No Voter Turned Away!

– NEWS RELEASE

09/24/2026 (Part 1) The Fannin County Elections Administration woke up to the same news and headlines that

are being distributed throughout the state: “Unknown number of Texas voter registrations went unprocessed due to DPS error” “Counties will start receiving a surge of applications less

than two weeks before the Oct. 5 registration deadline, adding work at one of the busiest points in the election calendar.” “After Texas DPS neglected tens of thousands of voter ap-

plications, Democrats demand an investigation” Let’s start with the facts. The Texas Department of Public Safety allows people to register to vote as part of the driver’s license issuance procedure. The DPS then sends that information through a portal to the Texas Secretary of State Office, which then

sends the information out to the appropriate county. The Fannin County Election Administration is among the counties that received a large amount of voter registrations this week (over 1,000 in one day) dating back to October of 2025. But the media and the Democratic Party are not placing the blame in the correct place. The DPS was instructed

to hold the applications by the SOS due to software issues. The information was not processing through correctly, leaving vital pieces of information out of the application being received by the county and rendering the applications unworkable. Continued

Sudden Death. When my mother was nine months pregnant, she unexpectedly lost my father. They were high school sweethearts with their whole future ahead of them. His passing was sudden, leaving her young, expecting, and unsure of what to do next. This experience is deeply personal to me. Preparation matters—not out of fear, but to understand your rights. YOU have the authority to choose the funeral home and make all arrangements —not local officials. When families feel empowered in their choices, it can ease the pain, if only briefly. I have met many who felt deprived of this choice during a heartbreaking time. I share this so that, if you face sudden loss, you know your rights.

with a bureaucratic mess. It is much more likely a case of a government agency accepting the low bid to update specialized software that the company had never worked with and they had no understanding of what the end users needed. The issues are still not resolved either. We still have numerous on-line applications that the direction on the street address is missing. (For instance, the address is 800 E. 2nd Street, but when we receive the address it reads 800 2nd Street.) This may seem insignificant, but it may change the voter’s precinct and we can’t just guess. This and numerous other issues are merely programming errors and it would seem, lack of attention to detail. We don’t believe there is a huge conspiracy going on here. (And I am willing to concede that I am sometimes too naïve and always expect the best from others…) What we believe happened is just poor management and bad decisions on the part of the SOS. Regardless of what you decide to believe happened, here’s what we are doing locally to deal with this issue. We are processing voter registrations as quickly as humanly possible. We have declared this to be DEFCON 4 or perhaps a DEFCON 3 situation. At DEFCON 4, you do a “double take” and assess security and improve procedures. At DEFCON 3, readiness is increased above

2/18/25

Continued from page 1

There have been numerous issues with software for over a year now. That was when the SOS rolled out their new, improved version of TEAM (Texas Election Administration Management) software. This software is used to process everything from voter registration to election logistics to final election results. The amount of additional work and overtime this system has generated continues to escalate. Every problem that has been created has been blamed on others—DPS, Congressional Redistricting, individual counties, etc., etc. The SOS seems to take the advice of the best attorneys in Texas and refuses to acknowledge or accept any liability. If appears that if they can shift the blame elsewhere, they will allow that to happen. It is unknown whether the TEAM software was one of the reasons that the prior Secretary of State, Jane Nelson, recently resigned. Regardless of her reasons, the incoming Secretary of State, Robert S. Howden, was handed a disaster that has barely escaped a complete implosion. (And it could still happen.) My office has no reason to believe this was a deliberate political subversion. However, we are thoroughly convinced that we are dealing

normal levels. This is critical. All available hands are working on the problem and additional manpower is being added. We are doing everything possible to process every eligible voter. And then the questions begin… What if we don’t get everyone processed? If you show up at the polls to vote and you are not in the system, poll workers and election judges are being instructed to immediately defer to the local elections office. If your information is in the SOS system, but has not been worked by us, we will stop what we are doing and work it on the spot. This information is dated and we will use the date that you submitted your application to DPS. What if you aren’t in the SOS system at all? Hmmm… that one isn’t so easy. If you want to double check your voter registration, you can check online at votetexas.gov or more specifically: https:// goelect.txelections.civixapps. com/ivis-mvp-ui/#/login If you aren’t in that system, you can file another voter registration application with the Elections Administration. We have no way to verify if all of the applications have been sent to us, but we have no reason to believe that they haven’t. If you were already a registered voter and have voted at least once in the last

