FACTS & MYTHS ABOUT KIT HOMES
We’re celebrating our 26th year of helping people realise their dream homes...
Top 5 myths debunked
A kit home is exactly like any other on-site build, the only difference is the house owner gets a lot more input into the design and build of a kit home. Kit homes are growing in appeal as awareness of its benefits including design flexibility and affordability spreads. Despite this, there are still some common misconceptions of kit homes that traditional builds don’t suffer. We debunk these misconceptions with our top 5 myth-busting facts about kit homes.

Myth
“Kit homes, transportable homes and modular homes are all the same thing.”
No, kit homes are completely different. Transportable or modular homes have been either fully or partially pre-constructed off-site and then transported to site where the house sections or various module components are then fixed together. A kit home is delivered to the site as materials, which then require a builder or owner builder to construct into a home. The only sections that are made off-site in a kit home build are the frames and trusses, but this is true of any modern on-site home build. 1300 548 663 | www.kitome.com.au

Myth
“Kit homes are no more affordable than project homes.”
There are many savings to be found when choosing to build a kit home. Owner builders can save thousands of dollars if they have the time and energy to devote to building their kit home. Others save money by project managing the build by organising trades, scheduling deliveries, etc. Or if neither of those options work for your situation, you can contract a builder to run the whole project from start to finish. There are savings to be made and we can help you find those savings.
“We’ve got 25 years of experience, so if you have any questions or concerns, please ask. We’ll help find a solution and put your mind at ease.”

“Lending institutions won’t let you borrow for a kit home build.”
Well, we’re not going to start our relationship with you by lying. Unfortunately, there is some truth to this claim. Some banks choose to remain ignorant about what a kit home is and continue to confuse them with modular and transportable homes. Others are inflexible when it comes to payments schedules. As a result, they may refuse finance.

“Kit homes all look the same and they won’t let you change anything.”
It’s true, some kit home companies are very limited as far as the designs they offer and the flexibility to alter any those designs.
