9/12/23 wisefuneralhome.com

I believe that every life is a sacred gift from God, created with purpose, filled with meaning, and worthy of being honored with dignity, love, and reverence. Scripture reminds us in Ecclesiastes 3:1 that “To everything there is a season, and a time to every purpose under heaven.” There is a time to be born, a time to live, a time to weep, and a time to die. From a biblical standpoint, a funeral is far more than a final goodbye. It is an opportunity to glorify God for the gift of a life, to reflect upon the blessings of love and family, and to find comfort in His eternal promises. I believe that tears and celebration can exist together, for even Jesus wept in the presence of death. Grief is not a lack of faith; it is evidence of a love that runs deep. At Wise Funeral Home, I strive to make every service a reflection of the individual God created. Whether through heartfelt prayers, cherished hymns, meaningful traditions, or the simple beauty of a final farewell, I believe that honoring a life is itself an act of gratitude to our Creator. We do not simply prepare for death. We honor the beauty of life, celebrate the blessings of yesterday, and point grieving hearts toward the hope of eternity. As Jesus promised in John 11:25: “I am the resurrection, and the life: he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live.”

Place chicken cutlets into the skillet and season with salt and pepper. Cook until both sides are browned and the cutlets can be easily pierced with a fork, about 8 minutes each side. Remove onto a cutting board and slice into strips. Place bacon into the same skillet and fry until crispy. Remove to a cutting board and dice. Whisk first 3 dressing ingredients together in a small bowl. Whisking constantly, slowly pour in the oil. Season with salt and pepper. Assemble all salad ingredients in a large bowl. What Do You Know About Human Trafficking? It may be closer to home than you think

Press Release - Human trafficking does not always begin with a stranger or a kidnapping. Many times, exploitation starts quietly through trust, secrecy, manipulation, online conversations, or access to a child’s vulnerability. According to Jaco Booyens Ministries, America is the number one nation in the world demanding sex with children. Digital grooming has become the new predator playground, with an estimated 750,000 predators online at any given time. JBM also reports that 60% of children have unknowingly engaged with a predator

through online chat. Predators are not limited to one app or platform. They are active anywhere children and teens can be contacted, especially on social media apps, gaming platforms, and any digital space with a chat feature. The Fannin County Leader is committed to helping families understand this difficult issue with clarity and practical next steps. Parents, grandparents, churches, schools, and community leaders do not need more fear. They need tools, awareness, and guidance they can use. Each month, Jaco Booyens

Ministries provides free Parent Community resources to help families better understand the risks children are facing online and offline. These include The Parent Brief, a monthly email focused on one important issue affecting families, along with helpful toolkits and guides such as The Parent Toolkit, The Summer Safety Guide, The Special Needs Toolkit, and The Launch Years Guide for ages 18–24. These resources offer practical information, conversation starters, checklists, and safety tools designed to help adults protect children with wisdom, aware-

ness, and action. To join the free Parent Community, scan the QR code provided and sign up with just your name and email address. (Close out the pop up, not needed to sign up) Additional resources and information are also available at helpjbm.org/parentcommunity. Human trafficking is not just a global issue. It is a community issue. Protecting children begins with informed, prepared adults.

Letter to the Editor Why is France Burning and Are You on the List?

For those of you who do not watch network news outlets like Fox News or NewsMax (local news stations tend to shy away from reporting on many topics), you may not have heard about the list that was created by Leftist Attorney Jack Smith (the guy who tried to put Donald Trump behind bars) with the names of everyday common folk like me, who bought a MAGA cap some years ago (my husband and I bought two). I, however, did. And, as disturbing as that was to hear about, I was even more appalled when I heard Democratic Senator Elissa Slotkin say during an event at the University of Chicago that aired on national tv, that she wants Trump administration officials prosecuted to discourage conservative students from taking jobs in the Trump administration! So basically, she wants the arm of the Law to be weaponized to dissuade would be young Republicans from serving in the government?? It really makes me wonder, what the heck is going on when high sitting politicians encourage the use of weaponizing the law and indeed changing long standing widely accepted laws for their own misguided agendas. America is known as one of the greatest civilized countries in the world and I believe the two-party system (no disrespect to the Green and Libertarian parties) working within the framework of our established laws has worked very well in keeping a good balance and creating that reputation. And though I lean to conservative policies, I am well aware of and sometime agree with more liberal views. However, as an American I am in strong disagreement with the weaponization of our legal system or the promotion of bad behavior by some segments of our society, to garner votes in obtaining (and in some cases holding onto) political positions of power. Common sense and civil debate seem to have been replaced on one side of the aisle by extremism and total disrespect for the rule of law. I find myself in agreement (surprisingly), with the iconic Democratic James Carville who noted his odd desire to see his beloved party lose the House by five seats to propel them to make changes for the better. Maybe, he suspects as I do, that bad political leaders who promote and justify lawlessness, care mainly about their own positions of power, are the real reason France is burning. Rose Schwartz

