Press Release - My son was diagnosed with Diabetes Type 1 in 2003. During the year 2015 he blacked out and died in a fiery car wreck. This has been heavy on my mind, was there something that I could have done to prevent that from happening? I came up with many scenarios, but there was really nothing I could have done to prevent my son from dying.

Bonham City Council: Tax Exemptions, Housing, Nuisance Solutions, Etc.

Mark Kinnaird led the invocation.

Mayor Pro Tem H L Compton began by citing quorum though Mayor Roy Floyd, Councilman Tim LaVergne and Councilman Wayne Moore were not in attendance.

1. Consider and take action to approve minutes of the October 12th regular meeting: Motion was made to approve minutes, motion was seconded and passed.

2. Consider and take action to accept financial report for month ending October 31, 2020: After explaining the financial report, City Manager Pate asked if any had questions. Motion was made, seconded and passed to accept the report.

3. Citizens Opportunity to Speak: First Citizen to speak started by thanking all friends, strangers and strangers who have become friends in the endeavor to collect signatures for a petition to freeze the property taxes for those 65 and older. She presented a petition of eighty-five pages consisting of four hundred and forty-one signatures. She reminded all to get out and vote in May to pass the proposition.

4. Presentation of a plaque to October Employee of the Month: Brad Nichols presented October Employee of the Month plaque to Detective Sergeant Terry Edington.

Detective Edington has been with the BPD for twelve years.

Brad described the sergeant as a dedicated professional who always has a smile on his face and who is a man of great character and high values. He further described him as a task-oriented team player who is a retired member of the US Army. Detective Edington was instrumental in organizing the Joint Honor Guard between the Bonham Police Department, Fire Department and Sheriff’s ofc.

5. Presentation by Fannin Central Appraisal District regarding the impact of the over 65 tax ceiling: Mike Jones from the Fannin Central Appraisal District Officc to give a presentation with the purpose of educating the public as to what impact a proposed 65 tax freeze would have. Mr. Jones brought charts that were displayed for all attending to follow along on his explanation of: 1. Exemptions 2. Tax Ceilings (also known as tax freezes) 3. Examples 4. Effects. He basically explained what &

who qualifies for tax exemptions on tangible property in Texas, what a tax ceiling (or tax freeze is), how reconfigured tax rates are calculated for those qualified to receive a tax exemption and how it causes tax rates to be reconfigured for those who agree (by way of a constitutional amendment) to take on the tax burden in favor of the exempted people. Mr. Jones asked for any questions.

A question was asked that was answered in length by Jones after which Mayor Pro Tem H L Compton offered that any further questions as how a 65 tax freeze would affect you, could be directed to Mike Jones at his office at the Fannin Central Appraisal District Ofc. 6. Consider and take action on a Specific Use Permit request for property ID numbers 127748, 91557, 91527, 127745, 127746 and 127747 to change from single family residential to multi-family residential: Mark Kinnaird with the Planning & Zoning Committee said this permit request came before P&Z in October of this year and the staff had no issues with recommending approval. Mr. Kinnaird introduced Jeff Brown to speak on behalf of the developer Derreck Humphries

with DSH Construction. Reasons were given why the plan to build housing in the way of duplexes in the Franklin Street area would be an improvement to the community and the tax base of the city. There was a citizen present to voice disapproval of duplex housing to be allowed on the lots specified.

After some discussion, motion was made to approve the SUP. Motion was seconded and passed.

7. Consider and take action to vote to disband the Fannin County Water Supply Agency, of which Bonham is a board member: Motion was made to approve the disbanding of the agency as far as the City of Bonham was concerned. Motion was seconded and passed.

8. Consider and take action to ratify the action of the BEDCo Board to purchase 122 West 3rd St Bonham, TX for BEDCo and approving the budget amendment to BEDCo’s FY 2021 budget for said purchase and costs associated: Discussion ensued as to why it should be approved after which motion was made to ratify the action of the BEDCo Board.

Motion was seconded and passed.

9. Discussion regarding scheduling a joint Council and

Low-Cost Vaccine Clinic

TCAP exists to end animal overpopulation and to improve community animal welfare by providing low-cost preventative services throughout North Texas.

Consider and take action to approve the final pay request to Heritage Constructors, Inc. in the amount of $130,044.22 contingent upon Texas Water Development Board approval for the Wastewater Treatment Plant Improvements TWDB CWSRF # 73735: Motion was made, seconded & passed to approve the final payment.

