It’s NOT Christmas time (yet)... It’s Advent...

Some folks are just plain irritating peo­ ple to be around... I’m sure you all know somebody that gets under your skin, makes you cringe... Someone pushy & obnoxious, that too often makes inappropriate com­ ments... Someone who always seems to inter­ rupt our thoughts & conversations, talks over the crowd... Some who’s just like listening to finger nails on a chalk board...

But it’s not all that that really gets to us...

It’s the fact that, all too often... They are right... Makes you want to cuss & scream, doesn’t it??? It makes listening to them even tougher, and it makes following their advice almost unbearable...

And that’s what makes Advent a tough time for a lot of us... No, NOT ir­ ritating family in town for their annual visit... I’m talking about John the Bap­ tist... Peter was endearing, because we can relate to him & his hard­head­ edness... We can admire Saint Francis for his love of animals like the ones at the manger scene...

But, John the Baptist??? He’s an unset­ tling Old Testament type of prophet

who came on the scene proclaiming a baptism of repentance for the forgive­ ness of sins... Talk about spoiling the Christmas mood... We wouldn’t want

to invite John to our holiday parties...

He would seem an obnoxious and self­ righteous intruder in the midst of our holiday cheer...

We’ve all encountered one of those fiery preachers on a loud­speaker in some shopping center parking lot, screaming at us about how we’re going straight to Hell if we don’t stop & repent right now!!! That’s John the Baptist... And the most irri­ tating thing is that he’s right... Espe­ cially during Advent...

Remember, Advent is NOT the Christ­

mas season!!! It doesn’t matter that in our contemporary culture we start cel­ ebrating Christmas right after Thanks­ giving, with its relentless marketing and endless soundtrack of carols... In the Church year, it is Ad­ vent, and that means we have to confront the words of folks like John the Baptist.. Bah, humbug... Right???

As irritating as John the Baptist & preachers like him might be, as much as they may get under our skin, they have an important message for us... That’s the real & true point behind Ad­ vent... It’s NOT about getting those warm & fuzzy holiday feelings... It’s about preparing for what is coming...

And before we rush to the joy of Christmas, before we receive the great mystery of God literally with us, we have to prepare for this event through a time of self­examination and penitence... That is, we need to set aside some time to examine our spiritual lives, to look with utmost honesty at all the ways our lives are out of balance, to look at all the ways we are involved in self­destruc­ tive behaviors, and to try clean out the spiritual trash, to try bring about

some harmony in ourselves and in our world...

As John says, quoting the prophet Isa­ iah, “Prepare the way of the Lord, make straight his paths. Every valley shall be filled, and every mountain and hill shall be made low. The winding roads shall be made straight and the rough ways made smooth and all flesh shall see the salvation of God.” So in Advent, we hear John’s message as an invitation to spiritual reflection...

Just as we might clean our house in preparation for special guests, so the Church asks us to take stock of our souls and to be at our best when the special day arrives...

It’s time to find our balance in life...

With the invention of the light bulb, life balance became a myth... Now human beings could extend the day and deny the night... Now human be­ ings could break the natural rhythm of work and rest and sleep... Now human beings could begin to de­ stroy the framework of life and turn it into one eternal day, with, ironi­ cally, no time for family, no time for reading, no time for prayer, no time for privacy, no time for silence, no time for time... and life is flying by... out of kilter... and we just can’t seem to catch up long enough to take note of it as it flies by...

Benedictine spirituality, which has had a great influence on Anglican tradi­ tion, is a spirituality of balance and harmony and wholeness... Benedict is

saying that all facets of our daily lives can be holy and sacred: what is needed is to bring all these things into harmony: a balance of work and prayer and study and leisure and serv­ ice... our time and attention...

No one thing exaggerated out of all proportion to the other dimensions of life... No one thing absorbing the human spirit to the exclusion of every other... Life is made up of many facets and only together do they form a whole...

We all tell ourselves that things are just too hectic, that what we really need is play, not holy leisure... We all say we’ll do better tomorrow and then we don’t... We all say that the schedule is too crowded and the children are too noisy and the exhaustion is too deep...

But, if we do nothing to change it, the schedule just gets worse and the noise gets more unrelenting and the fatigue goes deeper into the bone... The fact is that it is our souls, not our bodies, that are tired... The fact is that we are so over­stimulated and so under­ener­ gized that the same old things stay simply the same old things...

It’s easier just to slump in front of the TV and delude ourselves by say­ ing that tomorrow will somehow be different...