Fannin County Witnesses to History: Charlie Christian created the Charlie Christian A Joint Project of the Sam Rayburn House Historic Site and the Fannin County Historical Commission Celebrating America 250 with Spotlights of Fannin County Citizens Who Participated In or Witnessed Historical Events

Charlie Christian with Benny Goodman. Photo courtesy of the Fannin County Museum of History. By Margo McCutcheon, Educator, Sam Rayburn House SHS Charles “Charlie” Henry Christian was born on July 29, 1916, to Willie Mae Booker and Clarence James Christian in the Tanktown area of Bonham, TX. He had two brothers. The family moved to Oklahoma City, OK, in 1918 so that Clarence could find work, as he had recently gone blind. Charlie’s family had musical roots, and Charlie was in a quartet with his father and brothers. He continued studying music through school and by listening to jazz, blues, Western swing, and other bands or musicians that played in Oklahoma City. During the 1936 Texas Centennial, Charlie played in Dallas, TX. He may have bought his first electric guitar in 1937. Known “for his unique single-note soloing

style and masterful improvisation” according to the Texas State Historical Association (TSHA), Charlie toured with a few different groups before Mary Lou Williams heard him in 1939 and convinced John Hammond, a New York music producer, to give Charlie an audition. Charlie auditioned for and joined the Benny Goodman Sextet and changed the world of music with his artistic talents. The TSHA wrote, “Musicologists and performers have acknowledged his [Charlie’s] creative contribution to modern jazz as an early pioneer of electric guitar on recordings. His picking technique, altered chords, melody lines, and, of course, solos represented a new approach to jazz.” Some people credit Charlie with contributing to the creation of “bebop” music. Down Beat magazine ranked

Charlie as America’s best guitarist from 1939 to 1941. By 1942, Charlie had played with Count Basie and performed at Carnegie Hall. The song, “Solo Flight,” may be his best-known recording. In 1932, Charlie had one daughter with Margretta Lorraine Christian. Charlie Christian died on March 2, 1942, in the Seaview Sanitarium in Staten Island, NY, from tuberculosis at age 25. Funeral services for him were held in New York, Oklahoma City, and at Bethlehem Baptist Church in Bonham before burial at Gates Hill Cemetery in Bonham. His grave was unmarked for many years until 1994 when a tombstone and a historical marker were erected at his presumed burial plot. He has been inducted into the Big Band and Jazz Hall of Fame and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. In 1985, Oklahoma City

men hunting. As he drove up to the individuals, one of the gentlemen stood up and shot a bird that fell a few yards from him. The warden proceeded to complete a hunting check. He spoke with the individual and asked if he was aware of the type of bird he had just shot. The hunter did not know. The warden informed him that the bird was an American kestrel, a protected bird of prey, and is not allowed to be hunted or harvested. The warden checked the other hunters in the group and discussed the issues around peppering, ensuring their shotgun pellets did not cross property lines. A citation was issued for harvesting a protected species. The case and civil restitution are pending. Off the Road Again An Amarillo district game warden was patrolling in Potter County after dark when he was notified about an injured individual who had been “run over” by an all-terrain vehicle. The warden responded immediately. He found one adult male hit by an ATV and suffering non-lifethreatening injuries to his legs. The victim and other eyewitnesses at the scene identified another adult male as the driver of the ATV. Upon speaking with the driver of the ATV, the warden noticed that he had heavily slurred speech patterns, glassy/ bloodshot eyes, and the odor of alcohol emitting from his breath. The victim of the collision was transported to an Amarillo hospital. The driver of the ATV admitted hitting the victim with the ATV and was subsequently arrested for driving while intoxicated and deadly conduct. The driver was booked into the Potter County Jail without incident. Caught on Camera In September, a Tyler County game warden received information on individuals potentially participating in road hunting. The warden worked with a landowner setting up surveillance cameras in their field. Not long after he set up the monitoring system, he observed a slowmoving vehicle spotlighting and headed towards his location. The warden initiated a traffic stop, determining the subjects were hunting at night. Inside the vehicle, the warden located a loaded .22 long rifle. Additionally, the subject was a minor operating a vehicle under the influence of alcohol. Charges are pending.

