A LETTER FROM REX

It was 2015 when Teresa and I started down this registered red journey. It has been a blast~!~ I have been blessed with tons of new friendships and lots of good times. I have no idea what I spent my time doing before when I didn't have genetics to shop for. I really think it was my Dad's fault. Some of our very best memories came from shopping for new bulls. Dad put this ranch together by being frugal, but he had a few weaknesses and one of those was bulls. We never shopped for the cheapest bull, just the best one we could afford. So it comes as no surprise that his son has been living the dream trying to produce that best one. I always thought I would rather be Burton Buchman's son than one of his bulls because he was never satisfied with his bulls (and he approved of me most of the time). He loved his cows and bought bulls to make them better. T and I are the same way, except that we now shop for donor cows as well as bulls we can't afford but can buy semen from.

We have been fortunate to add two cooperator herds to our program. David Senne who has been using our bulls and an accelerated culling program with his cow herd is represented in lots, 10,11,12,&13. These bulls are sired by Baru Promise 209K who is also in the sale, consigned by one of our newest partners, Mike Douglass. We are trying to grow our program with like minded producers to offer our customers more and better genetics. As the finish line gets closer, we are ramping up our investment with high value donor females and embryo work. Lot #1 is the result of some

of our best embryo work. I want you to take a look at that bulls EPD profile. I am really pleased with his numbers. Where we want to go is elite EPD profiles backed by sound, attractive cattle. Next fall will be the first set of calves out of our PIE FAYE 3017 cow. We fought with everything we had to own this cow and she has not disappointed us. Her calves are top shelf and there are quite a few of them. Five bulls and one heifer all born in the spring of 2025. We left her open so her next set of calves will be born next fall. PIE MISS FOCUS 380 was our next big investment and we have two calves on the ground now and a possible two more next fall. The next big time exciting female is BARU PRIMETTE 480. She sold for 12500$ last January to Mark Chris from Oregon. We reserved a flush and we plan to use female sexed Cadillac semen. I splurged and bought Moon Pie embryos out of Copenhagen's mother. We will be putting them in this spring. Stay with us as we climb the genetics ladder, making better performance, more profitable cattle that will work for you.

The Charolais hybrid cattle continue to impress. We have two half blood bulls in this sale and they are impressive. T calls lot # 2 'lollipop' and thinks he is the best bull we ever raised. I can assure you he is an athlete, quick to be there when there is a cow in heat. I believe that the hybrid vigor in these crossbred bulls will manifest in soundness and fertility underlined by the number of cows they breed. This bull is out of one of our very best 1A purebred One of a Kind daughters. We thought enough of him to use him to clean up the fall herd. Next year we will be introducing some 3/4 Red Angus 1/4 Charolais bulls. Our half blood Charolais heifers are impressive! Under the heading of heat tolerance, I think these lighter colored cattle will excel.

Also, the bulls have been vaccinated with either Preg guard 10 or Viroshield 6 vl5, vision 20-20 with spur, poured with ivermectin, and had a multimen injection. KABSU has done the BSE exams and Trich tests. All, but the last bull, have been genetically DNA texted to improve their EPD numbers.

Here is the rst bull to sell out of our BARU ICONA 296K donor. He is a fantastic way to introduce the "Purple" selection. Numbers, numbers, numbers. Top 1% of the breed ProS, top 4% HB, top 6% GM, top 1% WW, top 2% YW, top 4% HPG, top 5% CEM, top ;3% Marb, top 6% CW and he is a calving ease bull with 14CED and a -1.5 birthweight. This bull is taylor made to make your calves pro table. He has the goods ~!~

Here is a 'copperhead' bull that will take your eye. His mother in one of our top 1A cows. He is straight and correct in every way. Fantastic feet and a pasture covering athlete. We thought enough of this bull to use him on our purebred herd as a cleanup bull this past winter. Teresa calls him lolly pop and he is her favorite. Promise is a proven bull that you can depend on for performance while maintaining double digit calving ease. He is not what I would call a heifer bull but he calves well on the cows and his calves grow big. He is also out of our PIE Janet 1366 cow. His sire, PELTON WIDE LOAD 78B Made some great cattle for us including the mother of our 12500$ red revolution heifer. There are four bulls selling in this sale sired by Promise. This is a dependable bull still young enough to use for a few more years.

Wow you are really gonna like to look at this one~!~ He is a big framed raw boned bull with a ton of performance out of one of the most fertile and productive cows we purchased from Pieper Red Angus. His mother has only had one calf that wasn't AI sired. His sire is the one bull we produced that has 'stud quality' and is available through Cattle Visions. He is double digit calving ease and high performance. in the top 9% of the breed for carcass weight.

This orange colored bull lost his mother when he was too young to wean. He had to make it as a robber for the last month prior to weaning. It took him a long time to recover from that rough start. Today I think you will agree that he is a high performance bull that will do a great job. His EPDs show his high performance and you will like the look. I believe that when you put him on red cows his daughters will have the advantage of the Charolais breed and the color to sell as replacements. Great feet and great yield grade numbers on this square made bull.

Radio is one you will like to look at. His thick top and expression of muscle spells power. He is straight and strong in his pro le and tracks wide on both ends. He is calving ease for large framed heifers. We use his sire, BARU DES MOINES to improve phenotype. We don't have any Des Moines heifers in production, but his full sisters have great udders. They are level and symmetrical udders with small nipples. I suspect the Des Moines daughters will be very productive.

