Press Release - As of Friday, July 31, 2026, the Criminal District Attorney's Office at 800 E. 2nd will be closed for business to and with the public and all county offices, at noon every Friday, as we transition and move from this location to our new office space in the Justice Center. We will be in between places, or packing, or unpacking, arranging
furniture (standard moving in kind of things) and trying to confirm that things work and security is in place. We will do that while still preparing for the 3 justice courts, the county court at law, the 336th district court, mental health court, drug court, veterans court, and the commissioners court, and/ or a combination of these things along with helping all other departments as requested, and then all law enforcement agencies 24 hours a day. We will not be answering phones or on our computers in any consistent manner. This is just a heads-up not just for my good troops and the county, but for the
public. This is simply a matter of common sense and safety for this office as well a courtesy and a recognition of the great work of my troops here. They are the BEST! Again, the criminal district attorney's office will close at noon every Friday until further notice or until we move to and are in full operation at the Justice Center. Thanks for your kind attention. John Skotnik Criminal District Attorney Fannin County, Texas (903)583-7448

‘Let the floodgates open’: Bonham’s building boom begins with first new neighborhood in decades BONHAM, Texas (KXII) - The Bonham Chamber of Commerce cut the ribbon Saturday morning on Asher Oaks, a 78-lot residential development in the heart of town — one of the city’s first planned neighborhoods in decades. The development sits near both the elementary school and the high school and features new builds aimed at young families. Samantha Lumpkins, executive director of the Bonham Chamber of Commerce, said the development fills a longstanding need. “That’s what excites me, is that they’re bringing homes to Bonham that young families can afford and build a life in,” Lumpkins said. “How exciting to have a brand new place to move those kids into, especially right across the street from the elementary school.” A long time coming Kristi Dunbar, also an executive director with the Bonham Chamber of Commerce, said watching the neighborhood develop has been meaningful for the community. “There’s been talk about it for a long time, but to see these houses come up, to see the land leveled and cleared and stuff getting ready, it just kind of makes it reality,” Dunbar said. “This is the first step of many for new people coming, new neighborhoods, new subdivisions.” Dunbar said Bonham’s small-town character remains intact despite the growth. “It’s definitely got small town charm, and there’s a lot of concerns about with people coming to the area, how that might change,” she said. “But we’re really lucky, it really kind of keeps things authentic and just has that hometown feel.” More developments on the way Asher Oaks is only the beginning. Several additional large-scale residential developments are already in the pipeline, including Powder Creek Ranch — a 3,000home master-planned community near the intersection of Highways 121 and 56. Dunbar said the additional developments will be more self-
contained communities on the outskirts of town. “There are several other large subdivisions that are really just going to be additional communities, complete with retail, parks, homes, maybe even schools eventually,” she said. Lumpkins said each development brings something different. “Each one has something that they’re bringing differently to the community. Parks for the public, swimming pools for the public, pet parks,” Lumpkins said. “Those are things that as people move from the Metroplex, they’re used to having, and they’re going to be able to find what they want and what they need here in Bonham.” Dunbar said more homes will attract more commercial development — something current residents have been waiting for. “People are looking for more retail, more restaurants, but those bigger name places need more rooftops coming,” Dunbar said. “So as these homes come, as these new neighborhoods come,
there’s no telling what might be possible as far as industry goes.” Lumpkins said the economic benefits will extend beyond individual businesses. “Yes, we’re going to have growth. You may have to wait a little bit longer at the stop sign, but you know
Cats have 32 muscles in each ear, to help them ignore you.
what? The payoff is great,” Lumpkins said. “As we welcome these families in, our churches are going to grow, our community is going to grow. It’s going to be the star of Northeast Texas.”

His grandfather Nathan Smith brought him to Texas in 1847, settling first in Harrison County. He moved with his uncles, Gideon Smith and Dr. J. C. Smith, to Fannin County in 1853. A good part of his youth was spent on the Smith farms on Red River. In 1857 he was sent to Baylor University, which was then located in Independence, Washington County, where he graduated as salutatorian in 1859. After graduation he

Monte Cristo Sliders are one of those recipes that feel a little indulgent but still totally doable for real life. They hit that perfect sweet and savory balance with layers of ham and turkey, melty cheese, buttery rolls, jam and that unmistakable dusting of powdered sugar. Add a little
raspberry jam on the side, and suddenly these aren't just sliders anymore, they're an experience.

Monte Cristo Sliders
12 Hawaiian Rolls 12 Ham slices
Preheat oven to 350°. Prepare 9x13 baking sheet with nonstick spray. Slice the whole package of rolls (without separating them). Place the bottom halves into the baking dish. Place half of the cheese slices onto the rolls, then layer on all of the ham, all of the turkey, and the other half of the cheese slices. Then place the top halves of the rolls on top. In a small bowl, whisk together the melted butter, the egg, and pepper. Brush this mixture all over the sliders. Bake 25 minutes or until the cheese is melted. Once done remove from oven and sprinkle on a little bit of powdered sugar. Serve with a side of jam.

