Joyce Buchanan followed with encouraging news of four individuals selected by the Patriot Scholarship Committee to receive $500.00 scholarships.

The Fannin County Republican Party and the Fannin County Republican Women are providing those scholarships.

District Judge Blake introduced Representative Reggie Smith to update all on recent action coming out of the 87th legislative session with a focus on redistricting. She noted that other speakers would be coming in the months ahead that will include Senator Campbell and Senator Hall. Senator Hall has been asked to focus on the power grid and expound on what happened there.

Representative Smith started by commenting on what a great privilege it was to represent the voters at the 87th Legislative Session and explained how he is serving on three committees which are: The General Investigating Committee, The Judiciary & Civil Jurisprudence Committee and the Public Health Committee.

Press Release - Our Community Matters Council is hosting a Juneteenth Celebration at Simpson Park in Bonham on Saturday, June 19 from 1-4 pm.

Everyone is welcome to join their friends and neighbors for an afternoon of food, fellowship, education, music, prayers and more. Community members are encouraged to bring lawn chairs or blankets as well as a food to share.

What is Juneteenth? Juneteenth is the oldest nationally celebrated commemoration of the ending of slavery in the United States.

President Abraham Lincoln issued the Emancipation Proclamation to free all enslaved persons on September 22, 1862 and it became effective on January 1, 1863. How-

ever, it was not until General Gordon Granger arrived in Galveston on June 19, 1865, that enslaved persons in Texas were freed.

The celebrations that fol-

lowed began a tradition that has lasted until the present day in Texas and has spread across the country.

According to Juneteenth. com, “Today Juneteenth commemorates African American freedom and emphasizes education and achievement. It is a day, a week, and in some areas a month marked with celebrations, guest speakers, picnics and family gatherings. It is a time for reflection and rejoicing. It is a time for assessment, self-improvement and for planning the future.”

Fannin County 9/13/16 Republican Women Continued from page 1 He spoke of how covid, the loss of a presidential election and the extreme “snovid” weather event affected the 87th Legislative Session and how effectively the state affairs committees in both the Senate and the House dealt with those issues. He stated that though he had been asked to speak on “redistricting”, because there would be a Special Session in October to address redistricting, (due to census numbers not being available till September) he would be speaking on other topics. Though he stated that he is not completely certain, he also strongly suspects that there will be another Special Session in August that will address election reform. But for tonight, he wanted to touch on what he considered worthy accomplishments beginning with pro-life. SB1 was passed that increases funding by 25% for alternative programs to abortions as was the heartbeat bill, SB8. SB8 says that as long as a heartbeat is detectable, a physician shall not perform an abortion in Texas. He encouraged prayer for a case in Mississippi that is going to be heard by the Supreme Court that would allow the heartbeat bill to survive in Texas. Regarding the Second Amendment, Reggie went on to explain Matt Schaefer’s HB 1927 that was passed and signed into law by Governor Abbott which allows lawabiding individuals 21 and over to lawfully open carry (in a holster) in Texas. He then touched on ERCOT Reform that was accomplished with the passing of SB2, SB3, HB16, HB17 and others that will ensure nothing like what happened earlier this year, will ever happen again.

He said Senator Hall will be expounding on that legislation and all it entails during his visit. He then went on to touch on accomplishments made on Education with the renewal of HB 3 from the 86th Legislation and the strong stand that was made against Critical Race Theory with the passing of HB 3979 and other bills passed to benefit Texas students. He also touched on HB 525 that strengthens Religious Freedom by ensuring that religious organizations and their activities are considered essential business at all times, as well as HB 1239 that prohibits governor disaster orders from closing places of

All in all, a thousand bills were passed during the 87th Legislature and the possibility of Special Sessions being held is still likely especially in the area of Election integrity. A Special Session can only be called by the Governor. After Representative Smith’s informative presentation, some time was given for questions and those with further questions were encouraged to stay after the meetings end or to contact Jerri Fisher or Melanie Grammar.

