Fannin County courthouse feud continues with new investigative filing, lawsuit possible
By Austin Hedgcoth Published: Jul. 21, 2026
FANNIN COUNTY, Texas (KXII) - Two Fannin County commissioners and two oth-
ers have filed a petition to investigate dropped felony theft charges, a legal step that could lead to a lawsuit against former county officials and the county itself.
Allen “AJ” Self, Dean Lackey and two additional petitioners filed the petition under Texas Rule 202, which allows for an investigation before a formal lawsuit is filed.

determine whether their constitutional rights were violated when they were charged and to potentially file a lawsuit for malicious prosecution, which could have implications for local taxpayers. Judge Cunningham responds Judge Cunningham addressed the allegations during Tuesday morning’s Fannin County Commissioners Court meeting. His full statement can be found at the bottom of this article. “It’s been alleged that I didn’t go to law enforcement,” he said in part. “By golly gee I did go to law enforcement. I went to the FBI because I knew the FBI was involved and could trust them.” Other parties involved in the case did not respond to requests for comment. In lieu of an interview or a written statement, Judge Cunningham asked us to publish his comments from the meeting Tuesday morning. His full speech is as follows: “I had stopped talking on the subject of the courthouse and the repairs that needed to be done and the lawsuit where the county could have recov-

The original charges against Self, Lackey and the others stemmed from a courthouse restoration project. Background on the case In 2024, the Fannin County District Attorney’s Office charged former Judge Creta Lynn “Spanky” Carter, commissioners Self and Lackey, and architects involved in the courthouse restoration project with felony theft. The DA’s office later passed the case to Dallas County prosecutors due to a conflict of interest. Dallas County dropped the charges last summer, citing a lack of sufficient evidence. What the new petition claims The petitioners allege that former District Attorney Richard Glaser and outgoing Judge Newt Cunningham initiated the court case without involving law enforcement. The filing claims the theft charges were brought based solely on witness testimony to a grand jury, with no police reports. Self and the other petitioners are now seeking documents and testimony of their own. The end goal of the filing is to

