Last week a letter was published in the Leader that created a bit of a stir. It was apparently written by a gentleman who was highly critical of words my opponent had used to described himself during a political debate. I choose not to go into detail about these words out of respect for my opponent, whom I consider a friend. Heaven knows I have been the recipient of critical posts as well from those who do not support me.

Politics can be unnecessarily ugly! More so than I had ever considered when my family and I made the decision to set out on this campaign trail. The mild stuff was expected and easy to take. Comments like, “Do you know how to drive a tractor?” “We don’t need change.” and most recently, “Big City politics is not the change needed for Rural America.” (That last one I’d have to agree with, however, I don’t believe positions such as my insistence on county leaders being Fiscally Responsible with our tax dollars remotely qualifies as “Big City politics”.)

Of course, the attacks that raise my ire the most are from the occasional resident who stares at me and flatly states, “This is not a woman’s job. A road crew of men doesn’t need to be taking orders from a woman!” (Yes, right here in OUR county, and not just from men.)

Shortsighted comments like these tell me all I need to know about such a person, and having my teenage daughters witness this has provided a terrific lesson in life.

The point I am making is, as your candidate for County Commissioner, my message will remain the same. I will continue to stay above the fray providing DETAILS on my PLANS to improve our county, and how I will DELIVER on these through EFFECTIVE LEADERSHIP. If 20 years at a police department has taught me anything, it is the importance of Unity, Preserving your Values, and Staying Focused on the Mission!

Portions of my Plan include: • Immediately begin cutting & clearing ditches of debris – water carries away expensive gravel and must be channeled off road surfaces.

• Career/Skill development training for Equipment Operators – provided at low cost through Texas A&M Engineering Extension Service (TEEX).

• Quality Analysis and Control program – Every job will have supervisory inspection and sign-off by my Foreman or me personally. We work for YOU. • Modernizing maintenance schedules for the care of County-owned equipment.

• Communication – establishing a Schedule of Operations allowing residents to know when crews will be in their area.

• Quarterly Newsletter – informing residents of progress made, challenges ahead, and opportunities to better our community.

• Establish Pct. 1 Website for reporting maintenance needs, complaints and letters of appreciation.

• Public access to my direct cellphone number where calls are promptly returned.

• Budget transparency through publishing a simplified overview of how YOUR taxes are being spent.

While growing up on a farm in the state of Mississippi, the holiday that we enjoyed observing in the summer time was the Fourth of July. By that time each year the growing crops would have received all their cultivation and we would have some

time away from the fields before harvesting would begin. My family always planned a big celebration. The meaning of the event would be to express thanks for the freedom provided by our country. I often thought there could be no greater feeling than this, but I would experience an

Are you looking for a different way to cook squash? You may want to try this recipe.

SQUASH CROQUETTE FRITTERS 2 cups yellow squash, grated 1 cup onion, grated or finely chopped 1 egg, beaten 1 tsp. salt 1 tsp. pepper 3 T. flour ¾ cup corn meal ¼ tsp. basil ¼ tsp. oregano ¼ tsp. garlic powder Oil for frying Combine all ingredients except oil. The mixture may be soupy, and if too much so, add a little more corn meal. Louisiana Fish Fry Breading may be used to mix in with corn meal, if extra thickening is needed.

Heat oil in heavy skillet. Drop squash mixture into hot oil by tablespoonfuls. Cook slowly over medium heat. Drain on paper towels.

6/11/19 Estates passed, with one Commissioner dissenting.

11 Judge Moore recognized Alan Hendrix of Freese and Nichols, who noted that the bridge and embankment improvements on CR 2980, to be accepted by Order 2020-06-23, is one of nine NTMWD projects, six of which have been completed. The construction began in March 2019, and the walk-through was done last Friday. He commented that the east end of CR 2980 is still inaccessible because of another construction project, and he suggested instead of taking CR 1743. A motion to accept the Order passed.

