News Release - For a month from June 6 to July 4, 1944 Allied soldiers came ashore at Normandy, many never walking past the first few yards before being killed by awaiting Germans or stepping upon one of the remaining mines. Unit reports give a description through many eyes. “We were headed straight for the enemy now,” noted one. “Quite privately we sensed the void in the pit of our stomachs. Many of us would be losing our lives.” Some landed first, some in at least six following waves of troops. John Milton Good was born in Cooper, but grew up in Paris. It was quiet when his 83rd Infantry Division landed near Carentan, but still dangerous. Many jumping into the water were also sick from the rolling decks
of the craft they rode in on. Good saw to his left at Omaha Beach the result of the initial assault by the First Infantry Division, or what became known as the Big Red One. But, by then so little action was around Good that he even grabbed a long stick, reached around a concrete wall, flipped open a satchel, and out rolled a pristine German flag. He kept it as a souvenir the rest of his life. On July 23 at 7 p.m. in the Audie Murphy Museum, Greenville, Texas, Dr. John C. McManus, professor of history at the Missouri University of Science and Technology in Rolla, will lecture on the invasion as seen from the eyes of the 1st Infantry. They helped clear the path for the thousands of soldiers riding the waves out in the Channel awaiting their turn to land. A storm delayed the debarkation, but when quiet the men could hear the action ashore. One report read, “There they were…the sheer, forbidding cliffs of France, smack in front of us. Not two miles away. We wondered how the hell the D-Day boys had managed them.” Dr. McMa-

Anderson Post No. 283 of the American Legion. Joe was friends with Sam Rayburn and conducted Rayburn’s funeral on November 18, 1961. The only issue with the funeral was from the fact that seating for the funeral followed State Department protocol, where government officials received priority seating while others could not fit into the First Baptist Church where the funeral took place. Joe was the person called for the deaths of the Rayburn family members, from Rayburn’s mother Martha in 1927 to his siblings and their spouses into the 1970s.
Joe was part of several organizations over his lifetime including the First United Methodist Church, First National Bank, Bonham Rotary Club, the Bonham Independent School District Board of Trustees, Bonham Chamber of Commerce, Bonham Masonic Lodge, the Texas State Board of Morticians, and the National Selected Morticians. Serving over 50 years as a mortician, he witnessed several changes to the industry, from horse-drawn hearses to the changing lengths of funeral services to the introduction and acceptance of embalming the deceased. He maintained the home and farm where he was born, and liked to hunt and fish. “Mr. Joe lived a professional closeness to hundreds of families that

Fannin County Democratic Delegates
Press Release - Four delegates from Fannin County traveled to Corpus Christi to represent local Democrats at the 2026 Texas Democratic Convention, joining thousands of delegates from across the state for three days of party business, policy discussions, candidate speeches, and grassroots organizing. The convention brought together more than 5,000 Democrats from every corner of Texas to prepare for the November elections and adopt the party's platform. Representing Fannin County were Bill Roberts, Brenda Davis, Sandra Miller, and Jessica Neely who were selected during the county convention held earlier this year. Their participation ensured that the voices of rural Northeast Texas were included in statewide discussions on education, health care, infrastructure, economic development, and voting rights. The delegates carried with them the legacy of one of Texas' most respect-
ed public servants, Sam Rayburn, whose longtime home near Bonham remains a symbol of principled leadership and public service. Rayburn, the longest-serving Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives, was known for his commitment to rural Texas, bipartisan cooperation, and the belief that government should improve the lives of everyday Americans. His home in Fannin County continues to remind Texans of the county's significant place in the state's political history. Throughout the convention, delegates attended general sessions featuring Democratic leaders from Texas and across the nation, participated in caucus meetings, and voted on party business. The gathering also provided opportunities to network with activists, elected officials, and community leaders working to strengthen Democratic organizations throughout the state. For Fannin County Democrats, attending the state convention repre-