Lile B Dunn, of Bonham, Texas, affectionately known as “The Man in the Green Truck,” passed away on October 11, 2026, at the age of 67. Lile was a one-of-a-kind man who valued his freedom, independence, and love of traveling. For nearly two decades, his green truck was a familiar sight throughout the community. Though he could be quiet at times, those who knew him knew he could talk for hours and share stories. His unique personality made him unforgettable to many. For approximately nine years, Lile’s beloved dogs were his constant companions. They were more than pets; they were his babies and family. His devotion to them was a special part of his life. Dunn and Ollie M. Dunn, and sister Lucretia Ann Dunn. As we remember Lile, may those who mourn him find comfort in Psalm 34:18 (KJV): *“The LORD is nigh unto them that are of a broken heart.” * May God’s promise in Revelation 21:4 bring hope and peace to all who carry his memory in their hearts. Lile will be remembered with affection by those whose lives he touched. Though his familiar green truck may no longer travel the roads of Bonham, his memory will live on in the hearts and stories of those who knew him. He will forever be remembered as **“The Man in the Green Truck.” ** A Memorial graveside service will be held at 2:00 PM, Sunday, November 1, 2026, at Arledge Ridge Cemetery. God’s Garden God looked around His garden And found an empty place. He then looked down upon the earth And saw your tired face. He put His arms around you And lifted you to rest. God’s garden must be beautiful He always takes the best. He saw the road was getting rough And the hills were hard to climb, So He closed your weary eyelids And whispered “Peace be thine.” It broke our hearts to lose you But you didn’t go alone, For part of us went with you The day God called you home.

Abiding in the Word

Calvary Baptist Church Bonham, Texas Jesus did not leave us guessing about what marks a true disciple. He said, “If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed” (John 8:31). Notice that He did not say a disciple is someone who attends services, holds the right opinions, or once walked an aisle. A disciple continues in His Word. The reason this is so supremely important is because Jesus Himself is the Word. John 1:1 tells us, “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.” The Word became flesh and dwelt among us (John 1:14). When we neglect the Scriptures, we neglect the very voice of our Savior. We cannot claim to love Christ while ignoring the book that reveals

Him. Scripture is also sufficient for the Christian life. Paul reminds us that “all scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: that the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works” (2 Timothy 3:16-17). Every part of it is breathed out by God. It teaches us what to believe, rebukes our sin, restores us when we stray, and trains us to live holy lives. David said it is “more to be desired than gold” and “sweeter also than honey” (Psalm 19:10). Is that how you treat it? Do you hunger for it, or do you leave it closed on the shelf while our phones stay open in our hands? I want to challenge each of

you this week: • Read it daily. Even fifteen minutes a day will transform your life. • Obey it. Do not merely hear the Word; be a doer of it (James 1:22). • Gather under it. Make faithful worship, Sunday school, and Bible study a priority. • Share it. Teach it to your children and tell others the good news it proclaims. You will never grow past your need for the Word of God. The disciple who stays in the Word will be kept, corrected, strengthened, and made more like Christ. Keep your Bible open this week and stay in the Word!

