FROM THE PUBLISHER

AN INVITATION TO EXPLORE W

hat makes the Main Line so special? For me, it’s the people, the places and the fact that there’s always something new to discover. That’s why I love our annual Ultimate Guide to the Main Line. Consider this your go-to guide for getting out, exploring and experiencing more of this incredible community we call home. We all have our favorites—the restaurant where we always order the same thing, the shop we’ve loved for years, the neighborhood we know by heart. But one of the best things about living here is that there’s always another great eatery to try, a new business opening its doors, a hidden gem to uncover or an experience we’ve somehow missed. My challenge to you: Try something new. Make that reservation. Visit the boutique you’ve been meaning to check out. Explore a different corner of the Main Line region. And most importantly, support the local businesses and people who bring so much energy, creativity and personality to our community. At Main Line Today, we’re fortunate to tell those stories all year long. And after stepping into the publisher’s role this year, I’ve gained an even greater appreciation for just how much there is to celebrate. So keep this issue handy. Dog-ear a few pages, make a list and get out there. The Main Line region isn’t just a place—it’s an experience. Now go enjoy it!

GET TO KNOW US

OUR TOWNS

The Main Line region is a dynamic patchwork of vibrant dining and shopping hubs, upscale neighborhoods, and historic main streets.

Located along West Chester Pike with direct access to I-476, these neighboring towns offer reasonably priced homes and a relatively easy commute to Philadelphia. Locally known as the 33rd county of Ireland, Havertown boasts a robust Irish population—and a lively summer celebration to go with it. Broomall is popular with young families.

BRYN MAWR

Just two stops west of Ardmore on the commuter rail line, Bryn Mawr is home to some fine private schools and nationally ranked Bryn Mawr College. It oozes

small-town charm, with estate homes lining quaint streets. There’s also a top-rated hospital and the utterly unique Bryn Mawr Film Institute.

CONSHOHOCKEN

Located just north of the core Main Line on a bend in the Schuylkill River, Conshohocken’s blue-collar roots have been overwhelmed by a swarm of white-collar young professionals drawn to its restaurants, bar scene and more affordable living options. Access to Center City is an on-ramp away via I-76, and top-notch dining is the norm.

PHOENIXVILLE Young families and millennials can’t get enough of affordable Phoenixville. Its thriving downtown has undergone a food and beverage renaissance, with distilleries and breweries popping up everywhere— especially along Bridge Street. And with all the new housing options, there’s little downside to this former steel town.

KENNETT SQUARE

Known as the Mushroom Capital of the World after the product that sustains its surrounding farms, Kennett Square has grown considerably thanks to its affordability, walkability and family-friendly vibe. State Street offers an array of shopping and dining options, and the world-renowned Longwood Gardens isn’t far from town.

DEVON, BERWYN & PAOLI

This trio of relatively low-key hamlets along Lancaster Avenue feeds off the notoriety of Devon Yard, which includes the high-end shopping destinations Anthropologie and Terrain, plus upscale dining and more. The complex is adjacent to the Devon Horse Show grounds, the oldest and largest outdoor multi-breed equestrian competition in the country. West of Devon, hot spots like Nectar, Clay’s Creative Corner Bakery and the Hung Vuong Food Market make Berwyn a draw for exceptional edibles. Known more as a residential and rail hub, Paoli has gotten a boost thanks to a long-awaited upgrade of its train station.

WEST CHESTER Touted as the western suburbs’ hottest town, West Chester offers history, a sizzling real estate market, excellent schools, and a quaint downtown with brick sidewalks, great dining and drinking scenes, and a full slate of annual events. The borough is also the seat of Chester County and home to West Chester University, the largest state-owned school in Pennsylvania.

ARDMORE

ALL PH OTOS BY ED WI LLIAMS

Ardmore benefits from convenient commuter access to Center City Philadelphia and a surplus of dining, entertainment and shopping options. Established in 1928 as one of the first shopping centers in the United States, Suburban Square boasts a unique mix of restaurants and upscale retailers and boutiques. Ardmore Music Hall (pictured) lures national and regional music headliners, and high-end apartment complexes give the town a more urban feel. Merion Golf Club, meanwhile, has hosted five U.S. Open tournaments, with another in 2030.

EXTON & DOWNINGTOWN

What the unincorporated Exton lacks in a proper downtown, it makes up for in one of the region’s nicer train stations, the walkable Main Street complex, the 14-mile Chester Valley Trail, Chester County Library, and loads of shopping and dining options. Plenty of upscale apartment complexes and high-end townhomes support the upwardly mobile. Two stops west, Downingtown boasts a cozy downtown, good schools

and the award-winning Victory Brewing Company’s original location. Eagleview Town Center offers some excellent dining options on a well-utilized town square just minutes from Marsh Creek State Park and Struble Trail.

MALVERN

Just a few miles west of Paoli, Malvern’s robust shopping and dining scene is centered on King Street, with its charming eateries, unique boutiques

CHADDS FORD & GLEN MILLS The late Andrew Wyeth’s Pennsylvania hometown is enjoying the fruits of the revitalized Chadds Ford Barn Shops, where a bakery and cafe, artisans, and serviceoriented businesses comingle. Chadds Ford is also home to Brandywine Museum of Art, Brandywine Battlefield State Park and the John Chads House. A few miles away, Glen Mills is booming with new growth in every sector.

VILLANOVA & ST. DAVIDS Nine months out of the year, these Radnor Township neighbors play host to students at Villanova University (pictured). Both offer a traditional Main Line vibe sprinkled with historic homes and modern amenities.

and reputable galleries. The town is quaint but sophisticated and accessible by commuter rail seven days a week.

