FALL / WINTER 2026
Moving Full Steam Ahead
MAYOR MICHAEL W. GLOTZ
It’s officially fall here in Tinley Park, and from fun things to do and experience around town, stellar Village services, fantastic local businesses, live music galore and so much more, we’re not slowing down one bit! Case in point: Harmony Square, which has already had a year jam-packed with activities that have attracted about 75,000 visitors since May, will play host to many more incredible events in the coming months. In addition to our Games in the Square on Wednesdays, Make Music Nights on Thursdays, Fall Farmers Market on Saturdays, Movies in the Square on Fridays, and the Tuesday Night Music Series, we also have Frights in the Square on Saturday, Oct. 10, the Tinley Park Boo Bash from noon to 4 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 25, the spooky Ghouls Night Out Ale Trail Trolley from 5 to 10 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 28, and the Christmas Tree-Lighting Ceremony at 6 p.m. Friday, Nov. 20. The Ice Rink Experience will of course return to Harmony Square from November to February, the very popular Holiday Happenings on Dec. 5 and 6, and the Tinley Park Chamber of Commerce’s annual Parade of Lights on Dec. 6 along Oak Park Avenue. You can learn more about these events, including the wildly popular Irish Parade and the kid-friendly Photos with the Bunny in the spring, on Pages 9 and 10 or at VisitTinleyPark.com. I hope to see all of you out and about, enjoying this wonderful town!
Recent honors Harmony Square isn’t just making waves with residents and visitors. This summer, the new plaza won the Illinois Real Estate Journal’s Government/Community Facility of the Year award. It’s a huge honor and confirmation that our vision for a firstclass downtown is right on-track, with Harmony Square at its center. Thanks to everyone who helped make our dream a reality. Speaking of awards, Tinley Park recently took first place in the Best Place to Work, Best Place to Live, Best Downtown, and Best Mayor categories in the annual Southland’s Best readers poll. Thanks to everyone who voted for us!
A ‘Platinum’ opportunity Seniors in Tinley Park have a new way to find fun things to do. The Tinley Park Platinum Club is a brand-new group exclusively for Tinley Park seniors age 55 and older. Spearheaded by Senior Program Coordinator Marie Ryan and Executive Administrative Assistant Lisa Butler, the new club has hosted numerous fun trips and classes designed specifically for seniors. I’m very proud of the work that Marie and Lisa have done so far, and the group is growing bigger by the day. If you want to join, I invite you to visit TinleyPark.org/SeniorInfo so you can start enjoying all the fun we have planned!
Business Spotlight series going strong
1
I’ve been very proud at how well-received my Business Spotlight series has been, both by residents and the establishments themselves. Last year, we began producing videos for each spotlighted business, and the response has been overwhelmingly positive. I show these videos at Village Board meetings and invite the business owners to speak afterward, and our Marketing Department shares each one on both of our YouTube channels and social media. Businesses are the backbone of any successful community, and I believe these videos are doing a wonderful job at spreading the word about all of the spectacular establishments we have in town. Learn more about the series at TinleyPark.org/BizSpotlight.
Notable projects Although there are many great projects going on in Tinley Park, I wanted to let you know about a few key ones. We’ll be welcoming New Bremen Trading Post to the vendor space facing Oak Park Avenue at Harmony Square soon, and I’m excited to see how their new business will flourish in the next few months. Construction of the new 42acre Interstate Sports Dome and associated restaurants at the former Gray Stone Golf Course site is progressing despite the severe July storms that damaged it, and it’s on-track for an opening this fall. The new Residence Inn is expected to open in December.
