That’s three Texans killed each day. And the dangers are even greater if drivers combine substances. In fact, when alcohol and THC are used together, drivers are 25 times more likely to cause a fatal crash.

A mother’s greatest fear, realized When Sue Beatty dropped her daughter Carly off for her sophomore year at Texas A&M, she didn’t know it would be the last time she’d see her. Just a few weeks later, the 19-year-old was struck and killed by an impaired driver while walking home.

“She had her whole life ahead of her,” said Beatty. “Carly did not deserve what happened to her. She had hopes and dreams that have now ended…because someone chose to drive impaired.” Beatty wants drivers to remember that in a day and age where options like rideshare and public transit are available, there is no reason anyone should ever drive impaired. Impaired driving comes at a cost

o In the Paris District in 2025, there were 407 DUIall (drug or alcohol) related traffic crashes, resulting in 50 fatalities and 75 serious injuries.

“There is no safe level of impaired driving,” said TxDOT Executive Director Marc Williams. “Avoiding a crash or arrest doesn’t make the choice any less dangerous. The risk is real and the consequences can be permanent. Avoid the ‘what ifs’ and always drive sober.” It’s also important to remember that causing a crash isn’t the only potential outcome when driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol. Getting a DWI can result in time-consuming legal hassles and fines and fees up to $17,000.

Drive Sober. No Regrets. The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) will travel the state in a former beverage delivery truck retrofitted to deliver sober driving messages. The truck will feature a variety of engaging activities to teach participants about the dangers of impaired driving.

Fannin County Master Gardeners Recognized

On April 29, 2026, the Texas Master Gardeners Association hosted The Search for Excellence Awards to recognize outstanding Master Gardener projects, volunteers, and associations making a meaningful impact in their communities throughout 2025. During the awards ceremony, the Fannin County Master Gardeners Association placed 2nd for their

teaching site in the Redbud category. The Redbud category is for associations with 1-49 master gardener members.

The FCMG Awards Committee were Treva Gibbs and

Teo Hunter who submitted the entry form and impact statement. The Backyard Garden Project highlighted the design and creation of a demonstration garden based on EarthKind principles with an emphasis on native plants, compost, and cover crops. The goal was to utilize the garden to supplement the information presented during quarterly workshops hosted at the Fannin County Texas AgriLife Extension office where it is located.

Twenty-one Master Gardeners participated in the project. A fostered learning environment was created at every

stage. Members submitted their favorite plants via a survey. The survey results were presented in a committee meeting, and a final shopping list was collaboratively created. Several members went shopping at a local nursery. During planting and maintenance, members worked at will and on tasks that suited their physical capabilities. This work continues into 2026 with the addition of an arbor to trellis the climbing plants that were installed and planting of additional native perennials.

A special thanks goes out to our 2025 Programming Sponsors who supported this project: Twin Oaks Nursery; Bear Creek Country Store, Keystone Enterprises; Red Coop Feed and Seed; Fix and Feed; Green Machine Rentals; 160 Lawn and Timber; and American Legion Post 283 and our 2026 Programming Sponsors: Dadant Beekeeping Supplies - Paris; 160 Lawn and Timber-Whitewright; Community National Bank & Trust, Bonham; First United Bank, Bonham; The Nursery-Double O Seven Farms, Telephone; Legend Bank-Bonham; Red Coop Feed and Seed-Bonham; Stay Grounded Coffee Cafe, Bonham; and Twin Oaks Nursery-Denison. Born on October 27, 1920, in Bonham, TX, Earle W. Newton was the son of Lillan Wright and Samuel Newton. Earle served in the Army Air Forces from September 1939 to 1944. He survived the Japanese military attack on Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941. The Imperial Japanese Navy moved six fleet carriers across 3,000 miles of the Pacific Ocean in secrecy, launching a surprise attack on American troops in Pearl Harbor that killed over 2,400

service members and destroyed or damaged 19 warships and 300 aircraft within about an hour and a half. On December 8, 1941, President Franklin Roosevelt gave his “Day of Infamy” speech to a joint session of Congress and over the radio. Speaker of the House Sam Rayburn was sitting behind Roosevelt during the speech. After Roosevelt ended his speech, Congress voted to declare war on the Empire of Japan.