two years, your registration should still be active. If you renewed your driver’s license and voter registration, it will be sent to us, but all we do is verify the address. If you have voted recently, you should still be good to go! If you are not registered, you can do so online, but we would prefer that you pick up a paper application from our office. Phone numbers are not mandatory, but including one makes it easier for us to process your application if some piece of information is missing. Please remember that all voter registration applications must be submitted no later than October 5, 2026 in order to vote in the upcoming November election. We realize situations like this are frustrating—for you and for us! We want you to know we are committed to protecting your right to vote. Even if we had no control over the problems that have been created, we will do everything in our power to make sure you can vote. If there is a conspiracy, we didn’t get the memo and we don’t see color (red or blue or maybe green?). We just see voters!

the center of a tortilla. Arrange sliced chicken, black beans, rice, lettuce, tomatoes, cheese and tortilla strips over the chipotle mayo in the center of the tortilla. Be careful not to go all the way to the ends of the tortilla- leave ½" perimeter. Fold one end of the tortilla over the fillings, using your hands to gently tuck and press the tortilla firmly around the fillings. Continue to roll the burrito, setting it seam side down on a work surface. Grill the burritos: Coat a nonstick pan with a thin layer of oil. Heat the pan over medium heat. Place a burrito, seam side down, onto the pan. Grill until golden brown. Flip. Once both sides are golden brown, remove from pan. Serve with avocado ranch sauce for dipping.

The Unsung hero of Bonham Lake. Honoring Stella Stewart's hard work in the Fall Transformation of the lake. While many of us visit the Lake to relax, unwind and take in the scenery, one local woman is working tirelessly behind the scenes to make sure that the scenery is absolutely beautiful. Her name is Stella Stewart and if you have "stopped by" the water lately, you have seen the fruits of her labor - even if you have not had the chance to meet the women behind it. Stella is the definition of an unsung hero. Without asking for praise or recognition, she pours her heart and hard work into maintaining and beautifying our shared lake spaces. Recently, Stella took it upon herself to bring Autumn to the waterfront. Thanks to her efforts, visitors are now greeted by a running display of vibrant fall color and perfectly arranged pumpkins, turning the lakeside into a warm, welcoming Autumn retreat. On any given day, you can find her out in the elements, diligently raking up leaves and debris to keep the paths clear. She makes sure the bathrooms are deep cleaned, ensuring a tidy and sanitary experience for every family, fisherman and hiker who stops by. Community spaces thrive because of people like Stella, she does not do it for a title or an award; she does it out of pure care for the lake and people who visit it. The next time you enjoy the crisp Autumn air by the water, take a moment to appreciate the Beautiful environment, see if you can see Stella with a rake in hand, and be sure to stop and say a huge "Thank You" for everything she does. Peter David Pancaldo Peter David Pancaldo, age 86, passed away Friday, September 18, 2026, at Clyde W. Cosper Veterans Home in Bonham, Texas. Peter was born January 5, 1940, in the Bronx, New York, to Peter and Jennie Piccininni Pancaldo. He grew up in the Bronx, NY and enlisted in the Marine Corps as a young man. He was a proud United States Marine and honorably served his country. Once a Marine, always a Marine. After the Corps he built a life in business and real estate, and he had a knack for always making something out of an opportunity. Later in life, family and friends knew him as Poppy- a man who never met a good time he didn’t like, a witty joke, or a room he couldn’t fill with laughter. He is survived by his wife, Margaret Susan Lahey Pancaldo and his four children, David Pancaldo, Vincent Panaldo, Shaina Defichy, Crista Straub and other extended family and friends who will cherish his memory. Peter was preceded in death by his parents, Peter and Jennie Pancaldo. And his Sister

Catherine Brodesser. A Memorial Service was held at 12:45 PM on Monday, September 28, 2026, at St. Albans National Cemetery, 177-33 Baisley Boulevard, Jamaica, NY 11434. In lieu of flowers, checks or donations may be sent to the family in his memory. To share a memory or leave a condolence, please visit www.coopersorrells.com