Fannin County Commissioners Meeting • County Wide Polling Place Program Approved • Judge Cunningham Addresses Pending 202 Discovery
By Tim Meek
The Fannin County Commissioners met on Tuesday, July 21, 2026 at 9:00 AM for a regular meeting of the Fannin County Commissioners Court. Quorum was established with 2 Commissioners and Judge Cunningham present. Commissioners Waggoner and Self were absent. Attendance at start of meeting was 18 citizens present with 78 participating on ZOOM. 5. Public Forum. Fannin County Judge Cunningham spoke regarding the pending 202 discovery deposition that names the Judge and former DA Richard Glaser. “I had stopped talking on the subject of the courthouse and the repairs that needed to be done and the lawsuit where the county could have recovered hundreds of thousands of dollars and my complaint about the commissioners court shutting all that down. We accepted the building as being complete when it wasn’t. We passed up on a chance to get maybe a couple million dollars for the county. Passed up on that. Voted time and time again. Got rid of my attorney that was helping me on the case. Got rid of my maintenance man who knew what was wrong with everything. Interesting. There are allegations made that generally a request for a 202, that’s a discovery deposition. There are things I can talk about and things I can’t talk about. I can’t talk about what went on at the grand jury. I can’t talk about other things that are prohibited by law. I’ve got an attorney who’s going to be involved in the process. It’s going to go through the court system. How did we get here? When I first got in office, there were obviously things wrong with the courthouse. I went to Commissioner Self. He told me, ‘oh, it’s too late. We’ve got a certificate of occupancy and we’ve accepted the building.’ Well, golly gee, I’m an attorney and I knew that wasn’t the case. So my antenna went up. Then I was contacted by some people who told me that there had been some unlawful things that had gone on. I had people, at least one, tell me they were in fear of their lives. Now, it’s been alleged that I didn’t go to law enforcement. But golly gee, I did go to law enforcement. I went to the FBI because I knew the FBI was already involved and could trust them. Shared information with them. I shared information with our DA at the time. I was not involved in making the decision to indict. I testified. That’s the limit of it. Now, where are we? We’re at a place now where we’ve got a possible suit against the county where monies can be recovered by people who were involved in what would have resulted in judgments, in my opinion, against them. Not a good thing, but I believe in our system and I believe the truth will out. So bear with us. It’s going to be a difficult time, but I think the truth will out.” ROUTINE ITEMS: 6. DISCUSSION AND POSSIBLE ACTION ITEMS: 18. Approved 19. Discussion and possible action to approve moving forward with the County wide Polling Place Program through the Secretary of State – County Clerk. Fannin County Clerk Jenny Garner addressed the Court “Since I took office in 2024, we’ve discussed and carefully considered the county-wide program, measured risk and needs, and fields. We are adequately prepared to implement this system at this time. It’s noteworthy to point out that, as I said, we’ve been combining locations for the last three elections, beginning with the general election in November of 2025. Parties opted to use the same 7 locations in March and in May in 2026. This has set the stage already for reducing the number of county-wide locations available, and I believe that right now is a good time to do this, instead of moving backwards, where we’re trying to staff 17 locations. And in fact, I don’t believe we’re capable of doing that any longer, so it will be combined in the future, moving forward, regardless of whether we go with county wide voting. The biggest advantage to county wide, truly, is that you can vote wherever you would like. One of the other concerns I have heard is regarding whether or not there is assurances that you would receive the correct ballot under these circumstances. But we have been managing that with early voting, with all 17 precincts voting at the Armory for early voting for years. And we have never had any problems of any kind. I think this is in the county’s best interest. I’m, hoping that you feel that way as well, and I think it’s important also that we do address whatever concerns that our citizens have.” Both Fannin County Party Chairs supported moving to County wide
