Solaris–A
by Laurent Castellani
Solaris-A blurs the boundaries between reality and the fantastical, often to the point of abstraction. Photographer Laurent Castellani’s characteristic macro photography is here merged with the sun and with motifs from science fiction cinema, for an exploration of proximity and the relationship of sunlight with space.
In Solaris-A, Laurent Castellani’s characteristic macro photography is infused with his deep-seated enthusiasm for science fiction cinema. The title pays explicit homage to the sun and captures the relationship of sunlight with space. These themes of proximity, light, and space are informed by Castellani’s agoraphobia, paying witness to the nature of his own struggle with space and distance as he ventures into the sunlit world.
Solaris-A is the culmination of Laurent’s Castellani’s trademark minimalist style of extreme close-up work, infused with Castellani’s deep-seated enthusiasm for science fiction cinema. The title pays explicit homage to the sun and captures the relationship of sunlight with space, blurring the boundaries between reality and the fantastical, often to the point of abstraction.

The Weekender Tucson
by Erica Connolly
From its Indigenous roots to its Spanish heritage and into the present day, Tucson is a creative and complex community, infused with desert spirit. Photographer Erica Connolly invites readers on a visual journey through this unique urban-desert destination, taking in the sweeping landscapes of the hilltop views and mountain outlines to the small and intimate details of Tucson neighborhood life. Woven together through the quiet, luminous eye of a travel storyteller, Weekender Tucson represents a personal and atmospheric interpretation that bridges the city’s layered heritages, infused with melding adobe, mountainous scenes and splashes of color on the desert-bleached backdrop.
Tucson is a place of balance and contrast: stillness and energy; roots and heritage mixed with modern visionaries; the strength of the sunlight throwing shadows into starker relief. This volume offers a visual narrative unfolding over four days wandering through the city. Begin in the bright alleys of Barrio Viejo, following photographer Erica Connolly through secret doors set in whitewashed walls and wander into the eclectic historic charm of Fourth Avenue, with its colorful murals and charming, old-fashioned stores. The rhythm of the city is traced by the fleeting blooms of saguaro cacti and succulents in desert gardens, and lines of modern architecture rising beside centuries-old earthy brown adobe traditional structures. Mesquite smoke curls into the evening air as the sun goes down; the desert sky deepens and stars flood the horizon. With its culinary heritage recognized as the first UNESCO City of Gastronomy in the United States, Tucson delights every one of the five senses.

The Townhouse Kitchen: The Supper Club
by siblings Emanuel and Patricia Sousa
Often, the best meals take place at ‘home’ and not at a restaurant. When Patricia & Emanuel de Sousa, the siblings behind the Townhouse Kitchen started the supper clubs at the Townhouse, back in 2012, they had this concept in mind, uniting their own memories around the table, with family, friends, and strangers from around the world, combine with the history of a supper club, That history start is in 1937 London, when the first supper club in Britain, Half Hundred Club, was established “to combine good dining with economy” and hosted in random locations. Members were limited to 25 and they each could bring along a guest, possessing “no unsociable characteristics” that may hinder conversations. Overtime, the concept of supper clubs evolved in London and around the world to fulfil the need for casual get-togethers and social connections over food.
At the Townhouse or wherever the siblings are setting supper clubs around Portugal and beyond, the ever-changing ‘Carte Blanche’ multi-course seasonal dinner set the pace of conversations and fuel the curiosity about ancestral gastronomic practices in Portugal and the wider world culinary arts and practices in a cultural exchange of knowledges, practices, textures, and flavours.

The Waves Between
by J.J. Midwinter
James Midwinter’s photography transcends the mere depiction of surfing; it delves into the temporal and spatial dimensions surrounding it. Rather than imposing a narrative, his work seeks to suggest, allowing viewers to immerse themselves in the ambiance he captures. Midwinter endeavors to evoke a profound sense of place, encouraging individual interpretation and response. Within his imagery, one is prompted to relinquish the distractions of contemporary life and surrender to the scene, engaging in observation, inhalation, and imaginative immersion. Enveloped by the auditory tapestry of the rolling sea or the serene tranquility of still waters, viewers are beckoned to participate in the moment.
In his own words, Midwinter articulates, “I believe my photography not only reflects my perspective on the world but also endeavors to instigate a shift in the viewer’s perception... prompting them to cherish fleeting instants, such as the formation of sand underfoot or the caress of coastal breezes.” His objective is not merely to document, but to facilitate a transformation in how individuals experience their surroundings, urging them to embrace the nuances of existence.