Weldon Lee Darwin

Weldon Lee Darwin, 88, of Texas, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, September 16, 2026, at 10:00 p.m. at Medical City Hospital in Plano, Texas. Weldon was born on April 20, 1938, in Bonham, Texas. He was the last living sibling of seven children, carrying with him a lifetime of memories, family traditions, and stories of a generation that meant so much to him. Weldon proudly served his country in the United States Army Infantry from 1958 to 1962. Following his military service, he built a long and hardworking career as a machinist, first with National Oil Well and later with Arrow Fabrication. He continued working until his retirement in 2021, a testament to his strong work ethic and determination. Weldon shared many years of marriage with the love of his life, Ruby Katherine Bond Darwin, who preceded him in death. Together, they were members of First Baptist Church in Garland, Texas, where their faith and family were an important part of their lives. But perhaps Weldon’s greatest legacy was found in being a father, grandfather, and coach. He loved coaching his sons in baseball and spent countless years coaching not only his boys, but also many of his nephews and neighborhood kids. He was the kind of coach who believed in teaching kids to work hard, be tough, and never give up. His familiar words from the pitching mound—“Rock & fire!”—became part of the family vocabulary. During football games, he could always be counted on to remind his boys to “suck it up.” Weldon had a special way of bringing the neighborhood kids together. He drove an old Chevrolet pickup with a camper shell and a mattress in the back, loading up the neighborhood baseball players and taking them to practice. Before long, the sound of his Oga Horn would announce his arrival, letting everyone know it was time to head to the ball field. Those memories became treasured pieces of childhood for countless kids who knew him as Coach Darwin. Outside of work and coaching, Weldon enjoyed fishing, hunting, and coin collecting. He appreciated the simple things in life and found joy in spending time outdoors, collecting coins, and, most importantly, being surrounded by family. Weldon is survived by his sons, Weldon Keith Darwin and wife Angela of Boyd, Texas, and Eric Kyle Darwin and wife Casey of Royse City, Texas. He leaves behind his beloved grandchildren: Kellea Darwin of Plano, Texas; Ashley Hill and husband Randy of Abilene, Texas; Kyle Darwin and wife Nicole of Irving, Texas; Michael Darwin and wife Leah of Irving, Texas; Cooper Martin of Graham, Texas; and Hunter Martin of Boyd, Texas. He was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Chelsea Moore of Caddo Mills, Texas. He is also survived by his great-grandchildren, Clay Hill, Cody Hill, Cara Hill, Trip Darwin, Lucy Darwin, and Abigail Darwin, who will carry his memory forward for generations to come. Weldon’s life was defined by family, faith, hard work, service, and a love for helping young people find their way. He was a coach, a mentor, a father, a grandfather, and a friend. His lessons reached far beyond the baseball field: work hard, be tough, keep going, and never give up. The sound of his Oga Horn may have gone quiet, but the memories of the man behind it will live on in the hearts of all those who heard it. “Rock & fire!” Rest easy, Coach Darwin. Your work here is done.

PSALMS 23 The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want. He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: He leadeth me beside the still waters. He restoreth my soul: He leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name’s sake. Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; Thy rod and thy staff they comfort me. Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: Thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: And I will dwell in the house of the LORD for ever.