voting. Approved 20. Discussion and possible action to approve Order amending budget; April 2026 through June 2026 budget amendments – County Auditor. Approved 21. Discussion and possible action to approve the 20262027 Organizational Chart – County Auditor. Approved 22. Discussion and possible action to approve the Fannin County Grant Policy – County Auditor. Approved 23. Discussion and possible action to approve Preliminary Plat for Bois d’Arc Valley Estates, Property ID#s R000080608 & R000109815 on FM 2216 in Honey Grove; Seventeen 2+ acre lots – Development Services Director. Approved 24. Discussion and possible action to approve submitting the 2026 Unclaimed Capital Credits for Counties form through the Texas State Comptroller’s Office . Approved OPEN DISCUSSION ITEMS: Open discussion items may be passed on unless discussion requested by a member of the Court or a Citizen. 27. County budget and revenue sources – County Judge. County resident Dale McQueen addressed the court “I know a few weeks ago, I was before you, and, you were looking at a $1 million deficit before, now it’s up to $1.9 something. I’m not sure we’re following the truth in taxation deal. You are guaranteed the same amount you had last year, no matter what, from the taxpayers that paid last year, even with all those that had disappeared. You also can get 3.5% more. And so, that’s where I’m having a problem. Why was the 7-6 budget saying you were getting less money than you did last year from the Tax Appraisals Office? That’s not possible unless you purposely set the tax rate too low. Now, you can do that, but if you do that, that’s basically financial mismanagement. You should not be doing that to this county. What’s happened is, your voter approval tax rate last year was .412. What I don’t think a lot of people understand, the sales tax is part of this. You had a lot of sales tax come in the year before, November and December of 2024. You had $600,000 to $700,000 in sales tax you did not expect. That got rolled into last year’s Tax rate, which dropped your rate to the .350. So, I’m not sure y’all get that sales tax, it’s part of your taxes that go into what you can spend. This year, just based on the approval… the numbers that the appraisal district has had so far, your tax rate should be about .433. And that rolls in your debt rate also. But your sales tax is only going to be about $2.2 million entered into this year. So it’s going to drop your voter approval rate down to about .38. So you’re still going to bring in more money than you did last year, no matter what just because you had those other things happen. The truth in taxation gets rid of that amount. It guarantees you get the same amount last year. No matter how many taxpayers are left, you get the same amount you did, plus the 3.5% increase. And then you get new property on top of that. All I did was look at some of the revenue side, and one of them was the, abatement side, the pilot programs. The BESS plant should actually be paying for 600 megawatts, not 300. It runs for 2 hours. Every other plant in the state, they would get paid for 600. And we have talked to the people who run the BESS plant. It is 600 hours. Send them a bill in October for that amount. If they don’t pay it, you can break the abatement. I hope you don’t. Because… The abatement will actually pay you much more than you would collect in taxes if they were on the tax roll over the
next 10 years. Y’all set the taxes that you were going to collect in sales tax across the budget at $2.877 million for this year. You are never going to hit that. You’re going to collect about 2.25 in this coming year. And so… and if you’ll correct the tax abatements, that’s another $252,000. And so, there’s no reason you can’t go back to what you put in the Truth in Taxation form for this year. That’s conservative value, but be conservative. City of Bonham has already told people their estimated sales tax for what they budgeted is going to be 5% lower. So yours is going to be lower than what you expect to. So, you still have a problem in the budget, but it’s not as bad as it looks, because you’ve unrealistically set the .3503 rate, and that is not the actual sales tax rate, or the property tax rate that you’re going to be using. Your budget’s not quite as bad as you think it is.” 28. Fannin County roads, water issues and risk assessment – County Judge 29. Solar, wind, battery energy storage systems and Fire Marshal – County Judge 30. E m e r g e n c y Medical Services – County Judge EXECUTIVE SESSION(S) AND ACTION IF NEEDED: 31. Everyone is WELCOME!
Predatory gambling is one of America’s biggest and most neglected problems. We didn’t realize how powerful corporate gambling interests are in TX. Casino marketing preys heavily on the poor, the elderly, and the less educated population. Young adults are at particular risk for developing addiction through online sports betting. Attend our meeting on the 28th and learn what TFR is doing to prohibit predatory gambling in every form and how it is working to protect us, the tax payer, from the harms that come with the expansion of gambling in the Lone Star State. Destin Sensky is the Executive Director at Texans for Fiscal Responsibility. He has served conservative causes for over 10 years, including roles in the Texas Senate, as a Capitol journalist, and as a leader on campaigns across the state. Though a native of Tennessee, he has called Texas home for over 18 years. He is a graduate of Louisiana State University where he studied Agricultural Economics, Agribusiness, and Political Science. He and his wife reside in Johnson County.