sented more than a political event— it was an opportunity to ensure that rural communities remain part of the conversation as Texas continues to grow and change. By participating in the convention, the county's delegates helped shape the direction of the Texas Democratic Party while honoring a tradition of civic engagement that stretches back generations. From the home of Sam Rayburn to the convention halls of Corpus Christi, Fannin County continues to demonstrate that even smaller rural counties have an important voice in the future of Texas politics. Home Country: Slim Randles Two kids were arguing just outside my window the other day. Now that school’s out, they have more time for the important issues of life, of course. This time, the subject was ghosts and whether or not they are real. People my age have to plead guilty to the capital crime of having gray hair, and therefore aren’t qualified to participate in such weighty matters. But if they had asked me, they might have been surprised. Of course there are ghosts. We’re surrounded by them. Maybe they aren’t scary or grab you from behind, but they are ghosts just the same. See that rusting tank on the edge of town? That’s all that’s left from when George Dodson started that tannery back in the 1920s. He was doing all right then, until the Great Depression came along, and George and the steel tank became ghosts … a part of our history, but still somehow here with us, still a part of what makes this community our home. Just up Lewis Creek a mile are the sloping concrete walls of what used to be a dairy.

As kids, we’d sneak over … quietly, so we didn’t spook the cows … and watch the men milking. The huge Holsteins walked in from force of habit like animated milk factories, which they were. Seems like there should be something someone could do with that old milking barn. Now it’s just hard to go by and see the weeds thickening around it as it lies there in the unrelenting sun and cracks to pieces. Down on Main Street is the old ice cream store where we used to go the very first time we had nerve enough to ask a girl to go with us. We’d bite the ends off the drinking straw covers, dip the remaining ends in chocolate syrup, and shoot them with a puff of breath to stick on the ceiling, like stalactites of young love. But today it holds the video rental store. Times change. Businesses change. People come and then leave us. But the ghosts remain. And the ghosts are the ones who make us what we are today. I wish those kids would ask me about them.

Have a great time at the
We will display quilts from the Magoffin Home State Historic Site this July as part of our participation in the Bonham Quilt Hop and Fiber Arts Show on July 24th and July 25th from 9:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. James Wiley Magoffin established Magoffinsville, a forerunner of present-day El Paso, around 1849. His
family later built an adobe home in 1877 that became the social center of their community, and you can visit this historic home in 2027 once renovations are complete. Visitors may e n t e r the Sam Rayburn House for free during the Quilt Hop and tour the rooms
where these quilts are on display. Full house tours will not be available during this event. We will also offer spool knitting lessons for $1.00 per person during the Quilt Hop (supplies provided). We are grateful to the Magoffin H o m e SHS for allowing us to exhibit
their beautiful quilts! The Sam Rayburn House is located at 890 W. State Hwy 56 in Bonham, TX. For questions about the Quilt Hop exhibit at the Sam Rayburn House, contact us at (903) 583-5558 or email Margo.McCutcheon@thc.texas.gov. For more information about the Magoffin Home SHS, you may call them at (915) 533-5147, email MagoffinHome@thc.texas.gov, or visit www.visitmagoffinhome.com

How Strong Is Your Faith?
Hello everyone!
This week’s devotion comes from Matthew 8:2327. This passage teaches both who Jesus is and how His followers should trust Him and depend on Him in times of fear and trouble. In verse 23, we see that the disciples follow Jesus into the boat willingly. This does not mean that life will be an easy road with no difficulties. Even though we, as Christians, are obedient unto Him, we will no doubt still experience trials. James reminds us that we should count it all joy when we face temptations, and that the trying of our faith brings forth patience. In verses 24 and 25, a fierce storm comes and threatens the boat while Jesus is comfortably asleep. Their response shows both fear and faith. They are scared to death for their lives, yet they still turn to Jesus because they believe that He is their only hope of survival.
In verse 26, Jesus gently rebukes them for their lack of faith. His question shows that fear often grows when our faith becomes weak. Jesus then demonstrates His divine and absolute authority over creation by calming the storm with His command. In verse 27, the disciples were amazed because they witnessed something that God alone has the power to do. In summary, this passage teaches us that Jesus is Lord over all creation. The disciples’ fear is met with Jesus’ power and compassion as He calms the storm. We are encouraged to put our faith in Jesus Christ during the hardships that we face in this life, because we know that the Master of the wind and waves is with them and is fully able to care for them. The lesson that we can take from this passage is that we should never let our fear overcome our faith. Written by Kathrina von Schlegel in 1752 and
translated by Jane Borthwick in 1855, this classic hymn comes from the message in this passage. “Be still, my soul! the Lord is on your side; Bear patiently the cross of grief or pain; Leave to your God to order and provide; In every change he faithful will remain. Be still, my soul! your best, your heavenly friend Through thorny ways leads to a joyful end. Be still, my soul! your God does undertake To guide the future as he has the past; Your hope, your confidence, let nothing shake; all now mysterious shall be bright at last. Be still, my soul! the waves and winds still know His voice who ruled them while he lived below.”