11. Consider and take action on a need for ordinances to possibly address citizen concerns regarding a business located at 308 W Sam Rayburn Dr: The first ordinance citizens were wanting the council to consider was a NO PARKING Ordinance and the second was a Relation Nuisances of Business & Events With the Consumption of Alcohol Ordinance. Mr. Pate stated that though legal counsel could not be present at today’s meeting, legal counsel wanted it said they have reservations regarding the legality of the latter ordinance in relation to the TABC. *Citizen spoke after

Mr. Pate stating the main reason for the ordinances was to make people responsible for their business. *Chief Mike Bankston spoke that though he sympathizes with the residents he wanted to call to the attention of the council that the parking ordinance could restrict up to 70% of the city as the city has many narrow streets and he also believes that the second ordinance would be in conflict with TABC regulations. *Citizen spoke that he was glad that council are considering solutions for problems of the city. Motion was made to table both proposals. Motion to table was seconded and passed.

12. Hold public hearing and consider and take action on an ordinance amending Ordinance 1387 establishing the monthly rates charged for hangar rentals at the City of Bonham Jones Field Municipal Airport: Public hearing was entered into at 6:29 pm.

Discussion ensued after which motion was made to raise rates for hangar rentals and amend 1387. Motion was seconded and passed.

13. Adjourn

Judge Randy Moore called to order at 9:00 a.m., the regular meeting of the Fannin County Commissioners Court.

Quorum was established.

David Woodson introduced the Reverend Jeff Laughlin from First Baptist Church of Windom to deliver the Invocation after which Major James Manis led the pledges.

There were no Introductions but in recognition of Veterans Day, Judge Moore asked all attending who were not veterans, to stand in honor of veterans present whom he thanked for their service.

He also read a letter he had received from Senator John Cornyn to share this day before Veterans Day. Senator Cornyn asked all to join him in honoring the men & women who had served our nation in the U.S. Armed Forces.

He stated “Texas is blessed with an outsized number of veterans” he expressed his pride in representing all the veterans of Texas as well as his gratitude to them for their service. He voiced special thanks to those vets in health care fields, who answered the call to help during this pandemic.

5. Public Forum: Judge Moore issued a comment of apology that he did not act quickly enough to some comments made in the last

meeting. He emphasized the need for respectful comments that do not include singling out people to scold them or comments made with angry or resentful overtones. He invited anyone wishing to speak to come forward. A representative of the Bonham Kiwanis Club came forward to say this weekend was one of the best fund-raising weekends for the children their organization helps. He said they raised an estimated seven figures and wanted to thank all who came out to help.

Discussion, consideration and action regarding the Fannin County Declaration of Disaster Proclamation for Covid-19: Judge Moore expressed disappointment in seeing the numbers of active Covid cases going up in Fannin County. He once again urged all to take caution and be sure to follow safety measures as the contagiousness of this virus is high and even his own brother has come down with it. As of date of the meeting, the total number of active cases has risen from 38 to 54.

Bringing the total number of cases reported to 834 with 54 being active (5 of those in prison), 784 recovered and 20 fatalities. Motion was made to extend the Proclamation for one week. Motion was seconded and passed.

7. Discussion, consideration

and action regarding the Covid-19 Response and Continuity of Operations Plan for Fannin County: Judge Moore encouraged all county workers needing to travel for meetings, to maintain extra measures of caution to avoid contracting the virus. Motion was made to extend the plan one week. Motion was seconded and passed.

8. Discussion and update regarding AgriLife Extension: Bethany Arie gave the updates, saying that though Covid has slowed some things down over this year, they are gearing up with online and in person meetings. One of the programs she spoke of that has been beneficial is the “Do Well Be Well with Diabetes” program.

Helping to implement this program is Alicia Fowler,PA with Bonham Specialty and Family Healthcare. She has greatly assisted Bethany in helping those with diabetes to improve the quality of life. The program has a four and five week course filled with information as well as a cooking segment to enable successful self-management for those with diabetes, as well as their caregivers The next course will be available in January and will be 100% online due to Covid-19 and the flu season being here.

