ABOUT THE KEMPER MUSEUM OF CONTEMPORARY ART

With a mission statement, “Enriching lives through the experience of contemporary art, the Kemper Museum of Contemporary Art exhibits, collects, and educates in a free and welcoming environment.”

The Kemper Museum of Contemporary Art, designed by Gunnar Birkerts, was opened to the public in October 1994, and its permanent collection has as its core the Bebe and Crosby Kemper Collection and a gift from the museum’s co-founders, the late R. Crosby Kemper and his wife, Bebe Kemper, and the Kemper Foundations. These collections are complemented by close to a dozen special exhibitions in the Kemper galleries each year.

In shaping its Permanent Collection, the museum strives to reflect the vitality, complexity, and unfolding patterns within modern and contemporary art. In selecting its exhibitions, the museum strives to represent national and international aesthetic and cultural diversity.