New solicitation rules Finally, I want to share some good news about steps we’ve taken to crack down on illegal solicitation. The Village Board passed an ordinance in July amending portions of our Village Code to add some additional requirements for anyone wishing to engage in door-to-door solicitation. The Village already required that solicitors pass a background check, obtain a permit, and receive a Villageissued ID. The new ordinance puts even more controls on this. We now require that all IDs also include a photo of the solicitor, and each approved ID is now posted on the Village website and on the Public Safety Facebook page for public inspection. The permit fee has been increased to $300 and is valid for only three months, which will require solicitors to stay current or risk losing their ability to operate in town. Police have also been instructed to fine any solicitor without valid credentials $750 for each house they visit. Many thanks to Trustee Colleen Sullivan, who suggested we move to photo IDs to help residents better identify legal solicitors. Just a reminder that if a solicitor comes to your door and does not have a Village-issued photo ID, you can report them to our non-emergency number at (708) 532-9111. You can also pick up a free “No Solicitors” sticker at Village Hall to let them know you do not want to be bothered. As always, please feel free to reach out to me at (708) 444-5000 or at mglotz@tinleypark.org with any questions or concerns. I truly love Tinley Park and all the things that make it the best town on the planet. Together we’ll forge full-steam ahead into the great future that awaits!

THE SKY’S THE LIMIT IN TINLEY PARK
VILLAGE MANAGER PAT CARR The U.S. Air Force has a longstanding motto: Aim High. As a retired Air Force Major myself, it’s a mentality that I’ve taken to heart and one that I think applies to many things in life, including managing this great community. And I’m not alone. Each and every day, all of us here at the Village – from the Mayor and Board on down to our hundreds of hardworking staff – aim high in providing Tinley Park residents, businesses, and visitors with the best quality of life possible. One of the ways we do this is by providing you with many ways to stay connected to Tinley Park. Our weekly and monthly electronic newsletters, our many social media platforms, our three websites, our two YouTube channels, and the Tinley Times you hold in your hands are all great ways to get up-to-date information on special events, construction projects, programs for seniors and veterans, safety tips, new businesses, and all sorts of other useful news from around town. More emergent situations call for a more immediate response, which is where our new Everbridge community notification system comes into play. Everbridge subscribers can get alerts in the form of texts, emails, and phone calls whenever there’s dangerous weather conditions or other emergencies in our area. Users can also sign up for non-emergency alerts such as road closures and the Tinley Park Messenger, our phone-based news delivery service that goes out every two weeks. For more information on this great new system, see the story on Page 11 or visit TinleyPark.org/StayInformed. Everbridge wasn’t the only successful launch this year. Recently we unveiled our newly redesigned municipal website. Although we retained the look and feel of the old site – why fix what isn’t broken? – we were able to upgrade and streamline a lot of features and functions to make it easier to use for both residents and the staff who manage it. I encourage everyone to check it out at TinleyPark.org and let us know what you think by sending an email to marketing@tinleypark.org.

Speaking of stellar staff, our Public Works Department did a fantastic job this past summer cleaning up after several severe storms that swept through our area. They’ll be on the streets again this winter for snow removal. Plows hit the streets after one inch of snow has accumulated, and drivers start by making two passes down the center of the street to open access to the neighborhood. After all streets are done, crews move to curb-to-curb scrapes. Keep in mind that several State and local agencies other than the Village are responsible for snow removal on some roads, such as Harlem Avenue (State), 191st Street (Will County), and 175th Street (Cook County). You can see all the jurisdictions on the Village website at TinleyPark.org/SnowPlan. As always, I’m here to listen to your concerns and hear your ideas on how we can ensure Tinley Park continues to prosper. Drop me a line at (708) 444-5000 or pcarr@tinleypark.org and let me know how we can serve you!
TINLEY PARK POLICE DEPARTMENT Congratulations to James Poortinga, who was promoted to Deputy Police Chief in June. DC Poortinga joined the Tinley Park Police Department as Division Police Commander in August 2025 and quickly became a valued member of the police leadership team. Prior to joining the Village, DC Poortinga served with the Illinois State Police for 27 years. He has a bachelor's degree in psychology and a Juris Doctor. DEPARTMENT SPOTLIGHT: Behind the scenes and teams
When people think about Village services, they often think of the people they see every day such as police officers, firefighters, and Public Works crews. But behind every event, improvement project, and service is a team of dedicated departments working together to keep Tinley Park running smoothly. From planning for the future to responding to emergencies, each department plays an important role in serving our residents, businesses and visitors. Here's a look at the teams that help make it all happen.