9. Discussion and update regarding Courthouse Restoration: Judge Moore

Interior – rough in plumbing, mechanical piping, duct work, metal stud framing at bathroom for plumbing, blocking for a new millwork, patch old holes in walls from old equipment, piping & duct work, prepare walls for new plaster, install plaster finish mock-up and electrical wall and ceiling rough-in. Judge Moore spoke of having walk thru tours at courthouse at a later date for county employees.

Discussion, consideration and action to approve the Memorandum of Understanding between Fannin County and Health and Human Services Commission maximizing the use of public property for citizens and have a County Judge sign on behalf of the County: Judge clarified specific responsibilities of County and HHSC involving

Motorists Urged To Take 5/7/19 Simple Safety Precaution 1/3/17

TxDOT’s “Click It or Ticket” campaign reminds drivers and passengers about the importance of wearing seat belts

AUSTIN–With health and safety a top priority for millions of Texans, TxDOT reminds motorists of one of the simplest and easiest precautions everyone can take to protect themselves and their loved ones: buckling up.

Wearing a seat belt reduces the risk of dying by 45% for people in the front seat of passenger cars. For those in pickups, seat belts reduce the risk of dying by 60% since pickups are more likely to roll over than passenger vehicles.

“Our annual Click It or Ticket campaign is about saving lives,” said TxDOT Executive Director James Bass. “While almost 91% of Texans have gotten into the habit of using seat belts, there are still far too many motorists who are taking unnecessary chances by not buckling up. Whether you’re the driver or a passenger, wearing a seat belt—day and night—is the single most effective way to protect yourself from serious injury or death in a crash.”

TxDOT officials report that in 2019 there were 925 traffic

fatalities involving an unbuckled driver or passenger, a 6% drop over the previous year.

Although around 9% of Texans do not wear a seat belt, the lack of seat belt usage was reported in 42% of traffic fatalities for those people who had the option to use a seat belt (excluding pedestrian, bicycle and motorcycle fatalities).

In addition, a 2019 Texas A&M Transportation Institute survey noted that drivers and passengers in 18 Texas cities buckle up less at night (between 10 p.m. and 5 a.m.) than during the day. In Texas last year, of crashes in which an unbuckled driver or passenger was killed, 59% happened during nighttime hours (6 p.m. to 5:59 a.m.). Seat belt use among pickup drivers and passengers also continues to lag behind that of other motorists.

Almost 46% of the 499 pickup drivers killed in crashes last year weren’t buckled up.

From November 16 to November 29, as we approach and celebrate Thanksgiving and more drivers take to the road, state troopers, police officers and sheriffs’ deputies statewide will step up enforcement of the state’s seat belt and child car seat laws. Texas law requires everyone in a vehicle

to be properly secured in the front or back seat or face fines and fees up to $200. Children younger than 8 years must be restrained in a child safety seat or booster seat unless they are taller than 4 feet 9 inches. If a child isn’t secured, the driver faces fines of up to $250.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the Click It or Ticket initiative in Texas is estimated to have saved more than 6,234 lives, prevented more than 100,000 serious injuries, and resulted in $23.6 billion in economic savings since the campaign began in 2002.

The Click It or Ticket campaign is a key component of #EndTheStreakTX, a broader social media and word-ofmouth effort that encourages drivers to make safer choices while behind the wheel such as wearing a seat belt, driving the speed limit, never texting and driving, and never driving under the influence of alcohol or other drugs. November 7, 2000 was the last deathless day on Texas roadways. #EndTheStreakTX asks all Texans to commit to driving safely to help end the streak of daily deaths on Texas roadways.

Letter to the Editor Fannin County Justice Center

With the completion of the County courthouse in sight, discussions concerning the proposed Justice Center are again taking place. Recent Letters To The Editor in the Leader have shed light on the fact that only 17 County employees will be housed in the restored courthouse. Some County employees will remain in their current permanent facilities. Sixty one (61) County employees need a permanent home, ostensibly in a new Justice Center. The reason I’m writing this letter is to convey my observations about the current spaces provided for these 61 employees.

