The speaker then spoke of information obtained from the CDC website, of camps they are wanting counties to erect for Covid patients that are internment camps where high-risk individuals are physically isolated together.

He asked the court if there has been any discussion with them about the possibility of camps or green zones being erected in this county. He then cited documentation of the high percentage rate of vaccinated people who have Covid, concluded with the definition of pestilence, and quoted Psalm 91. Motion to extend Plan one week was passed.

What a wonderful service we had in God’s house Sunday morning! I love that we still sing the classic hymns in our church. Call me oldfashioned, but I prefer the hymns, and southern Gospel music, over any other kind of music that’s out there. I love to sing the hymns, but I also love reading the stories of how they were written. What a joy and a privilege it is the serve the Lord in the church that I was born, raised, saved in VBS when I was 6 years old, and baptized in. I am also very glad to be part of such a wonderful church family!

This week I am drawn to the works of the hymn writer James Montgomery. Some of his hymns include, “Hail to

This recipe is for a dream dinner. Throw everything in a slow cooker, turn it on, and go live your life. Which now that school is starting, we have busy evenings with homework and baths and all the papers to be filled out and returned to school! I hope this one will help with the busy schedules.

SLOW COOKER WHITE CHICKEN CHILI 3 boneless chicken breasts or thighs 1 Tbsp. cumin 1 Tbsp. ground coriander 2 tsp. paprika ½ tsp. crushed red pepper flakes 1 tsp. salt Black pepper to taste 2 15 oz cans cannellini beans, drained and rinsed.

2 4 oz cans chopped green chilies 2 garlic cloves, minced

2 c. chicken broth ½ c. heavy cream 2 Tbsp. masa harina ½ of a 10 oz bag of frozen corn Grated Monterey Jack cheese and chopped avocado, for topping.

Lime wedges for serving Put the chicken in a 6-8 quart slow cooker, Mix the cumin, coriander, oregano, paprika, red pepper flakes, salt and pepper. Sprinkle over chicken. Add the beans, green chilies, garlic and chicken broth to the slow cooker and stir it all around. Cover and cook on low until the chicken is cooked through and easy to shred or dice. 7-8 hours.

Remove the chicken to a medium bowl and shred with 2 forks. Combine the heavy cream and masa in a small bowl. Mix until smooth.

Return the chicken to the slow cooker along with the masa mixture and corn.

Cover and cook until the chili is thickened and the corn is warmed through, about 30 minutes. Ladle the chili into bowls and top with cheese and avocado. Serve with lime wedges. Enjoy!

Commissioner Lackey said it was good to see everyone and there were a lot of good discussions. He noted it was time for Commissioners to get to work noting his crew is shorthanded. He said he wants the county to be citizen-friendly and everyone to be prosperous and they want to grow the county the right way by getting some good industry so more homes can be built.

He thanked all for coming and said he appreciates serving. Judge Moore said last week money was ap-

He echoed the patience request made by the Commissioners and added that he thinks down the road everyone will be glad about what they see. Consider and take action to appoint or reappoint individuals to the Bonham Economic Development Corporation: City Representative Moore gave a summation of the work being done by BedCo concluding with his commendation of the good work being done by those who are up for reappointment. After some discussion, a motion was made, second, and passed unanimously to reappoint Glen Taylor, Lee Ellis, Kelly Royse, and Alan McDonald to the Bedco Board.

8. Discuss, consider and take action on updating the rental and deposit amounts of the Roy V. Floyd Community Center: City Manager Sean Pate discussed the new renovations done to Roy V. Floyd Community Center and the low rental rates that need to be raised due to the operating costs involved. It was discussed how events including alcohol consumption tend to cost more in the cleaning of the center than what can be covered by the deposit fee. The suggestion of city staff was to raise the rental fee for a non-alcohol event to $300 for up to 4 hours with a $100 fee per hour for each additional hour thereafter. And raise the deposit for a non-alcoholic event to $250. For an event where alcohol is consumed the rental fee of $750 for up to 12 hours with a $500 deposit fee was suggested.

