“This is a contemporary pop piece about light. Emojis are among the most ubiquitous forms of pop art in the world today. I used emoji faces from sad to enlightened. In black to white with purple as the main color.

The fluorescent on the base of each box reflects light permanently.

I’ve always considered it among my very best. It’s from my personal collection.”

I wanted to use the houndstooth design for a long time.

When I did, the only color I could think of to compliment the black and white, was orange…which reminded me of Coco Chanel.

I decided to use the color of putty on the edges and the fluorescent orange permanently glows. Like a slinky model wearing houndstooth….. sexy and sophisticated.

PEDESTALS

Since 1987….I’ve created more table pedestals in unique and original configurations than anything I have done.

I enjoy them because they give me more instant gratification in they conclude much quicker than larger pieces. Also, they are small and beautiful and don’t take up much space…..like pieces of candy.

“I had the idea to do this for many years.

The design just seemed to lend itself to the movement of a slam dunk. I finally got it done and love the results. It incorporates everything I love...pop art, movement, light, color, beauty, balance and of course, basketball. ”

It was (and is) a purely abstract 3-D sculpture using three dimensional design elements like rods and globes.... I’ve always found this piece fun and intriguing with lots of potential for an entire series of work.”