Fish Stocking Continues Lake Ralph Hall - This month, Texas Parks and Wildlife stocked an additional 50,000 Lone Star bass fingerlings in the North Sulphur River channel. The Parks and Wildlife team will continue to add sunfish and shad as well, primarily to support the new bass population. These stocking efforts are helping establish the future fishery as Lake Ralph Hall continues to fill. The lake will open to the public for fishing and other recreation once it is sufficiently filled and conditions are safe for public access.

Fogle Family Marks 150 Years of Reunion Tradition
Written by Amy Neville Nearly 100 members of the Fogle family gathered this year to celebrate a remarkable milestone-the 150th annual Fogle Sesquicentennial Family Reunion, continuing a tradition that has brought generations together every year for a century and a half. Family members traveled
from across the country, with some making the journey from as far as 1,700 miles away, to reconnect, share meals, reminisce, and welcome the newest generation into the family's rich history. The reunion served as a reminder that while time and distance may separate relatives, the bonds of family remain strong. The annual gathering has become more than a reunion;
it is a living testament to the importance of preserving family heritage, honoring those who came before, and creating memories for those who will carry the tradition into the future. This year's event was filled with laughter, fellowship, and gratitude as nearly 100 relatives assembled for a commemorative group photo, celebrating a legacy that has

The Bonham Rotary Club held their weekly meeting on Wednesday, July 29, 12 noon, at the First Methodist Church Family Life Center. Rotarian Laurie Blake was in charge of this week's program and she invited Rob Spencer with Cultiv8Community to speak. Rob is a 4th generation United Methodist Church pastor. He has served 6 churches over a 35-year period in north Texas and retired from the local church in 2022 to start Cultiv8Community. He is a retired elder in the Horizon Texas Conference under full-time extension ministry appointment to Cultiv8Community. This non-profit grew out of his work restoring native habitats, connecting children to nature, and working to address poverty issues in rural areas. He and his wife, Celeste, have been married for 43 years
and have 3 children and 2
grandchildren. Rob loves native habitat restoration work, kayak fishing in the Keys, and taking wildlife photos wherever he finds himself. If you would like to contact Rob Spencer for a day camp at their place like over 5,000 kids have already done, give him a call at 940736-3008 or email him atrobcultiv8community. org

Weighed On God’s Scale
Calvary Baptist Church Bonham, Texas One thing many of us Americans dread is when it comes time to get on the scales. Our nation is among the highest in obesity when compared with other large, developed countries. The country with the highest obesity rate in the world is American Samoa, followed closely by Nauru and Tonga. Over 70% of the adult population in these Pacific
Island nations are classified as obese based on body mass index (BMI) measurements! So many of us dread getting on the scale. I heard of one man that put his scale in the corner in “time-out” for its bad behavior! The good news is there is a scale on which the heavier we are, the healthier we are! It is God’s scale. We should desire to never be a “lightweight” on God’s scale. In Daniel chapter 5, Belshazzar was one who
was weighed on God’s scale and found lacking. He was judged severely for it. The things that weigh heavy on God’s scales are things that are eternal and spiritual in nature. Things like holiness, character, righteousness and the like. Today, let us seek to weigh heavier on God’s scale as we worship and learn more about Him. For His Glory, Lyn and Lissa
God Sees The Heart
Hello everyone!
I’m sure we’ve all heard or used the expression, “Don’t judge a book by its cover,” at least once in our lives. We see a great example of this in 1 Samuel 16:7. We see that the prophet Samuel was sent by God to search for a new king to anoint over Israel. We see here that he is examine the sons of Jesse. When Samuel first lays his eyes on the oldest son, Eliab, he makes the assumption that he must be the one chosen by God. This assumption was based on his outward appearance and strength. Because of this assumption, Samuel thought Eliab would fit the role of a king more perfectly, but God corrects his assumption by giving him a profound truth. God tells Samuel not to consider outward beauty,
physical strength, or even charisma. Even though these qualities in someone can be good, they do not determine a person’s worth or calling in God’s sight. Eliab looked the part in Samuel’s eyes, but God had already decided that he wasn’t the chosen one. Many times, our tendency is to judge others based solely on their appearance, social status, wealth, or what have you. However, the Lord’s perspective is much deeper than we can ever comprehend. The lesson we can take from this verse is that God doesn’t evaluate us based on outward appearance; He looks at our character, motives, integrity, and faith. These qualities, although unseen to the human eye, matter more to Him than our social status or image. We tend to focus on the qualities in someone that look good
or seem impressive, but God sees our hearts. Jamie Turner and Ron Hamilton wrote this classic hymn that comes from the message in this verse. “Our God measures man By a standard divine For He sees underneath Every outward design He looks past possessions And costly attire He studies the heart-Every thought and desire For the eyes of the Lord Are searching to and fro We have no secrets that our God does not know Our Father knows our thoughts He understands every part Man sees the outside But God sees the heart.”
something, when he is nothing, he deceiveth himself” (Galatians 6:3). The church at Rome received this message, “to every man that is among you, not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think; but to think soberly, according as God hath dealt to every man the measure of faith” (Romans 12:3). We must consider our spiritual family in our thinking. Paul writes, “Even as it is meet for me to think this of you all, because I have you in my heart; inasmuch as both in my bonds, and in the defence and confirmation of the gospel, ye all are partakers of my grace” (Philippians 1:7). We are given a list of things to think about to keep us on the spiritual path and are also
told to do them. Paul encourages us in saying, “whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things. Those things, which ye have both learned, and received, and heard, and seen in me, do: and the God of peace shall be with you” (Philippians 4:8-9). When it comes to thinking spiritually, we must; acknowledge God’s word, have humility, consider out spiritual family, and follow the list that Paul provides.
Bro. Josh Stevenson
Spiritual Thinking
By Mike Dickison Minister for the Ivanhoe Church of Christ
We are challenged by the apostle Paul to think spiritually, to think about spiritual matters, which means that we must train our thinking to be in accordance with God’s word. We must acknowledge that the Bible is the word of God. Paul writes, “If any man think himself to be a prophet, or spiritual, let him acknowledge that the things that I write unto you are the commandments of the Lord” (1 Corinthians 14:37). We must have humility to think spiritually. We must not think too much of ourselves, “if a man think himself to be