Hello everyone! This week’s devotion comes from Romans 8:28, which tells us, “And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.” God knows the hard times and suffering that we go through in our lives. Getting down in the dumps is usually our response when we face these types of circumstances, making it difficult to see what lies ahead in the future. This verse tells us that even though our circumstances change, we can still trust in the Lord. We can have faith in Him even in the difficult times. This doesn’t mean our lives will be a bed of roses. We will still suffer hardships and pain, but God can still work through these hard times

to accomplish His purpose and help us to grow in faith. This promise is given to those who love the Lord and belong to Him. He is still working to fashion our lives according to His will. There will no doubt be times in our lives when things just don’t seem to make sense. We must pray to God for an answer. We must also remember that His timing is not the same as our timing. The lesson we can take from this verse is that we don’t have to understand everything in order to trust God. Even in difficult times, He can use these experiences to strengthen our faith and bring us closer to Him. We should never judge the faithfulness of God by our circumstances. Instead, we must trust Him to work His perfect

will for our lives. What seems difficult today never prevents God from bringing about good in our lives. In 1847, Mary Peters wrote a classic hymn that fits perfectly with the message in this verse. “Through the love of God our Saviour, all will be well. Free and changeless is his favour, all, all is well. Precious is the blood that healed us, perfect is the grace that sealed us, strong the hand stretched torth to shield us, all must be well. Though we pass through tribulation, all will be well. Ours is such a full salvation, all, all is well. Happy, still in God confiding, fruitful, if in Christ abiding, holy, through the Spirit’s guiding, all must be well.”

Even When We Don’t Understand It, God Moves

What To DO When We Don’t See Any Light At The End Of Our Problem Isaiah 50:10,11 When we look at these two verses in the Bible we find the right and the wrong answer to this question. As children of God we must be careful not to look to this world or even look to ourselves to solve our problems. Jesus Christ has the answer and He will help us solve life’s problems IF we look to Him. Without Christ the light at the end of the tunnel can seem like a train coming toward us. For those of us who know the Lord remember the things He teaches in His Word. We have God’s Word on it, if we search the Scriptures. We can’t know what the Biblical answers to our problems are if we never read our Bible. 1. Remember to obey the voice of the Lord. 2. Remember to obey with your whole heart. Remember obedience brings success. Joshua 1:8. I Samuel 15:22 Remember to obey is better than sacrifice. God’s solution to our need

and problem is to let Him help us. Together with Christ we can all make it. Psalm 50:15 And call upon me in the day of trouble: I will deliver thee, and thou shalt glorify me. Psalm 46:1 God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. 3. Remember to trust in Him and not your own human understanding. Proverbs 3:5-6 Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths. 4. Remember to delight yourself in Him. He loves you. Psalm 37:4-5 Delight thyself also in the Lord; and he shall give thee the desires of thine heart. Commit thy way unto the Lord; trust in him; and he shall bring it to pass. Here we see He cares. 5. Remember Christ is the Light. Don’t let life bring darkness to you. Psalm 36:9 For with thee if the fountain

of life: in thy light shall we see light. We do not want our understanding darkened. Ephesians 4:18 Having the understanding darkened, being alienated from the life of God through ignorance that is in them, because of the blindness of their heart: 6. Remember Christ always has a better way for us. Pray, read the Bible, attend church and keep good friends. Good people help us to live a good life. Christ cares and He is the Light. He will help you with your problems. Just call upon the Lord. He is waiting to help you and to save you. John 3:16-18 ye must be born again. That is the Light that makes life worth living. Walk with Christ. Have a blessed week knowing that Christ really cares about you. Choose His JOY. Pastor Bernard Antonis, Jr. Gospel Light Baptist Church Cooper, Texas

