DRIVER APPRECIATION WEEK AT TMC

We were proud to once again celebrate Driver Appreciation Week (September 14-20) at every TMC terminal.

Each year, Driver Appreciation Week gives us a chance to show our drivers how much we appreciate their hard work, their dedication, and everything they do for TMC and our customers.

Like past years, we offered lunches and events at our terminals for drivers who could make it through, so they could get a meal and a heartfelt “thank you” from our office staff.

But this year, we decided to go the extra mile to make sure every driver felt our appreciation—even if they couldn’t make it to a terminal.

We partnered with sponsors to send a care package to each driver in our fleet. The box included a Driver Appreciation Week t-shirt, a hat, a gift card, two pairs of work gloves, and other items.

We also ran giveaways, games, and trivia contests on our driver app and our social media pages, to give drivers even more chances to win great prizes during the week, no matter where they were.

Thank you to our drivers for everything you do! We loved celebrating you during Driver Appreciation Week.

TMC Recognized as KBX Logistics’ GP BP Flatbed National Carrier of the Year

TMC was recently named 2024 GP BP Flatbed National Carrier of the Year by KBX Logistics.

KBX has been a TMC customer for many years. As the logistics arm of Georgia-Pacific, KBX manages the transportation of Georgia-Pacific’s products, and TMC has been proud to serve as a flatbed carrier for several different lines of the company’s business. The partnership has really grown in recent years, says Josh Wical, TMC Vice President of National Accounts. “Thank you to everyone who helps us serve KBX,” Josh says. “It’s taken consistency in communication and consistency in service to earn this award.” Thank you to KBX for this recognition!

TMC Receives Southwire’s 2024 Flatbed Carrier of the Year Award

TMC is proud to announce that we’ve been named Flatbed Carrier of the Year for 2024 by Southwire.

We’ve received this award three years in a row, and Josh Wical says this demonstrates the impact TMC has made as a strategic partner for Southwire. “The fact that we’ve received this award for three consecutive years is an incredible achievement,” he says. “From our drivers to our fleet managers and customer service reps, everyone has stepped up to provide outstanding service for Southwire.”

TMC Takes Part in Two Special Olympics Convoys

We were honored to be part of both the Iowa Special Olympics Convoy and the South Carolina Special Olympics Convoy this year. We’ve supported the Iowa convoy throughout its entire 20-year history, and we were thrilled to participate in the South Carolina convoy for the second year in a row. These great events raise money for the Special Olympics and help to change attitudes about people with intellectual disabilities.

TMC’s Clarence Wynn was named Driver of the Year by Gerdau Steel’s Petersburg mill. Gerdau is a leading global steel producer and a longtime TMC customer. “It is particularly noteworthy that Clarence has distinguished himself among hundreds of drivers who enter the mill daily,” says Jeff Floyd, Vice President of National Accounts at TMC. “Clarence exemplifies what it means to do things the TMC way—every single day, and I want to personally extend my sincere gratitude and recognition for his outstanding contributions.”

DRIVER OF THE QUARTER

Q2: Dana Ryckman

With more than 15 safe years and 1.5 million safe miles, Dana is a pillar of one of TMC’s dedicated accounts. As Jeff Bleadorn, his fleet manager, says, “Dana comes to work every day with a positive attitude and has been a valuable team member, always willing to help anyone out. Dana has always been a safe driver, taking safety very seriously, and he secures his loads the correct way every time.” Congrats to Dana for being named Driver of the Quarter!

LOGISTICS EMPLOYEE-OWNER OF THE QUARTER

Q2: Zachary Gracey

Logistics Sales Executive Zachary Gracey is a natural leader who combines real-world trucking experience with sales expertise, and he even set a company record by booking his very first load just three days out of training. “He brings a level of expertise that shippers don’t always think about—the driver’s perspective,” says Kevin Duff, Logistics General Manager. “He’s great at asking the right questions, staying thoughtful and curious, and ultimately giving customers a different kind of experience.”

ROOKIE OF THE QUARTER

Q2: Edwin Cabrera

Erwin Cabrera started driving for TMC in October of 2024, and he has already made a name for himself as a smart, safe flatbed driver who knows the importance of safety and doing

BLACK AND CHROME SALUTES

We love hearing stories of our drivers going above and beyond! This one comes from a member of the public who saw driver Alex Cutshall lend a hand to a fellow driver.

“In Baltimore County, Maryland, at the ramp coming off Route 70 onto 695, a car was broken down on the side of the road. A semi pulling an empty trailer in front of me could not fit to get by and brought traffic to a complete stop. The driver of your truck was behind me and did not hesitate to jump out to assist. He worked side by side with the first driver until the path was clear—took a while, but I was so impressed with how they handled it.

“Just wanted to let you know that watching your driver help a fellow trucker restored a little faith in humanity. It made my heart happy to see someone so willing to help while the rest of us sat and watched—he jumped out of his truck, threw on his gloves, and never left his side. I told him he was a good man for helping the way he did but wanted to pass it along to you too. You have a diamond working for you and it was an honor to watch him shine this morning. Great job, TMC!”

I parked up at the Brownsburg terminal for the weekend, and Matt showed me a better way of X-strapping my load and how to use the power truck connection. I was here about a month ago, and he showed me some tips and tricks for load securement as well. Really appreciate you, Matt!

-Keaton Hall to Matthew Achenbach

During a routine inspection, Frank Molenaar discovered several cracks in the rim of my steer tire on the passenger side. At a glancing observation, the cracks appeared to be water marks. Frank visually and physically inspected the cracks up close and discovered that the cracked were severe and completely cracked all the way through. Thank you, Frank, for your diligence and very good inspection. Although you’re a trainee, I suspect you will be a very good driver for TMC. Keep up the good work!

-Sharrieff Banks to Frank Molenaar

It was my first time hauling steel coils and second time using chains to secure. Santiago took the time out to help me secure them by throwing chains and even gave a few tips on how to set up, what to look for, and a better way to secure chains in the headache rack. But also, to everyone out there helping one another out, give yourselves a hand and keep giving each other a hand.

-Vincent Jeter to Michael Santiago

Josh Dabne parked behind my truck and noticed I was struggling to replace a mud flap that I had just damaged. Without me asking for help, this driver had the selflessness to take time out of his day to help me fix my mud flap and get back on the road. I did not want this act of kindness to go unnoticed.

-Michael Santiago to Josh Dabne

I met Nathan at a shipper in Arkansas. I asked him to help explain how to finish up my steel tarp and he didn’t hesitate to come over and help! We talked for a while, and he gave me lots of helpful information. He mentioned that he was wanting to become a trainer, and I think he would be a great trainer for TMC! Thanks again, Sparky!

-Cale Kirk to Nathaniel Sparks

I am convinced that the on-site Silver Grove mechanics are TMC’s greatest asset east of Des Moines. They never fail to keep drivers moving in a timely manner and are well stocked and knowledgeable on various issues that arise with a truck and trailer. Their accessibility is extremely valuable. I know for a fact that whatever recognition they already get is not enough for what they provide.

-Ricky Bowling to the mechanics at Silver Grove

I met Will at the Brownsburg, Indiana, terminal while waiting to be released from training. We spoke for a few hours about his experience here at TMC. He was extremely helpful and gave me a lot of information on what to expect day to day, and he also gave me some other keys to be successful. I appreciate him for taking time out of his day to speak with me and share his experiences.

-Jeffery Wallace to Will Schultz
