JUNE 4th-28th Opening Reception: Tuesday June 4th, 2019, 6-8pm Curated by the distinguished artist Antonia Papatzanaki

Consulate General of Greece in New York 69 East 79th Street, New York, NY 10075

Timarete Hellenic Art Festival and the Consulate General of Greece in New York are pleased to announce Inside, Outside, and Beyond, a group exhibition that explores diverse manifestations of interiority and exteriority in space and time. The show is curated by the distinguished artist Antonia Papatzanaki. The exhibition will run from June 4 28, 2019 with an Opening Reception on Tuesday, June 4th, 2019, from 6-8:00 p.m. at Consulate’s premises. Offering a unique and rare opportunity to see the work of a large number of living artists of the Greek diaspora, the exhibition brings together over 25 artworks in a variety of mediums by accomplished, established, and internationally known Greek and Greek-American artists residing in the New York and Tri-State area. Inside, Outside, and Beyond explores interiority set against exteriority, spaces outside or beyond what is expected or internalized, concepts and imagery prompting the artists’ most urgent questions regarding place and time. The exhibition includes drawings, paintings, mixed media art, prints, and sculpture in a rich array of materials. Traditional oil, acrylic, and graphite move beyond conventional uses. Printing embodies the manipulation of images through the use of diverse technologies that result in a printed image on aluminum or paper, and in some cases, includes an added layer of hand drawing revealing a long artistic process. Paper folds into book pages and serves as the material for collage; fabric embodies poetry and a sense of space and time; the political and personal stream out of an emergency heat blanket and images of colorful displaced cloth. The show itself is situated in multiple conceptual locations as it moves among and beyond the smallest particles to whole, imagined worlds via plastic, clay, and mirrors. Feelings and relationships are further probed in leather, copper wire, metal, and even ping pong balls and cardboard, where they are literally contained and dismantled. The past is dynamically projected into the present and beyond, where the viewer is enabled to gaze from multiple positions at our ever-changing moment. Participating Artists include Eozen Agopian, Maria Anasazi, Elaine Angelopoulos, Laura Dodson, Angie Drakopoulos, Peter Gerakaris, Cris Gianakos, Morfy Gikas, Mark Hadjipateras, Maria Karametou, Zoe Keramea, Georgia Lale, Eirini Linardaki, Aristides Logothetis, Despo Magoni, Demetrius Manouselis, Jenny Marketou, Eleni Mylonas, Antonia Papatzanaki, Costas Picadas, Panayiotis Terzis, Lydia Venieri, and Adonis Volanakis. The exhibition is held as part of the 4th Timarete

DANCE ADULTS AND KIDS DANCE TROUPES OF ACADEMY OF HELLENIC PAIDEIA The Dance Troupes of the Academy of Hellenic Paideia started in 2015 under the direction of Angela Kourtzoglou surrounded by a great group of kids, parents, teachers and friends of Academy. It’s members/students had the privilege to enjoy learning in the next years with Maria Mezaris, Roula Zogopoulos and Haralambos Petsiavas. Now, the Adult Dance Group under the direction of Georgia Fiotodimitrakis, and the Kids Dance Groups under the direction of Irene Constantinou (instructor of the Kids Performance Group) and Maria Panikidis (Dance Teacher at Academy), continue with the same love and passion that they started in highly maintaining and promoting our rich culture through our traditional dances from all parts of our beloved motherland.

GREEK AMERICAN FOLKLORE SOCIETY The Greek-American Folklore Society is dedicated to the study, preservation and instruction of the history and traditions of Hellenic folk culture. They share their work with the public through stage re-enactments of traditional Greek customs, songs and dances, as well as through lectures, exhibits and workshops. GAFS was founded in 1983 by Apostolos “Paul” Ginis as a non-profit organization. Within a few years, GAFS became one of the most respected Greek Folklore organizations in North America. Mr. Ginis himself quickly became a recognized authority on Greek folklore and was often invited to teach, lecture and collaborate, not only within the US and Canada, but also in Greece, in such prestigious places as the Lykeion ton Hellenidon (Lyceum of Greek Women), the “Dora Stratou” Theater, the Society for the Dissemination of National Music etc. Since Paul Ginis’ untimely passing in 1997 GAFS has been located in Astoria and directed by his sister Vaia Allagiannis. The Society’s activities encompass a wide variety of folk art traditions from all regions and islands of Greece, in addition to the communities of the Greek Diaspora past and present. The primary focus is on Demotic folk songs and dances, as these reveal both the spirit and materiality of their respective cultures of origin. In the lyrics, music and ritualized motion of Greek folk traditions, we see reflections of a people’s history, spirituality and world-view. We discern aesthetic ideals which defined Greek communities of past generations. For more information, please visit: www.greekamericanfolkloresociety.org 22 |

Ereikoussa DANCE GROUP has been established in 2011 and is dedicated in teaching and promoting traditional dances from all regions of Greece. All the members of the dance group are volunteers, passionate for our rich tradition and culture. The Adults Dance Troupe as well as the Kids Dance Troupe of Ereikoussa DANCE GROUP proudly perform in various national and cultural events throughout the year with their beautiful traditional outfits.

ARCADIAN DANCERS OF “GEROS TOY MOREA” The Arcadian Dancers of GEROS TOY MOREA is a team of passionate dancers, led by Demetrios Valkanas, a legend known throughout the metropolitan area for his dancing skills of the traditional dances. He grew up as a child in Astoria with Arcadians, holding on to all the Peloponnesian traditions. We had the priviledge of enjoying this great dance group in our 1st Timarete Festival on June 2016, where Demetrios Valkanas astounded all with his dancing of the traditional tsamiko, the dance of the kleftes.