12 Alan Hendrix explained that the bridge and embankment improvements on CR 2680 was another of the nine projects, begun in December of 2018, and inspected on Friday.

Commissioner Magness noted that the new bridges are a vast improvement for Fannin County roads. A motion to approve Order 2020-06-23a accepting the improvements passed.

13 A motion to approve the renewal of the Lake Fannin Facilities Rental Agreement from July 2, 2020, to July 1, 2021, passed.

14 Development Services Director Lita Huffman explained that the requested replat of Lot 5 for Delby Estates on CR 3940 in Leonard was to divide a 10acre lot into three sections for family purposes. A motion to approve the replat passed.

15 Lita Huffman explained the request to replat Lots 9 and 10 on CR 4524 for Forest Glen Addition in Whitewright was a similar family agreement. A motion to approve the replat passed.

16 Purchasing Agent Michelle Case has received requests Countywide for PPE from the CARES Act funds, including Plexiglass, signs, sanitation wipes and dispensers, and would like to be approved for up to $2,000. County Clerk Tammy Biggar added that additional personnel to clean election equipment between voters for local elections may not be reimbursable with the CARES Act funds. Clerk Biggar estimated the required second week of early voting could cost as much as $1,600 of unbudgeted funds. The question of personnel was set aside until more information could be gathered, and a motion to approve the $2,000 purchase of PPE for the County passed.

17 Commissioner Lackey presented for consideration a list of procedures and classifications regarding the Culvert Permitting Process and right-of-way policy in Grayson County, and the adoption of a similar policy for Fannin County. Commissioners discussed details of the plan and adaptation and implementation of the procedures. The item was passed on until the correct wording for the Culvert Permitting Process was decided.

18 Judge Moore opened discussion on selling properties owned by Fannin County by noting he’s had people express interest in a portion of land near a County warehouse. Commissioner Magness added that there is County-owned property

allow the interlocal rate to be automatically adjusted to reflect 10/9/12 the regular increase or decrease in the daily charge an inmate incurs. A motion to accept the revised Agreement passed.

21 A motion to approve the payment of bills passed.

22 Purchasing Agent Michelle Case clarified that Sparklight internet service used to be CableOne, and explained that five office locations contracted with Sparklight will need their contracts renewed for another three years. She noted that though some of the offices will eventually be moved to the Courthouse, she has it in writing that Sparklight will waive any

penalties for canceling the contract for those offices. A motion to approve the contracts with Sparklight passed.

23 and 24 At 10:53 a.m. Commissioners entered into Executive Session to discuss 1) EMS contracts and 2) county personnel raises.

25 and 26 Judge Moore reestablished regular sessions at 11:12 a.m. Commissioners passed on a discussion of both Executive Sessions.

A regular meeting of the Fannin County Commissioners Court was called to order Tuesday, June 23, 2020, at 9:23 a.m.

by County Judge Randy Moore, at Bonham City Hall, and via teleconference. Judge Moore established quorum; all Commissioners were present. The invocation was given by Reverend Stuart Courtney of Bethlehem Baptist Church. Major James Manis led the pledges.

5 Public Forum: Major James Manis announced Texoma Heroes will recognize five heroes this Friday at noon at the MultiPurpose Complex. Jodie Gibbs spoke regarding the Lake Trail Estates rezoning.

6 Judge Moore relayed Governor Abbott’s announcement from the day before, which cautioned Texans to not forget about Covid-19. The number of cases has gone up across the State, and in Fannin County, the total leaped by 17 new cases in one week. Though early pre-

ventative measures have slowed the spread of Covid-19, with the reopening of the State the numbers of positive cases have nearly tripled, and the number of those hospitalized due to Covid-19 has doubled, all since the end of May. More stringent measures will be introduced if it seems the virus is getting out of hand, but the Governor intends to keep closing Texas as the last resort. Judge Moore noted that there will be two more drive-through testing opportunities at the Multi-Purpose Complex, the first hopefully this Saturday, and the second to follow after another two weeks.