On Thursday before Memorial Day 624 American flags were placed on the graves of veterans buried at Oakwood Cemetery in Honey Grove.

The cemetery was beautiful, and many visitors during the Memorial Day week-end enjoyed the flags. This event is organized each year by Fre-

ida Moreland. Volunteers that helped with this event were Freida Moreland, Bill Moreland, Keith Moreland, Sandy Morrison, Deidra Jackson, Lynn Jones, Ann Bowman, Donna Trotman, Michael and Leeann Blair along with the Blair’s four grandchildren.

To be sure the countries in Europe that had been overcome by the German forces remembered. They will never forget because the liberties they had lost to the enemy were restored as a result. I, too, remember D-Day and the battles to give Europe freedom again. Let me explain.

I Remember D-Day

On the morning of June 6, 1944, I was awakened from a deep sleep in Stone, England by the constant roar of the engines of military aircraft on mission. Our crew was informed that the Normandy invasion was underway.

This was what General Eisenhower had been referring to for days called the Great Crusade. This day would be a day that would live in the hearts and minds of those soldiers during this time and we would carry it with us into the future and to the end of our lives.

Just this past week, I received my monthly bulletin from the Military Order of the Purple Heart Chapter 612, included were excerpts from this letter sent to troops amassed in Southern England prior to invasion. This letter reads, in part, as follows: “You are about to embark upon the Great Crusade, toward which we have strived for these many months. The eyes of the world are upon you.

The hopes and prayers of Liberty loving people everywhere march with you. In company with our brave, allies, and brothers-in-arms on the front, you will bring about the destruction of the German war machine, the elimination of Nazi tyranny over

With that being said, Di Hopkins went on to say, “the properties that are Bonham Lake and Bonham City properties would fall under the jurisdiction of the City of Bonham and so what we are wanting to do is make an amendment or changes to the official zoning map to make clear what those properties are, so it is very clear that they are under the jurisdiction of the City of Bonham.” Judge Moore asked for the public hearing notice and stated this is good and will outline every parcel so there is no question. He said this will also help with the Lake Ralph Hall zoning process to serve as an example of how to handle similar situations. Di Hopkins then explained what they are needing now is approval for a hearing on Tuesday, July 6, 2021. Commissioner Magness made a motion that a hearing be held Tuesday, July 6, 2021, at 8:50 a.m. and the motion was seconded by Commissioner Lane. Before the motion was voted on, a citizen of Bonham asked if that meant the City of Bonham would not have authority over the ETJ (extra territorial jurisdiction) around the city of Bonham? Judge Moore explained ETJ would fall under the County’s planning and zoning unless and until the city decides to take over that portion of land at which time the land would automatically go back to the city. Commissioner Lackey questioned whether Bonham Lake property was even zoned.

Judge Moore responded that their City Attorney felt like they had the authority over that area. Attorney Newt Cunningham was called upon to respond and he explained that he thinks it’s the restrictions that are contained in the 99-year leases on those properties. The City as the owner of the property has restrictions on what the property can be used for. Though it is not exactly zoning, at the same time it is. A vote was then taken, and the motion passed.

14. Discussion, consideration and action to accept renewal of the contract extension for one-year term with JBI for services on the Title IV-E Program and have the County Judge sign on behalf of the County: Fannin County Auditor Alicia Whipple explained how she investigated this and discovered there is not another company offering a better deal than JBI. The projection of the amount of recouping to benefit the county if approved would be roughly $56,000. After her explanation, a motion was made by Commissioner Self to accept the renewal, seconded by Commissioner Lane and passed.

15. Discussion consideration and action to approve Auditor monthly reports for May 2021: Commissioner Magness made a motion to approve reports, seconded by Commissioner Lackey and passed.