Discussion ensued regarding the laws involved for rental of facilities when drinking alcohol is involved and the liability risks that exist as well as cleanup costs. Also discussed was how people from outside of Bonham come to Bonham to take advantage of the low rates for this venue. Differing opinions were bantered about resulting in the decision to form a committee after the meeting was over to look at the specifics of the rental rules and hours and to raise the rental fees with an immediate motion.

Councilman Bill Chapman made the motion to raise the rate for non-alcoholic events to $300 with a $250 deposit fee and to $750 for an event involving alcohol consumption with a $600 deposit fee. A motion was seconded

by Kevin Hayes and passed unanimously.

Discussion/Update concerning Bonham Housing Action Plan: Director of Community Development Mark Kinnaird began by thanking Dale McQueen for his public information request which will be made available for the next Bedco meeting. He gave a brief summation of permitting fees from 2016 to the present day with a projection of upcoming projects and the permit fees expected to be generated. He spoke of major developments expected in the next couple of years including the development associated with the Sanchez Land Development Group that was the subject of the motion made by the Council in agenda item 5.

We all become complacent from time to time but it may come at a large cost to you, and although not your intentions or your fault, to others as well. There has been a recent operation of vehicle burglaries (13) in our city, I’m sad to report that a majority of these could have been prevented. In this particular operation, the suspects were seeking guns and money and were successful.

Criminals look for easy targets and will take the opportunity when it presents itself, so let us not present it. Here are some reminders to prevent you from becoming a victim. Always keep your vehicle windows up and your doors locked when you’re not occupying it. Don’t leave wallets, purses, firearms, or expensive property lying in open view inside of your vehicles. Believe it or not, some firearms taken from unlocked vehicles are taken to later commit violent crimes. Take these items out of your vehicle or secure them within, but out of view. The same applies to your residence and other buildings on your property, keep them locked and secure your valuables. Camera systems are relatively inexpensive and easy to install these days, they’re well worth the cost and protection.

Building a daily habit with a few extra steps when you’re away from your vehicle or home or just turning in after a long day is worth the protection of everything you have worked so hard to own.

The Days of Noah is a common term but not well understood in modern times. Surely it must mean more than the fact that there were weddings and parties – life as usual, “doing their thing.” To understand the human condition in the days preceding the flood, we must have a look back at Genesis 6. “…the sons of God [fallen angels] saw the beauty of the daughters of men, and they took them as wives and bore children.” Genesis 6:2,4. God’s creation, made in God’s Own Image (Genesis 1:26) had traded their Godly Nature along with the children they bore for the nature of the fallen angels. The weddings and feasts spoken of in Genesis 6 were celebrations of the union between God’s Creation with Satan’s minions.

The offspring of this unholy union produced a new race that no longer bore “the image of God.” This new species carried the seed of satan. They were mighty in physical form (giants), strong in the flesh and the nemesis of Creator God. They were what we would call today “demon possessed,” but due to their physical size and strength, they were embraced by society as “heroes,” “men of renown.” Genesis 6:4. “And God saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of man’s heart was only evil. The Lord was sorry that He had created man on the earth; it grieved Him at His Heart. And the Lord said, I will destroy man whom I have created from the face of the earth; both man, and beast, …for I am sorry that I have made them.” GOD ALONE CAN CREATE, BUT SATAN, THE ARCH ENEMY OF THE LIVING GOD, HAS ALWAYS LOOKED FOR WAYS TO CORRUPT GOD’S CREATION. God was grieved for His beloved creation, but He would not let these corrupted beings further destroy Creation and the ONE who would, ultimately and at the appointed time, bring HIS Salvation for humanity. Yet, there was one, Noah, who listened to God, obeyed God, and walked with God. He agreed with God about the condition of the world, and although He was extricated from society, He built an Ark, on dry ground in a world where no one had ever seen or heard of rain. (At the time of Noah, God watered the earth from the springs below the surface.) But this Noah (name means rest) walked with God, he heard God, he recognized God’s voice, and when Noah heard the voice of God, he acted. And God prepared a place of Safety for Noah and his family. But “To those who were disobedient long-ago God waited patiently in the days of Noah while the ark was being built. In it only a few people, eight in all, were saved from the flood.” I Peter 3:20. “Every living thing on the face of the earth was wiped out; people and animals …were wiped from the earth. Only Noah was left and those with him in the ark. Genesis 7:23. Do we, in our sophistication, find it difficult to humble ourselves to this truth? Has the Word of God to whom Jesus testified become a mere fairytale – a child’s bedtime story?