Malinda Ann Hopper Carter, who was born on December 20, 1936, in Trenton, Texas, to Obie and Lucille Stewman, and died on September 21, 2026, lived a life marked by creativity, dedication, and steady devotion to the people and places she loved. Arrangements are under the loving care of Wise Funeral Home, Bonham, TX. She grew up on a farm with her family, and those early years helped shape the warm, capable, and resourceful woman she became. Among her fondest childhood memories were learning to ride a Shetland pony and later riding her Palomino mare in local parades, experiences that reflected Malinda’s lifelong appreciation for community life. From an early age, she carried with her the values of hard work, perseverance, and pride in doing things well. Malinda was a gifted student and graduated as salutatorian of her class in Trenton, an achievement that reflected both her intelligence and her determination. She carried that same commitment into her adult life, where she built a reputation as someone who could be counted on to do her work with care and precision. Her professional path included time with Racing Fuel Incorporated, as well as work in the family clothing store, Stewman’s, where she gained experience in retail and customer service. She also worked as a merchandise buyer, a role that suited her eye for quality, style, and presentation. The store was located first in Trenton as The Malinda Shop, named after her by her mother and aunt. They closed the Trenton location to open the larger store, Stewman’s in Bonham. Later, when the Sher-Den Mall opened, she joined her parents in opening the last four stores until it closed in 1984. Her creative talents stood out throughout her life, especially in her work as an accomplished porcelain painter. Malinda specialized in Limoges and Bone China. She also taught seminars throughout Texas from 1984 to 2005. She served in many offices for the State Federation Porcelain Art Clubs of Texas and her local chapters. Malinda was widely admired for her hand-painted Christmas ornaments, which became treasured pieces for many who saw or owned them. Her artistry reached a notable moment when Neiman Marcus displayed some of her ornaments at its Dallas store for one year, a recognition that spoke to the beauty and craftsmanship of her work. Malinda’s life was also defined by her devotion to family. She was a wife, mother, and GiGi to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Those roles were central to who she was. In 1972, she married Richard Carter, who was her soulmate, and together they shared a lasting bond built on love, companionship, and mutual support. She brought warmth, strength, and encouragement to her home, and her presence will be remembered as one of comfort and steady affection. She also remained engaged in the life of her community and was known for supporting small-town politics, especially during her time serving on the board of the Republican Women in Wood County as a member of the Texas Federation Republican Women. She believed in civic involvement and took that responsibility seriously, lending her voice and energy to causes she valued. Her interest in local affairs reflected her broader commitment to being an active and informed member of her community. Outside of work and civic life, Malinda enjoyed canning, gardening, and volunteering. These interests suited her practical nature and her generous spirit. She found satisfaction in growing things, preserving what was good, and giving her time where it was needed. Her life was one of quiet productivity and meaningful contribution, and she approached each season with creativity and purpose. She is preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Dick Carter, and parents, Obie and Lucille Stewman. Malinda is survived by daughter, Melanie Grammar, and husband Don; son Jack Hopper and wife Merry; grandchildren, Brian Grammar, Tifany Jeakins and husband, Travis, Mark Torres and wife Kourtney, Courtney Hopper; great-grandchildren, Zacharey Grammar, Tyler Bear Grammar, Stella Jeakins, Beck Jeakins, Barrett Torres, and Paisley Hopper. God’s Garden God looked around His garden And found an empty place. He then looked down upon the earth And saw your tired face. He put His arms around you And lifted you to rest. God’s garden must be beautiful He always takes the best. He saw the road was getting rough And the hills were hard to climb, So He closed your weary eyelids And whispered “Peace be thine.” It broke our hearts to lose you But you didn’t go alone, For part of us went with you The day God called you home.

May His Spirit Move Among Us!

Calvary Baptist Church Bonham, Texas As we stand on the precipice of our upcoming tent revival, we are reminded that God has often chosen simple places and humble gatherings to do extraordinary work. Throughout history, seasons of spiritual awakening have not begun with human strength, polished programs, or perfect circumstances, but

with hungry hearts crying out for the presence and power of God. From the great revivals of generations past to the quiet moments of renewal in local churches and communities, the Lord has shown again and again that He is able to breathe fresh life into His people. May we approach these revival days with prayer, expectation, and surrender. Let us ask the Lord

to awaken our hearts, restore our first love, strengthen our witness, and draw souls to Christ. May this tent not merely be a meeting place, but holy ground where God’s people seek Him together and where His Spirit moves among us once again. For His Glory, Lyn and Lissa

The Most Important Road You Will Ever Take Hello everyone! This week’s devotion is on the Romans Road to salvation, which is a very clear explanation of the gospel. It shows us our need for salvation, God’s provision through Jesus Christ, how someone can be saved, and the assurance that comes from accepting Jesus Christ as our Lord and Saviour. First, Romans 3:23 tells us that we have all sinned and fallen short of the glory of God. We have all messed up at some point in our lives, thus we cannot meet the Lord’s perfect standard. In Romans 6:23 we see the penalty of sin. The wages of sins refers to not just a physical death, but also spiritual death, meaning eternal separation from God.