Volleyball seasons start Monday, Aug. 3, across Texas for high school programs. It will be tough to outdo 2025 for a trio of Fannin County varsity teams. Here's a brief reminder about last season, before the new campaigns commence: Ector with a regional quarterfinal advance made its deepest postseason trip in the sport in school history. The Lady Eagles also won their most matches (22) in a single season, including their first two playoffs wins. Leonard won its first playoffs match, thus made its first area-round advance and totaled its most singleseason wins (34) in school history in volleyball. Dodd City (24-14) made its deepest advance in volleyball since 2020 with a regional semifinalist effort. It took the best to prematurely end the seasons of all three. Blum in Class 1A and Boyd in 3A-II, respectively, got past the Lady Hornets and Lady Tigers en route to titles. Sulphur Bluff reached the 1A regional finals after having to rally past the Lady Eagles.

up. Then I was contacted by some people who told me that there had been some unlawful things that had gone on. I had people, at least one, tell me they were in fear of their lives. Now, it’s been alleged that I didn’t go to law enforcement. But golly gee, I did go to law enforcement. I went to the FBI because I knew the FBI was already
involved and could trust them. Shared information with them. I shared information with our DA at the time. I was not involved in making the decision to indict. I testified. That’s the limit of it. Now, where are we? We’re at a place now where we’ve got a possible suit against the county where monies can be recovered by people
who were involved in what would have resulted in judgments, in my opinion, against them. Not a good thing, but I believe in our system and I believe the truth will out. So bear with us. It’s going to be a difficult time, but I think the truth will out.” Copyright 2026 KXII. All rights reserved.