16. Discussion, consideration and action to certify Fannin County is in compli-

ance with Section 2054.5191

garding Cybersecurity Training for employees and officials and authorize County Judge to submit the certification on behalf of the County: Fannin County Network Administrator Dustin Morrow gave a report explaining why he believes it is necessary for all employees who will utilize the county’s computer system, to take the Cybersecurity Awareness Training. After some discussion, it was decided to act on the side of caution and require all the county employees to take the training. Commissioner Lane made a motion that the court certify Fannin County is in compliance with Section 2054.5191 of the Government Code regarding Cybersecurity Training for employees and officials and authorize the County Judge to submit the certification on behalf of the County as soon as they are all completed.

A motion was seconded by Commissioner Magness and passed.

17. Discussion, consideration and action to approve payment of bills: Motion was made, seconded and passed to pay the bills.

Regarding the weather, she knows the roads are in awful condition and requests everyone’s patience as they will be gotten to as soon as possible. She wished all a good week.

Commissioner Self echoed Commissioner Lane’s sentiments and thanked Daniel Harrison for a great presentation.

He said he and Commissioner Lane went through a search & rescue class with Troy Hudson in preparation for anyone getting lost in the county.

Commissioner Magness said a search & rescue class is needed in the Telephone area. He also detailed an incident where someone started heavy equipment that ran all weekend and said there will be steps taken to assure it doesn’t happen again.

He wanted it known that speed limit signs are going up on CR 2610.

Commissioner Lackey spoke about a class he took on talking to the media and jokingly advised Commissioner Lane to never bring up the negative as they will run wild with it. He also joked about everything being great and perfect in Precinct 4 after which he said he appreciated everyone coming out and

Judge Moore suggested Commissioner Magness invite the board members from the Bois d’Arc P& Z Board to the Lake Ralph Hall meeting to get their input. He also congratulated Alicia Whipple on completing a 12-week program of fundamental leadership skills. He announced that on Friday there will be a CAD (County Appraisal District) Public Hearing from 12:00 to 1:00 p.m. at the Appraisal District. He spoke of a visit with the Sheriff who had a heart attack recently and is currently recuperating at home.

He urged all who may feel ill to not be easily dismissed when told initially that nothing is found to be wrong. He ended on a note that it was mentioned in the paper that the Courthouse Opening Date has been moved to next year. He said the Commissioners Court determines that date and it is still set at October 5. He said the paper was not very clear on what that date is about but reiterated that the Commissioners Court will set the date as they get more information in the future. (For the record, the incorrect date mentioned by Judge Moore was reported by a different media source and not the Fannin County Leader Newspaper.)

Tuesday, June 8, 2021, County Judge Randy Moore called to order a Regular Meeting of the Fannin County Commissioners Court at 9:00 a.m. A quorum was established as all Commissioners and County Judge were present. The invocation was led by Pastor Dana Coker of the First United Methodist Church of Bonham. Pledges were led by Major James Manis, Retired.

4. Public Forum: A citizen of Fannin County who resides on CR 2980 spoke about the boat ramp signs for the new Bois d’Arc Lake that are located on the highway and how people who are not from the area and do not know that the lake is not yet open may be misled by them. These people come with their boats looking to gain access to the lake and end up trespassing on the lake.

He believes that a strip indicating the lake is closed should be placed on those signs to possibly deter these people from continuing in their efforts to get their boats in the water that is not yet safe to navigate.

