New 65 MPH speed limit signs were recently unveiled on Route 17 at the Tioga County Rest Area in the Town of Nichols by Senator Thomas W. Libous, Senator John "Randy" Kuhl, Assembly man George Winner, and NYS Department of Transportation Regional Director Peter White.

The new speed limit is the result of legislation sponsored by Senator Libous and signed by Governor Pataki that will eventually extend the 65 MPH speed limit across all of the Southern Tier

"This is another great step in the I-86 upgrade," said Senator Libous. "We're really going to see some major positive effects on our community - increased tourism, safer travel, and all-around better economy. It really shows our commitment to enhancing the quality of life here in the Southern Tier."

The Tioga County Chamber joined Team Tioga to celebrate the Grand Opening and Ribbon-Cutting of the beautifully refurbished North Avenue building located right in downtown Owego. We are so glad to have played a part in such a wonderful milestone for Tioga County! The ribbon cutting was held on October 24.