Jesus Christ Is Enough!
John 14:6 Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me. Jesus has taken care of everything for us for our eternal life. Colossians 1:13-20 Who hath delivered us from the power of darkness, and hath translated us into the kingdom of his dear Son: In whom we have redemption through his blood, even the forgiveness of sins: Who is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of every creature: For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions. or principalities, or powers: all
things were created by him and for him: And he is before all things, and by him all things consist. And he is the head of the body, the church: who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead; that in all things he may have the preeminence. For it pleased the Father that in him should all fulness dwell; And, having made peace through the blood of his cross, by him to reconcile all things unto himself; by him, I say, whether they be things in earth, or things in heaven. When we read these verses we can see that Jesus Christ loves us and He paid the price of the Cross of Calvary to pay our sin debt in full. On the cross Christ said it was fin-
ished. He did all that needed to be done to redeem our soul. He went to the cross shed His blood, died, was buried and He arose the third day just as the Bible tells us He did. By faith it is up to us to ask His forgiveness for trusting in ourselves to save us and to ask Christ to save us. He loves us. He did it all. Christ said it is finished and it is finished. Is today your day to be saved? Read John 3:16-18, Romans 5:8 and I John 4:19. Jesus loves you. Pastor Bernard Antonis, Jr. Gospel Light Baptist Church Cooper, Texas.
Carefully Read the Warning Label
by Wil Pounds Depravity. That is not a beautiful word. It means that the corruption of sin has extended to all aspects of our nature, including our entire being. Because of that corruption there is nothing man can do to merit or influence in any way a saving relationship with a holy God. The fallen person’s relation to a holy God has been radically affected. Because of the effects of the fall, man’s original relationship with God was broken and our entire nature was polluted. As a result of the Fall of man, no individual can do anything, even religious things, that will merit salvation, or eternal life, in God’s sight. There is nothing an individual can do to influence in a positive way a right relationship with God. No action that man does, no matter how good or religious can gain favor with God for salvation. What was affected by the Fall? The mind (Rom. 1:28; Eph. 4:18), the conscience (Heb. 9:14), the heart or inner being were all corrupted spiritually (Jer. 17:9; Mk. 7:20-23). We see the depravity of mankind most clearly in the rejection of Jesus Christ in John 1:11. “He came to His own, and those who were His own did not receive Him.” Spiritual depravity is demonstrated by the willfulness and spiritual blindness of everyone apart from the grace of God. The cross of Jesus Christ is the response of fallen man to the goodness of God (1 Cor. 2:14). How far did man fall? The Bible tells us that when
man fell into sin he fell all the way to the bottom and there he lies hopelessly lost, blind and spiritually dead, unable to help himself until God reaches down by grace, lifts him up and gives him spiritual life through the new birth (Rom. 3:9-18). Left to ourselves we are not the least bit righteous. Sinful man has no ability to save himself (Jn. 1:13). We are corrupted by sin and in rebellion against God. The apostle Paul tells us how our sinfulness affects a holy God. “The wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who suppress the truth in unrighteousness” (Romans 1:18). The wrath is revealed against us because we are without excuse (vv. 18-32; cf.1:18; 2:5, 8; 3:5; 4:15; 5:9; 9:22; 12:19; 13:4-5). The reality and terror of the wrath of God is emphasized in both the Old and New Testaments. The Bible places emphasis on the wrath of God as a strong and settled opposition to all that is evil. This holiness comes from God’s very nature. He is a holy and righteous God. The wrath of God is that in His character that is in absolute opposition to all that contradicts His holiness. God does not flare up with red hot anger as human beings do, but His wrath is described in the Bible as a firm, fearful, hatred of all wickedness that builds up and will one day result in eternal condemnation of all who reject His grace and mercy provided through the atoning death of His Son, Jesus Christ. Robert Haldane said, “The wrath of God was revealed when the sentence of death was first pronounced, the earth cursed and man driven out of the earthly paradise, . . but especially by the reign of death throughout the world. It was proclaimed by the curse of the law on every transgression and was intimated in the institution of sacrifice and in all the services
of the Mosaic dispensation. . . . The whole creation has become subject to vanity and groans and travails together in pain. . . But above all, the wrath of God was revealed from heaven when the Son of God came down to manifest the divine character, and when that wrath was displayed in His sufferings and death in a manner more awful than by all the tokens God has before given to His displeasure against sin.” Biblical Christianity is God reaching down to save perishing sinners, not men and women reaching out to Him. Jesus Christ died for those who deserve God’s wrath. His death is fully adequate to cover all our sins and depravity and to reconcile us to God (1 John 1:6-9; Rom. 3:21-26; 5:12-21). Jesus Christ is our only hope. Be sure and read the label. There is a day coming when men are warned to flee the wrath of God (2 Thess. 1:6-10; 2:11-12; Heb. 10:2931). The coming of Jesus Christ a second time will be suddenly and unexpectedly. Some will meet Him as their Judge and other as their Savior. If you have never put your trust in Jesus Christ for eternal life I pray that you will right now. Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and you shall be saved today from the wrath of God for all eternity. On April 3, 2011, Betty married the love of her life, Charles Wilson, in Honey Grove, Texas. Affectionately known as “Betty Boop” to Charles, the two shared a loving marriage filled with faith, laughter, and unwavering devotion. Together they attended Leslie Chapel Church in the Georgia Community. Above all else, Betty’s greatest joy was her family. She adored her children, but nothing brought her more happiness than being “MeMaw” to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. PSALMS 23 The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want. He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: He leadeth me beside the still waters. He restoreth my soul: He leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name’s sake. Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; Thy rod and thy staff they comfort me. Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: Thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: And I will dwell in the house of the LORD for ever.

