A LETTER FROM REX

Thank you and welcome to this year's spring BARU RANCH spring bull sale. We are very pleased with these bulls and believe that they will work for you as you build value into your next calf crop. The future is the goal line and the goal line is in reach with unpresidented cattle prices and opportunities.

There is more value coming soon to our industry. This spring 'Sustainable Beef LLC' will be opening in North Platte, NE with Walmart as a major Stakeholder. Walmart and Sam's Club collectively rank as one of the largest beef retailers. They have pledged to package and sell both red and black angus as angus beef. USDA has already ruled and considers Red Angus cattle eligible to be sold in all angus beef programs. As I understand it Sustainable beef will have approved feedlots and those lots will be looking for your red calves. In addition our Charolais crosses will t as well so long as the calves are at least 1/2 angus. Those calves will not have to have red angus yellow feeder tags, but it won't hurt and it might help you merchandise your calves. With that said, I would love to help you merchandize your calves. Red replacement heifers are hard to nd and I have people calling me looking for them. I personally think we all need to work together to get our good calves to the people looking for them, whether they are looking for replacement females or feeder cattle. We are serious about keeping you as a customer. To that end our bulls are guaranteed to make it through the rst breeding season reproductively sound. The bulls have been checked and passed by KABSU within 30 days of this sale. They have been vaccinated with Viroshield 6 +VL5 and 20/20 vision (blackleg-pinkeye). They have been recently poured with Clean-up. If you have any trouble with one of our bulls, please let me know. We want to help if we can and will negotiate a settlement that works for everyone.

I want to take a 'few' words to talk about what we are doing with our breeding program.

1. As you can see we have a lot of yearling bulls in the o ering. It is my plan to bring our newest and best genetics to you as soon as they can pass the breeding soundness exam. My opinion is based on how I personally like to buy bulls. I like to get them home and used to the environment before they have to carry a heavy load. I like to get a few calves early because I'm impatient to see how they are going to actually perform.

2. We have some Charolais cross bulls to sell this year. We are o ering a hybrid option to our bull buyers. I truly believe that these half blood bulls will breed more cows and last longer than a purebred. We know that hybrid vigor a ects the lowly heritable traits like fertility and longevity. The Charolais calves in our herd were pounds heavier from weaning on but not bigger at birth. They calved great and to date we have not pulled any of our Charolais calves, not even a backwards one so far! ( I know the breed doesn't a ect abnormal presentations, but still?) The heifer mates to these bulls will be mated to Red bulls to make a super Red individual with advantages from both breeds. The new guidelines for parity at Sustainable beef will accept these buckskin colored calves. Charolais cross feeder cattle are the kind cattle feeders like to feed ~!~

3. 'Purple' genetics. We are utilizing some black genetics to improve a couple things. First is our genetic base. By using Black bulls we can pull in outcross pedigrees and explode our limits so that you can have as close to crossbred calves as possible that are still purebreds. Next is that we can enhance our EPD pro les using bulls that have enormous advantages, particularly when it comes to carcass merit. There are 4 of these bulls in the sale this year and I am extremely pleased with them. I think you will like them as well. Their heifer mates will be the ones we use to go Red, which is our goal.

4. Probably the most exciting project at the ranch now is our donor program. In an e ort to move us to elite status, we purchased the high selling heifer at the spring Pieper sale, 2024. Her rst 6 calves are here and they look fabulous! We ushed an Iconic heifer that was an embryo we produced and raised. Those cattle have amazing growth and carcass numbers. We will be o ering embryos and ushes on our best cows in the coming year. The idea is to focus on the best genetics and use those to produce more high quality bulls through ET. The real value in this program will be the improvement in our cow herd, the sisters to those superior bulls will be kept to in uence the future of the Bar U.

It is my hope that you will visit us at the Ranch in the coming year. There is nothing I like better than to share the beauty of this Flint Hills ranch and talk about good cattle and horses ~!~

One of the things I admire most about this bull is his raw athleticism. His stride is long and he is light on his feet. His foot structure is near perfect. Phenotypically he is bold in his rib design. Bold would also describe his muscling structor, with pronounced de nition through his sti e and forearm. Dez is a clean fronted bull that has a square pro le design with a level topline. His rst calf crop at the ranch did not disappoint with low birth weights and powerful design.

Des Moines Progeny Des Moines Progeny

BARU DES MOINES 958-246K has 9 calves recorded in his progeny record so far. Five heifer calves averaged 73 pound at birth and ranged from 64-79 pounds. He has four bulls that averaged 81 pounds at birth ranging from 70-92 pounds. The average CED is 10.1, average BW is .65, average WW is 64, average YW is 105.