Notice of the Application and Preliminary Decision will be published and mailed to those who are on the county-wide mailing list and to those who are on the mailing list for this application. That notice will contain the deadline for submitting public comments. PUBLIC COMMENT / PUBLIC MEETING. You may submit public comments or request a public meeting on this application. The purpose of a public meeting is to provide the opportunity to submit comments or to ask questions about the application. TCEQ will hold a public meeting if the Executive Director determines that there is a significant degree of public interest in the application or if requested by a local legislator. A public meeting is not a contested case hearing. OPPORTUNITY FOR A CONTESTED CASE HEARING. After the deadline for submitting public comments, the Executive Director will consider all timely comments and prepare a response to all relevant and material, or significant public comments. Unless the application is directly referred for a contested case hearing, the response to comments, and the Executive Director’s decision on the application, will be mailed to everyone who submitted public comments and to those persons who are on the mailing list for this application. If comments are received, the mailing will also provide instructions for requesting reconsideration of the Executive Director’s decision and for requesting a contested case hearing. A contested case hearing is a legal proceeding similar to a civil trial in state district court. TO REQUEST A CONTESTED CASE HEARING, YOU MUST INCLUDE THE FOLLOWING ITEMS IN YOUR REQUEST: your name, address, phone number; applicant’s name and proposed permit number; the location and distance of your property/activities relative to the proposed facility; a specific description of how you would be adversely affected by the facility in a way not common to the general public; a list of all disputed issues of fact that you submit during the comment period and, the statement “[I/we] request a contested case hearing.” If the request for contested case hearing is filed on behalf of a group or association, the request must designate the group’s representative for receiving future correspondence; identify by name and physical address an individual member of the group who would be adversely affected by the proposed facility or activity; provide the information discussed above regarding the affected member’s location and distance from the facility or activity; explain how and why the member would be affected; and explain how the interests the group seeks to protect are relevant to the group’s purpose. Following the close of all applicable comment and request periods, the Executive Director will forward the application and any requests for reconsideration or for a contested case hearing to the TCEQ Commissioners for their consideration at a scheduled Commission meeting. The Commission may only grant a request for a contested case hearing on issues the requestor submitted in their timely comments that were not subsequently withdrawn. If a hearing is granted, the subject of a hearing will be limited to disputed issues of fact or mixed questions of fact and law relating to relevant and material water quality concerns submitted during the comment period. MAILING LIST. If you submit public comments, a request for a contested case hearing or a reconsideration of the Executive Director’s decision, you will be added to the mailing list for this specific application to receive future public notices mailed by the Office of the Chief Clerk. Hayes Equine October 2026 Newsletter ANHIDROSIS It has continued to be an exceptionally hot and dry summer. The 100 plus degree temperatures for more than 3 months, have caused horses to stop sweating. We have seen several this summer. Their sweat glands, from constant stimulation to produce sweat by high day and night temperatures, have “burned out”. This results in horse losing its ability to produce sweat. This condition, called anhidrosis, affects 6-20% of the horses in the southern states. Signs of Anhidrosis Rapid respiration with flared nostrils, respiratory rate of 40-80 breaths per minute with normal being 16-20 /minute. Elevated temperature 102 or more. Normal temperature is 100-101. Reluctance to move, standing off by itself, panting. No sweat on the neck chest or body compared to the other horses sweating. Partial sweating on the neck or under the saddle. When the horse sweats, it cools itself like we do. This method, called evaporative cooling, uses water-rich sweat to dissipate heat from the skin to maintain a safe core temperature. When the horse loses the ability to sweat, they cannot cool themselves or thermoregulate. A horse with a thick hair coat in the summer (a precursor to Cushings) is especially susceptible. They are miserable and at risk for heat stress, respiratory and cardiac problems, and founder. Treating Anhidrosis is not very successful and is often just management. Eliminate or reduce exercise, and ride only in brief intervals early in the morning. Get the horse out of the sun by 11am. Stall it in a barn and keep it as cool as possible with fans, misters, or a water cooler. If the horse has a thick hair coat and did not shed off for summer like it should, clip the hair coat several times as needed. Various oral supplements claim to help non sweaters include One A C powder, Platinum Performance Refresh, MegaSweat, Omega 3, Himalayan salt, or dark beer on the feed. I have tried them all with no success. Acupuncture had a 50/50% success rate. The only thing that works is cooler temperatures. When the night temperature drops below 70 degrees consistently, the horse will regain the ability to sweat. Often the next summer, the horse develops anhidrosis again and doesn’t sweat. Moving the horse north to a cool climate also works. It appears that cooler weather is finally here which will help the nonsweaters thermoregulate and regain the ability to sweat giving them relief. Castration signs: October 16-22. It's now cool enough to castrate.