But there’s good news, there’s hope: we can get our lives back into harmony and balance. And there’s even better news... It doesn’t call for extraordinary feats of spiritual

gymnastics...

Benedictine balance sees life as a med­ ley of multiple dimensions, each of which must be developed... Making time for every facet of life ­ work, play, steady friends, spiritual growth, intel­ lectual stimulation, and harmony with nature... a rhythm of life that includes the natural, the spiritual, the social, the productive, the physical, and the personal...

That’s a pretty good vision of spiritual wholeness and balance that is classi­ cally Anglican... It’s something many people are longing for these days....

The hard truth is that for many of us our lives are out of balance... Maybe that’s why we need someone like John the Baptist, someone we find grating, to point this out for us...

If, during Advent, we truly prepare for the coming of the Lord, we need to spend some time examining our lives and trying to get things in order... We CAN change, and we CAN find a rhythm of life that makes time for every facet of our lives... Through hu­ mility and prayer and study, we can move to a greater sense of wholeness and harmony in our lives... AND, dur­ ing this holy season set aside for spiri­ tual reflection, even as we engage in this process of seeking wholeness and balance in our lives, we are also preparing for the greatest of all spiri­ tual gifts: the gift of God coming into our lives once again at Christmas...

And that’s what we should mean every time we say, “Merry Christmas!”

Gooey and Cheesy Warm Bacon Dip Ingredients •8 ounces cream cheese, softened •2 cups sour cream •1½ cups shredded cheddar cheese •6 slices bacon, cooked and crumbled •½ cup sliced green onion Instructions 1.Preheat oven to 400 F. 2.Combine softened cream cheese, sour cream, cheddar cheese, bacon and green onion.

Spoon mixture into a 1quart baking dish and bake for 25-30 minutes, or until cheese is bubbling and hot.

Ingredients-Pumpkin Pie Bars 1 can Pillsbury™ refrigerated crescent dough sheet , 2 eggs , 1 can (15 oz) pumpkin (not pumpkin pie mix) or homemade pumpkin puree, 1 cup whipping cream, 1/2 cup packed brown sugar, 1/4 cup corn syrup, 1 tablespoon pumpkin pie spic.e 1/2 teaspoon salt , Sweetened whipped cream or additional pumpkin pie spice for garnish Step 1 of 5 Heat oven to 350°F. Line 11x7-inch pan with cooking parchment paper, leaving about 1 to 2 inches paper hanging over sides of pan.

Step 2 of 5 Unroll 1 can Pillsbury™ refrigerated crescent dough sheet in bottom of pan; press with fingers in bottom and up sides. Set Step 3 of 5 In large bowl, beat 2 eggs, 1 can (15 oz) pumpkin (not pumpkin pie mix), 1 cup whipping cream, 1/2 cup packed brown sugar, 1/4 cup corn syrup, 1 tablespoon pumpkin pie spice and 1/2 teaspoon salt with whisk until smooth and well blended. Pour mixture into pan over dough.

Step 4 of 5 Bake on middle oven rack 45 to 50 minutes or until center is set. Remove from oven to cooling rack. Cool completely, about 1 hour 30 minutes.

Step 5 of 5, Using hanging paper, lift from pan. Cut into 4 rows by 3 rows to make 12 bars or 4 rows by 4 rows to make 16 bars. Garnish each bar with whipped cream or a dusting of pumpkin pie spice. Store in refrigerator. pillsbury.com

Easy Pecan Caramel Turtles 4 oz. pecan halves 24 unwrapped Kraft Caramels 1 tsp. shortening 1 cup semisweet chocolate chips Preheat oven to 300 degrees F (150 degrees C). Cover cookies sheet with aluminum foil, shiny side exposed.

Lightly grease foil with vegetable oil spray. Place 3 pecan halves in a Y shape on the foil. Place 1 caramel candy in the center of each Y. Bake just until caramel is melted, about 9 to 10 minutes.

Heat shortening and chocolate chips over low heat just until chocolate is melted.

Spread over candies and refrigerate for 30 minutes.

A CONTINUANCE FROM THE NOVEMBER 2015 ISSUE

Chapter 2 … Looking straight into the face of doom.

I kept on walking and running on far, far away. It appeared to be that I was out of town, in the wooded area with very few houses. I smelt food as saw smoke coming from an area up the road. So to that area, I kept furthermore going. When I arrived at the edge of this property, I saw a large very stocky and hairy man. He was in shorts, and large boots. He appeared to be cooking on a grill.