5. Introductions: There were no introductions. Judge Moore decided to skip over the next few agenda items to address agenda item #10 as there were many attending today’s meeting because of their interest in Lake Ralph Hall 10. Discussion and presentation regarding Lake Ralph Hall: Mgr/Planner Daniel Harrison with Freese & Nichols gave a power point presentation beginning with his introducing himself and Planner Eleana Tuley (who was not present) who will be the main team members that will be working with the Lake Ralph Hall Committee members. His presentation included a schedule of progressive meetings and what would be happening during those meetings. For example, on 7/21 there will be a stakeholder interview for their input to obtain organization knowledge (Lake Zoning Commissioners, school district representatives, constables and people who may have special safety concerns regarding the lake.) 8/21 will be the first Public Open House to get information about what will be happening with land around the lake. He gave an explanation with visual examples of why regulations are needed in a project such as this. The first draft of Lake Zoning Regulations will be created after that time and added to their website along with a future land use map. These meetings will be considered the first phase of the Zoning Regulations for the land around the lake. To view all the dates and the proposed progressions for Lake Ralph Hall, the complete presentation will be available on the Fannin County website for a short period of time at www.co.fannin. tx.us. After his presentation, a discussion ensued with a concern brought up about RV Parks popping up around the area of the lake and the policing of the area around the lake. Anyone wanting to know more can contact their commissioner and/ or any of the board members including Commissioner Mag-

ness who will be chairing the Lake Ralph Hall P & Z Committee.

6. Discussion, consideration and action regarding the Fannin County Declaration of Disaster Proclamation for Covid-19: Judge Moore started by announcing that Governor Abbott just extended the Proclamation date for another thirty days. He then gave the current Covid numbers as of Monday the 7th at 2:30 p.m. as follows: there are 2,607 confirmed, 877 probable for a total of 3,484 total cases. Of those cases, 5 are active with one being in the prison; 3,439 recovered, 109 fatalities and a hospitalization rate of 2.05%. A motion was made, seconded and passed to extend the proclamation for another week.

7. Discussion, consideration and action regarding the Covid-19 Response and Continuity of Operations Plan for Fannin County: Judge Moore stated no changes were needed and a motion was made, seconded and passed to extend the Operations Plan till June 15, 2021.

8. Discussion, consideration and action regarding Covid-19 update and needs for supplies or personnel: Judge Moore asked Fannin County Purchasing Agent Michelle Case if there was anything to report. She replied there was not.

9. Discussion, consideration and action regarding Courthouse Restoration: Judge Moore gave an update list as follows: Exterior – Stone repairs around windows; Cornice and Shingles on roof North side (W, TH, FRI); Cleaning and patching stone along the base of building. Interior – Plaster install on 2nd level; Electrical rough on 3rd level; Framing ceilings in the courtroom, 3rd level; Fire Sprinkler installation on 2nd level; Ductwork in the Attic. Judge Moore asked if anyone had anything to add and after a quick mention of the inclement weather slowing work, by Commissioner Lackey, Judge Moore moved on to the next item as no action was needed.

11. Discussion and report of monies collected by the Justice of the Peace, Precinct 1 office for April 2021 and May 2021: Judge Moore reported from a list sent to him stating the amount collected in April was; $5,351.48 and in May; $5,702.50.

12. Discussion and report of monies collected by the Justice of the Peace, Precinct 2 office for May 2021: Judge Moore read the amount collected by JP Pct 2 to be $1,528.00.

13. Discussion, consideration and action regarding dual zoned property in the Bois d’Arc Lake 5,000 ft buffer and the setting of a public hearing on July 6, 2021, at 8:50 a.m.: Fannin County Development Director Di Hopkins explained that some time ago they came to the realization that a page of these double zoned properties within the 5,000 ft buffer zone is also under the jurisdiction of the City of Bonham. This is a no-cook version that is simple and always good. Our family calls this Nanner Puddin’!

Banana Pudding 1 (8 oz) cream cheese 1 (14 oz) can sweetened condensed milk 1 (15 oz) package Instant French Vanilla pudding mix-larger box 3 cups of whole milk 2 tsp. vanilla

1 (8 oz) tub whipped topping, thawed 1 (11 oz) box of vanilla wafers 3-5 bananas, peeled and sliced (depending on how many you prefer really) In a large bowl, beat the cream cheese with electric mixer until smooth. Add sweetened condensed milk, pudding mix, milk and vanilla. Stir in half of the whipped topping. Mix

well to combine and it will thicken. To layer, place 1/3 of the vanilla wafers in a trifle dish, large bowl or a 9x13 dish. Add layer of sliced bananas, then pour 1/3 of the pudding mixture on top (enough to cover bananas). Repeat with two more layers.