Earle later took part in the Battle of Midway in June 1942, a battle many people considered a major turning point of WWII because

The Right Question

Were you ever told you were asking the wrong question? Did you ever tell someone that? The scene occasionally plays out on TV or in a movie. One detective says to another, “We’re asking the wrong question; we need to ask why, not who.” Recently, it occurred to me that I have been asking the wrong question for decades.

Beth and I were reading the book “Reassured” by Gary Goff and his discussion of the Young Ruler found in Luke 18:18-25. During this encounter the wealthy ruler asked Jesus what he must do to inherit eternal life. Jesus knew the ruler’s heart and told him to give everything to the poor and follow Him. But the ruler’s love of money was too great, and he turned away sorrowful. Mr. Goff ended his discussion by saying the ruler had asked the wrong question. Instead of asking “What must I do to inherit eternal life,” he should have asked “What must I be to inherit eternal life?” (emphasis added)

The idea of asking this particular wrong question made me realize that I have asked the same wrong question. As I thought and studied further with this question in mind, I began to notice a significant difference between the Old Testament Mosaic law and the New Testament church. Beginning to understand this difference, in turn, provided me with a plausible answer to another question: Why did God have man live under the Mosaic law for centuries before establishing His church? Here’s what I mean.

When children are young, they lack the experience or maturity to make sound decisions, nor can they understand the reasoning behind most decisions. So, to provide for them, keep them safe, and teach them right from wrong, we must give them lots of dos and don’ts just because “I said so.” Under the Mosaic law, mankind was in its infancy, so God gave a series of mostly dos and don’ts to teach man what sin is (Romans 3:20, Romans 7:7). Starting with the Ten Commandments (Exodus 34:27-29) and extending through the book of Deuteronomy, hundreds of dos and don’ts make up the Old Testament Mosaic law that God’s people were under until the crucifixion and resurrection of Christ.

When our children are older and more mature, they know what is right, so our instruction to them evolves into providing guidance and direction. We want to help them develop the character needed to make good decisions. By the time Christ came to earth, mankind had learned about sin, so the New Testament church is less about what you are expected to do and is more about your faith and who you are. Yes, the New Testament has many dos and don’ts, but it has even more exhortations regarding faith and the character of faithful Christians.

As Christians, we are to be known by our sincere, loving character. Beginning with the beatitudes and the Sermon on the Mount (Matthew chapters 5, 6, and 7), Jesus’ ministry clearly lays out the faith and persona we must have to inherit eternal life. After the crucifixion and resurrection of Christ, His apostles and disciples continued to spread His teachings throughout the known world, providing additional clarity and motivation.

To me, the beauty of this approach to Christianity is that there is no need for lists of dos and don’ts; a true Christian instinctively knows what is right and good and wants to do what is right. As James said, “I will show you my faith by my deeds” (James 2:18 NIV).

Of course, Satan is constantly chipping away and looking for cracks in our Christian armor by using such worldly things as “sexual immorality, impurity and debauchery; idolatry and witchcraft; hatred, discord, jealousy, fits of rage, selfish ambition, dissensions, factions and envy; drunkenness, orgies, and the like,” Galatians 5:19-20. And because Satan is going about as a roaring lion (1 Peter 5:8), we must be constantly on guard. “Examine yourselves to see whether you are in the faith; test yourselves. Do you not realize that Christ Jesus is in you—unless, of course, you fail the test?” 2 Corinthians 13:5. We must always be striving for “love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness and self-control” (Galatians 5:22-23 NIV).

