Lifting Lockdown Edition
IAN COLLIER - MANAGING DIRECTOR
I think it goes without saying that none of us would have thought that over a year since packing up our bags and leaving the office, marina or park, we would still be in a state of lockdown.
But as we continue to operate in these difficult times it is testament to you all that we have managed to drive the business forward and work in an effective and positive way.
Over the past months the many projects we have ongoing throughout the business have continued. New parks and developments have opened, new marinas have been built and we have further invested in the infrastructure of the company.
So as our focus now changes to re-opening our doors and welcoming people back, we can be proud that all our hard work will stand us in good stead for the months ahead.
Once again I would like to thank you all for your continued support and look forward to seeing you again soon as we navigate our way to normality.

Future-proofing our systems
As part of our continued investment in IT infrastructure will be transferring our server management to Misco in the coming weeks. They will provide us with a new cloud based server and disaster recovery back-up system
Amounting to a £600k investment over the contractual term, the new server and recovery system will give us greater stability and security, as well as maintaining business continuity and minimising data loss.
In addition it will improve VPN access, provide a more stable connection for online payments and help future proof the company's IT systems moving forward.
Alongside the changes to the server we have also migrated our email to Microsoft 365 to further improve security and functionality.

As part of our plan to create a best-in-class offering to all of our berth holders and to provide them with an enviable experience, three state-of-the-art, fully serviced floating pontoons have been installed at the marina well ahead of schedule.
Offering an additional 54 berths the brand-new marina is now ready and waiting for the start of the boating season Further improvements to other onsite facilities are also scheduled to take place this summer.
We look forward to welcoming new berth holders into the friendly marina community this spring

MEET THE TEAM
Since joining us during lockdown Andrew Edwards and Natalie Reeder our new Group H&S and HR Managers have been somewhat scuppered in their ability to get out on site to meet you all Therefore we'd like to take this opportunity to introduce them to you
Once permitted you will no doubt see them around your places of work
TINGDENE GROUP H&S MANAGER
Andrew Edwards
What is your favourite quote?
SAFETY NEVER TAKES A HOLIDAY! ‘A spill, a slip, a hospital trip’ Doing what you like is freedom, liking what you do is happiness
What are your top three favourite films?
One of the first films I was taken to as a kid: Oliver (the musical) and for adventure – Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark. I am old enough to have seen it on the big screen when it first came out! More recently - Everest - any true, sad or inspiring story always gets to the heart.
What do you like about working for Tingdene?
May be too early to say as lockdown has meant not getting to meet and know everyone. But the people I have met so far are friendly, helpful and easy going It's good to be busy all the time, hopefully having the opportunity to make a difference
Why did you choose a career in H&S?
I sort of fell into it. Most of my job roles had some H&S aspects to it. Wasn’t until I worked overseas and was asked to fulfil a basic H&S role that I reliased I had an aptitude for it. I enjoyed the challenge then opportunities arose to reach a higher level and use my expertise. I enjoy meeting a variety of people, suppliers, managers and helping them with solutions to make things easier and safer. Still do.
What are the values that drive you? Just hard work, trying to do your best whatever the task
What is something people in H&S have to deal with that you want to fix?
Make H&S easier Cut the red tape Give people an understanding as to why rules, regulations and guidance have to be in place, so that you want to do it rather than have to.
What do you enjoy doing when you are not working?
Sleeping!! Travelling, a bit of DIY and gardening. But mostly my time, when we are not in lockdown, is spent with my children and my grandchildren trying to help them to be happy.
Do you have a hidden talent? What is it? Not as far as I can tell

MEET THE TEAM
What is your favourite quote?
My favourite quote is one I heard several years ago that has stuck with me since “Tell me and I forget. Teach me and I remember. Involve me and I learn” – Benjamin Franklin
What are your top three favourite films?
Combat Academy (1986) Happy Gilmore
Stepbrothers
What do you like about working for Tingdene?
I enjoy the variety of the different business units and managing the different business challenges faced through introducing new processes and recently changed legislation.
What are the values that drive you? Integrity and honesty. I believe in being open and respectful both inside and outside of work
Why did you choose a career in HR?
I studied Law at university and particularly enjoyed the employment law modules, as this is an area that impacts most people throughout their working lives.
Having friends and family working in HR gave me some insight into what to expect within a HR role, and I began working in HR after leaving university The continuous change in practice and legislation keeps HR interesting.
What is something people in HR have to deal with that you want to fix?
One of the biggest problems in HR in any organisation is the flow of information and under-estimating HR. In HR you’re expected to know everything even if you haven’t been told about it. You’re often not given the information that you need to be able to advise and guide until after something has already happened. Typically HR only find out about something when it’s gone wrong, which is detrimental to any business
What do you enjoy doing when you are not working?
I have a new puppy and spend a lot of my time training her. I’m looking forward to taking her out for walks when she’s had all of her injections
I like to make things whether this be sewing, knitting, painting or building something, and I usually enjoy skiing a few times a year
Do you have a hidden talent? What is it?
It’s not particularly a talent, but I have doublejointed thumbs so I can move and bend them around in all sorts of different ways.