Cassandra Drachenberg
Cassandra Drachenberg, who was born on July 29, 1956, in Mineral Wells, Texas, and passed away on July 22, 2026, in Dallas, Texas, lived a life marked by faith, devotion, kindness, and quiet strength. Arrangements are under the direction of Wise Funeral Home, Bonham, TX. She was a woman whose presence brought comfort and joy to those around her. Cassandra was known for her funny spirit, her loving heart, and the deep faith that guided the way she lived each day. She was a devoted Christian and a faithful member of the Baptist faith, and her beliefs were not simply words to her, but the foundation of a life spent in service to others. Ector Baptist church will always hold a special place in her heart. Cassandra graduated from McArthur High School in Irving, Texas, in 1974, and later continued her education by graduating from Rasmussen College in 2014. She valued learning throughout her life and carried that appreciation into both her work and her personal interests. She had a natural curiosity and a thoughtful mind, and she especially enjoyed computer programming, which reflected both her intelligence and her willingness to embrace new challenges. In her professional life, Cassandra worked for TMC in Denison, where she played a huge role in the medical records department. Her work was important, and she carried it out with diligence, care, and a strong sense of responsibility. Cassandra also found great joy in teaching and in fellowship. She loved teaching Sunday School at Ector Baptist Church to the Senior Ladies, where her warmth, patience, and faith were shared generously with others. Her beautiful singing voice was a blessing to those who heard it, and her love for worship reflected the sincerity of her devotion. She was a devout believer, and her life was a testimony to the grace and compassion that she carried in her heart. Family was central to Cassandra’s life. She was a loving mother to Bethany and a cherished Nana to Cynthia. These roles brought her deep pride and happiness, and she treasured the relationships she built with those she loved. Her family will remember her not only for the care she gave, but also for the laughter she inspired and the steady encouragement she offered. Her family describes her as a woman who believed in the goodness of people to the very end. Cassandra also enjoyed the simple and meaningful pleasures of life. She loved reading, which gave her both enjoyment and reflection, and she took delight in cross stitch, a pastime that reflected her patience and creativity. In all that she did, she brought thoughtfulness and care, whether she was working, learning, teaching, or spending time with those she loved. She is preceded in death by parents, and husband of 30 years Jerry Drachenberg. Those left to cherish her memory, daughter, Bethany Hager and husband Karsten, Forever Partner, Marilyn Pierce, brothers, John Whitehead Jr., Ted Whitehead and wife Angie, granddaughter, Cynthia Hager, great-grandson, Michael Diaz, and nephew, Tanner Whitehead. PSALMS 23 The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want. He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: He leadeth me beside the still waters. He restoreth my soul: He leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name’s sake. Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; Thy rod and thy staff they comfort me. Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: Thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: And I will dwell in the house of the LORD for ever.

Where My Feet Go, I Will Follow By Tim Meek
It’s a simple world when you are a 2nd grader in Elementary School. From the time I got home from school my shoes were off until bedtime. When the weather warmed they were off all summer. Unless my mother made me dress to go somewhere, and she did make me wear my shoes
to Church. We lived in the city so my feet soon became accustomed to the scorching hot streets and sidewalks. My Dad used to tell me my feet were tougher than rawhide leather. Only the occasional run through a sticker field would slow me down. My best friend was Terry Thompson. We were inseparable and like brothers. He always wore his shoes. Even when we went crawdad fishing! Terry was my best bud and wherever I went he followed. He could climb a tree almost as good as me and his bicycle wheelie popping was
legendary on our block, all this with shoes on! Our feet carry us through life and sometimes to the wrong place. Sometimes by choice, sometimes not. I had a good friend in High School and his feet carried him to Vietnam. He did not return. My Father’s feet carried him to the Philippines during WWII and thank God they carried him back home to his family. There are the feet of farmers and ranchers who have walked many miles up and down the rows and through the pastures dedicating their life and family to something they love and enjoy. Life is all about where our feet have

been, the memories, the life lessons and where they will take us in the future. Where my feet go, I will follow. I pray for God to set all of our feet in the right direction.