Fannin County Criminal DA John Skotnik Press Release
street at a high rate of speed, eventually driving wildly on the lawns of several individuals where he almost struck a home. 911 callers and neighbors continued to observe and the defendant eventually drove through a fence and struck a donkey. When a concerned neighbor came out to check on the situation, the defendant ran aggressively toward her. After telling the Defendant to stop and not come near her, she was able to retreat and lock herself in her home just before the Defendant attempted to unsuccessfully force himself through her door.
U l t i m a t e l y, both county and local law enforcement arrived and quickly took the defendant into custody. He was extremely agitated, was irrational, and had symptoms consistent with methamphetamine consumption. The donkey was stunned but made a full recovery. “The quick and decisive action of the home owners involved here, as well as law enforcement, resulted in a scenario where, fortunately, no one was hurt. Attempting to force yourself into someone’s home is never acceptable and should be met with severe penalties.” said First Assistant Criminal District
Attorney Nathan Young. Assistant District Attorney Andy Garner added that “We appreciate the cooperation of law enforcement and the witnesses involved in this case during trial preparation. Ultimately, our office was able to secure a plea that was near the maximum sentence and also resulted in the Defendant waiving his right to appeal.”
Nicholas Stan Crawford Pleads Guilty
“Nicholas Stan Crawford, 36, of Bonham, pled guilty to Attempt to Commit Burglary of a Habitation and Felony Criminal Mischief and was sentenced to 14 years in the Texas Department of Criminal Justice Institutional Division for on July 22, 2026. Judge Christina Tillett of the 336th District Court presided over the plea. On February 26th law enforcement from both the Fannin County Sheriff’s Office and Trenton Police Department were dispatched to a reckless driver in a quiet neighborhood near County Road 4910. Concerned individuals initially called when they observed the defendant drive his pickup back and forth down a residential

Eternal Optimism
Recently my sister was playing with her 5-year-old grandson when, out of the clear blue, he asked, “How long has it been since your mother died?” “Well,” she replied thoughtfully, “My mother died in 2014, so it's been twelve years. I sure do miss her.” Thinking a little more, the young man asked, “How old were you when she died?” “I was 53 years old when she died,” my sister replied. “WOW”, he said with excitement, “You got to see your mother for 53 years!” If that is not looking at things with a positive attitude, I don’t know what is. How do you see similar situations? What do you see when you look at a partially filled drinking glass, a glass half full or a glass half empty? We’ve all heard the old axiom: an optimistic person sees the glass half-full while a pessimistic person sees it half empty. My sister’s grandson is easily identified as a glass-half-full little person. While I have always considered myself a generally optimistic person, I have to ad-
mit that many times the glass looked half empty. Even the most optimistic person will occasionally get pulled down by the stresses of life. Financial stress, health issues, broken relationships, and the death of a loved one are just a few of life’s hardships that can cause pessimism. But I believe the most optimistic people in the world are – or at least should be – Christians. God’s word is filled with the reasons God’s children should be eternally optimistic. Any time life starts getting us down, no matter the reasons or circumstances, God’s word provides reasons for optimism. As Christians, we have reason for optimism by virtue of our very faith and trust in God. “May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit,” (Romans 15:13). “There is surely a future hope for you, and your hope will not be cut off,” (Proverbs 23:18). “Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds,
Mike and his wife, Jill,

Collin County for over forty five years, where they raised their three children, Tara, Shae, and Matthew in Allen. In addition to running his own business, Mike has been an active member of the East Dallas Rotary Club and currently serves at the Prestonwood Rotary Club. He has devoted over 17 years to Rotary service, currently as the District Governor. He spent six years as Assistant Governor and has served as the AG
the club's RYLA chair for more than twenty-five years. Mike's engagement extends to the North Texas soccer community, where he held the position of President of Texas Spurs Football Club for many years. He is an alumnus of East Texas A&M University and serves as Director Emeritus of the board of directors of their Alumni Association. His commitent also includes involvement with the

because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance,” (James 1:2-3). Despite this admonition, I often find it hard to look at the glass as halffull during a stressful time. It is hard to see the benefits to be derived from many of life’s trials. During stressful times we must remember that Christ proclaimed, ”Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.” (Matthew 11:28-30). Christians are optimistic because we have our Christian brothers and sisters to support us in hard times. “Carry each other’s burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ,” (Galatians 6:2). “And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another— and all the more as you see the day approaching,” (Hebrews 10:24-25). The fact that God is always with us is another source of
for
great joy and optimism. “So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand,” (Isaiah 41:10). “If I rise on the wings of the dawn, if I settle on the far side of the sea, even there your hand will guide me, your right hand will hold me fast,” (Psalms 139:910). “And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age,” (Matthew 28:20). I find optimism in the fact that we always have direct access to God. “Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” – Philippians 4:6-7 And finally, I am optimistic because on every page of Scripture there are additional reasons for eternal optimism.
Currently, they care for

