Q. The Collection Magazine: Welcome to Huma Kotor Bay Hotel! What drew you to this position, and what excites you most about leading this property?
A. Mr. Jochen Niemann: Huma Hotel is a hidden gem in one of the most breathtaking locations in the world—Kotor Bay. What attracted me was not only its stunning setting, but also its potential to deliver a truly immersive luxury experience. The blend of Mediterranean charm, contemporary design, and worldclass service is an incredible foundation to build upon. What excites me most is the opportunity to elevate Huma into a destination that is synonymous with refined hospitality, where every guest leaves with lasting memories of the place and people.
Q. You have a wealth of experience in hospitality. What key lessons from your journey do you bring to Huma, and how have they shaped your leadership philosophy?
A. One of the greatest lessons I’ve learned is that luxury is about personalization and anticipation - knowing what guests need before they ask. I also believe that great hospitality starts with a great team. Motivated and empowered partners create a culture of excellence. I lead by example, fostering a team culture where passion, attention to detail, and genuine hospitality come together seamlessly.

A. My vision is to position Huma as the premier boutique luxury destination in Montenegro. I want to enhance our wellness offerings, introduce curated local experiences, and refine our culinary journey. I see Huma becoming a destination where guests return year after year for a truly immersive experience.
Q. How do you plan to ensure that Huma is not just a place to stay, but a destination that offers something truly unforgettable?
A. By creating moments that surprise and delight. Whether it’s a private sunset dinner by the sea, personalized welcome rituals, or insider access to Kotor’s hidden gems, I want guests to feel that their experience at Huma is tailor-made just for them.

Q. Luxury hospitality is constantly evolving. What trends do you see shaping the future of high-end hotels, and how do you plan to integrate them at Huma?
A. Luxury is becoming more experience-driven, with a strong focus on authenticity, sustainability, and technology-enhanced personalization. Guests today seek seamless service, curated experiences, and a sense of exclusivity. At Huma, we will integrate digital conveniences like seamless check-ins, but without losing the human connection that defines true hospitality.
Additionally, we will soon introduce a dedicated mobile application that allows guests to communicate directly with our team, request services, explore curated local experiences, and personalize their stay - all from their smartphones. This ensures convenience while maintaining the warm, personal service that makes Huma Kotor Bay special.
Q. Huma already has a strong reputation, but what will be its defining feature under your leadership?
A. Under my leadership, Huma will be defined by an unparalleled level of personalization and guest experiences. Every stay will feel tailor-made, with thoughtful touches that anticipate our guests’ needs and create lasting memories. Beyond exceptional service, we will position Huma as a true gateway to Kotor Bay’s rich culture and natural beauty.

Q. What role does technology play in modern hospitality, and how can it enhance - not replace - the human touch in guest service?
A. Technology should streamline processes, not replace human interactions. AI can enhance personalization by remembering guest preferences, while digital concierge services can provide instant assistance. But at the heart of luxury hospitality, it’s always the warmth and intuition of our team that makes the difference, and I am so proud of our multicultural, multiskilled professionals that look after our guests.

Q. Exceptional hotels are built on extraordinary teams. What’s your approach to inspiring and motivating the staff at Huma?
A. I believe in fostering a culture of empowerment, respect, and growth. Investing in training, recognizing achievements, and creating a team that takes pride in their work is key to delivering exceptional service.
Q. How do you ensure that every interaction - whether at checkin, in the restaurant, or behind the scenes - reflects the highest standards of hospitality?
A. Consistency is everything. Through training, mystery guest programs, and constant feedback, we refine every touchpoint to ensure it aligns with our brand promise. Additionally, my aim is to regularly be present during service hours, personally experiencing the level of service delivered. This hands-on approach allows me to observe guest interactions, identify areas for improvement, and provide real-time feedback to the team. By leading from the floor, I can ensure that every detail meets our high standards and that our guests receive an exceptional experience every time.
Q. Many leaders speak about service culture. In your view, what does it truly mean, and how do you bring it to life at Huma?
A. Service culture is not just about processes; it’s about mindset. It’s the belief that every guest should feel valued. I bring it to life by leading with passion, ensuring my team understands that their role isn’t just about tasks - it’s about creating memories.

Q. Today’s travelers are more conscious of sustainability. How do you see Huma contributing to eco-friendly and responsible tourism?
A. Sustainability is no longer optional; it’s essential. At Huma, we are committed to reducing our footprint by sourcing local and organic ingredients, minimizing single-use plastics, and implementing energy-efficient solutions.
Q. Beyond sustainability, how do you envision Huma deepening its connection with the local community?
A. By partnering with local artisans, farmers, and guides to offer authentic experiences. We will also invest in community-driven initiatives, ensuring that tourism benefits both our guests and the local people.
