DISCUSSION ITEMS: 17. Presentation of Life Saving Award for two deputies from the Fannin County Sheriff’s Office - Sheriff’s Office. Jesse McCrary and Max Wooddell, were presented Life Saving Awards for their response to a major head-on collision resulting in multiple casualties. Fannin County
Sheriff reported “On March 4th, 2026, at approximately 2.28 hours, the deputies responded to a major head-on collision involving two semitrucks at the intersection of FM 1752 and FM1753. Upon arrival, they encountered multiple casualties with only one ambulance and limited fire personnel on scene. Noticing a casualty lying in the ditch without medical assistance, Deputies McCrary and Woodell took immediate action. They applied a tourniquet to the driver’s leg. And adding a splint to the compound fracture, all while maintaining a calm demeanor to comfort the individual. Law enforcement is often a thankless job where exceptional actions are simply expected. However, we believe that commendable work should be recognized, even if only through a formal written acknowledgement and a public acknowledgement here today.”
18. Discussion regarding Election Updates - County Clerk. Fannin County Clerk Jenny Garner reported “We currently have local elections that will be going on at various different schools and cities. Those elections will begin early voting next week, with their election day falling on Saturday, May the 2nd. We also are in the process right now of planning for the runoff elections. The, sites for those will be presented to you next… Commissioners Court. Right now, we’re anticipating that all of the locations will be the same for the Republican Party. The Democratic Party is going to opt to remove a couple of locations and narrow their locations down to approximately 4. So we’ll have all of those updates for you as well. The dates for the early voting for the runoff election will be May 18th through the 22nd. There will be no weekend voting of any kind for the runoff election, so no voting on Saturday or Sunday at all. The actual election takes place on May 26th. Hours for all of those dates are 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.” DISCUSSION and POSSIBLE ACTION

Commissioners Court voted 4-1 to approve a Resolution to participate in the Tax Increment Financing Reinvestment Zone #3., the City of Bonham Participation Agreement. Commissioner Fogelberg cast the opposing vote. The reason for the Tax Increment Financing Reinvestment Zone or (TIRZ) according to Chris Banham, senior consultant with Catalyst Commercial “The zone is designated, and within this zone, essentially the tax revenue from that zone is frozen and is the base revenue, and any new revenue within that zone that is, you know, participated into this fund, is reinvested into the zone to pay for development projects or to reimburse developers for improvements. So, it’s not an additional tax, it’s just redirecting where some of these monies go.”

Tamie Lee Latham
Tamie Lee Latham, a loving and generous woman whose life was defined by service, family, and a steady spirit of kindness, was born on April 3, 1968, in Waterloo, Iowa, and passed away on April 14, 2026, in Bonham, Texas. Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Wise Funeral Home, Bonham, TX.
Tamie lived a life that left a lasting impression on everyone who knew her. She earned a nursing degree and went on to build a remarkable career as a nurse, serving for more than 30 years before retiring. Throughout her three decades in nursing, she received many recognition awards, a reflection of the compassion, dedication, and professionalism she brought to her work each day.
Beyond her career, Tamie was known as a simple country woman who loved her cows, her farm, and the land she called home. She found joy in the quiet, steady beauty of rural life and took pride in the life she built. She was especially proud to be a mama and Nana, and she retired early so she could spend more time enjoying her grandchildren and the farm she loved so deeply. Family was at the center of everything she did, and she made sure the people she loved always felt that devotion.
Tamie shared 21 years of marriage with Steven Latham, and from the moment she met him, she knew she would marry him. God’s Garden: God looked around His garden And found an empty place. He then looked down upon the earth And saw your tired face. He put His arms around you And lifted you to rest. God’s garden must be beautiful He always takes the best. He saw the road was getting rough And the hills were hard to climb, So He closed your weary eyelids And whispered “Peace be thine.” It broke our hearts to lose you But you didn’t go alone, For part of us went with you The day God called you home.