Founder and CEO, Arnaud Zannier, continues to hone the recipe that makes up the signature offering of both the hotels and residences: a focus on all the seemingly minor details that ultimately make for an unforgettable stay. The establishments across Europe, Africa and Asia are designed to nourish body, mind and soul.
This book captures the earthy tones and raw natural environment that encompasse Omaanda lodge in the middle of the Namibian savanna and Sonop lodge in the Namib dessert; it evokes the sights and sounds of the rice paddy fields leading to Phum Baitang resort in Cambodia and activates palettes ready to taste the diversity of world flavours in traditional kitchen settings – from Menorca’s Nonna Bazaar to Bãi San Hô beach resort in Vietnam.

The Art of Hat-Making
Italian Craftsmanship From the Cervo Valley
by Giovanni Previdi
Cappellificio Cervo is to the world of millinery what the analog camera is to the world of photography: a place of return to fine art and inimitable craftsmanship. It is the artistic integrity of this historic institution dating back to 1897, that photographer Giovanni Previdi has documented so beautifully in The Art of Hat-Making. This book takes its readers on a journey through Italian fashion history – hat-making history, to be exact – and all through the lens of his SX-70 Polaroid camera.
Previdi spent several weeks following the ins and outs of the company’s hat-making process, focusing his camera on the ritual of seemingly simple gestures at the hand of makers whose craft was honed over generations. All this, in the picturesque Cervo valley of the Biella province, where the pure water plays an important role in the making of both ordinary and high fashion hats as seen in Hermes and Vuitton collections.
Capturing the essence of the textures and colour intensities found in the natural fibres used to create unique pieces, the book reflects on the importance of reembracing quality and durability to counter the global fast fashion, like his Polaroids, Previdi highlights the art of patience and perfection.

Story
by Patty Maher
In 2013 Yahoo chose to profile Patty Maher’s work as part of a very limited series of videos promoting Flickr’s top photographers. That video went viral, and firmly placed Maher as a prominent artistic voice in the conceptual and fine art photography space. Since then, Maher’s work has been featured in countless online and print publications, garnered numerous prestigious contest wins, been exhibited and sold internationally, and is counted among the permanent roster of artists in several prominent galleries throughout the world.
This book showcases her very unique style as the reader is taken on a visual journey through the key influences that go into Maher’s artmaking. The work is divided into thematic sections that each begin with thoughtful and almost poetic commentary about her inspiration and thought processes. The result is an engaging and delightful visual journey.
Patty is widely known for hiding or obscuring the faces of her subjects, using only posture, gesture, symbol and colour to convey emotion and story. With a highly recognizable style that is inspired by literature, fairy tales and surrealist paintings.

This Is Not a Recipe Book
by Tal Spiegel
Making and assembling a dessert is a journey. It’s a considered process, a visual translation of culinary thoughts, and a transformation of an idea to a 2D plan and finally a 3D reality.
Most of us own a collection of recipe books and some of them are very familiar to us, part of our kitchen stapples even. But how do all the chefs come up with those recipes? What are their inspirations and how do they bring them to life?
Chef Tal Spiegel book – This is not a recipe book – takes you through creativity and culinary exploration, into a finalized creation. With over 15 years of experience in design and patisserie, Spiegel will give you a glimpse into how his brain works, and how simple ideas are developed into concepts and creations.
“I want to teach people not only how to make my creations, but mainly to inspire them to create their own by learning to develop their own creative process” – Tal Spiegel
In his works, Spiegel combines the design codes he acquired over the years and applies them to the world of patisserie with an emphasis on colours, structure and composition.