He had very, very large dogs that were all on big chains! They barked very, very mean at me continually as the man that was cooking first yelled at the dogs to quiet down, then looked all around to see why there was such an uproar, what they were barking at. And then, he spotted me. He looked as if he had seen a ghost. I sat for him very pretty. Not in the stance of begging but rather, asking, “Oh please sir… I am so lost, tired, and hungry. If you could just spare me a bite to eat and a place to lay my head for awhile it would be appreciated greatly!”

The man, he walked toward me slowly. Then, he stopped. He called for me,” Come here doggie, doggie, little doggie…”

He appeared to be very inviting and welcoming as his dogs were not at all the same to me. He walked over to the grill and grabbed off of it a piece of meat and dangled it to me calling for me to come to him... “Here doggie.. doggie… doggie…”

While he was smiling at me. I began walking to him very, reluctantly, slowly, and I got very close waiting for him to just throw the piece of meat to me but he didn’t. He yelled at the other man standing on the porch of the house, “NOW!..” and as he did the man on the porch threw something at the man offering me food as the man offering me food dropped that food to the ground and chose to grab what the other man was throwing at him instead.

I hurried to grab the piece of meat that fell to the ground. I hurried as I turned away from the man and began to run away. As I ran as fast as I could, while I heard several large bangs blasting and all of a sudden I felt something hit me in the lower back end, hard. As I was running and running I began hurting there as then it turned to me falling as I could not all of a sudden feel my lower back and legs. I was paralyzed! I was shot, I was doomed. I was captured by this mean man on the loose.

I heard his footsteps approaching me as he was yelling what many would say obscenities.

I closed my eyes tight as I slowly began to fade away. It appeared to be as if I was dreaming. An illusion. This is now what I prayed for it to be… An illusion… A bad dream that I would awake from immediately.

But it wasn’t. This was my now situation and reality. I heard him as and when he was standing right above and over me.

Every piece of dirt on this road cringed alongside in unity, the same with me due to with the presence and pressure of this man. I heard him ask, “Dog… you still alive?”

As I tried to hold my breath to act as if I had already passed but I could not stop the tears that were falling from my eyes and the unbearable uncontrollable yelping crying expelling from my insides. This mean man, he bent over and grabbed me by the back of my neck and slung me like I was a bag of garbage into the back of his large wheeled truck of a vehicle.

He released one of his large mean dogs and that dog jumped into the back of the truck and stood over me. His presence and breath was more than intimidating rather threatening. This dog was taught to be and become pure evil.

The mean man then started up this loud, truck that screamed and he began to drive frantic and out of control all over the road! Gunning the trucks gas pedals with large blasts as it seemed on purpose to hit every bump and hole in the road! As he hit each he yelled out a hollering as if he was having fun doing this?????? I could not comprehend nor understand… These hateful actions hurt my whole body and spirit so much!

I was more than whining I was now, bawling, praying, while crying. As my body was tossing to and fro due to the inability, my lacking of any type of control.

The dog of his was jumping back and forth as it attempted to always stand with his legs strong while slobbering all over me as if he was also having fun and at me laughing. The dog was challenging himself to remain standing throughout all of this chaos taking place.

Then, the mean man squealed his tires on this side road to a sudden halt.

The mean man got out of the truck, he downward to the ground jumped as he slammed the door of the truck shut. He walked back toward me and reached back and grabbed me by the back of my head, top of my neck hard and mean as he slung me unrelentlessly into a ditch on the side of a road.

The mean man got back into his truck and squealed off while yelling again what man would classify and say are obscenities…

In this jungle of a untamed world it truly is no matter what species one may appear to be, a dog eat dog world that out here, I have experienced, as I have seen.

OH! Awwwwwwwwwww……….

I cried… I cried… I cried… deep from the depths of my insides….

I tried to move but could not. I just laid there in severe pain and to God, I began to pray.

As of today, I am in the ditch as I am now fading away… slowly.

As I am now by the hands, choices, an actions of just one man,

left for dead.

May God be with you as well, always….”

Prays The Lord Prayer Segment for December

My Lord..

I want to take the time to thank You for every moment of breath…

With and in regard to this flesh life I have been given…

Granted…

According to the eyes of man it would not be or seem to be great at all…

From their opinionated stance…

But all of these moment of experience I captured were and are lessons to mold me into what and who You desired and created me to be…

I must go through these fires and storms to transform and teach me..