I served on the Grand Jury in a cold and cramped space. I recently served on the Mail In Ballot Signature Verification Board. The space provided was cold. Several co-servers brought space heaters to keep us warm. We had to walk to the Grand Jury room through a poorly lit manufacturing area negotiating our way around

old manufacturing equipment and wet floors. One day, we had to set up temporary lights, tables, and chairs in the old manufacturing space because the Grand Jury Room was not available. The County Clerk’s office space is less than half of what it was in the old courthouse, making it difficult to manage an election as well as everyday business. Letters To The Editor in the past 2 editions of the Leader addressed similar facility and space issues with other employees housed by the county. I urge all Fannin County citizens to contact their County Commissioner and urge them to cooperate with the County office heads to provide a justice center that meets the needs of the various departments. It would be also advantageous to build additional space, now, for more employees as the County grows in the years ahead. It is more cost effective in the long run to execute the project right the first time.

Open Arms Shelter Update

By Tina Moore Open Arms Homeless Shelter has been blessed with a $10,000 grant to help with COVID 19 response. The Texas Homeless Network awarded the money from the National Low-Income Housing Coalition Fund. Some of

the money has been used to purchase PPE such as masks and gloves. The grant has also been used for cleaning and sanitizing supplies. A portion of the money will be used to construct an open air COVID screening area at the back of the shelter. This will allow residents to be screened for COVID before entering the shelter for the night. Open Arms has been following CDC guidelines to help prevent the spread of COVID19. This grant has allowed the shelter to be even more prepared to serve the homeless of Fannin County.

Fannin County is now offering a 4-H program designed specifically for homeschoolers.

This is an exciting addition to our community.

EAST The district needed rainfall. A few areas, like Cherokee and Jasper counties, were reporting good soil moisture levels. Warm-season forage growth slowed. Sabine County producers continued hay harvesting.

Cattle market prices were higher than last week. Livestock were in fair to good condition. Wild pig activity continued, causing damage to hay meadows and pastures.

NORTH Topsoil moisture throughout the district was adequate to short. Sporadic rain was reported, and temperatures went up and down. More rain was needed. Feral hogs were very active. Winter wheat planting was wrapping up as early planted wheat emerged. Livestock were in great condition with an abundance of available forage. Spring-born calves were being weaned and looking good.

Nov. 10, 2020 CENTRAL More than half of counties reported short soil moisture. The second crop of corn silage was being harvested. Most all peanuts and cotton were harvested.

Pecan harvest was underway.

There were still a few small grains fields to be planted, but most seed were in the ground and had germinated. Recent moisture and cooler temperatures drastically improved small grains conditions. Winter grasses were also improving.

Cattle markets were down, and some producers were planning to hold cattle through the winter in hopes of a price turnaround.

Topsoil remained “powder dry” in some areas and winter forage planting remained stalled. The planting window was shrinking for those fields, and dry seeding was not an option due to various potential problems. Producers in drier areas were reporting extremely low to completely dry stock tanks, something not seen for a very long time. Pastures were being grazed down. Cooler

Texas A&M University-Commerce Partners with The George Floyd Memorial Foundation

COMMERCE, TX—Texas A&M University-Commerce and The George Floyd Memorial Foundation have teamed up to launch the Be His Legacy Internship Program. The new initiative seeks to eliminate police brutality, promote social justice and protect the civil rights of people of color.

The program is slated to begin in January 2021.

The Be His Legacy Internship Program will be available to student members of the African American Male Mentorship Program (AAMMP) at A&M-Commerce. AAMMP encourages Black male students to actively engage in the university experience, develop leadership skills, and successfully graduate and become future industry leaders.

With the introduction of the Be His Legacy Internship Program, AAMMP members will have additional opportunities for personal and career development Be His Legacy is a two-semester program wherein members will en-

gage in hands-on experiences, community outreach, educational programs and reform initiatives.

“This program aims to provide a one-of-a-kind experience for Black men who are interested in all aspects of civic engagement, education and justice–from voter engagement and education to PR, marketing, lobbying and fundraising,” said Jayson Douglas, associate director of the Office of Intercultural Engagement and Leadership.

Bridgett Floyd, president of the George Floyd Memorial Foundation and sister to George Floyd, explained that program participants will enjoy hands-on learning opportunities from industry experts, including a virtual speaker series where interns can interact with leaders from across the country.

“Interns will work on cuttingedge projects with real-world relevance while receiving mentorship from some of the brightest minds in the fields

of education, government, law and the non-profit sector,” Floyd said.

The George Floyd Memorial Foundation is a non-profit organization established by Bridgett Floyd and family members in memory of the late George Perry Floyd, Jr., who died at the hands of law enforcement in May 2020.