Judge Moore strongly urged restaurant workers to wear face masks. He recommended the Fannin County Declaration of Disaster Proclamation for Covid-19 be extended one week until June 30. A motion to extend the Proclamation passed.

7 Judge Moore noted that there should be some editing to the Covid-19 Response and Continuity of Operations Plan for Fannin County regarding guidance for all court proceedings in the County and Court Operations section. A motion to accept the suggested editing and extend the Plan one week passed.

8 A motion to approve the minutes from 06/11/2020 passed.

9 Fire Chief Scott Ridling gave the EMS Profit and Loss Report for May 2020, commenting that Covid-19 has led to fewer ambulance calls and lower revenue, as people who are afraid of the virus avoid going to the hospital. Calls have begun to rise again to a more normal level.

10 Judge Moore opened a discussion on the zoning change for Lake Trail Estates. Commissioner Lackey noted that the original lake zoning was done as a starting point and that the Commissioners knew much of the land zoned for agriculture could be changed for housing or commercial purposes. Lake Trail Estates will be a reality, whether as an installment of 23 homes or 50, regardless of any action taken by the Court.

He commented that the County needs growth and that Lake Trail Estates will still have to go through a subdivision committee before being finalized.

Commissioner Lackey expects to see a much-needed economic impact on Fannin County with the taxes from the subdivision.

Commissioner Magness said he understands people live in the country to be away from other people, and that we can’t stop others from moving here to do the same. He is concerned about enforcing the deed restrictions. Commissioner Whitlock believes this development will be good for the County in the long run. Commissioner Self commented that development is one of the gains of Bois D’ Arc Lake and that it seems the owner of Lake Trail Estates is trying to be a good neighbor.

Judge Moore appreciated everyone’s points, and especially approved of the suggestion of having a safe zone or play area for children in the subdivision, though the County can have no say in whether that idea is adopted. A motion to approve the zoning change for Lake Trail

in Lake Crockett Estates, and it was determined there is unused land by Commissioner Lackey’s precinct barn as well as in Ector. Commissioner Lackey was hesitant to sell the piece in town by the warehouse as it could be valuable later. County Auditor Alicia Whipple will send an updated list of Countyowned properties to the Commissioners so they can decide which ones to sell. Revenue can go into a Capital Projects Fund for use in constructing County buildings. No action was necessary.

19 Judge Moore asked Commissioners to select the Insurance Plan Option through the Texas Association of Counties Health and Employee Benefits Pool for the 2020-2021 fiscal year, and Commissioners opted to continue with the same plan they have been using. Judge Moore commented that though Fannin County cannot compete with the salaries of nearby counties, it provides excellent insurance for its full-time employees. A motion to keep the same insurance as last year passed.

20 Judge Moore explained the reason behind revising the Interlocal Agreement between Grayson County and Fannin County is to ensure any Grayson County inmates housed in Fannin County’s facilities are paid for at the same rate as local inmates. This revision will

A proven leader, a trusted friend, Ronnie has volunteered his time and talents in this county for many years. In fact, you will find him quietly volunteering all over the county. He is on the board of the Fannin County Free Clinic and Mulberry Cemetery Association. Throughout the years, he has been consistently active in this community. He donates time and money to many causes, one near to his heart is the Ector ISD Beta club. But he doesn’t do these things for recognition. This is not something he has started doing because he decided to run for Commissioner. These are things he has done all his adult life. He does them because he sees a need.

Just like when he saw a need for an overpass at Hwy 82/FM 898. Ronnie went to work to make this happen. Although he would be quick to thank others who helped, it was Ronnie who wrote the petition and got the process started. He made phone calls, set up meetings with State Representatives, the Highway Department, and the community. He worked diligently on behalf of Precinct 1 and everyone who traveled those roadways, to improve the safety of the intersection. His efforts led to safety measures being implemented at the intersection and eventually the construction of an overpass.