The Weekender Singapore
by Matthew Chen
The Marina Bay Sand, the Changi Jewel and the fast-paced, high-rise city are what immediately comes to one’s mind about Singapore.
This is ‘The Weekender’s’ first flight into the Asia Pacific region and this issue will present Singapore in a different and more laid-back perspective than you might be used to. However, it will still showcase the iconic architecture and landmarks that juxtapose with a melting pot of diverse heritages/cultures and remnants of the city-state’s colonial past. And at the same, this issue explores the blurred boundaries between the old and the new, the hardscapes and the softscapes.
From starting the weekend with breakfast at a local enclave, rich in history and culture, to wandering the grounds of the UNESCO Heritage listed Botanical Gardens and then ending the day sipping a cocktail along Keong Siak Road, a trendy neighbourhood littered with eateries and bars, Matthew aspires for the book to bring about a more local and intimate experience of what the city-state has to offer for a weekend getaway or a pit-stop to explore the rest of region.

Swimming Pools
by Maria Svarbova
We are returning to the world created by Maria Svarbova to deliver a comprehensive collection of her work around this photographer’s biggest concept –Swimming Pools.
In the initial set of images, we see models frozen in the composition, the swimmers are as smooth and cold as the pools tiles. The colours softly vibrate in a dream-like atmosphere. However, despite the retro setting, the pictures somehow evoke a futuristic feeling as well, as if they were taken somewhere completely alien.
We now observe different strands of thematic content stemming from this original concept. Female empowerment, a more intimate view and relationship between models and the space around them and also Maria’s artistic expression of movements in feminism and the BLM movement.

Conversation between Ashleigh Kane and Maria Svarbova

Occupied
by Brian Fouhy
Occupied is a collection of urinals used and photographed by artist Brian Fouhy. Often unnoticed, Fouhy hopes to draw attention to the beautiful, odd, and sometimes funny forms urinals can take.
By including information surrounding the use of the urinal, such as the meal eaten in a restaurant, the score of a game at a sporting event, or the miles travelled since his last pee break while driving; Fouhy adds another layer to the experience beyond just a standard visit to the loo.
This book is full of fun, whimsy and takes a tongue-and-cheek look behind the closed doors of bathrooms. The second book from Brian, this collection of photography still maintains that distinct observational style of the artist.

The Weekender Stockholm
by Matt Porter
The iconic, Scandinavian city of Stockholm is where The Weekender series takes us in late Summer, 2019. Matt Porter visits the diverse and cosmopolitan capital to discover the charm of the old town, to the more modern and up and coming spots that all encapsulate that Swedish sensibility of calm and orderly sense of living. Sitting against the breathtaking backdrops of the city’s archipelago, Sweden’s largest city has plenty to offer on a weekend getaway.
The book will be an eclectic mix of interesting streets, delicious food joints, eye-catching landmarks and fantastic destination spots that can all be found in Stockholm. Whilst the flow of the book will incorporate the weekend trajectory, the mixture of content will mean that a reader is both influenced by Matt’s imagery of the city without explicitly having to follow a specific route but allow them to adventure at will.

Mellow
by Sofie Sund
Mellow is a collection of photography by the Norwegian photographer, Sofie Sund. Through carefully constructed still life images, Sofie captures the essence of what is usually perceived simply as normality. However, with a playful yet delicate touch, this series of images strives to elevate and capture the wonder of those little ‘in-between moments’; the moments that when pieced together make up everyday life.
The notion of the ordinary is something which inspires Sofie, as well as the more purely obvious aesthetic details in the world around her. Experimenting with colour combinations and light is a big focus in this artist’s work. Sofie’s style is easily recognisable yet simple in its approach, with a light-heartedness that cuts through the sometimes emotionally oriented imagery.