While the Old Testament law included what was most important (Matthew 22:36-40, Deuteronomy 6:5, Leviticus 19:18, Micah 6:8), the Jews still seemed to focus on the dos and don’ts. We must be sure we are not doing the same thing.

project in Fannin County. This project is part of Texas Nature Trackers, a citizen-science program of Texas Parks and Wildlife. Bois d’Arc members are serving as citizen scientists, following project protocols for a nine-week data collection effort. Master Naturalists are trained volunteers through Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service and Texas Parks and Wildlife who educate the public about Texas’ native fauna and flora.

The project is a statewide effort where our local chapter is joining over 30 other TMN chapters across the state to provide information on bat populations from the chapter areas to Texas

Nature Trackers for statewide conservation efforts and NABat for continent-wide conservation efforts. NABat is the North American Bat Monitoring Program. In this project, each week two locations receive acoustic monitors installed by Bois d’Arc members with landowner consent. Monitors are installed on Mondays and retrieved Friday mornings. The monitors are provided by Texas Parks and Wildlife. The acoustic monitors capture bat echolocation calls. The project began May 11, 2026 and will conclude July 10, 2026. Data is downloaded, and members will analyze the data using the Kaleidoscope Pro software which is designed to assist in the identification of specific bat species.

“The goal of the program is to collect data that identifies the different types of bats in Fannin County. The information will become part of the North American Bat Monitoring Program,” said Debra Jones, lead coordinator for the local chapter. “We are carefully following the protocols of the study so our data is accurate and usable. Bats eat insects at night totaling one-third to one-half of their weight. Bats are also great pollinators! So as you can see, they play a vital part in our ecosystem.”

This is the first year for the Bois d’Arc chapter to participate in the monitoring program, which began in 2024. The project concludes in 2028. Landowners participating in the project will receive a report each fall containing the types of bats detected on their property. This year’s ‘Data Reveal’ for landowners will be hosted at Bonham State Park on September 18, 2026. The following Saturday, members of the Bois d’Arc chapter will be at the State Park to share information about the study results and bats with the public.

Dads Make A Difference!

Calvary Baptist Church Bonham, Texas

Happy Father’s Day to all the dads! Fathers are so important to the fabric of our homes and our nation. Recent studies by the National Fatherhood Initiative indicate that there are currently 18.2 million homes that do not have a biological, step, or adoptive father in the home. Children in these homes are more likely to experience poverty, behavioral problems, criminal activity, prison, teen

pregnancy, and alcohol/drug abuse. Dads, you make such a difference! Just being there for your family makes a huge impact. Playing with them and connecting with them is so very important as well. The most important thing a dad can do is confess Jesus as Lord and commit to follow Him in all your ways. Jesus will provide the strength, wisdom, and character you need to an effective dad in your home. When the father

chooses to follow Christ, studies indicate that above 90% of those families will follow Christ also. There is also hope for single mothers who are raising their children on their own, Jesus has more than enough grace to give you everything you need to beet all of these statistics and raise very healthy, happy children as well!

“In the harvest field now ripened. There’s a work for all to do; Hark! the voice of God is calling To the harvest calling you. Does the place you’re called to labor Seem too small and little known? It is great if God is in it, And He’ll not forget His own. Little is much when God is in it, Labor not for wealth or fame; There’s a crown, and you can win it, If you go in Jesus’ name.”

Hello everyone! This week’s devotion comes from Psalm 37:16. This verse teaches us that it is better to have a small amount that comes from living rightly in the sight of God than to possess ill-gotten wealth. God values righteousness rather than riches. If we, as believers, follow after the Lord and live with integrity, we are blessed beyond measure by the Lord, even if we have very little materially. Next, we see that wealth cannot replace the favor of God. The wicked appear prosperous, but their riches do not bring the eternal peace, security, and blessings that only come from a relationship

Any wealth gained in this world is only temporary, but living for the Lord has a lasting significance. When we compare our lives to others, we must remember that the Lord’s measure of success is vastly different than that of this world. It is far better to have a humble life filled with faith, peace, and obedience than wealth without God. We must trust the Lord with what He has given us and be content in His care.

Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; Who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame and is set down at the right hand of God.

OUR FAITH IS FROM GOD

Romans 12:1-3

For I say, through the grace given unto me, to every man that is among you, not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think; but to think soberly, according as God hath dealt to every man a measure of faith.