Ask around and you won’t be surprised to hear about the many lives he has touched: a widow he has helped, an elderly gentleman he befriended, youth he has mentored, and friends and neighbors he helps whenever he can. One recent example is when Ronnie helped community members clean up after storms and tornadoes damaged property earlier this year. Helping his community is something Ronnie has always done and will continue to do. But you probably won’t see much about this in his campaign ads. Ronnie is a humble, honest, and hardworking man.

He is wise, and he is thoughtful in all decisions that he makes.

Commissioner Self asked residents to be optimistic and neighborly as new people move into the County, because growth is inevitable, and noted that TxDOT will be replacing a bridge on CR 4250 tomorrow and that another bridge on CR 4515 is closed until repairs can be made.

Commissioner Magness noted that CR 2250 is closed until TxDOT can replace one of its bridges. Commissioner Lackey commented that CR 2998 has a completed bridge that will be in use again next week, and noted that he will be adding a gravel surface to that County Road. He added that he sympathizes with the neighbors of Lake Trail Estates, but he believes this will be good for the County. Judge Moore shared the news that Reggie Smith’s father passed away last night, and wished all listeners a happy Father’s Day. Meeting adjourned at 11:18 a.m.

A&M-Commerce Students to Benefit from $100 Million Scholarship Fund

COMMERCE, TX—The Texas A&M University System Board of Regents recently created a $100 million scholarship fund which will provide scholarships to firstgeneration, low-income and under-represented populations who may not otherwise be able to attend college. A&MCommerce is slated to receive a portion of these funds, starting this fall.

The goal of the scholarship fund is to shift the student

population at the A&M System’s 11 universities to reflect the state’s demographics. In 2019, the population of Texas was 41.5% white, 39.6% Hispanic or Latino, and 12.8% black or African American.

“The goal is to make the A&M System look like Texas,” Chancellor John Sharp said in a recent A&M System press release.

The scholarship fund is in line with the A&M System’s strategic plan to provide an

accessible and affordable education to all students, regardless of socioeconomic background.

According to the press release, the program provides $10 million annually to A&M System universities over 10 years, and the participating universities will engage in fund raising to help support the effort.

The program is timely as it will assist individuals who have been negatively affected

Press Release - Either liberty matters, or it doesn’t. You can’t have it both ways, no matter what actions Governor Abbott or any local elected official takes or allows to be taken.

We have repeatedly heard the Governor say that local governments cannot enforce a requirement that individuals wear masks. Apparently though, local governments have cracked the riddle in the Governor’s executive orders that will allow them to punish a business that refuses to enforce the loss of liberty the Governor says he supports.

Say what?

That’s right. We now have a totally new law enforcement strategy. While the local law will require people to wear the mask, the people will remain immune to a government penalty if they choose to not comply. Enforcement responsibility will be levied on business owners. Business owners will become a de-facto law enforcement arm, but the only tool they will have to enforce the mask requirement is to refuse to sell to their customers and to kick them out

of their store. Won’t that be a real boost to our struggling economy?

In one fell swoop the Governor has managed to turn the rule of law, the role of government, individual liberty, and the free market on its head.

After the Shelly Luther fiasco where a citizen was arrested by a local government under the provisions the Governor made possible, the Governor was not about to be the culprit that directly required citizens to wear masks. Instead, he claims he authorized the city mayors and county judges to do it—they just couldn’t enforce it directly on the people. Instead he allowed the local governments to throw business owners under the bus by putting the responsibility for violating liberty on them.

Thus, the statement by Governor Greg Abbott: “Government cannot require individuals to wear masks.

However, pursuant to my plan, local governments can require stores and businesses to require masks.”

Now granted, if the wearing of masks was left to the free market wherein business had

the choice of making a business decision as to whether or not they would require their patrons to wear a mask, it would clearly be a free markets choice. (Like 30.06 signs) But that is not the case.

