JUST A LETTER FROM REX

The words are from S. Omar Barker's "rain on a cattle range" poem. The picture is from a Bar U dude ranch cattle drive and my message to you is that rain comes (or doesn't) when we appreciate it the least sometimes. One of our customers on that fateful 2020 cattle drive called it "miserable fun". This year we had drought, unexpected expenses, minor injury, sub zero temperatures for the rst calf born, snow storm blizzards and unbelievable mud. In other words, it's been a normal year. My bible study has been on the book of Job lately and I'm reminded that "happy ever after" is the title of a fairy tale.
Now in case you are thinking I'm discouraged, I'm not. I love this life and wouldn't trade it for anything, I look forward to next year with a passion. Planning the genetic future for our cattle and horses is what I think most about.
We have some quite unique new genetics to offer this year. Mr Tubbs has been creating excitement wherever he goes. The rst ve units of semen sold at Red Revolution for 125$ per unit. We have consigned him with "Cattle Visions" and this is our rst time in the semen business. I absolutely can't wait for his rst calf due on April 1 out of a great Roy Rogers cow. BARU ICONA is Tubb's ush mate sister. We ushed her to Berwald Con dent and LSF Identity. Austin Berwald bought 8 of those
Farmers and Ranchers sale. Those bulls look really great and will offer our customers some unique hybrid options.
In talking about our horses, good things have been happening there as well. We sold our black stud to Colette Stoudt and retained breeding rights to him for at least two years. Jamie Stover is still showing him and he recently posted 4th in the level 3 healing in Denver. That sale allowed us to invest in a new red roan stud colt named "Pepto's Stylish Ice" Get ready to see some pictures~!~ He is a big boned, big hipped beauty. We are only selling one Palomino stud colt in the May Farmers and Ranchers

sale this year and he is a "stinger" Sired by "My Lifes Delight" and out of A "Boons Smart Ae" mare that goes back to our oldest mare family that started with Hollywood Gold in the 60s. We are also growing up a bay roan lly that is reata buckle nominated. She is by "Stylin with Pepto" and our Josey mare. We are just waiting and watching to decide the best way to merchandize her. She is a recracker and will be an amazing cow horse~!~
There are many exciting things happening at the ranch and spring is just around the corner. The last stanzas of Barker's poem go like this;
Just when you have your neck all bowed to quite without a doubt
An take most any sheltered job you gure you can get
The rain just beats you to it
An the sun comes busting out
Your wet cloths start to steaming
An you notice when you pass how that week of rain has livened up the grass Ya that's how it is with cowboys when a rainy spell sets in They just hang on till its over
And there ain't no need to quit
So here is my encouragement for the day. Hang on till its over. Don't despair in doing good for you will reap a harvest if you don't lose heart. (that's in the scripture!) Enjoy the sun when it shines and come see us when you can. Hope our cattle and horses will be just what your looking for~!~

Buchman’s Stonehorse Inn
Small town with a quiet atmosphere. This inn is very spacious, with lots of character. A large front porch with a comfortable porch swing as well as a patio furniture to have your breakfast, or a glass of wine at the end of the day after hiking the tall grass prairie preserve. This house is decorated with ranch motif, and lots of pictures on the walls from all of our dude ranch events. When you walk in and shut the door you leave all your worries behind.