Jon (Jonathan) Thompson Banker
Jon (Jonathan) Thompson Banker was born on July 20, 1960 and passed from this life on July 14, 2026. Jon was an avid historian, world traveler, dog lover, and sports enthusiast. Above all, he was a man who loved deeply. He was preceded in death by his beloved parents, Willie Faye Thompson Banker and Clarice Ennis Banker, and by his brothers, Emery, Sam, Jackie, and Dan. He is survived by his brother, Bill Banker, and sister-in-law, Valerie; his sister, Carole Knudsen; his sister-in-law, Alice Banker; his special friend, Gabe Lane; and his son by choice, whom he loved unconditionally, Preston Thompson and his wife, Gina. He also leaves behind his cherished granddaughter, Zella, the apple of his eye, and his grandson, Dominic, along with nine nephews, four nieces, and countless great-nieces and great-nephews, all of whom he loved dearly. Jon often said that he loved literally hundreds of his former students, many of whom he remained in close contact with over the years. You know who you are. His capacity for love was extraordinary. Most importantly, Jon loved his brothers and sisters in Christ, and he loved the Lord. If there is one theme that defines his life, it is love. He loved well. “He that loveth not knoweth not God; for God is love.” 1 John 4:8 Services for Jonny Banker will be held at Honey Grove Church of Christ on August 1st at 2:00 with Brother Preston Boles officiating. The family will hold a visitation at the church at 1:00 prior to the service.
God’s Garden: God looked around His garden And found an empty place. He then looked down upon the earth And saw your tired face. He put His arms around you And lifted you to rest. God’s garden must be beautiful He always takes the best. He saw the road was getting rough And the hills were hard to climb, So He closed your weary eyelids And whispered “Peace be thine.” It broke our hearts to lose you But you didn’t go alone, For part of us went with you The day God called you home.

2/5/19 Wardens Remove 62 Impaired Operators, Report No Texas Game Boating Fatalities During Fourth of July Weekend
AUSTIN – Texas Game Wardens maintained a strong presence on lakes, rivers and coastal waters across Texas during the Fourth of July holiday weekend. They contacted more than 10,800 vessels while participating in Operation Dry Water, a nationwide campaign focused on reducing the number of alcohol- and drug- related incidents and fatalities through
awareness and enforcement of boating under the influence on the state’s waterways. Between July 3-5, 417 game wardens contacted 10,817 vessels, issued 1,466 citations and 1,974 warnings for various boating safety violations, filed 62 boating while intoxicated (BWI) charges and four driving while intoxicated (DWI) charges. Wardens also made 20 additional arrests for various
other offenses. The 62 BWI charges represent the highest number filed by Texas Game Wardens during the Fourth of July holiday weekend since 2019. Despite responding to 25 boating incidents over the weekend, game wardens did not receive any reports of boating-related fatalities, although numerous incidents involved serious bodily injury.