Top with remaining whipped topping. Cover with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least one to two hours before serving.

Bois d’Arc Lake Watershed Protection Plan Meeting Water is Life

The first Bois d’Arc Lake Watershed Protection Plan Meeting was held at the Bonham City Hall Wednesday 9, 2021 at 9:30 a.m. There was full house attendance of concerned local residents; elected officials (County Judge Moore, Commissioner Magness and Honey Grove Mayor Claude Caffee); TCEQ, Texas A&M Agrilife Extension Agent Cody Maxwell and members of the Texas State Soil and Water Conservation Board.

Watershed Manager for North Texas Municipal Water District David Cowan gave the first part of the power point presentation that spanned about two hours. He started by explaining that the purpose of the meeting was to encourage local participation in the WPP (Watershed Protection Plan). An informative leaflet available at the meeting gave the definition of a watershed as: “that land area that water flows through or under on its way to a stream, river, lake, ocean or other body of water.” The leaflet went on to say that the Bois d’Arc Lake

watershed, which lies in the Red River Basin, captures runoff from an area of about 326 square miles (2003,454 acres) in Fannin and Grayson counties. The Bois d’Arc Lake receives most of its flow from Bois d’Arc Creek, Honey Grove Creek and Lake Bonham. Routine monitoring from these sources has shown that water quality from these sources has been good overall, with bacteria levels in Bois d’Arc and Honey Grove Creeks being elevated at times.

Mr. Cowan said that it will be necessary to bring multiple stakeholders into a partnership to figure out the best way we can all agree to protect our water quality. He touched on sources of pollution, the Texas Integrated Report of Surface Water Quality that is prepared every two years, what is considered impaired waters and the acceptable standard of bacteria level for recreational use which is 126 cfu (colony forming units) per 100 mL. Currently, the waters of Bois d’Arc bacteria level is at 177 cfu but that level is expected to change once the lake is fully impounded. Mr. Cowan was questioned about an incident

Press Release - Many species of dragonflies and damselflies occur at Hagerman National Wildlife Refuge. In this program, Rick will discuss the species most likely to be found at the refuge, when the species are most likely to be encountered, and where he has seen the species on the refuge.

Rick grew up in Rockport, Texas. He has a Bachelor’s of Science in Range and

that was reported on in June of 2019 in the Fannin County Leader Newspaper, of a Sand and Gravel company being cited by the TCEQ for failure to maintain structural storm water controls that resulted in what a Lake Bonham resident believed at that time to have caused Lake Bonham water to change to a murky brown.

Mr. Cowan said that they have been monitoring the quality of the water from the lake in a lab through TCEQ and he could not answer whether there had been any discussion regarding a violation with that facility but that this was the correct venue to bring up this matter so that it can be discussed as it needs to be known what happened there and if it was one violation in 2019 or a series of violations. Though, he said, it is not the District’s role to be a regulatory authority as they are a provider of wholesale water and solid waste wastewater services. But they do have an obligation to take care of that water and through this process will discover what’s going on and maybe bring someone from that facility to talk about it. After more discussion about the color of

Lake Bonham’s water and turbidity levels (suspended solid particles), Mr. Cowan handed over the remaining segment of the presentation to the Program Specialist for Texas A&M AgriLife Texas Water Resources Institute, Ward Ling.

Mr. Ling went over again what a Watershed Protection Plan is and why one is needed.

He explained the nine essential elements of the plan and the six steps involved with the first being a partnership with local residents. He spoke of a successful WPP he helped develop in Seguin, Tx. Mr. Ling touched on the Lavaca River WPP as an example of a successful project. He expounded on the origins of pollutants such as pet waste, feral hogs, failing septic systems, dumping problems etc. and how those issues can be addressed.

