Annual unit inspections help keep you safe
Annual unit inspections are required by law. Toronto Community Housing is starting the 2026 inspections in July. They will run until the end of the year. Annual inspections help keep you safe by identifying unsafe unit conditions, property damage, and more. Staff will identify any accessibility items and modifications in units. Staff will also make note of any E-Devices in your home, including E-Bikes.
A 24-hour notice of entry will be provided. If you are not feeling well, please let your superintendent or the Client Care Centre know. They will reschedule the inspection.
For more information
To get more information about the 2026 unit inspections, please contact your superintendent or the Client Care Centre. You can also learn more on our website at torontohousing.ca/inspections.

Balcony and window safety
Please enjoy your balcony and windows responsibly during warm weather. This includes cleaning them up and removing items you have been storing. We will inspect your balcony during upcoming unit inspections.

Barbeques are not allowed on balconies or in common areas. They are a fire hazard.
Never throw anything off your balcony, including garbage and cigarette butts.
Window locks and screens keep you safe.

Do not store property or attach items, including tarps, to balconies. It is a fire hazard.

Window locks are used in apartment buildings to protect people and pets from falling through. Windows can be opened 4 inches (or about 10 centimetres) to let in fresh air while keeping you safe. Window screens are not strong enough to stop things from falling through.

• Altering window locks or screens is against your lease. It could lead to eviction.
• You may be charged to fix any alterations.

Fire safety hazards
Your unit door is a fire door. Fire doors are required to fully close and latch. Leaving fire doors open allows smoke and fire to spread into the unit, causing damage to your property. Check that your door is secure. If it isn’t, notify your superintendent or call the Client Care Centre at 416-981-5500 (TRS 7-1-1).