There were also two open-water drownings; one at Lake Hawkins in Wood County and one at Lake Palo Pinto in Palo Pinto County along with numerous calls for boating assistance statewide. “Thousands of Texans and visitors safely enjoyed time on the water this holiday weekend, and we’re grateful the majority of boaters made responsible decisions by wearing life jackets, avoiding alcohol and watching out for each other,” said Col. Ron VanderRoest, Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD) Law Enforcement Division director. “At the same time, the two lives lost are a sad reminder of how quickly tragedy can strike and the importance of remaining vigilant.” In addition to boating safety enforcement, game wardens responded to numerous significant incidents, including several vessel collisions, a reported hit-and-run involving a personal watercraft, medical emergencies, arrests for possession of controlled substances, multiple suspected human trafficking cases discovered during calls for service and proactive enforcement, and the rescue of a kayaker who had been in the water for approximately three hours without a life jacket after capsizing. Boating safety education was a priority throughout the weekend. Through TPWD’s Adopt-A-Ramp program, our invaluable volunteers made 393 contacts with boaters at Joe Pool Lake, Lake Lavon and Lake Bastrop, sharing information about boating laws, life jacket use and safe boating practices before people launched. As part of the outreach effort, TPWD also hosted a Fill the Boat life jacket donation event at Cedar Hill State Park. The event collected 23 adult life jackets, three youth and infant life jackets and three canine life jackets. Once inspected, the donated life jackets will be distributed to area life jacket loaner stations to help make safety equipment more accessible to the public. “Texas Game Wardens did exactly what Operation Dry Water is designed to do by identifying and removing impaired operators before someone gets hurt,” said VanderRoest. “While we’re proud of the work wardens accomplished this weekend, the safest holiday weekend is one where everyone chooses to avoid alcohol and drugs on the water.” Texas Game Wardens will continue proactive boating safety patrols, education efforts and outreach throughout the summer, encouraging everyone on the water to wear a properly fitted life jacket, designate a sober operator, monitor changing weather conditions and complete boater education.

Texas Crop and Weather Report
Texas A&M AgriLife July 14, 2026 - by Kay Ledbetter North Temperatures hovered around 100 degrees with high humidity across much of the district, and 1-4 inches of rain fell in some areas over the weekend. Corn was drying down rapidly, and harvest was expected to start early, while soybeans looked strong and were blooming and setting pods. Sorghum aphids were showing up in grain sorghum, and armyworms were spotted in isolated areas. Hay harvest was active, with good yields
but some quality losses were tied to maturity at cutting. Producers harvested grapes and blackberries, watermelons, okra and figs with tomatoes and peppers still producing, squash tapering off and peach, plum and pear harvests wrapping up. Feral hogs were active in some areas, and drought was creeping into parts of the district that missed the recent rains. Livestock conditions were fair to excellent, and pasture and rangeland ranged from poor to excellent. East Rainfall was highly uneven,
with some areas picking up 1-3.5 inches while storms missed other areas entirely. Grazing and forages were browning up where rain was scarce, and regrowth after hay cutting had stalled in drier pockets. Elsewhere, pastures and hay fields remained in excellent shape, with many producers well into a second cutting. Bermuda stem maggot and armyworm infestations were reported in hay fields, and pasture mealybug had producers worried across several counties. Livestock markets stayed exceptionally
strong with prices steady to higher. Livestock were in fair to excellent condition, and pasture and rangeland were in poor to excellent condition. Central Hot, dry conditions with strong south winds continued across the district. A few areas caught 0.5-1 inch of rain over the weekend with more expected. Corn dried down rapidly, corn
silage harvest wrapped up, and limited grain harvest operations began. Sorghum approached maturity, and sorghum aphid populations were a concern. Cotton progressed nicely with all fields blooming and setting bolls, though a short bloom cycle from the dry weather pushed many fields to or near cutout. Stink bugs and spider mites were the primary cotton pest concerns, with
some fields already being treated for stink bugs. Hay was being cut and baled, and pasture mealybug was reported in multiple counties. Ponds were dropping in some areas, with signs of fish kill in the driest spots. Fire danger climbed as vegetation cured out. Livestock were in poor to good condition, and pasture and rangeland ranged from very poor to good.

