have processed 95 cartons this term, taking the total to 205 for the year so far. It’s a fantastic initiative that keeps waste out of landfill. Clean Tetra Paks can continue to be brought into school and added to our collection bins. The team will continue their mahi next term.
Our Senior Netball team competed in the Otago Secondary Schools competition last week and did us proud, finishing third in their grade. It was a great effort and a reflection of the hard work they will travel to compete in the South Island Secondary Schools Tournament Week journey.
Attendance and Winter Illness
With winter firmly upon us, it's a good time to revisit our guidance around illness. If your child has a fever, vomiting, diarrhoea, or a persistent heavy cough, they should stay home until they are well. If symptoms are mild and manageable, students are generally fine to be at school. While we understand that some absence is unavoidable, we want to reiterate that every day at school counts. Regular attendance is key to success. If your child is missing school regularly, for any reason, please reach out – we’re here to help.

News from the Trenches...
And BOOM, just like that we have reached the final week for our Super Sports Comp with last round of games. I have it on good authority the front runners are starting to get stressed due to the pressure. There is a candidate who is having a strong finish to the comp and from what I understand he prefers to come from behind. All will be revealed on Saturday 5th July from 6pm onwards. Don't forget we are selling tickets for our Corporate Couch where you will be treated like royalty. Speaking of sporting clashes don't forget the battle Royale vs Milton Fire Brigade on Friday 27th June so put your name down. There will be a team meeting to discuss cunning tactics just before the games begin at 7pm.
Now we have a member who has been undertaking some daredevil activities namely sky diving, however it was postponed due to the ground being too close!!! Also same member suffered a horrific injury at work, severe cut of their finger. While removing the bandage to check the wound was healing nicely, the bandage was put on a different finger.
Our Thursday night raffle has been selling ridiculously quickly along with our Jackpot which is getting close to the level where you need to be here. Our membership draw has been struck quite often which reflects on the large crowd congregating on a Thursday night. You'd be foolish if you were anywhere else.
I do have other stories to recite, but I've been threatened with legal action if I print these. The list of those I'm not allowed to mention is getting longer by the week, due to threats of physical violence and lawyer's involved.

Milton Sub Assn Indoor Bowls
Only one week left to find the winner of the J. K. Clark Interclub Shield when Glenledi play Moneymore, and at this stage they are even on points. Last week saw Glenledi and Country Club tie, the first round Glenledi had a win and loss 12-4 and 4-10 and the same happened in the second round 12-7 and 6-11.
The South Island team was named on Thursday with four South Otago players being named. Alanna Moffit, Hannah Botting, Jane Wintringham and Robert Wilson. They will play a test against the North Island in early August.

Toko Rugby Report
On Saturday in cool sunny conditions, an ambush was set by the town of Kaitangata as they lay in wait for Toko Premiers to arrive. And smack they did!!! Toko started off strongly with a Jimmy Agnew try to open the scoring before Crescent unleashed with their power runners in the forwards and crafty intelligence in the backs. Toko were only behind 18-10 at halftime before Crescent upped the ante in the second half to flex their championship credentials as a worthy opponent. Toko's only try scorer was Damon Clement in the second half as Crescent ran out comfortable winners 39-15 to secure the Eddie Scott trophy for 2025. For Toko it was being brought back to reality and gave the team a bleeding nose to realize what they need to do. Best on field was Dylan Greer, closely followed by Liam Kingma and Jimmy Agnew. In the backs, they was no fluidity and only lightening Lockie Finch stood out.
Next week they have a chance to rectify the situation as they take on Owaka at home in a must win situation. Make sure you are there on Saturday as it's Club Day with all our Junior teams displaying their range of wonderful skills. This will be a cracking day of footy that you won't want to miss.