A GENTLE EMBRACE

PASTPRESENT
by
Justine Tjallinks
Justine Tjallinks is a rapidly rising photographer, who uses less conventional models to capture scenes that are often other-worldly and full of mystique. With a strong use of tonal palates and colour references, this book showcases her very unique style.
Justine combines the ‘old’ and the ‘new’ to create images that have a sense of nostalgia whilst the content and subjects are often firmly fixed in present day sensibilities. Taking inspiration from Dutch master painters for their use of light and colour, this is juxtaposed with remarkable, contemporary faces and figures seen in modern clothing designs. This aesthetic combination means that Justine’s reputation and work is growing quickly.
Owing to this photographer’s growing success, her work has been recently been taken on board by the Kahmann Gallery, and they plan to showcase her work in numerous fairs and art installations worldwide over the upcoming years.

reverie
by Laurent Castellani
Between shadow and light, the grain of the skin, the slightest shiver is exacerbated. Laurent Castellani plays the close-up shot as an expression of its relationship to spacean. The macro-portrait is the art of exploring the beauty close at hand and creating intimacy, the image creation pushing us to whisper.
This book, divided into emotional chapters, opens the doors to a singular vision of the portrait and the staging of each of these women whose secret Laurent Castellani has. They have been scrupulously chosen for their singularity, plunging us at the same time into the macro-portrait and cinematographic universe that he is particularly fond of, notably Lynch’s dreamlike universe.
Laurent oscillates at the border of reality and imagination in his photos as in his films. Each shot is an emotion. Beauty emerges, natural and wild. Minimalist in the soul and in his approach, Laurent Castellani seeks above all the essential: a vibration.

No Superhero is a series of work by the acclaimed Scandinavian artist, Ole Marius Jorgensen. SHARE Pocket Lagom
Curated by Marie Luise Wache, Oda Lill, Matt Porter and Francois Lebled
Lagom is a uniquely Swedish term that doesn’t have an English equivalent (Which I find to be pretty common, the Swedish language has denser words that the English language usually uses two or three words to describe.) Not only does it not translate perfectly but its just a very Swedish idea, or feeling. A popular etymological translation is “around the team” meaning enough food or drink for everyone at the table, this translation is said to go back to Viking times. Lagom is “Just enough,” “Not too much or too little,” “Just right,” “Enough to go around,” “Fair share.” It indicates balance. Lagom doesn’t have the negative connotation of “sufficient” nor does it claim perfection.
SHARE LAGOM contains 50 inspired artworks carefully selected amongst the best up-and-coming first time published artists. Following the success of SHARE Vol. 1 & 2 this third installment combines the winning concept of high quality prints on perforated pages with the trendy theme of Lagom. Each featured artist presents a single piece of work along with companion text in a two page format. The specially designed LAGOM size book is optimized for its intended purpose: every page’s perforation encourages readers to pull them as individual works of art.

Lodestars Anthology: Pathways
Edited by Liz Schaffer
Lodestars Anthology: Pathways contains some of the best and most carefully selected paths and trails that we have traversed. This book explores and details those pathways, the people, the landscapes and the fascinating things we discovered along the way. The journeys we take have a start and an end point, but we, in this book, want to relish the bit in between. So whether this is a mountain pass in the Italian Alps where we meet highland shepherds, or sprawling, urban grids with a bevy of restaurants and contemporary design, we want to inspire the reader to follow these paths and take precious moments to engage in everything possible through their senses. The book is a guide to these pathways, but goes beyond this to capture and document the lives of the people we meet, the challenges of the trip and the culture and landscapes we find that inspire us to keep on adventuring.
Lodestars Anthology is an independent magazine-meets-journal for curious travellers who long to be inspired, see the world and meet interesting characters along the road. Focusing on one country per issue, it is a scrapbook of place, getting to the heart of a location and uncovering its quirks, charm and splendour.

SHARE Scandinavia
Curated by Oda Lill
An collection of contemporary works from, by or inspired by the Norse region.
This second edition in the SHARE collection possesses all the same attributes of the original – an extraordinary selection of 50 artist’s works printed in two-page format and meant for ripping out, for framing and for sharing. At New Heroes & Pioneers, we are very excited to present SHARE Scandinavia as the followup to the original. SHARE has been met with enthusiasm around the globe for lovers of art and design so SHARE Scandinavia is the next natural step in order to build on the concept.
All too often we have connotations of art books being strictly for consumption at the coffee table. The SHARE concept enthusiastically abolishes this with a book that is meant to be held and deconstructed. Each featured artist presents a single piece of work along with a short description or text. The size is optimised and every page is perforated so that you can use the pages as individual works of art.