HEIFER BULL Teddy comes from a line of moderate framed, heavy muscled cattle. He is a smaller framed bull that comes at you with tremendous power and width of skeleton and muscle. His low birth weight (68 pounds) and his CED o 18 coupled with -3.5 BW compared to his WW of 70 and his YW score of 112 make him a big spread wise choice for your consideration. Don't miss this one.

Dino is stylish. Sired also by Des Moines, this bull is balanced and pretty. He has an up-headed show-o look that should make really attractive calves that will top the market. His mother has done some great things for us including the Commander heifer that we sold last year at Red Revolution for 5700$. We reserved a ush on that heifer and by sale time, I will be able to report on her PIE Growth Fund 3036 embryos. Dino's numbers say cow bull and he should calve just ne. His mother is a light birthweight cow and Des Moines calves are moderate.

ANOTHER HEIFER BULL~!~ Pinkerton is from the same cow family as Lot #7. His mother is a long lived productive cow that had a great udder and perfect feet all the way through her productivity and she is still in production in Mike Douglass's herd. Her calves were always light birth weight. He is sired by the Tubbs bull and is perfect made and sound. Pinkerton is a 'no holes' bull with a useful future.

This big framed long strided bull is made to cover country and breed cows. He is a calving ease heifer bull with a 77 pound birth weight. His mother is one of our favorite cows and she has done an amazing job here. PIE Janet 1366 is one we depend on for frame and soundness. An interesting note about this bull's sire is how fast his calves jump and run after birth. The will to live is strong in his sire's progeny. I would guess his calves will be the same.

PROVEN HEIFER BULL ~!~ Here is a ve year old bull still sound and not too big for your heifers. If you want sleep all night calves in a bull mature enough to breed a bunch of them, here he is. His females should be the moderate kind that will stay in the herd for a long time. His mother has 14 calves on her permanent record and is bred back for another calf without special care. She has a perfect udder and beautiful, never trimmed feet. She is the great grandmother of our 12.5K yearling heifer sold last January.

Here is a set of purebred 1B heifers fully vaccinated and ready to breed. I see them as an outstanding small group of commercial heifers with registered papers. I will be happy to transfer the papers to the new owner. They are all out of good cows that have been working hard for us ~!~

We are recruiting people and cattle to our Fall bull sale at Farmers and Ranchers Livestock Sale.

The goals for us and our brand; I want our bulls to be able to walk across a bigger stage. We are working to produce cutting edge, outcross genetics and I want the world to know about them. We are at a place in our development that we can offer a few of our top shelf females. In addition I want our bull customers to have a place to market the females they are producing with our bulls.

The goals for other producers; I want to offer a limited consignment auction for Red Angus bull and female producers in our area. With more consigners we can more easily pay for DV Auction and advertising. The bigger the audience, the better our sale will be. I'm convinced that DV auction will enhance our audience exponentially. I have a heart for small producers like us that need a platform to sell their bulls and heifers. There just aren't any consignment auctions available, especially for bulls. Guest consigners will not be limited to an area. If a producer wants to sell with us, I will take them. It has been difficult to get where we are and I would like to help others succeed. With our small herd, additional consigners of high quality cattle will help us as much as it helps them. This is not a new concept. I know that established producers have shipped truck loads of bulls and heifers to help a new breeder get his sale started. If I can use what I have to help someone else, I want to and I will be actively seeking consigners of high quality seed stock to help us all. I want to accept red angus hybrid cattle in addition to purebreds. All bulls and heifers should be at least 48% Red Angus, or bred to Red Angus bulls in the case of bred heifers. The goals for the breed: It is obvious to me that the Red Angus Breed has some serious advantages and the future

will be red. Angus females have been the prefered production standard for as long as I can remember. Red Angus are more heat tolerant. Red Angus cattle are significantly more docile. Red Angus cattle grade and taste as good or better than any other breed, even black. especially when compared to those only 51% black angus. I suspect that there are other advantages that I can't prove but believe. There is a myth that at the sale barn, blacks bring more. I submit to you that cattle trade on their genetics more than their hide color. Twenty years ago I watched a ring full of top flight red angus steers top the market at Junction City Livestock. When my Dad and I switched to red in 2012 (ish), Dad's commercial black and Black white faced feeders had a habit of topping the market on Superior Livestock and his heifers brought a premium. He went from all black to one third red and finished his career selling 80% reds. His red heifers were highly sought and fiercely competed for. From his hospital bed we watched his calves sell at an all time high in 2022 on the Week in the Rockies Superior sale. When the auctioneer dropped the gavel, lightning hit a transformer and everything went black. On a personal note that was quite a fitting finale to his 70 plus years raising calves. I have seen figures that show reds outselling black on Superior going back at least 15 years. SO HERE IS MY THOUGHT. what better way to show what the red angus breed can do than to have a lights out sale in Salina, Kansas in the fall of 2026? I wouldn't be opposed to selling red angus feeder steers in our FUTURE IS RED sale if we can pull it off. I personally believe that encouraging people to switch to red is a favor to them and their profit future? ~!~

This idea is a work in progress and it will take more than me to make it work. I plan to use the advice and help of the Farmers and Ranchers staff, The Red Angus Association, and DV Auction to glue the wings on this idea. As an employee of the Red Angus Association we are always looking for new markets and ideas to not only sell and promote Red Angus and Red Angus Influenced cattle, but also to help others gain contacts within the breed. Being involved with a sale like this can ensure more eyes on your product but also open doors with contacts that may lead to greater things down the road. People buy from people. With the genetics, management, and marketing behind these great cattle I feel like events like this can be the last and possibly the most crucial step in getting your cattle into new homes. While some of these contacts made may not be in the form of purchasing your livestock, it may come in the form of comradery, feed advice, genetic perspective, the list can go on and on.