Fannin County Voting Information

No Voter Turned Away! (Part 3) Suspense! Sounds a foreboding movie plot. The word suspense has taken on a whole new meaning in the elections world. If you have been watching the news, numerous individuals are claiming that their voter registrations have been suspended. That’s probably true. Recently one judge whose voter registration had been suspended implied that their voter registration had been suspended intentionally for political reasons. That’s probably not true. Last year the Texas Secretary of State Office updated the software used statewide for voter registration. The nicest thing I can say is that it has been challenging. Numerous uploads and deletions of data have taken place. Numerous problems resulted including delays on the mailing of voter registration cards. (Some counties still have not mailed them.) Gratefully, we are in a much better place than we were last year at this time. However, the cleanup is ongoing. We still have quite a few people in “suspense”. One of the things that can trigger a voter being placed in suspense is the return of mail sent to the address on file. So, what happens if your voter registration has been suspended? If nothing has changed, your name is the same and your address is the same, then the Elections Administration Office reinstates your registration. It is a relatively painless procedure and can usually be done with a phone call. What if your address has changed? We will need you to fill out an address verification form. We process these immediately and reinstate your registration. So, what happens if your voter registration has been cancelled? If it was cancelled

Divine Equine Therapeudic Riding Center Sherman, TX

Press Release - Divine Equine Therapeutic Riding Center is located at 2822 Louella Road, Sherman, Texas. They are a small non-profit 501(C)3 and their mission is to serve our communities by offering therapeutic sport riding to children, adults, and veterans with disabilities. The Center was born of the love of horses and of people – all ages. Many disabilities can be managed and improved through therapeutic riding. Divine Equine’s powerful team of horses and humans work together to teach impactful therapeutic mounted and unmounted lessons that are based on each rider’s specific needs and abilities – not just their challenges. The team is composed of licensed therapists (Behavioral, Emotional, Massage, Mental, Occupational, Physical) and Professional Association of Therapeutic Horsemanship (PATH) International Certified Therapeutic

Riding Instructors who utilize trained techniques to help heal the rider’s body, mind, and soul. Instruction aligns with the natural gait of the horses, which is the same movement of a human – this allows the rider to respond (mentally and physically) with the movement of the horse. Each lesson focuses on safety, drives participants with obtainable goals, inspires intendance, instills confidence, ingrains responsibility, develops senses, improves communications skills, balance, hand-eye coordination, and so much more. All this plus learning that riding is fun. By providing such a wide range of services Divine Equine is a one-stop shop for participants and their families to receive the support they need to maintain and improve their overall health, especially those with disabilities. Divine Equine Therapeutic Riding Center services to

residents from all throughout northeast Texas and southeast Oklahoma including but not limited to Fannin, Grayson, Collin, Lamar, and Cook counties in Texas and Bryan, Marshall, and Love counties in Oklahoma. The following horseback riding and programs are available each year, with a brief summer break in August and a winter break December through February. Volunteer training and opportunities for service are available yearround. Volunteers can contribute in many ways – from assistance as a side-walker during lessons to cleaning and working in the bard, to community engagement and promoting fundraisers – al of the volunteers’ efforts are appreciated and are need at the Center. There are so many people they help, so many needs that the Center gives to and must maintain to keep supporting those in all the programs. day subject of what one can or cannot do. Divine Equine Therapeutic Riding Center has over 70 participants that they serve. They do their best to offer scholarships to those who do not have funding from the state, who need therapy, for those that cannot afford the additional expense that can come into play with a family member with a challenge. “My son, Josh, is one of those recipients of a scholarship,” Sherry Ravenscroft. There are so many people they help, so many needs that the Center gives to and must maintain to keep supporting those in all the programs. As a parent of a child with a challenge – the first thing I learned was everything that I did, said, or voiced was to teach others how to be aware of those things that are more difficult for others to learn, achieve and gain, than those who are not challenged. It is not something one thinks about, but if it is in your family, your life, it is an everyday subject of what one can or cannot do. Quotes that mean so much… For those that can’t walk, those with a rough gate, those with wheels for feet: To ride a horse, gives us the wings to fly, the balance we seek, the freedom so we don’t have to touch the ground to be free. - Sherry Ravenscroft There is something about the outside of a horse that is good for the inside of a man. - Winston Churchill