He went over programs that exist that can be utilized, grant monies that can be applied for funding of solutions and educational workshops that will be available once a WPP is set up. He stressed the need for public participation for a WPP to succeed. Any concerned citizens interested in serving

Build The Dream Kickoff Celebration Press Release - The community is invited to the Build The Dream Kickoff Celebration hosted by the Fannin County Children’s Center on Thursday, June 24 from noon to 1 pm. The event will take place at the future home of the Children’s Center at the corner of Lee and Albert Broadfoot Streets in Bonham.

During the strategic planning process in 2016, the center’s board and staff identified the future need to secure a new, larger facility in order to keep up with the growing needs of our community. Over the next few years, a facility task force toured other CASA and CAC facilities, searched for available land or buildings and made several asks and offers.

In December 2019, Roy and Jan Reimer donated about 8 acres of land near the Bon-

ham elementary and high schools.

In 2020, MJMC Architects, PLLC was hired and the planning process was in full swing. The center also pur-

chased a small adjacent property and Hammett Excavation graciously donated their services to tear down and remove an old, condemned house on that lot.

The center is now ready to kickoff the campaign to build the new facility. Legend Bank, TXB and McCraw Oil will generously be providing lunch at the kickoff event.

Leaders of the Children’s Center and community will begin speaking at about 12:15 pm. They have several exciting announcements planned.

Community members are encouraged to carpool when they can, as nearby parking space will be limited.

Temporary Ladonia Fossil Park to Open • June 18

Original Fossil Park Closing for Start of Lake Ralph Hall Construction

June 9, 2021 – Lewisville, TX -- As part of upcoming construction of Lake Ralph Hall near Ladonia, Upper Trinity Regional Water District (UTRWD) is building a temporary fossil park which will include a parking lot and access point to the North Sulphur River for fossil hunters. Construction of this temporary fossil park has begun and is scheduled to open on June 18, 2021. It will be located on the north side of the North Sulphur channel river east side of FM 2990.

“The District recognizes the importance of the Ladonia Fossil Park to the local community and visitors alike,” said Larry N. Patterson, Executive Director of Upper Trinity. “Both the District and City of Ladonia are working to select another, permanent location downstream of the reservoir for the Ladonia Fossil Park, where fossil hunters can continue safe and easy access to the river bottom after the new reservoir is built.”

The current Ladonia Fossil Park on SH 34 will close on June 18, 2021, in advance of the start of the new Hwy 34 bridge construction. The current park is in the reservoir footprint and will be inundated when the reservoir fills.

Construction notifications will be posted in advance of its closure and signs will be installed to direct fossil hunters to the new, temporary park.

Balaam taught Balak how to cause the people of Israel to sin. They sinned by eating food offered to idols and by taking part in sexual sins. You also have some who follow the teaching of the Nicolaitans. So, change your hearts and lives! If you do not, I will come to you quickly and fight against them with the sword that comes out of my mouth. Everyone who has ears should listen to what the Spirit says to the churches! I will give the hidden manna to everyone who wins the victory. I will also give him a white stone with a new name written on it. No one knows this new name except the one who receives it. “ The third in a series of letters Jesus wrote in the final book of the Bible, Revelation, Jesus addressed HIS BODY in Pergamum that they might heed His Word and repent – that they might change the direction they were going. While holding onto the TRUTH on which they were built, salvation through JESUS CHRIST alone, they had been invaded by the enemy; their message had been diluted and their teaching confused.

False teachers in the church were spreading the lies of satan as components of The True Gospel. If one just reads this passage without having knowledge of the actors to whom Jesus referred, we might skip over these verses and miss Jesus’ message to the church, then and now. Because of our lack of historical understanding of the doctrine of Balaam and the Nicolaitans, we could not understand why Jesus hated their doctrine. We would, in fact, miss His message to us today.

Jesus felt it was so important to draw attention to those that had invaded this group of believers that He pinpointed those who were causing the church to falter, to become ineffective in the work they had been given to do.