Tator is a powerful cow bull prospect with a minus birth weight epd. He is the thickest ended widest topped bull in the o ering. His sire is no longer available and extremely sought after. Add in a great cow family and you have a herd bull prospect. We used this bull on a set of fall calving cows and can't wait to see his o spring ~!~

406 screams curve busting heifer bull. Take a look at his numbers. He is in the top 7% of the breed or better for ProS, CED, BW, YW, and Marb. If you like performance, you will like this one. He is out of a great cow to boot and he is easy to look at. He is smooth and stylish in his front design with enough muscle to balance.

The interesting thing about Vaquero is the size of his mother. She is one of the very smallest cows in the herd. Vaquero is anything but small. His mother has a tremendous udder and really out did herself with this, her rst calf. His sire 'Spartan' is one we raised and are counting on for great females. Spartan's sire 'Franchise' is known for good uddered cows. Spartan's mother is a Cinch daughter that is a top producer. He is another curve buster with double digit calving ease and great growth. You will like his long spine and great feet. Pick this one to produce your replacement females.

We lost this calf's mother to prolapse when Dougan was born. He did the rst few weeks of his life on a bottle and then we grafted him on a cow that had another calf, so he was basically raised as a twin. I though he made the best of his rough start and grew into a robust bull prospect keeping up with his peers who didn't have to share. He is very stylish posting double digit calving ease and exceptional growth numbers to match his 'good looks'

This bull came screaming to the front. I didn't give him the credit he deserved and all at once he made it to the top of the grow pen. He ranked 3 of 10 for weaning weight and 1 0f 10 for yearling weight. Check out the CED and BW EPDs on this bull. His mother, a rst calf heifer, gained a lot of respect from us with this rst calf. She originated from one of the best cow families in my Dad's herd. You will appreciate his long sided, sound frame and his powerful stride.

This bull represents a unique opportunity to own one of our favorite ET matings. If you study the numbers, Tibido has a distinct advantage. He rocks the Grid Master with a top 4% ranking, the WW top 4%, YW top 6%, Adg top 9%, Marb top 5%, CW top 2%. We have a full brother and three full sisters that are producing and we are really excited about the progress we made with this mating. Considering his 77 pound birth weight, he would be a natural choice to us as a clean up bull on some 1A heifers. Have a look on the next page at some of his family portraits.

He is in the top 7% for YW, top 24% Marbling, top 4% Carcass Weight and top 8% for Rib Eye area. He is a grandson of GAR Ashland on the bottom side. 411 puts a lot of performance into a wide package. He is uniformly thick from front to rear with a tremendous bold rib. He ranks in the top 15% of the breed for GM, top 10% for CW. He is in the top 52% or better in 10 categories. Bone and muscle with acceptable calving ease. Use this bull to produce outstanding feeder calves.

Buchman’s Stonehorse Inn

When you come to visit the ranch or are just passing through, we have a comfortable place for you to stay. Small town with a quiet atmosphere. This inn is very spacious, with lots of character. A large front porch with a comfortable porch swing as well as a patio furniture to have your breakfast, or a glass of wine at the end of the day after hiking the tall grass prairie preserve. This house is decorated with ranch motif, and lots of pictures on the walls from all of our dude ranch events. When you walk in and shut the door you leave all your worries behind.

This might just be my all-time favorite hybrid Charolais to date. He is uniformly thick and square. He is unusually gentle and easy to handle. Traveling on a great foot and tracking extremely wide, he will de nitely take your eye. This is a unique opportunity to have a hybrid bull from one of our very top 1A cows. Apache is an elite producing cow with a fantastic udder who is sired by PIE ONE OF A KIND 352. If you miss this one, we are growing a full brother for next year that looks just as good.

Some would say we saved the best for last. 415 AKA 'Mocalishis" is a tremendous growth bull with a lot of phenotype. He is balanced and expressively muscled. Take a look at his individual performance. He was the heaviest yearling weight bull we raised this year. His mother raises a high performance calf every year.

PIE FAYE 3017 is most likely the most exciting female at the ranch. She was the high selling replacement heifer in the 2024 Spring Pieper sale and boy was it fun to win the bid on this one! The calves on the facing page are her rst IVF ush sired by .SF SRR IDENTITY 0295H. She produced 8 embryos, we transferred 7 fresh and got 6 calves. One red bull we call 'THE CONGRESSMAN'. Next we ushed her to BIEBER JUMPSTART J137 and froze 9. Four of those sold in the Red Revolution sale January 5th for 500$ per. We transferred 3 for fall 2025 and have two left in the tank.

This cow is available to ush to the bull of your choice. You may also buy the two embryos we have in the tank. Plans are to conventional ush her this spring after she calves. She is currently Bred to BARU MAGIC 908-321L. Magic is top 1% ProS, top 9% HB, top 3%GM. Call if you are interested in owning her genetics.