Why would God destroy the earth again? Because we are in the days of Noah – again!

This is not a popular message, but it is a true message.

God, as He did in the Days of Noah, prepared a way of escape and a place of safety for those who listened to His Voice. With the coming storm, He holds out to all who will receive Him a place of safety in JESUS CHRIST. He is the ARK OF OUR SALVATION. He defeated death and gives His Eternal Life to all who will receive Him. We have been reborn in Him! Man’s attempt at creation today is no different than it was in The Days of Noah. God is the Creator. Man does not create; Man either enhances or corrupts what GOD creates.

Game Warden Field Notes

Kids Say the Darndest Things A Polk County game warden received a call from county dispatch regarding a father and his 9-year-old son who had gotten stuck in their buggy deep in a deer lease. They attempted to walk back to their camp and got lost in the process. County dispatch was able to ping their location within a three-mile radius. Once in the area, the warden was able to follow the tracks to the father and son.

Dad commented to the son, “Yeah, might be bad luck being the second time we’ve been stuck together,” as the son responds, “but each time, dad, you were driving.” The warden responded, “you’re a smart kid,” and presented him with a Texas Game Warden badge.

Inside the box was numerous bags of vegetable seeds and dried shrimp. A package contained Ipomoea Aquatica seeds (water spinach), which is a harmful aquatic species in Texas. A second package claimed to be shirts. Wrapped inside the clothing was a bag that also contained Ipomoea Aquatica seeds. It is illegal to import or possess seeds in Texas. The cases were referred to a Tarrant County game warden and the packages were seized as evidence. The individuals who imported the products were issued citations.

The cases are pending.

Bonham-Paul Dean Roberts, age 81, of Bailey, TX was born on April 17, 1940, in Dallas, TX to Margie Opal Elizabeth Thompson.

He passed away on Sunday, August 8, 2021, at Texoma Medical Center in Denison, TX with his family by his side.

Paul Dean Roberts married Susan Ann (Ingram) Roberts on April 25, 1973, in Bonham, TX. He was a farmer. Paul was loved by all and will be missed by many.

He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Susan Roberts, his daughter, Pamela Garza and her fiancé David Fields and her children; his son, Patrick Roberts and his fiancé Hope Medcalf; his youngest son, Paul Roberts; his brother, Billy Roberts and his sister Betty Tharp; his grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Vernon and Opal Roberts, his brothers, Butch and Freddy Roberts, and his son, Rodrick Ingram.

Graveside services were held on Friday, August 13, 2021, at Mulberry Cemetery. Presiding was his son, Patrick Roberts.

Serving as pallbearers were Andy Roberts, Bobby Roberts, David Fields, Roger Ingram, Cody Ingram and Joseph Garza.

Jimmy was born in Paris, Texas to Robert Morgan (R.M.) & Christine (Liar) Charles on June 27, 1954.

He graduated Honey Grove High School, and later earned his bachelors degree. Jimmy worked on the family farm for many years. He then went to work for the USDA until his retirement.

Jimmy married Carla Bryant on October 8,2004. at their home in Honey Grove Texas.

Jimmy is survived by his wife Carla (Bryant) Charles of the home. Sons Nathan Charles & wife Jorezelle of McKinney, TX , Aaron Charles of Honey Grove Texas. Grandchildren Jasimine Charles, Malakia Charles, Addison Charles and Jonathan Charles. He is also survived by sister Elaine (Charles) Tadlock of Honey Grove, Texas, brother Robert Charles & wife Phyllis of Honey Grove, Texas. Numerous aunts, uncles nieces, nephews and cousins.

He is rejoicing in Heaven with his Lord and Savior and many family members .

She was actively involved with all of the youth activities including fundraisers, camps and mission trips. After she and Bill moved to the Lannius Community, they moved their membership to Boyd Baptist Church where they remained active until their failing health prevented it. Faye enjoyed gardening, but her top priority and greatest joy was spending time with her family, especially her grandbabies.