This means that business owners who allow a patron in their shop or office without a mask, will be subject to an unlimited number of fines that can be as much as $10,000 dollars per offense.

These are the same businesses that the Governor recently declared non-essential and ordered shut down for months.

And, if someone is caught in their store without a mask, the business owner is the person who must pay the fine or go to jail. Like I said before, bizarre, convoluted, and confusing.

It gets even worse. With this plan, the state has handed local elected officials a tool by which, and with impunity, they can pick winners and losers in their local jurisdiction. It is the perfect opportunity for some to exact revenge on business owners, who may be their competitor or supported their opponent

in previous elections. This is not a real good principle of liberty.

Texas has now gone full circle from a dictatorship to a republic, to a sovereign American State. Now it appears that as long as we allow the Governor’s actions under the Disaster Management Act, we are expected to live as if we have a monarchy.

Until March 2, 1836 Texas was a dictatorship under Santa Anna. We all remember the valiant fight for freedom embodied at the Alamo that lead to a free and independent Republic. On December 29, 1845 Texas became the 28th American state. Our citizens have always stepped up to fight for freedom around the world. Who knew the flame of Texas Liberty would be extinguished, by the stroke of a pen, without a shot fired?

Any elected official that is willing to take away our liberties should, at the very least, be willing to take responsibility for their actions without putting it on the backs of businesses.

Local governments should heed the sage advice that “just because you can, does not mean that you should.”

A Quilt Returns to Fannin County

During World War II Florencie Dizmond, who grew up near Lamasco and graduated from Bonham High School, met a handsome young Army GI from Indiana in Texas. The family story is that she was working as a waitress and met him at the café, although the town is not known.

Florencie apparently kept up a relationship with Leonard Walters during his time in the Army, because records show that he was released from Army service on December 13, 1945 and on January 1, 1946 the couple married in Indiana.

Mr. & Mrs. Walters continued to live in Indiana, but Florencie made many trips

to Texas to visit her parents, Estes and Winnie Dizmond.

During the early 1940s women from the Lannius community had made quilt squares embroidered with their names and gave them to Florencie. However, the squares were never made into a quilt.

In 2008 Florencie and her daughter, Rosemary Walters Blake, found the 24 quilt

squares and together mother and daughter put them together as3-26-19 a quilt.

The squares were made by Lamasco women including Fannie Langham Hammett, Rosa Coonrod, Evalyn Brent, Beulah Lasater, Zelda Lasater and Lillian Hunt (Moore) White.

Florencie died in 2018, and recently her daughter, Rosemary Blake, contacted the Fannin County Museum of History, hoping to return the quilt to Fannin County.

Public Opinions Overridden at Commissioners Rezoning Hearing

ence for a public hearing regarding the proposed zoning change for Lake Trail Estates.

Development Services Director Lita Huffman described the property, which is requested to have the zoning changed from agricultural to

single-family dwellings to be developed into a 50-lot subdivision. Lita Huffman noted that the developer has proposed 15 additional deed restrictions to ensure a quality subdivision and that the septic systems that will be utilized are completely legal.

there is no way to enforce them. She was also concerned that the influx of families to the development will result in a great number of new children with no safe place to play. She suggested a traffic analysis be done before permitting the property, and that the developer pays for any road improvements this analysis may require. Though she is not in favor of the zoning change, she believes that a little more compromise would make everyone happier about the situation.

The second neighbor to speak posed a series of questions for the Commissioners Court to consider as they make their decision. Questions addressed an analysis of the developer’s past successful projects, and considerations of a performance bond, restriction enforcement, a traffic impact study, and lake zoning regulations from 2018. The resident concluded by stating his opposition to the zoning change.

The third resident noted there is a dangerous corner on CR 2610, which will be used more frequently with the subdivision going in. She would be more comfortable if the original agricultural zoning were maintained and a smaller number of homes built.