Jherson Manuel-Ramos sentenced for Online Solicitation of a Minor and Forgery
Jherson Manuel-Ramos, 27, of Bonham, pled guilty to 7 years in the Texas Department of Criminal Justice Institutional Division (TDCJ) for Online Solicitation of a Minor and Forgery of Government Document. The sentence was part of a plea agreement reached by the Criminal District Attorney’s Office where the Defendant will be convicted as a felon, be required to register as a sex offender for life, and at the completion of his confinement in prison, will be deported from the United States with a lifetime ban. This criminal will never be able to legally enter the country again. In 2024, Bonham ISD Police, led by Chief Hunter Templeton, conducted an investigation regarding inappropriate communication possibly occurring between a teacher directed to at least one student within the ISD through various social media accounts. After thorough review and collection of evidence, Chief Templeton determined that a Bonham ISD teacher, Manuel-Ramos, sent inappropriate messages to a student in an attempt to get them to engage in illicit sexual activity. Bonham ISD was able to obtain those messages and spoke to and counseled the student. Ultimately it was determined that no inappro-
priate in-person behavior occurred with the student, despite ManuelRamos’s encouragement.
A warrant was issued for Online Solicitation after a Fannin County Grand Jury indicted Manuel-Ramos for same. In their search to apprehend the Defendant, Bonham ISD Police with the assistance of the Texas Department of Public Safety, was able to locate him at a new place of employment. After his arrest at that location, law enforcement spoke with the owner and discovered that the defendant had forged a new ID and social security card, and had used those documents to illegally complete employment and tax documents. Investigators also uncovered that prior to his arrest, the Defendant had attempted to apply to another school district for employment.
“We commend the Bonham ISD Police Department on their hard work and dedication on this case. Their willingness to work tirelessly for the safety of the students of Bonham is greatly appreciated”, First Assistant Criminal District Attorney Nathan Young commented. “Criminals who would try to use our school system as a means to get access to children and further abuse or hurt them will be prosecuted severely”, said Assistant Criminal District Attorney Vanessa Vice. “The bravery of the student to come forward and expose this teacher and be willing to pursue the case is outstanding”, Vice added. We thank all the law enforcement partners that assisted in the prosecution of this case to ensure our students are protected and this type of behavior does not happen again.

Portland
Marker Text: The earliest known settler in the Portland community was Jesse Green London (1843-1875), a native of Missouri and a Confederate veteran who brought his family here in 1873. Other early settlers included members of the Tefteller, Cline, Bell, Henderson, Goin, and Biggerstaff families.
The small farming community boasted several business establishments, including a blacksmith shop and a wood shop by the late 1880s. The six-grade Portland School opened in 1879 and met in a one-room log building until the school district was consolidated with two other area schools in 1898. The grocery store served as a residence and post office as well. Founded at the end of the 19th century, the Portland Congregational Methodist Church worshiped in the old log schoolhouse until 1909 when a sanctuary was built at this site. The opportunity for Portland to grow and prosper was denied when the rail line was laid south of the settlement. Although a few homes and this church building are all that remain of the community, the settlers left a rich heritage for their descendants, many of whom still live in the area.

Pinto County in 1877, and returned to Bonham in 1887. She graduated from a higher education institution, possibly the Sam Houston Normal Institute (now Sam Houston State University).
Lelia became a Methodist missionary and worked in Mexico for 43 years, from 1887 to 1930. At some point she returned to the U.S. and needed a passport to travel back into Mexico in 1918.
Lelia wrote in a letter to the newspaper, the Bonham Daily Favorite, on April 12, 1918, that “just one month has elapsed since Uncle Sam, at the earnest request of the
Chaplain of the U.S. Senate, granted me a passport to Mexico, the first American woman, I am told, who has been thus favored.” The passport laws of the U.S. were undergoing changes during WWI.
During her missionary work, Lelia established the Colegio Roberts school in Saltillo, Coahuila, Mexico. The school taught music, business, English, religion, and more. Her sister, Martha, was the English teacher and secretary for the school. The two women sent letters to Bonham newspapers about their lives in Mexico and other international travels. They completed missionary work
in Mexico during the Mexican Revolution (1910-1920), a time of political upheaval and death.
Lelia returned to Bonham upon her retirement and remained active with the First Methodist Church until she broke her hip around the year 1940. She died on June 16, 1950. Lelia is buried at Willow Wild Cemetery in plot H 243. Her sister Martha is also buried here.

Fannin County Deputy Wounded In
Ambush Attack, Suspect Identified
By Drew Mowrer, Aus-
tin
Hedgcoth and KXII
Staff- A suspect was found dead of a self-inflicted gunshot wound after he allegedly opened fire on a Fannin County deputy in a suspected ambush attack on Thursday. In a public release posted on Friday, the Fannin County Sheriff’s Office identified the suspect as 35-year-old Cory Goode, adding that he has an extensive criminal history.
Fannin County Sheriff Cody Shook says that at around 3:35 p.m. on Thurs-
day, multiple deputies went out to a call requesting a law enforcement response in the 500 block of County Road 5012, near Leonard, when they were met with gunfire. The suspect fired 14 rounds at the first arriving deputy from a concealed location, using a scoped rifle in a “clear intentional act to commit a murder,” according to the Fannin County Sheriff’s Office.
According to Shook, the suspect left his concealed spot and committed suicide with his own weapon once he lost track of the deputy.
The deputy suffered injuries from shrapnel and shattered windows after his car was struck multiple times in the windshield and the headrest with rifle rounds.
He was not wounded by gunfire but suffered injuries from the shrapnel and shattered windows.
Shook says the deputy was treated at a local hospital and later released.
Fannin officials say they will not be releasing the deputy’s name at this time.
This is a developing story, stay with KXII 12 News for updates as we learn more.