She was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters, Sarah Martin and Gaynell Griffin, a grandson, Clay Matthews and a step grandson, Chad Hunt.

Faye leaves to cherish her memories, her beloved husband of 63 years, Billy Jack Matthews of Ravenna, TX; a son, Kirk Matthews (Wanda) of Paris, TX; a daughter, Suzie Matthews Dickey (Keith) of Ravenna, TX; brother, Kenneth Moore (Mary) of Bonham, TX; 5 grandsons, Tony Matthews (Lynsie), Christian Matthews, Dillon Dickey, Drew Dickey and Dawson Dickey; great grandson, Cooper Matthews; step grandson, Quentin Hunt; a number of nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

BONNIE FAYE MATTHEWS Bonham- Lillie Marie (King) Barnett, age 65, was born on November 28, 1955, in Grayson County, Texas to James Elwood King and Lillie Pearl (Cirkles) King.

She passed away on Sunday, August 8, 2021, at Texoma Medical Center in Denison, TX. Lillie married Dallas Barnett on October 20, 2000, in Ivanhoe, TX; for Dallas it was his honor to be married to the most wonderful woman in the World. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and friend.

Lillie attended Paris Junior College where she received her Dietician Certification. She worked for Texoma Medical Center Bonham Hospital as a dietician. She loved to fish and do crafting with her grandson, Connor.

Daniel was preceded in death by his father, Tom Caldwell, grandparents, Maurice and Sandra Reeves, Uncle Larry Reeves and grandmother, Lorene P. Caldwell.

Daniel leaves to cherish his memories his mother, Kristi Bridgwater and husband, David, Uncle David Caldwell and wife, Angie, cousins, Carrie Reeves and husband, Ali Shekarchian and Lori Barenfeld and husband, Jayson. He is also survived by adoring cousins’ children who knew him as Uncle Daniel, Kai Barenfeld, Bodi Barenfeld and Rio Shekarchian and Aunt Mary Reeves and extended family, the Wilsons.

Daniel was a warm, caring person who was loved by everyone he met. He loved his family and he loved the Lord with all his heart, mind and soul. His list of achievements including earning a doctorate from Mary Harden Baylor in 2018, didn’t overshadow the fact that he was an incredible pianist, hunter, baker, gardner and interim pastor.

He could plant a full garden or crochet a baby blanket; his talents knew no bounds. He was a member of the Eastern Star, a 32nd degree Mason and a professor at Texas A & M Commerce. Daniel tragically lost his battle with Covid on Sunday, August 8, 2021.

Pallbearers were Stephen Wilson, David Wilson, Steve Wilson, Gaylon Pasley, David Harrison, Ali Shekarchian, Jayson Barenfeld and Dustin Morrow.

RAYMOND LEON MOSS

Bonham-Raymond Leon Moss, age 67 was born on December 31, 1953, in Pittsylvania County, Virginia to Dewey Preston and Oma (Anderson) Moss, in Vandola Community. He passed away on Sunday, August 1, 2021, at Texoma Medical Center in Denison, TX. “Leon” was raised on a tobacco farm in Southern Virginia by two loving and giving parents and the youngest of ten. He was an avid outdoorsman who loved to hunt, fish and barbecue. Leon was a brick mason by trade and a caring and gentle soul who loved to help others. After moving to Texas, Leon spent the later part of his years as a care provider, pouring out his love to others.

This is where he met and became a lifelong, loving companion to Frances Greer and her family.

He came to love her five children, Jennifer Darby James, Katrina Darby Byrd, Timothy Darby, Carolyn Van Story McBride, and Terry “Pooter” Cheyenne Van Story (deceased); along with their children and grandchildren.

Leon is survived by his beloved children, Melissa Moss Young and husband Wayne of Pittsview, AL; Dana Moss Lunsford and husband Bryce of Danville, VA; Erica Dawn Land and husband Larry of Martinsville, VA; James Preston Moss and wife Diedre of Danville, VA; 9 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild; siblings, Nancy Moss McCune and husband Richard of Danville, VA; Nellie Dalton of Gretna, VA; Barney “Jinker” Moss of Danville, VA and many nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Dewey and Oma Moss, and brothers, Melvin Moss, Robert Moss, Ray “Flossie” Moss, Bill Moss, Charles “Bunny” Moss and Sam Moss.

