As part of our Conservation topic this term the Homeroom classes collected plastic bottle tops. With the help of Mrs McIntyre who drew our Tui outline we used hammer and nails to put each bottle top in place. We are so happy with how it looks and now just need to find the right space for it to go up on display!
Every day counts towards your child’s learning at school. Attending school gives your child the best opportunity to realise their full potential and do well in life.
Who can I contact for health advice?
If you ever feel worried about your child’s health, contact your doctor or healthcare provider. You can also call Healthline on 0800 611 116 anytime, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, for free health advice, treatment and information about what to do next.
The guidance provided by Te Whatu Ora also contains information and links to other urgent and non-urgent healthcare providers or services that can offer the health advice and care that you need. Do I need to inform the school if I keep my child home from school?
Yes. It’s important to let the school know that your child won’t be at school and to explain why.
Due to a technology upgrade, there will be no Genesis on Wednesday 31st July. The Genesis office will be closed and emails will not be checked between Monday 29th July and Friday 2nd August.
Taking risks in class and performing for an audience teach students to trust their ideas and abilities. The confidence gained in drama applies to school, career, and life. This term the Ms Freeman’s Year 7/8 class dived into the arena of Fractured Fairy Tales, creating a whole back story for their character. The students showed creativity while having fun and learning to sustain a role.
It was wonderful to watch each student grow in confidence and push themselves to step out of their comfort zone. Ka mau te wehi!

The media frequently reports that New Zealand schools have some of the highest rates of bullying globally.
While it's easy to assume that everyone understands what bullying is, the term is often used to describe various aggressive behaviors. This misuse can complicate efforts by schools and caregivers to address actual bullying when it occurs.
The most widely accepted definitions of bullying highlight four key elements: it is intentional, harmful, involves a power imbalance, and is repetitive. Bullying can occur anywhere, whether in person or online (cyberbullying), at any time, and can take verbal, physical, or social (relational) forms.
Our school firmly believes that bullying is never acceptable under any circumstances. We also believe that the best way to combat bullying is through a united school community effort.
To do this effectively, we need a common understanding of what bullying is, the ability to recognize when it is happening, and appropriate responses. Developing a culture of upstanders is a powerful approach.
An upstander is someone who sees something wrong and takes action to correct it. When an upstander witnesses or learns about bullying, they intervene by stopping the bully, reporting the incident, or supporting the victim afterward.
On the other hand, a bystander is someone who observes bullying but does nothing to stop it. Those who laugh at a bully's hurtful comments or stay silent when they see bullying are bystanders, and their inaction contributes to the problem.

We recognize that there are many reasons someone might not become an upstander, such as fear of retaliation or social exclusion. However, our school provides ways for students to report bullying to trusted adults safely.
I believe that if I asked any student in our school whether bullying is acceptable, they would say no. By working together as a school community, we can make a difference.

Last week, Mr Samson, his wife Rose, their daughter and her partner made a start on clearing out the old swimming pool site behind the Genesis office on the corner of Park Road. They felled a couple of trees, opening the area up. This is part of the work that will be carried out in the next few months to create an appealing frontage to the school.
The Genesis is a free publication, delivered weekly to homes and businesses in Milton, and is available on the school website, Facebook or via email. The Genesis office is open Tuesday 8:30am - 3:30pm and Wednesday 8:30-12. This time of the season playing off for the bottom four in the semi final can be a struggle motivation wise as Lawrence and Toko clashed for the 3rd time this season.
In beautiful conditions which were open for running rugby, both teams looked to play expansively. Toko opened the scoring with brilliant individual try to Jared Hayes. Toko then chose to not take three kickable penalties which would have given a strong lead. Lawrence responded with two tries for a 12-7 halftime lead.
In the second half Lawrence dominated both possession and territory to go out to a seemingly strong 27-12 lead after a try to Dylan Greer partway through the second half. As is typical of this season, Toko Premiers responded with typical resilience to score two late tries to Damon Clement and Jacky Scott with the conversion just missed at the full-time whistle which meant Toko just missed out 27-26 to finish their season.
For Toko, Billy Greer along with Tim Smaill has massive games in the forwards with Jared Hayes and Jacky Scott dangerous in the backs. This has completed the 2024 season where it's been concluded by supporters as being a good effort introducing new players as we missed 15 from last year and had major injuries with up to 12 players missing during the year. Lots of positive moving forward to our 125th Jubilee next year.
This season concludes on Saturday 27th July with our annual prize giving night which is always a fantastic occasion. Get along to purchase your tickets.

Sunday afternoon is just the perfect environment for finding out all the information relating to what's happening around town.
Our World Famous Tipping Comp concludes this week with Club Rugby finals West Taieri vs Valley and Owaka vs Lawrence doing battle. These along with our other matches will ensure a tight finish for the winner. I've had it on very good assurance that the leaders are starting to feel the pressure as there is a huge chasing pack coming home strong. All will be revealed on Friday 2nd August as to who will reign supreme. This promises to be a highlight of the year with a special presentation along with the best meal being served that night. Also make sure you wear your favourite rugby jersey that night.
The All Black sweepstake hasn't been struck and will jackpot to this week match. So get your entry in.
But back to the Sunday afternoon discussions, the Mayor of Waihola disappears quickly in case he gets implicated. But there have been further discussion regarding hands and how many items can fit in one hand or whether two are necessary. My legal representatives have threatened I may be sued if I continue, so I’d better stop now.
Come down on a Sunday for the unrestricted discussion.