NEWTOWN SQUARE

Once a sleepy crossroads town, Newtown Square is experiencing a major revitalization. The 218-acre Ellis Preserve offers multiuse event space, shops, restaurants and more. High-end living options are another draw. Adding to the appeal: nearby Ridley Creek State Park and the prestigious Aronimink Golf Club, host of the 2026 PGA Championship.

GLADWYNE

Given the hilly, heavily wooded setting, it’s easy to forget that Gladwyne’s hyperupscale neighborhoods are so close to I-76, affording easy access to Center City. One of the wealthiest zip codes in the country, it’s also home to Philadelphia Country Club and numerous sprawling estates and awe-inspiring mansions.

HAVERFORD

Beautiful estate homes define this old-school suburban enclave. You’ll also find the esteemed Haverford School and the mini-Ivy-caliber Haverford College, along with Merion Golf Club and Merion Cricket Club, both bastions of Main Line tradition. Founded in 1865, the latter offers squash, lawn tennis and (of course) cricket.

The nexus of one of the largest, most successful malls in the country, King of Prussia is well on its way to becoming a mini city of its own. At KOP’s walkable Town Center, a park-like courtyard area hosts free concerts and movie screenings in warm weather. If you’re looking for more trees and hills, Valley Forge National Historical Park (pictured) is minutes

MANAYUNK & BALA CYNWYD

away. It’s home to George Washington’s Revolutionary War encampment, along with a popular network of hiking and biking trails.

MEDIA

Thanks to its many festivals and community events, Media is one of the liveliest towns in the region. A community sensibility and plenty of parking mesh well with its walkability, making it a draw for younger families, empty-nesters and Philadelphians looking to settle in an accessible suburban enclave. Lined with restaurants and a handful of boutiques, State Street is the borough’s busy center. The trolley line completes the cozy, old-timey vibe.

NARBERTH & WYNNEWOOD Just 10-15 minutes to Philadelphia by train, Narberth and Wynnewood balance small-town charm and urban sophistication, making both an easier transition for former city dwellers. Narberth’s cluster of restaurants offers impressive variety. While more spread out, Wynnewood’s dining scene also has a global flair.

WAYNE

The neighborhoods in this familyfriendly town offer a community-centric atmosphere that shines through during seasonal events like the Wayne Music Festival. It also has plenty of dining and shopping options, making it well worth the higher price tag for homebuyers.

A quasi-European town built into a scenic cliff overlooking the Schuylkill River, Manayunk is technically part of Philadelphia, which makes it a haven for young professionals and empty-nesters who want some of the perks of Center City without the typical urban annoyances. Renovations and new construction are the norm in Manayunk, so there’s an abundance of housing options. Main Street boasts plenty of retail distractions and every cuisine imaginable. Nearby Wissahickon Valley Park offers a gorge, meadows and 57 miles of trails. Just across the river from Main Street via footbridge is Bala Cynwyd’s waterfront showpiece, Ironworks at Pencoyd Landing (pictured). The converted 19th-century iron and steel foundry has two first-class restaurants, office space and a high-end hotel.

HER STYLE: Colorful but classic, with an emphasis on lovely fabrics and a touch of sparkle.

FAVORITE PLACES TO SHOP ON THE MAIN LINE: Elizabeth Maar, Latrice and SKIRT.

FASHION GENESIS: My mom worked for a popular department store in Allentown, where I grew up. Between the 1960s and the 1980s, she ran fashion shows at local clubs where women enjoyed lunch and an afternoon out. She was the first to use a senior model, a junior and a plus-sized woman. Not a week went by that I didn’t have a new top, dress or something special. It’s easy to how my obsession was fostered. see ON WORKING WITH JOAN RIVERS AT QVC: Joan came to us on the heels of her husband Edgar’s death. She was fragile and in need of a win. She made it clear that although she had a treasure trove of gems, she didn’t know how to present them to an audience that couldn’t touch them or try them

STYLE EVOLUTION: I was a heavy child. My mother kept me in current trends but suggested I keep the colors muted—quiet, as not to draw attention to my size. It wasn’t fat-shaming, but in a time when few teens were big like me, she wanted me to look my best. Today, little of that matters. Black, brown and beige are my least favorite colors, and I feel good when I am sassy in sapphire or racy in red.

was the funny color commentator. She was a quick study, and we grew into each other’s rhythm. It was a magical 10 years. We laughed ourselves silly, and we sold hundreds of millions of dollars’ worth of bumble bees and collectible charms.

HOW IT FEELS TO BE BACK ON QVC: It’s serendipity. Twenty-two years after leaving the company, Diamonique was celebrating a 35th birthday, and it was suggested I make a guest appearance. That turned into a monthly show on QVC’s sister channel, QVC2. Many of my audience members were young kids when I started in 1986. Now, like me, they’re grandmothers. Can you say loyal? I love them.

THOUGHTS ON AGING: Working at something I love and volunteering keep me feeling valuable. The clock slows down and the mood goes up when we’re engaged with our community. I’m a tennis player and an avid angler. I do my best to keep my skin nice, watch my weight and stay strong. FASHION NO-NO: Too short, too tight, outdated, not your best color, on trend but out of your wheelhouse. You know when you look great, and you know when you don’t. WHY FASHION MATTERS: Fashion is who you are, your signature on how you wish to be perceived. I love the process of picking the outfit, the jewelry, the wrap, the handbag, the shoes. It says I care about myself.