The fourth resident opposed the rezoning for the safety of children living in the area, who often ride their bikes on the roads that will be used for the subdivision. She also stated that the County should not rezone because agricultural land is a precious commodity.

The fifth resident opposed the development and expects the possibility of an increased crime rate in the area.

The sixth resident echoed the concerns of her neighbors and asked if residents can expect to see every large tract of land in the area bought and developed into subdivisions. Zoning is supposed to limit this kind of development, and she commented that this instance should set a precedence for future similar situations. She said the decision of the Commissioners should be for the good of everyone, and not just one developer.

There were two comments in the teleconference chat, one asking whether an HOA will be put in place, and another asking if manufactured housing is the direction the county is choosing to take its future.

Cooper GOOD. Water lightly stained; 85 degrees; 0.16 low.

Largemouth bass are good on Texas rigged plastic worms, deep diving crankbaits, and jigs in 9-18’. The white bass are excellent in 12-30’ with slabs, jigs and jigging spoons over humps and flats. Crappie are good with minnows in standing timber and brush piles. Catfish are good on live and cut bait in 10-25’.

Lavon EXCELLENT. Water lightly stained; 85 degrees; 0.05 high. Crappie are excellent on minnows and jigs fishing 12-24’ over brush piles, timber, and bridges. White bass are excellent in the 10-30’ with jigs and slabs. Look for birds diving over feeding schools of white bass. Black bass are good on crankbaits, jigs, plastic worms and swimbaits in 7-18’.

Catfish are good on live bait and chicken liver in 8-25’.

Ray Roberts GOOD; Water lightly stained; 84 degrees; 0.40 high. Largemouth bass are fair on TX rigged worms, crankbaits, and jigs in 8-24’. White bass are excellent in 20-40’ on slabs and jigging spoons. Main lake flats, ledges, and dropoffs are holding fish. Crappie are good on jigs and minnows around bridges, standing timber and brush piles. Catfish are

excellent on live bait and chicken liver. Tawakoni EXCELLENT. Water lightly stained; 82-85 degrees; 0.09 high. Catfish are excellent on live bait, chicken liver and cut bait along brushy shorelines and rip-rap.

Largemouth bass are good on spinnerbaits, plastic worms, and crankbaits. White bass and hybrid stripers are excellent on swimbaits and slabs. Watch for diving birds to mark feeding schools or use sonar to locate fish feeding in schools of bait over deeper points, creek beds, and humps in the main lake.

Crappie are good on minnows and jigs around brush piles, docks, and marinas.

Texoma EXCELLENT. Water lightly stained; 82-86 degrees; 2.09 high. Striped bass and white bass are excellent on live bait and topwater baits when fish are near the surface. Diving birds are marking feeding schools on the surface throughout the lake. Use sonar to mark schools along the river channel. Largemouth bass are good fishing plastic creatures, shaky worms, jigs, swimbaits, and crankbaits in 8-28’. Crappie are good on minnows and jigs by boathouses, marinas and brush piles 12-25’. Catfish are excellent on cut bait, live bait, and chicken liver in 4-20’.

OBITUARIES HUBERT D. MCCARTY

A memorial service for Hubert D. McCarty was held Sunday, June 28, 2020, 2 pm-4pm, at his home.

Hubert passed away peacefully, at home, surrounded by his loving family, Monday, June 15, 2020.

Hubert was born in New Mexico, May 7, 1944 to Jack and Lois Lee McCarty. He owned and operated his own trucking business. He was a life-long trucker. Hubert enjoyed being with family and friends. Family gatherings were very important to him. He loved attending auctions and horse sales. Hubert never met a stranger. He was friends with everyone he came in contact with.