The foundation will continue to promote global awareness about racial injustice and provide opportunities for others to unite communities and touch the world.

“We’re exceedingly happy to launch our first internship program in partnership with Texas A&M University-Commerce,” said Carry Wright, executive director of the George Floyd Memorial Foundation. “We will build upon the legacy of George Floyd and provide professional growth from a remote capacity.”

Johnny Mac Dale served honorably in the United States Army during the Vietnam Era. He loved his county and served with honor. Johnny worked for Kroehler MFG. a furniture manufacturing company before retiring. He was a hard worker; he cut wood and loved fishing and gardening.

Johnny appreciated the quiet and solitude of his home in Telephone, TX where he enjoyed being independent and his own person.

Interment followed at Moore’s Chapel Cemetery. Mrs. Bateman passed away on Saturday, November 7, 2020 at her daughter’s home surrounded by her loving family.

Darlene Thomas was born in El Paso, TX on August 12, 1941 to Leon Edison and Floy Inez (Eldridge) Thomas. She worked as a seamstress at Bonham Manufacturing before retiring Darlene married Billy Joe Bateman on January 24, 1981 in Bonham, TX; he preceded her in death on November 7, 1991. Darlene enjoyed going to the lake, camping, cooking and loved family get togethers. She was a loving mother, step mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, wife and friend, and she is of the Baptist faith.

Funeral Services with Military Honors for Lewis Hutchins, age 83, of Bonham, Texas were held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, November 15, 2020 at Wise Funeral Home.

Burial followed at Willow Wild Cemetery in Bonham, Texas.

Lewis passed away Tuesday evening, November 10, 2020 at Clyde W. Cosper Texas State Veterans Home in Bonham, Texas.

Lewis was born on August 16, 1937 in Savoy, Texas, the son of Johnny Calvin Hutchins and Ida Lavonia Statzer Hutchins.

He graduated from Savoy High School in 1960 and attended Grayson County College where he earned his Associates Degree in Business. Lewis married Betty Carol Poindexter on August 29, 1964 in Bonham, Texas. They were married 56 years before his passing. Lewis joined the United States Army in 1969. He attended military school in aircraft electronics. Lewis bravely served during the Vietnam War. He worked for TP & L briefly. Then he worked for Bonham Lumber Co. and later Bush Lumber Co. in Dallas at the main office. He also worked at Foxworth Lumber Co. before working at General Cable where he worked for 10 years before retiring. Lewis enjoyed fishing and hunting.

He was a member of the First United Methodist Church and later on attended Bois d ’Arc Creek Cowboy Church. Family was everything to Lewis, his grandchildren were the light of his life. He will be greatly missed.

He is preceded in death by his parents, infant daughter, Latrisha Carol Hutchins; brothers, Elijah Hutchins, Otis Hutchins, Elbert Hutchins, and Johnny Delany “JD” Hutchins; and sisters, Audra Fay Aldridge, Catherine Hill, Ola Lee House, Mary Ann Martin, and Frances Wilson.

Lewis leaves behind to cherish his memories his wife, Betty Hutchins of Bonham, Texas; son, Steven Lewis Hutchins of Bonham, Texas; daughter, Melissa Carol Barnes and husband Kevin of Rockwall, Texas; grandchildren, Alexis Britton, John Britton, Ryan Barnes, and Kelsey Barnes; numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

AUSTIN- The Texas Department of Agriculture (TDA) and the Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service joined forces Wednesday, October 21 to host a Pesticide Waste Collection and Pesticide Container Recycling event in Lubbock, Texas. This free, public event allowed agriculture producers to safely dispose of unwanted pesticides and pesticide containers.

Funded by a grant of $400,000

from TDA, the agriculture pesticide waste collection event was a huge success. Approximately 274,521 pounds of unwanted agriculture pesticides were collected.

“Pesticide safety is a top priority at the Texas Department of Agriculture,” Commissioner Miller said. “These disposal events give folks the opportunity to get rid of pesticides in the safest way possible and I look forward to hosting more in the future.”

TDA and Texas A&M AgriLife hosted a similar disposal event in Wharton County last December, the first such event since 2011 and again June 13 in Coryell County and November 6 in Hildalgo County.