These false teachers were holding to the way of Balaam (2 Peter 2:14); they were teaching a doctrine to gain and sustain personal esteem and position, both in money and power.

Balaam was an Old Testament Prophet, who knew that YHWH (whom we call GOD) is the only true God. He was familiar with His ways and His goals for Israel. Balaam knew God’s voice but wanted to run from it when he found himself in a situation that could bring him personal gain if he were to align himself with Israel’s enemy, the King of Moab who worshipped other gods and engaged in the perversion of God’s standards. In other words, Balaam was a traitor. (Numbers 22-24) The magnetic pull of material wealth and advancement was so strong that Balaam thought he could compromise God’s instruction by using the gift of prophecy God gave him for personal gain.

Equally confusing were a group of leaders in the church that held the doctrine of the Nicolaitans (Revelation 2:6, 15).

There is more than one school of thought on who these disciples were and the doctrine they embraced. The names Balaam and Nicolas are connected in their meaning in Hebrew.

Balaam means Confuser, a destroyer of the People, and Nicolas means Victor over the people. I tend to believe after some research that followers of Nicolas, a convert to Judaism (Acts 6:5) had reinforced religious works such as the eating of certain foods and the observance of certain days and seasons as a prerequisite to righteousness. They had added to the requirements for salvation through Jesus Christ alone. They had again set up a religious hierarchy; they had re-hung the curtain into the holy of holies that was torn in half at Jesus death. (Matthew 27:51, Mark 15:38) Therefore, the message of Salvation in Jesus Christ, the Peace and Truth of His eternal life and answer for all mankind had been compromised. This body of believers were at war in the church. The Peace that Jesus left, and the Church’s mission to carry out His Great Commission, was quickly becoming fruitless. They were becoming unproductive, and the people had no Spiritual food to sustain them. Jesus said, “Change your hearts, change your lives.” To those who will heed His warning, He will establish.

He will feed them with “manna,” Spiritual food from heaven.

THE WAR WAS WON BY JESUS CHRIST, BUT THE BATTLE FOR THE SOUL OF THE CHURCH IS NOT OVER. It is true that we are amid a world where satan has set up his throne. But Jesus Himself said we could overcome in His Truth and the Power of the Holy Spirit. As the church, the Body of Jesus Christ on this earth, battles for its own existence, the souls of men, women, children, and families are being lost for eternity. We as the Body of Jesus Christ have been given everything we need pertaining to Life and Godliness by His Power and His Spirit that indwells us and gives us life. 2 Peter 1:3. We have all the weapons needed for Battle (Ephesians 6:10-16), and we have a Lord that is returning soon. We rejoice in that truth.

Now is the time to embrace that TRUTH and overcome the lies of satan that has invaded the Body of Believers. JESUS SAID, “MY FOOD IS TO DO THE WILL OF HIM WHO SENT ME AND TO FINISH HIS WORK…. LISTEN TO WHAT I AM TELLING YOU. OPEN YOUR EYES AND LOOK AT THE FIELDS THAT ARE READY FOR HARVEST…THE REAPER IS ALREADY RECEIVING PAY AND GATHERING FOR ETERNAL LIFE……I SENT YOU TO REAP.” John 4:34-38. FEED MY SHEEP! DODD CITY -- Recent graduation ceremonies marked the conclusion of the 2020-21 school year.

What started with masking requirements and other COVID-19 related restrictions in Texas ended with a return to normalcy.

Two weeks to the day after the graduation ceremony at Dodd City, something that has been common there during the last several months -- during this most unusual school year everywhere -- occurred: Members of the 2021 Class 1A State champion Dodd City Lady Celebration.

Said junior Tori Dotson: “To do this two times in three months -- it shows that a lot of us can play multiple sports.”

Dotson earned the most valuable player award for her efforts in the championship game win: three RBIs, a home run and closing the game in the circle.