Faith comes by hearing and hearing by the word of God. The Bible tells us God loves us.

Make today your first step of faith by asking Christ to forgive your sin and to save you.

God gives us our faith and trust in Christ.

By faith we come to Jesus and ask His forgiveness.

I BESEECH you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service. And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove

By faith we believe what the Bible tells us about Jesus.

By faith we believe that Jesus went to the cross of Calvary, Shed His blood for our sin, He died, was buried and He arose on the third day according to the scriptures.

Reading the Bible increases our faith.

Romans 5:8 But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. When we come to Christ by faith He gives us a measure of faith to help us in every difficulty in life. Does that mean we will never have another problem? No, it means you will have His help and His promises from His Word to guide you day by day.

God bless you as you pray for God's guidance and direction on your life.

Submitting Our Money To God

Most in our society would prefer not to submit to anyone. Most think of submission as being weak, but James wrote, by inspiration, “Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you” (James 4:7). Some try to Resist the Devil WITHOUT Submitting to God. Paul speaks of those “that perish; because they received not the love of the truth, that they might be saved” (2Thessalonians 2:10).

In the absence of truth,

Life Requires Balance family career time GOD without balance, TRUE happiness is fleeting include and make time for GOD

there is only dishonesty and lies. Jesus told some of his day that “Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it” (John 8:44). In the absence of submission to God, there is no resisting the devil. Jesus said “No servant can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and, love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon” (Luke 16:13). Paul reminded Christians that “Ye cannot drink the cup of the Lord, and the cup of devils: ye cannot be partakers of the Lord's table, and of the table of devils” (1 Corinthians 10:21). Christians, we must submit to God with our Money. It has nothing to do with wealth, but attitude. Solomon poured money into the temple in 1 Kings chapter eleven, but the Lord said that the “poor widow” which cast in just “two mites” cast more in, because “she of her want did cast in all that she had, even all her living” (Mark 12:41-44). We cannot pray for the work of the Lord and then, after toys,

A false balance is abomination to the LORD: but a just weight is his delight. Proverbs 11:1

Begin to BALANCE your life this Sunday

entertainment, and big spending, have nothing left for the work of the Lord. Paul helps us to understand the proper use of money; “Let him that stole steal no more: but rather let him labour, working with his hands the thing which is good, that he may have to give to him that needeth” (Ephesians 4:28). The good Samaritan helped the man in need by “bounding up his wounds, pouring in oil and wine, and seting him on his own beast, and brought him to an inn, and took care of him. And on the morrow when he departed, he took out two pence, and gave them to the host, and said unto him, Take care of him; and whatsoever thou spendest more, when I come again, I will repay thee” (Luke 10:30-35). We must resist the Devil with our money. Paul wrote that “a bishop must be blameless, as the steward of God; not self-willed, not soon angry, not given to wine, no striker, not given to filthy lucre, ill-gotten gain” (Titus 1:7). Timothy received the message that “the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows” (1 Timothy 6:10). Jesus said, “For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also” (Luke 12:34). Again, the Lord said “Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind” (Matthew 22:37). We are to remember to “Honour the LORD with thy substance, and with the firstfruits of all thine increase” (Proverbs 3:9).

Pastor Bernard Antonis, Jr. Gospel Light Baptist Church Cooper, Texas

God’s Garden: God looked around His garden And found an empty place. He then looked down upon the earth And saw your tired face. He put His arms around you And lifted you to rest. God’s garden must be beautiful He always takes the best. He saw the road was getting rough And the hills were hard to climb, So He closed your weary eyelids And whispered “Peace be thine.” It broke our hearts to lose you But you didn’t go alone, For part of us went with you The day God called you home.

Sharon L. Russell

Sharon L. Russell, born on September 12, 1943, and passed away on June 9, 2026, to Ruth and Charles Jenkins. Sharon was a loving, gentle, and kind woman whose life was marked by devotion to her family, quiet strength, and a deep and steady spirit of care for those around her.

Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Wise Funeral Home, Bonham, TX.

Sharon was a homemaker and housewife whose life was centered on creating a warm and welcoming home. She worked at a shirt factory in Glen Falls and Bonham, where she applied her diligence and dependable work ethic. She was also an accomplished seamstress whose hands were skilled in the art of sewing, and she took great pride in making blankets, quilts, crochet crafts, and doilies. Her work was never done for recognition, but rather from a sincere desire to care for others and to make life more beautiful for her family.

Family was always at the heart of Sharon’s life. She was family minded in every sense and gave generously of herself to those she loved. She raised four children on her own with little to no support, meeting each challenge with courage, dedication, and perseverance. Her life was a testament to what can be accomplished through hard work, faithfulness, and an unwavering commitment to one’s children. She carried her responsibilities with grace and strength, and her example left a lasting impression on all who knew her.

Sharon was known not only for her many talents, but also for her loving and sincere nature. She had a gentle way about her that made others feel comforted and cared for. Her kindness was evident in the way she treated people, and her love was shown through the many hours she spent baking, sewing, and creating things by hand for the people she held dear. She found joy in the simple and meaningful moments of life, and she shared that joy freely with her family.

Among the many memories her loved ones will cherish are the times spent attending music concerts together. Sharon loved to be with her family and to enjoy those special occasions that brought everyone together. There is no service scheduled at this time.

She is preceded in death by first husband, James Dumas, second husband, Donald Russell, daughter, Sheila Wood, grandson, Dakota Brown, sister, Shirley Stevenson, brothers, Robert Jenkins, Dave Jenkins, Ben Jenkins and Robert Jenkins.

Arthur Loyd Cunningham

Arthur Loyd Cunningham, 91, passed away peacefully at his home in Dial, Texas, on Wednesday, June 10, 2026, surrounded by his family. Throughout his life, Loyd’s love for God, his family, and the people around him was evident in everything he did.

Loyd was born on April 30, 1935, in Petty, Texas, to David and Janie Cunningham. Alongside his twin brother, Floyd, and sister, Pauline, he moved to Honey Grove as a child, where he grew up and formed lifelong friendships and memories. After graduating from Honey Grove High School and Paris Junior College, he began a career with UARCO Business Forms in Paris, where he faithfully worked for 37 years until his retirement.

Loyd also proudly served in the 49th Armored Division of the Texas Army National Guard for nine years, including a year of active duty during the Berlin Crisis. In 1957, Loyd met the love of his life, Jo Ann Wicks. They were married on February 6, 1960, at Dial Baptist Church and spent the next 66 years building a life centered on faith, family, and service. Together they raised two sons, Brent and John David.

The family made their home in Paris, where they were active members of Immanuel Baptist Church. Over the years, Loyd served as a Sunday school teacher, youth leader, and deacon. Few things brought him more joy than investing in young people. Whether leading youth groups, coaching sports, or simply offering encouragement, he loved helping others grow in both faith and life.

Loyd and Jo Ann later returned to Dial where Loyd continued serving faithfully at Dial Baptist Church as a teacher, deacon, and pianist. He also served on the Honey Grove ISD School Board and played a key role in helping bring the Honey Grove track and field facility to life.

Music was one of Loyd’s lifelong passions. A self-taught pianist, he filled his home and churches with the sound of hymns and gospel music. He loved sports of all kinds, especially baseball, and could recall details from games played decades apart with remarkable accuracy. He enjoyed math, puzzles, trivia, and learning new things, never losing his curiosity about the world around him.

One of his favorite places was on his lawn mower. He could spend hours outside enjoying God’s creation, singing, thinking, and mowing with the precision for which he was well known. He also cherished time at the beach, sitting with his feet in the sand and water, watching the ocean and appreciating its beauty, power, and constancy.

More than anything else, Loyd loved God, loved his family, and loved people. He truly never met a stranger. His friendships spanned generations, and he treasured every one of them. Those who knew Loyd experienced kindness, genuine interest, encouragement, and a reflection of Christ’s love. Because of his deep faith, he faced eternity with confidence and great assurance as he went to meet his Savior.