Fool Me Once Two Maverick County game wardens paired up with a Zavala County game warden to patrol the county line for illegal dove hunting and managed lands deer program violations. While checking a camp several miles off the highway, the wardens came across a plastic zip lock bag containing two fresh whitetail deer backstraps. After talking to three different individuals in the camp, one admitted to cutting the backstraps out of a deer hit by a car on the highway. After the individual was given a second chance to tell the truth, he admitted to shooting an eight-point buck on the ranch the evening before, cutting the back straps out and leaving the rest of the deer to waste. The individuals were cited for hunting a whitetail deer in closed season and waste of game. One of the individuals was also cited for not having a hunting license for killing a raccoon.

Didn’t Stop in the Name of Love On October 7, game wardens in Presidio and Brewster County were patrolling south on U.S. Highway 67 when they were flagged down by some motorists on the side of the road who were victims of a hit and run. The suspect vehicle description was given, and the game wardens headed south in pursuit. State troopers were advised of the accident and were able to obtain a better description of the vehicle after interviewing the victims. The game wardens located the suspect vehicle with a missing driverside mirror, a traffic stop was conducted, and the driver was arrested without incident just outside Shafter. The trooper working the accident case came to the arresting location to match the chrome from the debris left by the suspect’s vehicle at the accident location. The driver of the truck was charged

with accident involving damage to a vehicle, a Class B misdemeanor, and placed in the Hudspeth County jail.

During transport to jail, the suspect freely admitted to being in a hurry to see his girlfriend in Mexico. The case is pending.

Next Time Use the Entrance Gate A Morris County game warden was patrolling along Interstate 30 near the White Oak Creek Wildlife Management Area boundary when they spotted a vehicle parked along the shoulder next to the Sulphur River.

The location is not a legal access entry point for the WMA, so the warden set up along the Interstate to observe the vehicle and, about 30 minutes after sundown; two men came out of the woods carrying shotguns. It was discovered the two subjects had been hunting for hogs and both received citations.

Week of November 11, 2020 (TPWD) Cedar Creek EXCELLENT. Water slightly stained; 64 degrees; 0.65 low. Largemouth bass are good working topwater plugs, skirted jigs, small crankbaits, and jerk baits early on creeks, rocky points, boat docks, and retainer walls.

Shaky heads skirted jigs, and square billed crankbaits fished near boat docks, brush piles, and timber are productive as well. Hybrids and sand bass are caught off main lake points and humps with slabs, swimbaits, and live bait. Crappie are excellent with jigs and minnows in brush piles, boat docks, and bridges in 15-28’.

Catfish are excellent in 6-18’ with punch bait, shrimp, and cut bait.

Cooper Good. Water clear; 65 degrees; 3.75 low. Largemouth bass are good on short plastic worms and finesse worms, shad like crankbaits and white skirted jigs in 2-15’.

The white bass and hybrids are good in 20-35’ with live bait, slabs, and jigging spoons over humps, ridges, and near main lake drop-offs. Crappie are good with minnows and jigs on brush piles and timber near creek channels. Catfish are good on cut bait and shrimp in 11-25’. birds diving on feeding schools.

Fork EXCELLENT. Water lightly stained; 64 degrees; 2.07 low. Largemouth bass are excellent on skirted jigs, shad or perch colored crankbaits, and bladed spinners near heavy timber, roadbeds, brushy points, and rocky shorelines. White and yellow bass are fair in deeper water with slabs, small swimbaits, and jigging spoons. Crappie are good on minnows in 1425’ in brush piles and standing timber near creek ledges or drop-offs. Catfish are good on punch bait and cut bait in 8-24’.

Grapevine GOOD. Water lightly stained; 66 degrees; 0.54 low. Largemouth bass are good on lipless crankbaits, wacky worms, and jerk baits near brush piles, standing tim-

ber edges, and rough shorelines. White bass are good in 20-35’ with slabs and swimbaits near main lake humps, flats, and drop-offs. Crappie are good on minnows and jigs in marinas and near submerged structure. Catfish are fair on punch bait and cut bait. and chicken liver.

Lavon EXCELLENT. Water lightly stained; 65 degrees; 1.68 low. Crappie are excellent on minnows or jigs fishing 12-24’ over brush piles and bridges. White bass are good in the 20-30’ bouncing slabs and heavy spoons. Look for birds diving over feeding schools of white bass. Black bass are fair on crankbaits and jigs in 8-24’. Catfish are good on punch bait and cut bait in 14-25’.