Crown Jesus King Of Your Life
Calvary Baptist Church Bonham, Texas When I was a student at Midwestern State University in Wichita Falls, I wrote a paper that got a big, fat “D.” I had never gotten a D before, so I went to the professor and asked why I got such a low grade. He explained that it was because of the very poor choice of words in describing the major turning point in my life. In describing that, I wrote about becoming “convicted”
of my sin and “surrendering” my life to Christ. He strongly objected to those words for some reason. I tried to explain the reasons I used those words, but he wouldn’t hear of it. I still stand by those word choices today. The Holy Spirit definitely “convicted” me of my sin. As He did that, I definitely “surrendered” my life to Him and put Him on the throne of my life. To surrender your life is to
crown Jesus King of your life. It is to allow Him absolute reign over our lives. The greatest freedom we can ever experience in life is not found in American citizenship. It is found in surrendering your life and becoming a slave to Jesus Christ. Would you do that today? For His Gory, Lyn and Lissa
Adoption In Christ
Hello everyone!
This week’s devotion comes from Romans 8:15. This verse gives us a contrast of two ways of relating to God: living in fear under bondage versus living as God’s adopted children through the Holy Spirit. Paul is reminding believers that they are no longer slaves to sin or condemned by the law. Before we trusted in the Lord Jesus Christ, we are bound by sin and often live in fear. This includes, but is not limited to, fear of judgment, guilt, or separation from God. Through Jesus Christ, we are set free from the fear and bondage of our past. When someone places their faith and trust in Jesus Christ, and accepts Him as their Lord and Saviour, the Holy Spirit comes to dwell within them. God then adopts them into
His family, thus giving them the full privileges of HIs children. Adoption simply means that believers are no longer outsiders, but are loved, accepted, and have an eternal inheritance through Jesus Christ (see Romans 8:16-17). “Abba” is an Aramaic word that expresses a close, trusting relationship with a father, conveying intimacy, affection, and confidence. Because of the Holy Spirit, we, as believers, can come to God not merely as a distant Creator, but our loving heavenly Father. When fear, insecurity, and guilt arise in our lives, we must remember that our standing before God is based on His grace through Jesus Christ. If you belong to Christ, you are His child, and you can always come to Him in prayer with the confidence of a son or daughter calling
on a loving father. This verse reminds us that the Christian life is not primarily about fear of punishment, but about the assurance, love, and security that come from being adopted into God’s family. In 1908, John Oxenham wrote this classic hymn that comes from the message in this passage. “In Christ there is no east or west, In him no south or north, But one great fellowship of love Throughout the whole wide Earth. In him shall true hearts everywhere Their high communion find. His service is the golden cord Close binding humankind. Join hands, then, children of the faith, Whate’er your race may be! Who serves my Father as a child Is surely kin to me.” Bro. Josh Stevenson
Christians Should Be Scared
By Mike Dickison Minister for the Ivanhoe Church of Christ
There are many things that frighten us. These are called phobias. There seems to be a phobia about everything. As Christians, we must realize that there are things for us to be ‘scared’ of. Christians should be scared of SIN. James helps us understand the progression of sin and it’s end result, “every man is tempted, when he is drawn away of his own lust, and enticed. Then when lust hath conceived, it bringeth forth sin: and sin, when it is finished, bringeth forth death” (James 1:14-15). Paul reminds us there we are to “dead to sin” (Romans 6:2). Isaiah educates us about the frightfulness of sin by explaining that “your iniquities have separated between you and your God, and your sins have hid his face from you, that he will not hear” (Isaiah 59:1-2). Christians should be scared of SATAN. We should recognize Satan as the enemy. Peter said to “Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour” (1 Peter 5:8). Satan even tried
to tempt Jesus in Matthew chapter four. We also understand from John that Satan is recruiting other to help him. “He that committeth sin is of the devil; for the devil sinneth from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that he might destroy the works of the devil” (1 John 3:8). Satan is the one we must fight against. James instructs us to “Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you” (James 4:7). Jesus told Saul that he was sending him to the Gentiles to “open their eyes, and to turn them from darkness to light, and from the power of Satan unto God, that they may receive forgiveness of sins, and inheritance among them which are sanctified by faith that is in me” (Acts 26:18). Sadly enough, Paul told Timothy that “some are already turned aside after Satan” (1 Timothy 5:15). Christians should be scared of HELL. Hell is an awful place of torment. Jesus said that “The Son of man shall send forth his angels, and they shall gather out of his kingdom all things that offend, and them which do iniquity; And shall cast them into a furnace of fire: there shall be wailing and
gnashing of teeth” (Matthew 13:41-42). The Lord goes on to tell us that Hell is everlasting; “Then shall he say also unto them on the left hand, Depart from me, ye cursed, into everlasting fire, prepared for the devil and his angels” (Matthew 25:41). Christ also informs us that we must avoid Hell at all costs because the fires of Hell shall not never by quenched; “And if thy hand offend thee, cut it off: it is better for thee to enter into life maimed, than having two hands to go into hell, into the fire that never shall be quenched” (Mark 9:43-44). Imagine having to spend eternity with all the evil doers. John records the list of people that will be in Hell; “the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death” (Revelation 21:8). There are things on earth that startle us, but consider the things that will cost us eternity. Be scared of Sin, Satan, and Hell. It will help us to “seek first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness” (Matthew 6:33).
by Wil Pounds The LORD God knows me because He made me, and since He made me, I am responsible to Him for my actions. That’s probably the biggest reason why people do not want to accept the fact that God created man. But whether a person acknowledges the facts about creation or not, he or she will still have to answer to Him personally. The Psalmist David observed that the LORD God “formed my inward parts; You wove me in my mother’s womb” (Psalm 139:13). Our Creator not only created the first man Adam, but He continues to create. There is not another person on the face of this earth with the same genes, DNA, and chromosomes. I am a unique person, custom made by God for a specific purpose in history. No one else can fulfill that purpose in history; no one else can fulfill my purpose. Thank God that you are who you are. His resources have already been revealed in creating you. “I will give thanks to You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made; Wonderful are Your works, and my soul knows it very well” (Psalm 139:14). Have you
thanked God for making you just the way you are? “My frame was not hidden from You, When I was made in secret, And skillfully wrought in the depths of the earth; Your eyes have seen my unformed substance; And in Your book were all written The days that were ordained for me, When as yet there was not one of them “ (Psalm 139:15-16). I worship a God who knows me and is near me. He created me for today. There is only one me. I am a pattern that God will never use again. In all the time to come, there will never be another me. I am somebody. I am a unique creation of God. Therefore, I must be found doing the will of God. My responsibility is not to seek the praise of men, but to be what God made me. Have you considered who you are in God’s eyes? Have you in humility thanked Him for making you so wonderfully complex? The Lord’s work is marvelous. The Psalmist catches his breath and declares, “How precious also are your thoughts to me, O God! How vast the sum of them!” (v. 17). “How weighty are your designs” (NAB). “How immeasurable
your concepts are” (R. K. Harrison). “How hard it is to grasp your thoughts” (Jerusalem Bible). “How deep I find Your thoughts” (NEB). “How precious and weighty!” (Amplified Bible). How odd that in our day the U. S. government and the politically correct no longer refer to the unborn child as a baby. The fact is no one likes to think about killing an unborn baby so it has been renamed a fetus or an embryo or human tissue. God said it is His creation fearfully and wonderfully made. It is a baby custom made by God. The LORD said to Jeremiah, “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, and before you were born I consecrated you; I have appointed you a prophet to the nations” (Jer. 1:5). Each one of us is custom made by God. Wil is a graduate of William Carey University, B. A.; New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary, Th. M.; and Azusa Pacific University, M. A. He has pastored in Panama, Ecuador and the U. S, and served for over 20 years as missionary in Ecuador and Honduras.

