WHAT IS DUAL CREDIT?
The Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board defines dual credit as a system in which eligible high school students enroll in college courses and receive credit, from both the college and high school. Dual credit courses may be taught on the high school campus, by an approved instructor, or on a college campus. Courses include both academic and technical options.
Benefits Of College Dual Credit
• Begin your pathway to a college degree early, gaining college-level credit while attending high school.
• Complete a postsecondary degree while still in high school, in select pathways.
• Save money on college tuition; courses are often offered at a reduced rate.
• Transition more smoothly between high school and college.
• Transfer credits earned in high school to Texas public colleges and universities.
College Course Pathways
DETCCA provides college-level dual credit courses toward specifically approved pathway credentials and degrees. Students should meet with counselors and the DETCCA Director to consider the career pathway options available and the college credentials and degrees associated with those pathways.

The most popular programs are highlighted in this brochure but other programs are available. See your counselor for more details.