Loyd was preceded in death by his parents, David and Janie Cunningham; his sister, Pauline Hodges; his twin brother, Floyd Cunningham; and his great-grandson, Jonathan Cunningham II. He is survived by his beloved wife, Jo Ann; son Brent Cunningham and wife Debra of Dial, Texas; son John David Cunningham and wife Celeste of Pawleys Island, South Carolina; grandchildren Micah Cunningham of Longview, Texas, Amanda Hernandez of Houston, Texas, Jonathan Cunningham of Longview, Texas, and Colin Cunningham of Columbia, South Carolina; great-grandchildren Latham Ingram, Josie Cunningham, and soon-to-be Luka Hernandez; along with many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and countless friends whose lives were touched by his friendship and faith. A memorial service celebrating Loyd’s life will be held on Friday, June 26, at 6:30 p.m. at Westside Baptist Church, 912 Commerce Street West, Honey Grove, Texas. A reception with food and fellowship will follow.

Larry Don McFarlin

Larry Don McFarlin, known to many as Coach Mac, passed away on June 12, 2026, at his home after a valiant fight against colon cancer. He was born on December 5, 1958, in Bonham, Texas, to Jack and Juanita McFarlin, and throughout his life he remained deeply connected to the community and the values that shaped him from the beginning. Arrangements are under the direction of Wise Funeral Home, Bonham, TX.

Coach Mac devoted 47 years of his life to football, and his influence reached far beyond the field. He began his coaching career in Bonham, Texas, and went on to coach at Denison, Paris, Paris North Lamar, Lone Oak, Ratan, and Honey Grove. In every place he served, he brought passion, discipline, and heart to the young men and women he mentored. Football was not simply a profession to him. It was his life, his calling, and the avenue through which he touched countless lives. The children he coached were changed by his guidance, his encouragement, and his belief in their potential. Students often carried the life lessons

Coach Mac taught them on the field long after graduating.

He was admired not only for his coaching accomplishments but also for the way he lived his life with authenticity and strength. He never met a stranger and had a way of making everyone feel welcome. His genuine kindness and easy conversation left a lasting impression on friends, players, fellow coaches, and community members throughout Texas. He was loved by coaches and students across the state, and his name carried respect wherever the game of football was played.

Coach Mac was a true cowboy at heart, and that spirit was evident in the way he approached life. He was hardworking, proud, and deeply rooted in the values of loyalty, grit, and perseverance. He also found great joy in the world beyond coaching. He was a five-time Benny Binion Champion with the highest selling bull, an accomplishment that reflected both his dedication and his remarkable presence in the arena. Whether on the sideline, in the community, or among friends and family, he carried himself with the same steady confidence and sincerity that defined him throughout his life. Above all else, he loved spending time with his wife, friends, and family. Those who knew him best will remember the laughter, the stories, and the sense of belonging he created wherever he went. His life was marked by meaningful relationships, and he gave his time and heart freely to those he loved. His family and friends were the center of his world, and he treasured every moment shared with them.

Coach Mac was twice inducted into the Fannin County Hall of Fame, a fitting recognition of the extraordinary legacy he leaves behind. His achievements, while impressive, were only part of his story. His true legacy is found in the lives he shaped, the lessons he taught, and the example he set through courage, kindness, and commitment. He will be remembered as a man who gave everything he had to the game he loved and to the people fortunate enough to know him.