PSALMS 23 The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want. He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: He leadeth me beside the still waters. He restoreth my soul: He leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name’s sake. Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; Thy rod and thy staff they comfort me. Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: Thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: And I will dwell in the house of the LORD for ever.

Mary Frances Vest, 94, of Bonham, Texas, passed away peacefully on July 21, 2026, at the Wesley House in Bonham. Born on June 21, 1932, in Cleburne, Texas, Frances was the daughter of Clarence and Clara Hodo. She married the love of her life, Morris Junior Vest, on January 8, 1951, in Celina, Texas. Together they shared 55 wonderful years of marriage before his passing in 2006. Frances was a woman who found joy in life’s simple pleasures and treasured every moment spent with family and friends. She loved sitting on her front porch with a cup of coffee, watching the cars pass by, and never missed her favorite game shows. She was a talented cook, remembered especially for her homemade hot rolls and the many fruits and vegetables she lovingly canned and shared with family, friends, and neighbors. One of Frances’s happiest places was Sandy Creek Ranch, where she spent countless summers caring for those around her. She made sure everyone who came to work at the ranch had something to eat, whether it was her famous squirrel dumplings, fresh vegetables from the garden, homemade hot rolls, or even a simple bologna sandwich. She found great joy in taking her children to the swimming pool at Sandy Creek Ranch, though she always stayed on the side because she joked that she would start choking if the water got above her ankles. She never learned to swim, and that became one of the many stories her family loved to tell. Her generous heart, warm hospitality, and gift for making everyone feel welcome were among the many ways she showed her love. Frances also loved playing “42,” camping, gardening, tending her yard, vacationing in Branson, and spending time with family and friends. She especially enjoyed watching her grandchildren play sports. Frances was preceded in death by her parents, Clarence and Clara Hodo; her beloved husband, Morris Junior Vest; her son, Michael Vest; her grandson, Dustin Elk; her brothers, Vernon Hodo and Wesley Hodo; and her sister, Dorothy Russell. She is survived by her son, Mark Vest and wife, Debbie, of Windom; her daughters, Becky Elk and husband, Daryl, of the Boyd Community, and Sharon Walker and husband, Tim, of the Sandy Community; her grandchildren, Eric Vest, Amber Sutherland and husband, Sean, Mitzi Jones and husband, Cody, Hunter Walker and wife, Amanda, Heather Sears and husband, Kyle, and Haley Krebs and husband, Benjamin; her great-grandchildren, Katie Baldwin and husband, Braden, Abbie Sutherland, Sadie Jones, Sterling Jones, Aidan Connell, Ethan Walker, Dylan Walker, Hudson Walker, Landyn Reaves, Melanie Sears, Clara Sears, Drake Krebs, and Brooke Krebs; her sister, Lonita and husband, Othal; along with numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends. She will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing and loving her. A visitation was held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 25, 2026, at Seventh & Main Baptist Church in Bonham. Funeral services followed at 11:00 a.m. with Bro. Ricky Granstaff officiating, assisted by David Eaton. A graveside service was held at 3:00 p.m. at Cottage Hill Cemetery in Celina, with Bro. Cody Nelson officiating. Serving as pallbearers were Eric Vest, Hunter Walker, Cody Jones, Kyle Sears, Sean Sutherland, Jack Vest, Steve Vest, and Ernie Vest. Honorary pallbearers were Mitzi Jones, Amber Sutherland, Heather Sears, and Haley Krebs. The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the staff of Wesley House, Guardian Hospice, Debra Granstaff, and Frances’s dear friends at Wesley House, Ann Stroud and Polly Murray, for the exceptional love, care, and compassion shown to her. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Dustin Elk Scholarship Fund or to the Windom SNAP Center. God’s Garden: God looked around His garden And found an empty place. He then looked down upon the earth And saw your tired face. He put His arms around you And lifted you to rest. God’s garden must be beautiful He always takes the best. He saw the road was getting rough And the hills were hard to climb, So He closed your weary eyelids And whispered “Peace be thine.” It broke our hearts to lose you But you didn’t go alone, For part of us went with you The day God called you home.

Notice of Stage 1 – MILD Water Shortage Condition - Still In Effect Michael Keene, Mayor, City of Dodd City, Texas, has determined that continued Implementation of applicable provisions of the City’s Drought Contingency Plan is necessary to protect public health, safety, and welfare. Stage 1 – MILD Water Shortage Condition is still in effect.