Collecting Words
(Very) Short (Visual) Stories by
Brian Fouhy
Brian Fouhy is a visual poet of the modern variety. Working in the medium of Instagram, this American captures words and phrases that are tattooed across the pavement and handwritten on the walls. He then puts them together to create short stories. The result is a visual compilation whose sum is quite different from the individual pieces. Over 30 stories are contained in this edition. In it, you’ll find humour and irony, often found mingling together.
What unifies these contrasting images is their humanity, coupled often with a sense of loneliness. Brian’s work demonstrates the similarities between the capturing of a moment through the lens of a camera and through the spilling of ink upon the pavement. Both are feelings stamped in a single moment in time.
The images themselves often feature forgotten corners in the urban landscape void of life. Truly a contemporary artist, Brian uses the breadth of modern technology to create a style completely his own. And you, have you ever told a story with pictures? Is there a photo-poet that stirs inside of you?

Who is Anna Andersson?
Portraits of Sweden’s Most Popular Name by Meredith Andrews
Thousands of Swedish women share the country’s most popular name – Anna Andersson. Besides their name and nationality, do they have anything else in common? In 2014, photographer Meredith Andrews travelled the length of Sweden to find out. From a tattoo artist to a priest, a child to a 99-year old, Meredith found astonishing diversity within this statistically significant group of women who all answer to the same name.
Who is Anna Andersson? is a visual account of 50 women who, at least superficially, share the same identity. This collection of intimate portraits reveals what unites and distinguishes people with a common name. The photographs combine personal stories with a captivating glimpse of life in contemporary Sweden and offer a new perspective on a national character. Whether you’re interested in foreign cultures, naming conventions or simply love peering into the lives of complete strangers, this book will fascinate you, no matter how many times you flip through the pages.

HIDE IN PLAIN SIGHT
You’re bound to be noticed as soon as you arrive in a new place. But the longer you stay in the same location, the less attention you’ll attract. You become a part of the scene; part of the environment. Everyone will be less aware of you and the fact that you are taking pictures.
Don’t rush away from a good photo spot. Hang around for a while until you become a fly on the wall and it will be easier to capture the scenes in front of you. You and the people around you will feel increasingly comfortable with each other.
A month-long trip around Sri Lanka was coming to an end. I stayed at the gigantic colonial Galle Face Hotel in Colombo. A very narrow strip of beach, no more than ten feet wide, stretched for miles alongside the stone wall. During the day it was empty, but when the sun was about to set, thousands of Sri Lankans gathered to play in the waves. I was amazed by the light and the scene and came back evening after evening. I walked around among the families, couples and laughing children until the sun was nowhere to be seen.

BACKGROUND CHECK
There are generally three main layers in every photograph: the foreground, the subject and the background. The latter could make your picture pop or flop. Before you press the shutter, take a moment to think about what the background look like. The camera transforms three-dimensional reality into a two-dimensional picture and if the background is not thought through, it can ruin a great shot. Pay attention to what’s behind your subject.
I saw it from far away. The old, two-colored American car and the wall behind with the exact same colors, only inverted. It was so perfect I almost thought the driver had been aware of it and parked his car right there, just waiting for an attentive photographer to walk by. Sometimes the world’s colors come together in amazing ways. Pay attention to color schemes and you’ll be able to get great pictures.

In early 2013, New Heroes & Pioneers publishing house – based in Malmö, Sweden – was little more than the kernel of an idea in our minds. Our plan was to develop and publish a range of coffee table books containing a smart, interesting and eclectic mixture of art, culture and fashion.
What made this concept unique was that we were, right from the beginning, dedicated to being a vehicle for discovering and promoting new and unknown artists whose singular styles and perspectives make them stand out.
But the story is changing, we are evolving and taking a fresh start. Stay tune for our S/S 2026 release catalogue and some big news, starting with our new name: Lebled Soloviev Editions.
