It is this time of the year, that we are acting. The script on paper is alive on stage. After so many lessons, improvisations and rehearsals it is our moment to show our work and yours to enjoy. Theodore was born in Athens, and he decided to be an actor from his early childhood. The dream came true and after so many years in Greece, participating in many theatrical plays, tv series, films, and performances such as The Closing Ceremony of the Olympic Games of 2004 in Athens, he decided to take the next step crossing the Atlantic. Almost since the beginning of his staying in New York, he started collaborating with Academy of Hellenic Paideia, directing the ΠΑΙΔΙΚΟ ΘΕΑΤΡΙΚΟ ΕΡΓΑΣΤΗΡΙ. The last three years, Theodore has the pleasure of directing the “Logos & Praxi”, Acting Workshop for Adults. After last year’s “Γυναίκες Δολοφόνοι” he is proud for this new production of Academy’s named “Μια Θεότρελη Διάσωση”. The Greek-American Folklore Society is dedicated to the study, preservation and instruction of the history and tra ditions of Hellenic folk culture. They share their work with the public through stage re-enactments of traditional Greek customs, songs and dances, as well as through lectures, exhibits and workshops. GAFS was founded in 1983 by Apostolos “Paul” Ginis as a non-profit organization. Within a few years, GAFS became one of the most respected Greek Folklore organizations in North America. Mr. Ginis himself quickly became a recog nized authority on Greek folklore and was often invited to teach, lecture and collaborate, not only within the US and Canada, but also in Greece, in such prestigious places as the Lykeion ton Hellenidon (Lyceum of Greek Women), the “Dora Stratou” Theater, the Society for the Dissemination of National Music etc.

Since Paul Ginis’ untimely passing in 1997 GAFS has been located in Astoria and directed by his sister Vaia Allagiannis. The Society’s activities encompass a wide variety of folk art traditions from all regions and islands of Greece, in addition to the communities of the Greek Diaspora past and present. The primary focus is on Demotic folk songs and dances, as these reveal both the spirit and materiality of their respec tive cultures of origin. In the lyrics, music and ritualized motion of Greek folk traditions, we see reflections of a people’s history, spirituality and world-view. We discern aesthetic ideals which defined Greek communities of past generations. For more information, please visit: www.greekamericanfolkloresociety.org
