We are coming up on the last few weeks of school. Thank you for reading The NewGate Gazette. It means a lot to our team that you care about our community. This month we have some fun and exciting activities planned.

The Arts

by Laney Leichter

During the month of April, the county holds two major community events; “Embracing Our Differences” and the Sarasota Film Festival. The two bring people from all around to see the creation of documentaries and art. Even though they both fall under the Arts category, the two are different, yet the same in some points. At “Embracing Our Differences”, visitors are able to walk around and look at the different art pieces that are created from students around the county, which also have quotes from students. At the film festival, you don’t have as much choice. You choose a film, go to the appropriate viewing room, and you may or may not end up liking the film. In addition, the film that you are seeing might not even be your first choice. Usually, students attend as part of a school group or a parental trip. Both events may not be something you want to do, but what you could do is try to find a positive outlook towards these cultural events. These events are fun in themselves and you just have to look for the positive because by going, not only are you supporting the arts but you’re also getting a cultural education. The exposure to the arts you get from taking the time to see the films and learning where the drawings come from, are valuable experiences that teenagers don’t always appreciate until they are older. So do more research if these events interest you. NewGate Gazette