Focus On God’s Promises
Calvary Baptist Church Bonham, Texas
What are you really focusing on today? I challenge you set your heart on the eternal, unseen things that truly matter, rather than being distracted by the material and visible concerns of this world. By keeping our focus on God’s promises and the hope that transcends earthly possessions, we find lasting peace and purpose. We tend to focus on what is
“seen” like the unpaid bills, the marriage that is on the rocks, or the car that needs repairs. In 2 Corinthians 4:18 we are told to not focus on “things which are seen,” but instead keep our focus on the “things which are not seen.” Why?
Because the things which are seen are “temporary,” while the things which are not seen are “eternal.”
We are called to walk by faith, not by sight. (2 Corinthians 5:7). To walk by faith means to focus
upon things that are unseen such as spiritual realities such as the peace, hope, and the love that God bestows upon us – just to mention a few. I challenge you to “lift your eyes to the hills where your help comes from.” (Psalm 121:1-2). May you “set your heart on things above” (Colossians 3:1) and refuse to focus on the things of this world.
For His Glory, Lyn and Lissa
Faith Is the Answer
Hello everyone! This week’s devotion comes from several passages. Hebrews 11:1 reminds us, “Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.”
As I’ve said before, the main problem with our nation today is that we have lost our faith in God and our dependency upon Him. 2 Chronicles 7:14 reminds us,
this classic gospel song that was written by Robert L. Sande and Samuel T. Scott. This song and the poem that goes with it are a perfect companion to these passages.
“Prayer is the key to Heaven, but faith unlocks the door. Words are so easily spoken; prayer without faith is like a boat without an oar. Have faith when you speak to the Master; that’s all He asks you for. Prayer is the key to Heaven, but faith unlocks the door.”

“If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.” This should serve as a reminder to us that the Lord, and He alone, can give us the true solution for these uncertain circumstances that we face in this day and age.
This is the only true solution. Hebrews 4:16 tells us, “Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.” The lesson that we can take from this verse is that we should never be ashamed to bring our burdens before the Lord and ask Him to help us through whatever we face in this life. Jesus warns us about this in Luke 9:26 by saying, “For whosoever shall be ashamed of me and of my words, of him shall the Son of man be ashamed, when he shall come in his own glory, and in his Father’s, and of the holy angels.” We, as a nation, must place our focus back on the Lord where it should be. Prayer and faith in Him are key factors in seeking the solutions for the things that we face. Once again I am reminded of
“Have you ever prayed for something big or small? How long did you have to wait, or did the answer ever come at all? Words are mere expressions of thought, and nothing more, but believing is what really counts; for faith unlocks the door.”

