Joey Brown,

“When I was a little girl, I never imagined that I would fall for a geek — but it happened and I wouldn’t change anything. Joey is the yin to my yang for sure!

We have been married 8 years and have 2 kids — age 3 and 6 months. Joey has been the BEST husband and father I could have ever imagined.

He challenges me to be a better person every day and his qualities as a father are remarkable. He is willing to help with ANYTHING and is usually the first to get up in the middle of the night if either of our kids wakes up! This, in itself, is an amazing trait for any man! Joey has always strived to provide for our family — and even with a demanding full-time job, he still manages to make time for me and our children.”

Age: 67

“My husband worked at Bank of Louisville/BB&T for 35 years. He retired 6 years ago. I am a full-time executive who works long hours and is constantly on the go for work events. Every morning my husband makes sure that I start my day in a calm and relaxing way.

He gently coaxes me out of bed, has my coffee waiting for me on a small table beside a recliner chair in our bedroom, and has our bedroom fireplace going so the room is toasty when I get up. We sit and relax for about 30 minutes before the hectic day begins. When I come downstairs to breakfast, it is ready and waiting for me. On the weekends, when it is warm outside, he has coffee, a mimosa, and fresh waffles with fruit waiting on the deck for me when I get up. He understands how hard I work during the week and takes on all the grocery shopping and numerous errands throughout the week. He is extremely thoughtful all year long with gifts, cards, and flowers. At least twice a month, I come home to beautiful roses on the kitchen table for no particular reason. We are celebrating our 30th anniversary in December and I am a very lucky lady to be married to this wonderful man.”

“Mike and I married when he was 17, and I was 16. We have been married 36 years and have raised two amazing sons. Eight years ago, when our youngest was in his second year of college, I asked Mike to make a sacrifice and open our home and our lives to my 10 year-old niece. He never faltered, and thoroughly agreed that she needed us, and so we gave up our empty nest and started over with a 4th grade girl. He has made a difference in the life of Ginny and has given her a positive male influence. This was in the midst of a life change for him as well. Mike had worked for DuPont in Louisville for over 20 years and his job was being eliminated. He had decided to pursue a life dream and went to college as a very non-traditional student in a non-traditional career. Mike graduated from Indiana University Southeast with a BS degree in Nursing at 52.”

Age: 34

“Sean is a great husband because he will never stop trying to achieve his dreams. His passion is infectious, and it has rubbed off on me. He gave up his teaching career to pursue his dream of owning his own business. Regardless of what people said, and how many obstacles were put in his way, he didn’t give up. He inspired me to follow my dreams and join him in the business. Now, almost three years later, we are running our own small business, and seeing growth every year.”

Age: 42

“Dan is an exceptional family man!

He loves to show his affection for his wife and daughter! I am so lucky that I am on the receiving end of this gift that he continues to give. He is selfless and devoted. Dan loves being a husband, dad, and best friend! He feels so blessed to have us in his life, but we are the lucky ones for having him in ours. A great example of Dan’s greatness: Our daughter Ruby Jane (20 months) took a trip with me last month to NC to visit my family. Dan was unable to come because he was traveling for work. This was going to be Ruby Jane’s first trip to the beach.

We arrived at my brother’s house on Friday only to be greeted by Dan! He surprised us and made the trip!! He did not want to miss Ruby Jane’s first time dipping her toes in the ocean. She still talks about going to the beach with her daddy.

It is a memory none of us will forget.”

David Muhammad,

“David and I have been married for almost 14 years. Throughout our marriage, he has strived to put family first, and make God the center of our house. We have three children: Elijah, 12, Joshua, 9, and Imani, 3. David is a wonderful father. Since the birth of our first son he has worked third shift and kept our children during the day until they were school age. He currently works third shift and keeps our daughter during the day. This great man works 12-hour shifts and gets about 4 hours of rest a day. He still finds time to work out at the gym and spend time with the family.

This wonderful man supported me and our family while I finished graduate school. During graduate school, I worked full-time and he continued to work full-time third shift. On top of working, he kept the children, cleaned the house, and cooked while I worked during the day and went to classes at night.”

“He’s a selfless husband. He is a caring, gentle, macho man. He is a very hard worker. He always has taken pride in our home, our beautiful yard, cars, and himself. He is strong physically and mentally.

He takes time to decide on making the right decision on our many decisions we have had to face in our life together. For 26 years has treated me like a goddess. He has always put my wants and needs first. He has never wavered in his love for me. To me he is the epitome of a great husband!”

Larry Wooldridge,

Age: 49

“Larry and I are celebrating our 25th anniversary this summer. We met in high school, fell in love, and have been together since. We began dating in 1981 and married in 1987. He welcomes my cold feet on his warm legs every night in bed. He knows how I drink my coffee each morning, and has never left without kissing me, looking into my eyes and saying, “I love you.” He makes the best homemade veggie pizza, and we finish it with my favorite bottle of wine. He loves and nurtures our 3 amazing sons. He rocks — literally — he and the boys are also in their own band “The Wooldridge Brothers Band.” They play at Abbey Road on the River each year.
