This page is to provide instructions to an artist team or graphic designer on the parameters needed to stay with the guidelines of the Tippet Rise Productions stylesheet. The below info is for this example only and proper instructions would need to be created and replaced here. The below text is copied from the existing organizational style sheet. Please disregard.
Sculptures and Sculptural Structures
Please italicize sculpture names:
• A red-tail hawk swooped and soared over Beethoven’s Quartet.
When describing the sculptures, Cathy prefers:
• “Monumental” rather than “mammoth” sculptures
Ensamble Studio’s sculptures should be preceded by “the.” “The” is not italicized, nor is it capitalized, unless it falls at the beginning of a sentence or stands alone.

• the Inverted Portal
• the Portal
The audience sat in the shadow of the Domo. The Domo cast a shadow on the land.
Stephen Talasnik’s piece is always referred to as:
• Satellite #5: Pioneer
• Pioneer
• but not Satellite #5 or even Satellite
When writing about Two Discs by Alexander Calder, on loan from the Hirshhorn, please use the museum’s entire name:
• Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden
Xylem
• Please italicize the name: Xylem
• When referring to its building materials, please use “weathering” or “weathered” steel instead of just “steel”
• Instead of “Diébédo Francis Kéré,” please use “Francis Kéré”
• Cathy prefers to define Xylem as a “sculptural structure” rather than a “structure,” “building,” or even a “sculpture.”
The Olivier Music Barn
Please use “the” preceding “Olivier Music Barn.”
• Tonight’s recital will be held in the Olivier Music Barn.
• Also acceptable is, “the Music Barn.”
Please use “visitor center” (rather than “visitor’s center”)
Rather than refer to the Music Barn’s acoustics as “pristine” or “acoustically pristine,” which Cathy says implies a “dryness of sound,” please refer to the space as “acoustically enveloping.”
Cathy’s words:
In referring to the sound in the Olivier Barn there is the phrase “acoustically pristine.” As beautiful as that sounds I would have to say that our sound is perhaps better described as acoustically enveloping (to me pristine implies a certain dryness of sound, where ours is more reverberant).
When Referencing Tippet Rise Art Center
Please use, “Tippet Rise Art Center” or “Tippet Rise” or the “art center.”
Please do not refer to the art center as “Tippet” or “TR” or “TRAC.”
Using just “the art center” is fine.
When writing “the art center,” please do not capitalize “art” and “center” unless they are being used within the name, “Tippet Rise Art Center.”
Please do not use “the Tippet Rise Art Center.” We realize “the” precedes the name of many institutions, such as the Smithsonian; however, others, such as Storm King Art Center, do not use the article.
