NTMWD Presents Adopted Shoreline Management Plan To Fannin County Plan for Bois d’Arc Lake balances water supply and environmental protection with recreational uses
WYLIE, TX – Nov. 17, 2020: The North Texas Municipal Water District (NTMWD) presented the adopted Shoreline Management Plan (SMP) for
Bois d’Arc Lake to the Fannin County Commissioners Court today. The NTMWD Board of Directors approved the plan at its October 2020 meeting. The SMP
07/02/19 protection of the future reservoir
will guide use of the shoreline up to the 541 ft. elevation, which is owned by NTMWD and includes the 100-year flood level. The plan is designed to balance
as a source of drinking water and wildlife habitat with safe recreational uses and sustainability. “In addition to being a criti-
cal new water source for North Texas, Bois d’Arc Lake will have a major economic impact on Fannin County,” said Rodney Rhoades, interim NTMWD
from everyone at the
Utter Family Dealerships
executive director. “Much work has gone into striking the right balance to protect the future lake and shoreline while providing economic and recreational opportunities,” Rhoades added. In addition to protecting the lake as a key water source and recreation amenity, the SMP will: • Offer a shared vision for the lake and its proper use; • Create shoreline classifications to help NTMWD properly consider and balance different factors affecting the lake and shoreline; • Provide direction for private property owners on approved uses of the shoreline; and, • Promote appropriate and safe recreational uses of the lake. NTMWD will manage uses allowed on the shoreline through shoreline use agreements with property owners. Activities that may be authorized include boat docks, fishing piers and placement of recreational facilities on the adjacent shoreline, such as picnic tables, patios, BBQ pits and more. Conditions will be verified through a site visit as part of the approval process for shoreline use agreements. Fees for shoreline use agreements are also included in the plan. District staff will soon begin developing the processes required for obtaining shoreline use agreements. Applications will not be accepted until this process is complete and the NTMWD Board approves the accepting of applications. NTMWD has posted the approved SMP on the Bois d’Arc Lake website (https:// boisdarclake.org/construction/ bois-darc-lake-shoreline-management-plan).