Ray Roberts FAIR; Water lightly stained; 64 degrees; 0.69 low. Largemouth bass are fair on jigs, crankbaits, and spinners in 5-20’ near points, timber, rip rac, and creeks. White bass are fair in 15-35’ on slabs near main lake points, slopes, and drop-offs.

Crappie are fair on minnows and small jigs in brush piles between 18-28’. Catfish are good on punch bait and cut bait.

Tawakoni EXCELLENT. Water lightly stained; 63-67 degrees; 1.41 low. Catfish are excellent on live bait and cut bait. Largemouth bass are good on crankbaits, Texasrigged plastic worms, football jigs, and light-colored swimbaits. White bass and hybrid stripers are excellent on live bait and slabs, with some fish schooling on the surface. Use sonar to locate fish in deeper water near ridges, flats, and humps in the main lake. Crappie are excellent on minnows and jigs around brush piles, docks, and bridge pilings.

Texoma EXCELLENT. Water lightly stained; 66 degrees; 1.92 low. Striped bass and white bass are excellent on live shad and slabs. Diving birds are marking feeding schools feeding on the surface throughout the lake. Largemouth bass are good fishing plastic worms, silver bladed spinners, and minnow-like jerk baits in 2-12’ chasing shad. Crappie are fair on minnows near boathouses, timber, creek ledges, and brush piles in 15-25’. Catfish are good on cut bait and punch bait.

CALLISBURG -- Dodd City’s 2020 volleyball team has advanced where only a few Lady Hornets squads in the sport in school history have been.

Journie Hilliard made 28 kills and eight blocks and Dani Baccus totaled 23 assists and six digs, as Dodd City defeated Saint Jo, 22-25, 25-18, 25-17, 25-15, in a Region II-1A semifinal on Nov. 9.

The win put the No. 5 Lady Hornets (19-4) in their first volleyball regional final since 2001 -- when Dodd City made its third of three-consecutive program-best trips (19992001) that deep in the postseason of the sport.

No. 3 Blum defeated Bryson on Nov. 10 to also reach the Region II-1A Final -- Friday, Nov. 13, at 6:30 p.m. at Mabank High School -- with tickets to be sold at the gate -- and a state semifinals appearance Nov. 16 or 17 for the winner.

DALLAS -- Dodd City sophomore Lindsey Mauppin will compete in the Class 1A girls state cross country competiton again.

Mauppin finished sixth in the overall standings of the girls 3200m Region III-1A race in 13:39.64 on Nov. 9 at the Jesse Owens Memorial Athletic Complex in Dallas to qualify.

She will run in the 1A girls state 3200-meter race on Monday, Nov. 23, at 9 a.m. at Old Settler’s Park in Round Rock.

Last fall, Mauppin placed 25th in 13:06.7 in the 1A girls state race and earned all-state honors in 1A in cross country from the Texas Girls Coaches Association for 2019.

Other girls who competed for Dodd City, which placed ninth as a team with 226 points, at the regional meet included: freshman Kaylen Atchley, 56th, 16:01.75; sophomore Autumn Brown, 68th, 16:24.92; sophomore Carson Morrison, 81st, 17:00.17; senior Prairie Wild, 85th, 17:41.07; freshman Zoie Hobbs, 89th, 17:47.84; and sophomore Tiana Jenkins, 105th, 19:40.32 Ector junior Jael Grijalva also

placed 91st in 17:53.85 in the girls Region III-1A race.

Senior Landon Allen’s 40thplace finish in 20:22.76 led Dodd City’s boys team, which placed eighth with 251 points on Nov. 9.

DALLAS -- Honey Grove senior Aaron Uribe narrowly missed making his secondstraight trip to the Class 2A state boys cross country competition.

Uribe finished 25th in 18:54.77 at the Region II-2A boys competition on Nov. 10 at the Jesse Owens Memorial Athletic Complex in Dallas.

He fell three spots shy of advancing again, after placing 85th in 18:10.20 in the Class 2A boys state race in 2019.

Other Fannin County boys who competed in the same regional race included: senior Weston Whiteside, Sam Rayburn, 42nd, 19:32.4; junior Nicholas Wolfe, Honey Grove, 68th, 20:49.38; freshman Beau Bromley, Sam Rayburn, 87th, 21.50.52; senior Trevor Werner, Honey Grove, 104th, 24:38.42.