That penetrated my every part of my being…

I could only stand and withstand because of You…You, carried me through….

You are my soul whole reasoning for my ability to endure…

I want to thank You also for all of the people that have crossed my path and way..

Whether/weather their impacts be good or bad, Your divine revelations of their truth, You then reveal and show me…

By, in and with their encountering… By the revelations of contents when impacting…

I want to thank You this very day for allowing not just opening doors of opportunities..

But also the shut ones…

Even when I cried over and over again for you to open them..

They were lodged shut…

In my face…...

And then..Locked..

And I pulled and pulled..I pulled so hard to open then I got tired and just laid by them..

Banging and banging..And pushing and pulling while crying…Crying out to You, Lord..

To open them up..While man watched and laughed…And said, “She is a curse…

She is not blessed!” And shunned and run from me..And turn their backs on..

And create things that were never there to hinder my walk with You more and more…

The ones that I desired to be open were still locked…

And even through I yearned for You to open them..

You never did…You refused to…And I could not at all understand…

And man, then said..

“Give up and forget it..God does not care for you…And God does not answer you..Because you don’t belong with us or Him… We are His elect…Get out of here…..Cursed you are…You are not welcome here….Never to be accepted in is you…Can’t you get that in your head?”

Click… Went their lock of their door again and again..

As I came to each….

Banging…

My desires I yearned for in my heart…

Were never given…

As man NOW says…

“See?” It is written…

Mark 11:24 speaks, “For this reason I am telling you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe (trust and be confident) that it is granted to you, and you will [get it].”

Psalm 37:4 speaks, “Delight yourself also in the Lord, and He will give you the desires and secret petitions of your heart.”

See?i It shows you ..You are not His..And are not His elect, select” Then, I kept on with God. And still pleading as well…

My pleas were not His pleas and desire…

That is why they were not opened and answered..

Those asked for desires were not pleasing to His spirit and plans…

As again those around spoke to me as more doors by them kept closing and locking..

In my face…

Speaking hurtfully, hateful and mean, “ He does not answer you because he can’t stand you..

How stupid and crazy are you??? Get out of here!”

And over and over again I kept pleading to Jesus….

Crying and pulling…And not understanding why not yet has He opened them?

And today..

I want to thank You Lord, for all of those closed ,locked doors….

And the turned backs and mouths from me…

For they did not have my best interest in mind or desire for me..

But instead the opposite ..

And You locked the doors to be able to let me in to furthermore be destructed…

What the devil means for bad, God does make for good..

And all of this time…I now REAL-EYE(s)..

That You, My Lord, over and over again answered my plea and prayer..

It is that I just did not want to listen to the answer that You desired, gave, and had..

To lock them..

Because when man prays to You..

Unless you answer the way we want and desire You too..

Then we consider it often, an unanswered prayer…

When all along..You answer not to our request but for us what is best…

And I want to thank You Lord..

For not just all of the open doors and opportunities that man yearns for and sees as prosperity..

But for all of those closed locked ones..That were chronically shut on me…

That would have led me wrong in some way….

Oh how You answer prayers..

In the right way continually….

Those cries and pleas….

They were my flesh desires, not Your hearts desire for me..

You, are who truly desires and knows what is best for me..

When You My Lord..

I now see..When You are speaking of our hearts..

You are speaking of our core..

Our spirit and soul, has nothing to do with the vision and path of flesh at all…

My Lord..

Today.

I want to thank You..

For all of the closed., locked shut doors..

They make me more dependent on You over and over again…

They also prepared my way for the later dates..

In the again..Attempts of denial and stripping…

It helped me to be able to continue to endure over and over again..

My Lord..

After all of these years of me crying out to You… Why you would not answer me..

Is simple as this..

You were according to Your will and plan..

Really…

Thank You Lord..

My Lord..

I come before Your throne of love, kindness, mercy and grace..

That fills this place..

And I have not to ask anything.. but instead to speak and say…

This very plea to You directly…

My Lord…

I know that it is You that truly desires the very best of and for me…

So(w) with my whole heart and soul I want You to know. how much I thank and also love You so(w)…

From now on I will strive to be more like thee, be obedient to Thee..

This I promise Thee…

As I choose now to come, do and say…

My Lord…

Not my will be done..

But soul-ly,only Yours…..

Forevermore And so(w) this is..In Your name and presence….

I am and will and shall remain….Forevermore and always…

Amen and amen..