Coach started his career in his hometown of Bonham so it seemed fitting to honor his life under the lights at Warrior Stadium on Wednesday, June 17, 2026 at 7:30PM. The family received friends the night before on Tuesday, June 16, 2026 from 6pm to 8pm at Wise Funeral Home Chapel. Pallbearers were Sawyer Hunnicutt, Dadrian Stewart, Levi Beavers, Bill Parker, Colin Clark, and Cole Lackey. Pastor Dereck White officiated. He is preceded in death by his mother, Juanita McFarlin. Those left to carry on his legacy - the love of his life wife, Paula McFarlin, father, Jack McFarlin, brother, Randy McFarlin and wife Carolyn, daughter, Rae Lynn Hamby and husband Justin, son, James McFarlin and wife Megan, step- children, Michael Darden, Craig Darden and wife Sarah, Derek Darden and wife Samantha, Nathan Darden, grandchildren, Caden Hamby, Brooklynn Hamby, Adalynn Hamby, Blakely McFarlin, Landon Darden, Lily Darden, Paisley Darden, Katie Darden, Ava Darden, Haleigh Darden, William Darden, Wesley Darden, and many lifelong friends, coaches, and students. To the man that raised the bar all throughout his life, well done thy good and faithful servant.

Shots fired in Ladonia

Fannin County, TX Sheriff's Office

On Saturday 06/13/2026

there was a block party event in the City of Ladonia with hundreds of people in attendance. After the official event ended a significant number of people went from the party to the Texoma Housing Authority on Paris

St in Ladonia. While the crowd was gathered on Paris St an altercation broke out leading to a series of gunshots fired into crowded areas of the Texoma Housing Authority by multiple suspects at approximately 3:30 AM on Sunday 06/14/2026. The Fannin County Sheriff’s Office was in the area and responded quickly as the crowd was fleeing the area. No injuries were located initially but a victim was found later at a hospital out of the county with non-life-threatening injuries. Numerous vehicles had been shot and damaged. Approximately 40-50 rounds were fired from several

locations. The Sheriff’s Office has identified several suspects and made one arrest so far, with multiple additional arrests expected. We have seen several videos and social media posts from people that attended the event but have not yet cooperated with the investigation. We are requesting that anyone with photos, videos or any other evidence please provide that information to the Sheriff’s Office to aid in the investigation and arrest of those that put many innocent lives at risk that night. Please contact Fannin County Sheriff’s Office at 903-583-2143.

Game Warden Field Notes

The Fish Gave Them

Away — A Nueces County Game Warden responded to a call concerning undersized trout. Upon contact with the individuals, all were licensecompliant and when asked if they had caught anything all replied, “No, but we are trying real hard.” As the conversation continued, the warden questioned what the thumping from the ice chest was, at which time the individuals hung their head. When all were counted and measured, 12 undersize trout were located and appropriate charges are pending.

Foiled Scheme — Recently, Palo Pinto and Wise county Game Wardens, along with Federal Wardens went onto a ranch that had been suspected of being baited in years past. Upon entry, there were 15 hunters in the field. The area in which the hunters were hunting was a wheat field that had

been shredded. A careful examination of the field showed it to be baited. Two hundred twenty-three doves were seized, and a federal citation was issued to the landowner.

Texas Begins Enforcement of Commercial Automated Vehicle Requirements

(AUSTIN, Texas – June 2, 2026) – New rules of the road for commercial automated vehicles in Texas are now in effect. The Texas Department of Motor Vehicles (TxDMV) has begun enforcing the state’s automated vehicle authorization requirements with the launch of a public complaint process for reporting serious public safety concerns involving commercially operated automated vehicles.

The requirements were created under Senate Bill 2807, passed by the 89th Texas Legislature in 2025, establishing a statewide regulatory framework for the commercial operation of automated vehicles on Texas roads.

As of May 28, 2026, companies operating automated motor vehicles commercially in Texas must maintain an active authorization issued by TxDMV. Members of the public and law enforcement can verify whether a company is properly authorized and submit public safety complaints through the Automated Motor Vehicle Lookup page.

The department’s new complaint process allows the public to report concerns related to the safe operation of commercially operated automated vehicles. Information about the complaint process and the Automated Vehicles Regulatory Program is available at www.TxDMV.gov/ AVprogram. Under state law, TxDMV is responsible for issuing automated vehicle authorizations and administering enforcement related to authorization use compliance. The Texas Department of Public Safety and local law enforcement agencies retain authority for onroad safety enforcement and oversight of traffic law compliance.
