Saturday, May 31 Hoosier River Watch Training When: 9 a.m. - 4 p.m. Where: Wesselman Woods Nature Center & Pigeon Creek Volunteer Water Quality Monitoring “Basic” Training introduces citizens and educators to water quality monitoring utilizing hands-on habitat, chemical, and biological assessment methods. The sessions are held both inside and outdoors. Any interested adult is welcome to attend, and once certified, may teach students how to monitor. Junior Discovery Camp is a half-day version of our classic summer camp experience, designed for pre-Kindergarten children. Campers will explore the grounds of Wesselman Woods Nature Preserve with camp staff, play outside, meet animal friends, participate in hands-on experiments and crafts, and have a morning snack. The tour travels through different habitats, including wetlands, prairie, and woodlands to showcase various habitats, life cycle stages, and identification tricks for these winged beauties. Saturday, June 21 Bird Banding When: 2 p.m. - 4 p.m. Where: Wesselman Woods Nature Center Assist with an ongoing research and conservation project as we catch, identify, band, and record data on the birds of the Wesselman Woods Nature Preserve. This unique hands-on birding experience offers close up encounters with wild birds and demonstrations on banding techniques and bird identification. Participants can also help release them back to the wild! Bring your camera! Cost: Free and open to the public. No pre-registration required.
