On the last day of term three, Homeroom celebrated their Olympics and Students were put into teams that represented a different country. We had an Opening Ceremony to begin with and then children rotated around different events to try and earn points for their team. These included skipping race, gumboot throw, bean bag target, basketball knockout and hockey dribble. We finished with a team challenge. Points were tallied up and we had a Closing Ceremony to award our medals.

BYOD for 2025

For a number of years we have been one of the very few schools in the country toprovide all our students with a chromebook for them to use at school. However, we have come to the tough decision that this is no longer a financially sustainable option for us therefore we will be moving to a Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) system for 2025.

Shearing Skills Course

For two days over the school holidays, the Science Department and Brendon Potae took Year 11 Agriculture students to learn about all aspects of shearing. Students had to get up early and worked hard helping shear sheep for the Wightmans near Lawrence.

Thank you very much to everyone who helped make this happen - the students learnt a lot and are very grateful for the opportunity.

Year 7 and 8 students will still have access to a chromebook during the school day but it is recommended that all older students bring their own device to school. Details of appropriate devices are available on the school website and students will need to complete a BYOD agreement which is available on the website or at the office. Our preferred supplier is Noel Leeming who has a selection of devices that meet the criteria. They have already let us know that they will be having some specials available over the coming weeks with Black Friday and Cyber Monday approaching.

SCHOOL MISSION: Inspiring Excellence in Education, in Character and in Life.

As we head into our final term of the year we are starting to plan for 2025 and this week in assembly we heard from some of our Year 12 students who would like to be part of our 2025 Prefect Team.

We also announced in assembly that the application process for the 2025 House Leader positions is now open. These positions are available for all students who will be in years 9 to 13 next year.

However, before we get to the end of the year, we have a lot to look forward to this term. Even though it is a short one, we are fitting a lot in. Next week all our Year 7 and 8 students will be going to camp. Academically there will be the NCEA external exams as well as testing for all other students. We will be welcoming the Year 6 students who are enrolled to start in 2025 for an Orientation Morning and we are busy planning end of year activities.

Building Upgrades

Starting later this term and over the summer break we will be doing a substantial amount of building and maintenance work around the school. The Science labs will be getting new windows, and upgrades to their plumbing and electrical systems, the roof on B Block is going to be replaced, new carpet is going to be installed in the library and C Block and the outside of the hall is going to be painted. This will mean that towards the end of the term some of our campus will become out of bounds.

Lighting and Sound Upgrade

Earlier in the year we applied for a grant to upgrade the lighting and sound system in the hall. Our application was initially deferred but last week we received the fabulous news that our application had been

approved. This means that we will be upgrading the sound system and the stage lighting in the hall for the start of 2025. We are very grateful to The Trust Community Foundation for their generosity and are confident that the new lighting and sound equipment will be well used for many years to come.

2025 Junior Course Selection

All students who will be in Years 9 and 10 next year will be receiving their course selection booklet next week. There are multiple new courses available which look very exciting. We have also added some clearer criteria around the mix or courses that students choose. Students will be shown how to enter their course selection on the Portal and selections need to be completed by November 1st. If you have any questions regarding the process or the courses please do not hesitate to contact us

Lake to Sea Bike Ride

It was with a very heavy heart that the decision to cancel this year's bike ride was made. But given the recent weather and the dangerous conditions the safety of the riders could not be guaranteed and postponement was not an option. Griff and his team along with members of our PTA have put in a tremendous amount of time and effort into the preparations for this event and we are so grateful to them all.

Enrolments for 2025

We are now welcoming enrolments for 2025 for students who will be in Years 7 to 13. Enrolment packs are available at the school office and enrolment interviews can also be booked through the school office.

News from the Trenches...

Well looks like last week’s column has caused all sorts of problems, especially with Nora Batty. I've even offered to apologize via this column to the person concerned with a personal admission by naming them. Apparently that would have caused greater concern. Legal teams are now in consultation.

Well, well, well, if you notice a lot of stressed people who frequent the RSA, it's because they are leading candidates of our NPC Tipping Comp and the results have all turned belly up this week. If you picked all home teams, you have had a disaster. But did anyone listen to Woody who advised certain people of potential upsets. So this week who knows what to do?? There could potentially be 15 entrants within 5 points of the lead. All will be revealed on Friday 1 November at prize giving.

Maybe these candidates should just relax and pick a Spud as these are still available for our World Famous Comp so grab a Spud and get planting. Also coming up in a couple of weeks is the Melbourne Cup so make sure you are there to watch great race.

We also have the latest fashion accessory with stylish RSA vests up for sale and these look fantastic. Compo has been modelling these, he's looking years younger, rumour has it, there could be a young lady keeping him in line.

So finally we would love to get some volunteer drivers for our van on a Friday night, more that offer means you don't have to do it more often. It's always a good source of stories for this column, so if any driver has anything then they know how to pass it onto Information Headquarters and I'll buy them a beer for best truthful yarn