Hubert is survived by his wife of 34 years, Diane McCarty, of the home. Surviving family members also include: Daughter, Karen Briggs; Son, Donald Cotton; Step-daughters, Staci Holley, Tonja McCoy; Step-son Chris Fletcher; Brother Tom McCarty and wife Eva; Sisters: Evelyn Kukowski, Janet Golden and husband Tom, Betty McCarty, Brenda McCarty; Step-brother Charlie Lewis.

JERRY DON SIMMONS Jerry Don Simmons, 84, of Windom, TX died on W e d n e s d a y, June 24, 2020, after a lengthy illness. Born on August 26, 1935, to Melton Revere “Bud” and Laverne (Lackey) Simmons, he spent his childhood in Santa Anna.

After graduating from Santa Anna High School, he attended Howard Payne University, graduating in 1957 with a Bachelor of Science Degree. In 1962 he earned his Master of Education Degree from McMurry College.

Don was proud of his role as an education leader, which he began as a teacher at Coleman Junior High in 1957, the same year he bought his first car. He soon moved to Abilene ISD, where he spent the remainder of his professional career. From 1959 until his retirement in 1996, he filled many roles in the district: teacher, elementary principal, Director of Personnel, and finally, Assistant Superintendent of Instructional Services and Special Programs. Additionally, he held leadership roles in the Texas State Teacher Association and served as State President of the Texas Elementary Principals and Supervisors Association from 1976-1977 and State President of the Texas Association of School Personnel Administrator in 1984.

He was also involved in the Abilene Teachers Federal Credit Union, serving as the Chairman of the Board of Directors from 19751990.

A faithful member of First Central Presbyterian Church in Abilene, he served as an elder, deacon, lay minister and chairman of numerous committees. After moving to Windom in 1997, he joined Windom United Methodist Church where he similarly sought to be of service to the church community, teaching Sunday School Class, serving on committees, maintaining the church grounds and interviewing church members to create a

written record of the church’s membership and history. He felt a strong obligation to serve and lead in all areas of his life; in Windom he served on the City Council for eight years before being elected mayor, a position he held for five years.

Don was preceded in death by his parents, Bud and Laverne; two sisters, Joyce Simmons and Shirley Crawford; and a brother, Terry Simmons. He is survived by his wife, Betty; brother and sister-in-law, Pete and Linda Simmons; sister-in-law, Karen Simmons; three stepchildren and their spouses; Ken and Kristine Hall, Charlie and Susan Fajardo and Jon and Hayley Hall; beloved grandchildren; Connor Hall, Collin and Valerie Hall, Callum Hall, Kylee Kittrell, Kameron Kittrell, Mark Fajardo, Marisa Fajardo, Will Hall and Marie Hall; great grandchild, Amelia Hall; as well as numerous nieces and nephews, loving friends and extended family.

A private graveside service will be held at Dodd City Cemetery at a later date by close family.

In lieu of flowers, the family request that memorial gifts be directed to First Central Presbyterian Church in Abilene, 400 Orange St., Abilene, TX 79601; Windom United Methodist Church, PO Box 936, Windom, TX 75492 or to the Honey Grove Public Library, 500 N 6th St., Honey Grove, TX 75446 in his honor.

The family wished to thank the staff at Honey Grove Nursing Center for their loving and attentive care over the past few months. It was truly his home away from home.

BonhamGary Glyn, Ingram, age 57, was born on February 28, 1963 in Bonham, TX to Elmer Allen Ingram and Mary Helen (Todd) Allen he passed away on Sunday, June 21, 2020 at his home surrounded by his loving family.

Gary worked in assembly for a reel company. Cremation 6/30/20 arrangements are under the direction of Cooper-Sorrells Funeral Home Bonham, TX. The family will have a memorial service at a later date.

He is survived by daughters, Stephanie Johnson and husband William “B.J.” of Ravenna, Alishia Michele Ingram and Shawn Hodge of Telephone and Ashleigh Ingram of Bonham; grandchildren, Kaden, Collin, Caleb, Blake, Dylan, Hunter, Christian and Emily; brother, Robert Ingram of Sherman and sister, Vicki Preslar of Ivanhoe.