Leon loved life, his family, friends, and a good glass of wine.

He wished to continue in our hearts and minds after death with a celebration of life ceremony.

Celebration of life ceremony is pending for a later date.

PHILLIP AND BETTY RICHARDSON

A visitation for Phillip and Betty Richardson of the Lamasco Community of Fannin County, Texas was held from 6:00 to 8:00 PM, Friday, Aug. 13, 2021 at Wise Funeral Home. A private inurnment will be held in Lamasco Cemetery at a later date. Phillip and Betty passed away early Saturday morning, Aug. 7, 2021 in an accident in Hunt County.

Phillip Ray Richardson was born April 1, 1942 in Hart, Oklahoma, the son of James Walter Richardson and Juanita Johnson Richardson. He married Betty Lorene Gouge on June 10, 1961 in Denison, Texas. He was a self employed logger and truck driver for many years.

Betty Lorene Richardson was born Aug 4, 1943 in Denison, Texas, the daughter of Cletus Yiser Gouge and Pearl Kelly Gouge. She was a graduate of Denison High School. She was a homemaker and a loving mother.

Phillip met Betty as a young man, and he knew she was the one. As years passed he conquered her heart. That led to a life of 60 years of a wonderful and beautiful marriage. They remained loyal and constant companions until death.

Phillip and Betty were preceded in death by their respective parents, a son, Eric Paul Richardson (1988) and a grandson, Nicholas Richardson.

Betty was also preceded in death by two brothers, Bill Gouge and Larry Gouge.

Phillip and Betty are survived by three sons, Steven Richardson (Susan) of Ivanhoe, TX, Wesley Alan Richardson (Jean) and Phillip Brandon Richardson (Tracey) all of Quakertown, PA and two daughters, Paula Lynette Morris of Midland, TX and Barbara Gail McLain of Denison, TX; 10 grandchildren, Jacqueline, Zachary, Joshua, and Jordan Morris, Brandi and Megan McLain, Steven, Patrick, Jessica, and Austin Richardson; 15 great grandchildren, Jackson, Jack, Saylor and Wilder Morris, Jace Hernandez, Aubrie and Zane McLain, McKenzie, Ava, Ryan Karston, Ethan, Lexi, Connor and Jaden Richardson.

Phillip is also survived by a brother, Donald James Richardson (Pam) of the Carson Community of Fannin County, TX and two sisters, Juanita Harris (Danny) of Tom Bean, TX and Deanna Easley (Keith) of Midland, TX. Betty also leaves behind a sister, Caroline Gouge Lay of Denison, TX. The couple were Jehovah Witnesses active in the Bonham Congregation.

Mr. Meek: I appreciate your stance on attending the meetings of the Fannin County Commissioners Court and other public entities. I often say that the closer you are to our elected official, the more your opinion can be heard. It may not change any outcome, but you can “bend the ear” a little more with a visit than with an email.

Your school board is important, even if you do not have students in the school district you live in. I wish reading about the goings-on for my Sam Rayburn ISD, and I have said it since 1986, but that is not why I am writing you today. I have been, and will be again, a regular attendee.

City Council meetings are the next level, where you have a direct need to be aware of what is going on and the issues faced. Bonham, being the county seat, directly impacts all of us in Fannin County. City councils for Honey Grove, Windom, Dodd City, Savoy, Ector, Whitewright, Leonard, Trenton, and Ladonia all impact their citizens, and I hazard a guess are sparce in citizen attendance. They should not be folks. You need to be involved.

I attend the commissioners court because I want to remind them that there are people in the county to give a flying fig about the things done in court, and the decisions those folks make that directly impact our lives.

Let me get this straight.

Our state is currently experiencing an alarming spike in coronavirus incidence because of the Delta variant of the virus. Our Texas hospitals are experiencing a shortage, again, of ICU beds and staff to care for patients presenting with severe COVID-19 symptoms.

We know there are two ways of minimizing the virus spread. One is wearing a mask and the other is being vaccinated against the virus. We have at least two vaccines available to protect against the virus that are very effective for everyone 12 years old and older. The vast majority of patients presenting with severe COVIDpneumonia symptoms are unvaccinated.