South: Wet weather occurred this week across much of Tennessee, portions of northern Alabama, much of south-central and western Louisiana and portions of eastern and south-central Texas. The heaviest rains exceeded 5 inches in parts of Texas and Louisiana, while 2-5 inches of rain were common in parts of Tennessee. Temperatures across the region were mostly within 3 degrees of normal, except for the southern Texas Panhandle and western north Texas, where temperatures were commonly 3-6 degrees warmer than normal. Temperatures from 3-6 degrees below normal occurred along the Rio Grande near Del Rio, Texas. From eastern Texas across southern Louisiana, and in Tennessee and far northeast Arkansas, this week’s rains lessened or locally eliminated precipitation deficits and led to improvements in soil moisture and streamflow. Conditions were reassessed and improved in parts of western and southwest Texas, adjacent western Oklahoma and the Oklahoma Panhandle and in parts of western and northern Arkansas, where recent precipitation has lessened mid-term precipitation deficits and locally improved streamflow and soil moisture.

Three Rodeo Legends

Roots of Texas Rodeos
Many rodeo events were based on the tasks required by cattle ranching. The working cowboy developed skills to fit the needs of the terrain and climate of the American west, and there were many regional variations. Some of the skills required to manage cattle and horses date back to the 16th-century rodeo traditions of the Vaqueros in the lands of the Viceroyalty of New Spain, present day Mexico and the American Southwest. On July 4, 1883, in the frontier town of Pecos an argument between Trav Windham, a cattle driver, and Morg Livingston, an accomplished cattle roper, led to what the Encyclopedia Britannica refers to as the “world’s first public cowboy contest” and is often referred to as the first official rodeo. The two men chose to have the competition on the flatland on west side of the Pecos River. The July 4th public holiday allowed ranchers, cowboys and townsfolk to attend. Many other ranchers and cowboys chose to take part in the event including Jim Mannin, John Chalk, and Brawley Oates, many whom traveled from distant ranches. Windham would end up winning the roping contest. Other winners include Pete Beard of Hashknife Ranch and Jeff Chism. Prize money was $40 and blue ribbons donated by a young resident. Rodeo-type events also became popular for a time in the big cities of the Eastern United States, with large venues like Madison Square Garden playing a part in popularizing them for new crowds. There was no standardization of events for a rodeo competition until 1929, when associations began forming. In the 1970s, rodeo saw unprecedented growth. Contestants referred to as “the new breed” brought rodeo increasing media attention. These contestants were young, often from an urban background, and chose rodeo for its athletic rewards. By 1985, one third of PRCA members had a college education and as many as one half of the competitors had never worked on a cattle ranch.Today, some professional rodeos are staged indoors in large, climate-controlled arenas and many are telecast. Other professional rodeos are held outdoors.

Testimonials
1/13/26
Rotary Club President Corey Fagan was in charge of this week's program and invited Samantha Lumpkins with the Bonham Area Chamber of Commerce to speak. Samantha gave an update on what is happening at the chamber. She said
the big change right now is that Autumn in Bonham is being moved away from the square. Putting up barricades and closing streets hurt the downtown businesses. Therefore, Autumn in Bonham will be held this year, Oct. 3, at the Roy Floyd Building at the Trades Day grounds. Another change is the route will go into part of Lamar County. One other thing that Samantha is excited about is the Chamber 101. These are held quarterly and for new members, who will learn what the Chamber is all about, and what the Chamber can do for them. The next Chamber 101 is scheduled for Thursday morning, August 13. Samantha said the Chamber is growing and will require more personnel soon. She thanked all the members for their support. July 2026 - Crews recently completed the top section of the lake’s spillway, including the 13-foot-tall labyrinth weir that helps control how water leaves the lake and maintains its maximum water level. With that key piece in place, the intake structure gates were closed, and Lake Ralph Hall officially began to fill in early July. This milestone marks the end of major construction on the reservoir itself. How long it takes for the lake to fill depends on rainfall and could be three to five years. We will continue to share updates as the lake fills.