We also see that God freely offers the gift of eternal life through Jesus Christ. We see in Romans 5:8 that God proved His love for us by sending His only begotten Son to die in our place, even while we were yet sinners. Next, Romans 10:9-10 tells us that we are saved through our faith Jesus Christ. Salvation comes through believing in Jesus’ death and resurrection, and confessing Him as our Lord and Saviour. In Romans 10:13, we see that God saves all who will call upon Him. Anyone, no matter who you are, can be saved by calling upon the Lord in faith. Once we are saved, we have peace with the Lord because we are no longer separated from Him. If you haven’t

asked Jesus to come into your heart and save you, I pray that today will be the day you do so before it is eternally too late. It will be the best decision you’ll ever make in your life. In 1855, Frederick Whitfield wrote this classic hymn that can be used as a prayer for the need of salvation through Jesus Christ. “I need thee, precious Jesus, for l am full of sin; my soul is dark and guilty, my heart is dead within. I need the cleansing fountain where I can always flee, the blood of Christ most precious, the sinner’s perfect plea.” Bro. Josh Stevenson

Using Our Strength For God

By Mike Dickison Minister for the Ivanhoe Church of Christ

James told Christians, “Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you” (James 4:7). We think of submission as obedience, but it is more than just doing or following the words; it is putting our all to the will of God. Most find that it is so easy to be bad. Jesus gave the greatest command, “thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind, and with all thy strength: this is the first commandment” (Mark 12:30). It takes strength to “flee these things” that are wrong, evil, and bad for us “and follow after righteousness, godliness, faith, love, patience, meekness” (1 Timothy 6:11). We are encouraged to “Watch ye, stand fast in the faith, quit you like men, be strong” (1 Corinthians 16:13). Christians are told to “be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might” (Ephesians 6:10) and “be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus” (2 Timothy 2:1). It takes strength to “Prove all

things; hold fast that which is good” (1 Thessalonians 5:21). We must use our strength to “Hold fast the form of sound words” “in faith and love which is in Christ Jesus” (2 Timothy 1:13). “Let” Christians “Let us hold fast the profession of [our] faith without wavering” (Hebrews 10:23). Again, Christians are told, “Christ as a son over his own house; whose house are we, if we hold fast the confidence and the rejoicing of the hope firm unto the end” (Hebrews 3:6). The Lord said, “hold that fast which thou hast, that no man take thy crown” (Revelation 3:11) and “hold fast till I come” (Revelation 2:25). It takes strength to endure. We are encouraged, “Blessed is the man that endureth temptation: for when he is tried, he shall receive the crown of life, which the Lord hath promised to them that love him” (James 1:12). Consider an example of endurance; “we count them happy which endure. Ye have heard of the patience of Job, and have seen the end of the Lord; that the Lord is very pitiful, and of tender mercy” (James 5:11). We find Jesus as the great example of endurance; “Looking unto

Jesus the author and finisher of [our] faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God” (Hebrews 12:2). The Lord proclaimed the necessity of endurance; “And ye shall be hated of all men for my name's sake: but he that endureth to the end shall be saved” (Matthew 10:22). Christians must also resist the Devil with strength. We must determine to shut Satan out of our lives. Paul warned, “Neither give place to the devil” (Ephesians 4:27). We must takes steps against Satan, “Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil” (Ephesians 6:11). We must be on guard against the devil, “Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour” (1 Peter 5:8). Are we using our strength to serve the Lord? Are we using our strength to resist the devil? Remember, James told Christians, “Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you” (James 4:7).

District XC set for Fannin schools

HG's Morris top rusher for Baylor

By Rich Hilliard

By Rich Hilliard

Former Honey Grove standout Ryelan Morris needed only four totes to lead Baylor in rushing yards on Sept. 19. Against Louisiana Tech, Morris had 55 yards on four carries, including a 33-yard run, during the Bears' 36-19 non-conference football win. It equated his second-straight game to record playing time and offensive yards.

TRENTON -- Whether a football postseason return awaits Trenton later this year remains to be determined. But having already surpassed last season's win total before September ends could foreshadow that. Strong start for Trenton football may foreshadow playoffs return story: The Tigers, 2-8 overall and 0-6 in their previous district in 2025, reached the start of 9-2A-I play on Sept. 25 with four wins: 46-15 at Celeste on Aug. 28, 2814 vs. Linden-Kildare on Sept. 4; 34-0 vs. Chico on Sept. 11; 37-19 at S&S on Sept. 18. It comes to start the tenure of new head coach Andrew Raiden who was promoted to the role during the offseason. The Tigers vie this fall for their first postseason trip since their bi-district advance in 2023.