At the beginning of the pandemic, the old folks were most vulnerable. Now, since older Texans have mostly gotten vaccinated, the most vulnerable folks are those under 12 years of age because there is no vaccine approved for them - yet.

So what should be done to protect our children as they return to school: Obviously, masks and vaccines. If ev-

A separate article in the WFAA News stated: “The Dallas Independent School District will require face masks for students and staff, defying Gov. Greg Abbott’s order which bans mask man-

I am at a loss to explain why Gov. Abbott has no problem mandating that all Texas drivers obtain a driver’s license, that all Texas realtors maintain a realtor’s license, that all Texas barbers maintain a barber’s license, etc. yet bans a mask mandate to protect our children while indoors in a learning environment. He has failed in his duty to protect our most valuable population – our children.

FEMA Flood Zone Land when Facts are Distorted for a Purpose

By Thoa Allen Excerpt from Commissioners Court Date July 6, 2021, Pages 20 & 22 - Item 14. Discussion regarding Fannin County Development Permit criteria and guidelines: Commissioner Self began by saying that there are a lot of questions on this as to what qualifies as a permit and said it should be structured better. Fannin County Development Service Director Di Hopkins spoke to explain how she came about submitting the proposal for the permit. She gave a detailed explanation that can be summed up in her following statement: “Previously some subdivisions have been cited without consideration for flood plains.

Residents have built with no engineering or permitting in flood plains. These things can be both expensive and cause safety issues for citizens of Fannin County. This also means that we are not following the requirements of Fannin County Flood Plain Ordinance approved on February 18th, 2011 by the previous Administration or the FEMA’s minimal requirements needed to remain in the National Flood Plain Insurance Program. The National Flood Plain Insurance Program is backed by FEMA. Without this program, the citizens of Fannin County that have a development or a building or have built anything in a flood plain would have a very hard time finding a foothold of plain insurance. There are buildings being erected also in the Bois d’Arc Lake Buffer Zone that do not meet the dimension or regulations. It will cost people more money trying to come into compliance than if they had known to follow the rules from the beginning. Citizens are informing me that they did not know any permitting was needed until they apply for a septic permit and most of these citizens have already started building. I recommend we adopt a low-cost development permitting for the unincorporated parts of Fannin County.

Following her written statement, she noted that she had consulted with District Attorney Glaser and TAC (Texas Association of Counties) and the reason she had made the proposal was to try to find a way to keep Fannin County in compliance with FEMA. My commentary: The Development Permit fee of $30.00 was an actual match to the fee imposed by the Flood Damage Prevention Ordinance set in 2011 which was in place before Director Hopkins took her job. It was not an attempt for a money grab on the part of the County Judge, Commissioners or Director Hopkins. Ms. Hopkins suggested to Commissioners that we can do away with the $30.00 fee or make it less, whatever Commissioners decided, as long as citizens are informed of FEMA Flood Zone land regulations before construction. Ms. Hopkins came up with solution after solution but was met with resistance by Commissioner Self and Commissioner Lackey.

Pct. 2 suggested citizens use the FEMA Flood Map on the internet to find out if their land is in a flood zone. Pct. 4 commented the $30.00 fee is not acceptable and he would not pay it. Ms. Hopkins asked Commissioners what suggestions they have for these people whose homes are flooded with no insurance to cover it because they did not know of FEMA protective plans.

No advice was given to her.

Commissioner Lane, Pct. 1, motioned to vote in favor of Ms. Hopkins; Commissioner Magness seconded it; followed Judge Moore. Commissioners Self and Lackey voted against it. Ms. Hopkins never stated the $30.00 building permit will also include building fences, dog houses, bird houses, chick-

en coups, etc. that was posted on Pct. 4 Facebook, and was mentioned publicly during the Commissioners Court Meeting dated July 13, 2021; the date the permit was rescinded during Judge Moore’s absence.

When misinformation is published in any manner…online via social media, via text or via e-mail, there is almost no undoing it. First impressions/ beliefs are the strongest. The Development Permit stated it did not include new fences, roofing, general repairs or livestock pens but the rumors of such things being included created a lot of unnecessary angst among citizens.