GILBERT (GIB) M. FIELD

Gib Field (95), longtime resident of B o n h a m , passed away on Monday, March 23, 2020, in McKinney, Texas, after a very brief illness.

Gib was born in Utica, Kansas, to Malcolm and Jenny Field on February 21, 1925. At a young age, the family moved to Twin Falls, Idaho, where he was raised. He married Esther Ford Field on February 21, 1945, in Denver, CO. Gib devoted his life to the ministry with over 50 years of service, mostly in the Methodist Church. After a few years of living in Colorado, the couple moved to Iowa where they raised their family. He earned a Master of Divinity Degree from Garrett Theological Seminary in Evanston, Illinois, and a Bachelor of Arts Degree from the University of Iowa. After years of ministering in the southeast and central portions of Iowa, he and Esther moved to Bonham, Texas in 1986, and were members of The First United Methodist Church.

Gib was a man who required little sleep. It was commonplace for him to write his sermons or spend quiet time reading to the wee hours of the morning. He was not one to lack creativity. If he was in need of a gadget that he didn’t have, he’d improvise by coming up with the most unconventional solution. His creations were definitely fodder for family entertainment. His nap time was important to him.

Every afternoon he could be found in his lounger with an egg timer nearby. His family would joke about his proverbial quest to find the perfect length of time for a nap. He would constantly vacillate between 15, 16 or 17 minutes as the ideal time. No one would accuse him of being an idle person. He was constantly in motion. Even at 90 years old, he was still driving, mowing his land with his tractor and climbing roofs. If he didn’t have some project to do, he would fill his time by puttering. He could putter with the best of them. He loved spending time on his computer.

Later in life, his poor hearing made it difficult to communicate on the phone, so email became his method of staying in touch with family.

Gib was blessed to have had two loves in his life. His first, was his wife, Esther, who he shared 59 years of marriage. A few years after her passing, he met a lovely woman from Bonham,

June Burgess. Until his death, they were constant companions.

He was preceded in death by his parents and wife . He is survived by June Burgess; his sister, Vi Edwards (Don) of Twin Falls, Idaho; daughter, Deborah Field (Kit Walker) of San Antonio, TX ; son, Joel Field (Kim) of McKinney, TX; granddaughter, Nicole Owens (Craig ) of McKinney, TX; grandson, David Field (Bria) of Celina, TX; greatgrandsons, Riley Owens, Witten Field, Weston Field and greatgranddaughter, Kaylin Owens.

Private Graveside Services at Bettes Cemetery in Ivanhoe, Texas were held for William Joseph Silva, age 64, of Ivanhoe, Texas under the direction of Wise Funeral Home.

William passed away Tuesday

night, June 23, 2020 surrounded by family.

William was born on July 25, 1955 in Newport Beach, California, the son of Manuel Silva and Sarah Caetano. He was a motorcycle enthusiast, especially for Harley Davidson bikes. He was a part of the Harley Parade in Paris, Texas last year where they broke the world record, having 3,497 Harley Davidsons in one place.

William was a jack of all trades; he loved working with his hands.

He was a dedicated father and loved God. William will be greatly missed. He is preceded in death by his parents, brother, Manuel Silva Jr., and sister, Elaine Avila Jones.

William is survived by his sons, Joseph Silva, Joshua Silva, and Michael Silva, all of Ivanhoe, Texas; daughters, Dawn Faccinto of Clovis, California, Kelly Willbanks and husband Cody of Telephone, Texas, and Elisha Silva of Bailey, Texas; sisters, Jeanne Lott and husband Mitchell of Fresno, California and Kathy Alves and hus-

band Louie of Hanford, California; brother, Anthony Avila and wife; grandchildren, Cole Faccinto, Cara Faccinto, Eli Lindsey, Grace Lindsey, and Samuel Willbanks; numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