“It’s really been amazing,” said senior Journie Hilliard, whose walk-off semifinals hit on June 1 advanced the Lady Hornets the next day to their first softball championship appearance.

“It’s practically been the same group of girls in every sport,” said Hilliard. “We have so much love for each other and chemistry.

“It’s been an amazing way to end my high school career.”

By Rich Hilliard Dodd City junior Tori Dotson earned a roster spot on the Texas Girls Coaches Association Class 1A-2A-3A-4A red all-star team for 2021.

Dotson, who garnered the most valuable player award for her efforts at the plate and in the circle during the Lady Hornets’ 8-4 win over defending champion D’Hanis on June 2 in the 1A title game, also joined several teammates on TGCA’s 1A all-state tournament team.

Dodd City placed six players on the 1A Softball State All-Tournament Team for 2021, as selected by the TGCA: shortstop, Dotson; pitcher, Lindsey Mauppin, sophomore; first baseman, Journie Hilliard, senior; second baseman, Dulaney Chapman, senior; outfield, Dani Baccus, senior; and outfield, Sonora Wild, junior.

Funeral services for Peggy Lavelle Simer, 86, of Bonham, were held at 3:00 PM Friday, June 4, 2021 in Wise Funeral Home Chapel. Pastor Cary Kinnaird officiated. A private burial will be held in Duplex Cemetery.

Peggy passed away Wednesday morning, June 2, 2021 at her residence surrounded by her family.

Peggy was born July 13, 1934 in Bonham, Texas, the daughter of Ellis L. Jenkins and Bertha Elizabeth Wilson Jenkins. She met and married Billy Joe Simer, the love of her life, on March 28, 1952 in Bonham, Texas. Her favorite job of all time was raising her six children while traveling the world with Billy as he served in the US Air Force and US Army. After his retirement, they returned to Fannin County and built the family home where Peggy lived until her passing. She was very crafty and enjoyed quilting, needlepoint, crocheting, coloring, and baking.

She also enjoyed putting puzzles together with Billy. Peggy was a Tupperware distributor and attended beauty school. She loved butterflies, George Strait and the song, “Wings of a Snow White Dove” which Billy often sang to her. Peggy loved to square dance and she and Billy danced in many competitions.

A member of Corinth Baptist Church, Peggy was strong in her faith with our Lord and Savior.

She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend. She will

be missed dearly. Peggy was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years on Oct. 28, 2015 and her parents.

Left to cherish her memories are her three sons, Jerry Simer of Topanga, CA, Joey Simer of Ravenna, TX, and James Simer and wife, Shamsha of Euless, TX; three daughters, Belinda Duke and husband, Russel of Ravenna, TX, Barbara Via and husband, Bill of Denison, TX and Bridget Kaylor of Wichita Falls, TX; adopted daughter, Christie Ragsdale and husband, Billy of Iowa Park, TX; 10 grandchildren, Annabelle, Henry, Tiffany, Aiman, Soni, Sherjeel, Nianaya, Shelby, Janet and Breanne; nine great grandchildren, extended family and friends.

Pallbearers were Jaime Murphey, Jerry Murphey, Carl Kaylor, Chandon Priddy, Chris Rivas and Billy Ragsdale.

on Tuesday, June 8, 2021, at his home in Ravenna, TX. Ronnie loved ranching and was a self-employed ranch hand.

He enjoyed spending time with friends and his rodeo families in Fannin County and elsewhere, especially with Marty and Cindy and his Kuecklehan rodeo family.

He handled the Vaqueros Rodeo’s for Kuecklehan’s.

He is survived by sister, Rebecca Dianne Snitchler and husband Steve of Bakersfield, CA; nephew, Dr. Lt. Commander Navy Christopher Snitchler and wife Kana and son Liam; nephew, Patrick Snitchler and nephew, Collin Snitchler.

Ronnie is preceded in death by his parents, and stepfather, Jimmy Hodges.