Whether or not the County Judge and Commissioners reinstate the Development Permit in a more acceptable version, the fact is that Development Director Di Hopkins acted in the best interest of what is needed to protect anyone planning to build in a potential floodplain. When you understand there are guidelines imposed by FEMA, you realize there are also consequences for not following the guidelines. Ms. Hopkins and Commissioner Lane did not have to endure what transpired during Commissioners Court Meeting.

There are laws to protect Real Estate buyers. Agents/ Brokers must give full disclosure to buyers if the land is in flood zone. Consumers can report them to Texas Real Estates Commission, Government Office PO Box 12188, Austin, Texas 78711-2188, phone #512-936-3000, e-mail information@trec.texas.gov.

This is where their license is renewed. Always ask developers to show buyers a topography of the land and asked if the lot, land or home is in a flood zone. FEMA Flood Zone Map changes all the time and is not always current because of roads, highways constructions being built, and reservoirs coming in. This alone changes land structures. Citizens can go to FEMA Website for laws and regulations building on flood land.

Early giving is from September 1 to 22. Gifts will support local causes and help build a stronger and more vibrant community. Contributions will also give the participating nonprofits the chances to win prizes and earn bonus funds. Some nonprofits have also secured 1:1

matching funds to make donations stretch even farther.

For example, the Fannin County Children’s Center has secured $25,000 in matching funds from the Glaser Family Charitable Foundation, Bonnie Donaghey, Warrior Tire and Toyo Tire. Funds raised by the Children’s Center will be used to build a new, larger facility that will help children, youth and families for years to come.

By Rich Hilliard BONHAM -- Four upperclassmen lead a roster for Class 3A Bonham which via District 11-3A in 2021 looks to return to the volleyball postseason.

Junior Alli Kirkpatrick returns after sharing the district hitter award in 11-3A from which Savoy the Lady Warriors in 2020 looked en route to the playoffs -- before COVID-19 forfeits of their last three district matches and an ensuing five-game fourth-place play-in loss Bells curtailed a third-straight advance.

Setter Brianna Rodriguez and hitter Breaunna Killgo, both juniors, are also back after each garnered a first-team all-district selection in 2020.

Senior Paizley Vaught, an all-district honorable mention, completes the upperclassmen quartet for Bonham.

The 2021 season will equate Michelle Honey Rodriguez’s ninth as head coach of the Lady Warriors, split between two stints: 2010-13 and 2017-now.

Tori Dotson is back for her senior season, after earning second-team notoriety in 16-2A volleyball last fall. She also garnered all-state recognition in girls basketball and softball -- statewide most valuable player status in the latter sport for her championship game and overall performance during the 2021 diamond season.

Senior Kylee Graves earned an all-district volleyball honorable mention in 2020, before also garnering all-state notoriety in girls basketball and softball as the Lady Hornets won State championships in each spring semester sport.

The duo will be joined by other returning members of the deep advancing 2020 volleyball team, as alumna Lindsay Carter, a multiple sports standout at Dodd City during the previous decade, takes the reigns of the program for her first coaching position.

Volunteers and staff of the Fannin County Children’s Center gave away free school supplies to nearly 600 students. Courtesy Photo Press Release - Nearly 600 students from all over Fannin County received free school supplies on August 7 to start the new school year, thanks to a generous community. This year marked the 25th year that the Fannin County Children’s Center has provided school supplies to local children and youth.

The exact number of students served on Saturday was 587.

Organizers expect the number to grow over the next few days as additional students will be served with the remaining sup-

plies. Red River Gypsies provided free haircuts to 28 students too.

“Once again, we are very grateful to our generous donors and hard-working volunteers and staff who make this happen every year,” said Sandy Barber, Executive Director of the Children’s Center.

This year’s event ran similar to last year because of the pandemic. The drive thru event had families drive up and stay in their vehicles in front of the center while staff and volunteers

brought supplies out to them.

The mission of the Children’s Center is promoting safety and improving the lives of abused and neglected children. In addition to the annual school supply drive, the center operates CASA, Children’s Advocacy Center and child abuse prevention programs. The next CASA volunteer training class starts soon.