The fear of terrible things is natural. We should NOT be scared of things that are good and right. There are many things that Christians should not be afraid of. Christians should NOT be afraid of the Bible. We are told to “Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth” (2 Timothy 2:15). We are also told that “All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness” (2 Timothy 3:16). We find that the Bereans were “more noble than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness of mind, and searched the scriptures daily” (Acts 17:11). Peter tells us
by Wil Pounds
Christians should NOT be afraid of the church building or the worship service. Jesus said that we are to “seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness” (Matthew 6:33). We find that “upon the first day of the week, when the disciples came together to break bread, Paul preached unto them” (Acts 20:7). We are told to “consider one another to provoke unto love and to good works: Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is” (Hebrews 10:24-25). We are told to “Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord” (Colossians 3:16).
Christians should NOT be afraid of living for Christ and God. Jesus said, “I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly” (John 10:10). Paul reminds us of “Christ, who is our life” (Colossians 3:4). Many Christians are afraid of missing out, but we are told “Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world” (1 John 2:15). And that “whosoever therefore will be a friend of the world is the enemy of God” (James 4:4). Paul states that “I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me” (Galatians 2:20). Let us not be afraid of the Bible, God’s word. Let us not be afraid to worship God. Let us not be afraid to live for God.
What is God like?
This is not a child’s question.
There is nothing and no one with whom we can compare Him. He is in a unique category, and we can know Him only as He has chosen to reveal Himself. The psalmists were always calling men to praise the name of Yahweh. “Praise the LORD” is repeated in the Psalms. The LORD God is an infinite person. We can come to know Him only as He has chosen to reveal Himself in nature and in His own Word. “The heavens are telling of the glory of God; and their expanse declaring the work of His hands” (Psalm 19:1). God has chosen to reveal Himself in His creation (Col. 1:16-17; John 1:3; Rev. 4:11; Rom. 2:14-15). The Creator did not leave Himself without a witness to His grace and mercy. He reveals Himself to the world by His common grace (Acts 14:17; 17:24-29).
God has revealed Himself in His personal name. In Exodus 3:14 He revealed Himself to Moses at the burning bush as “I AM WHO I AM.” “I AM” is the LORD, “the God of you fathers, the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob” (v.16).
This is the “four letter” name of God, called the Tetragrammaton. It has four consonants commonly spelled YHWH, YHVH or JHVH. The vowels are supplied and hence the spelling “Yahweh.” Several English translations of the Bible use the word LORD in all capital letters to signify Yahweh. Others use the name “Jehovah.” All of these are attempts to communicate the unpronounceable Name. The meaning can be “I AM,” or “I will be,” from the verb
HAYAH, “to be.” It can also correctly be used with other vowels and translated, “He who causes to be,” or “He who brings into existence.” The simplest meaning is “I am who I am,” or “I will be who I will be.”
As a divine person, He has revealed Himself and communicates His person to His creation made in His image. He has revealed Himself as three persons in one – The Father, The Son, and The Holy Spirit. There are not three Gods. He is One God in three persons. He can be known, and He wants us to have fellowship with Him.
This great personal name Jehovah, or LORD, reveals to us that He is eternal. He is the great “I AM.” He is God eternal, everlasting, without beginning and without end. Hebrew scholars tell us the name contains each tense of the verb “to be.” You could translate “I was,” “I shall always be,” and “I shall always continue to be.” He is the eternal I AM, the same yesterday, today, and forever. He is always the same in His eternal being, so we can depend upon Him to be consistent.
Not only is He eternal, He is also unchangeable. He is immutable. What He was to Moses, Abraham, Isaac, David, etc., He will always be to us. He does not evolve, as if an evolutionary religious hocus pocus created Him. He acts with self-dependence. He answers to no one.
“We love, because He first loved us” (1 John 4:19). He is the One we worship and praise. “Who is a God like you, who pardons sins and forgives the transgressions of the remnant of His inheritance?” (Micah 7:18) Yes, He is the God of salvation, and the God of grace. The God who reveals Himself in Jesus Christ will always be like Jesus Christ and never change His eternal attributes (Heb. 1:1-3). In a confrontation with the Pharisees Jesus declared, “Your father Abraham rejoiced to see My day, and he saw it and was glad.” So the Jews said to Him, “You are not yet fifty years old, and have You seen Abraham?” Jesus said to them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, before Abraham was born, I am” (John 8:56-58). He is “our great God and Savior, Christ Jesus who gave Himself for us that He might redeem us from every lawless deed and purity of Himself a people for His own possession, zealous for good deeds” (Titus 2:13-14).
“To Him who sits on the throne, and to the Lamb, be blessing and honor and glory and dominion forever and forever” (Rev. 5:13). Wil is a graduate of William Carey University, B. A.; New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary, Th. M.; and Azusa Pacific University, M. A. He has pastored in Panama, Ecuador and the U. S, and served for over 20 years as missionary in Ecuador and Honduras.
He is the Self-determining One, absolute, independent in harmony with Himself throughout eternity. He is today what He will be tomorrow. He has no needs and therefore not dependent upon anyone or anything in His creation. He does not need anyone to defend Him, love Him, or support Him. He is the only All Selfsufficient One.

Loving Kaylee's Decision: Trenton softball shortstop to continue career w/Clarendon
By Rich Hilliard
TRENTON -- Kaylee
Loving initially admitted
why she chose where she did to continue her softball career beyond high school
Kaylee is one of the best individuals to be around with a heart of gold. No one but her brother can make any bones otherwise.
"During the three years I coached her, she was the consummate teammate," he said. "I'm excited. You deserve this. You've put in tremendous work."
By Rich Hilliard
via three words: "Full ride scholarship." The Trenton senior celebrated her decision to play softball for Clarendon College in Pampa, Texas, on April 13 with a signing day ceremony in the Trenton High School cafetorium with family, friends and Trenton coaches and administrators present. "It felt like home [at Clarendon] and I loved the coaches and my teammates," said Loving who will play in the outfield and middle infield for the Bulldogs.
Jeremy Strickland, Trenton superintendent of schools, served as Trenton's softball manager during those first three seasons for Loving.
Each year at Trenton, Loving has received escalating all-district awards: District 15-2A second-team infielder, freshman year; 15-2A firstteam infield, sophomore year; 11-2A Defensive Most Valuable Player, junior year.
"It's a blessing to see one of our own sign to further her academic and athletic careers," said Strickland.
"Today, we are here to witness Kaylee's.
"It's a special day for her and her parents," he said. "I think all here would agree
"You are a joy to coach," said Ally Murphy, first-year Trenton softball manager and previous assistant.
"I thank you for your hard work for four years," said Murphy. "You give it all you got.
"I wish you nothing but the best."
"The coaches here," said Loving, "have pushed me as an athlete to become who I am."
