A
perspective
avoids wedding Day Disasters
Every bride dreams of having the perfect wedding. However, it is not unusual for the bride’s special day to be visited by at least one or two wedding disasters.
There will always be small hiccups along the road but with sufficient planning and a shift in perspective you will be able to relax and actually enjoy marrying the person you love. Proper wedding planning and simple changes in your priorities will help to avoid disasters on your most special day. These simple tips will help realize a memorable wedding day.
Delegation
Planning a wedding is one half dream realization and one half delegation. Proper division of labor for your wedding day plans can result in a fabulous wedding. 1) You can’t do it all by yourself and, 2) You can’t heap all the responsibilities onto just one or two friends or relatives. Form a team of reliable people to arrange for and/or follow up on each of the wedding elements such as catering, favors, photography, social media, music, etc. Each wedding will have its own list so be sure it’s complete. Then sit down with the person responsible and discuss in detail what you want or have made arrangements for so they know what you expect including cost. Have follow up meetings on a regular basis.
Disasters and Memorable Events
A change in your priorities or a shift in your perspective will improve your entire wedding day experience. The ability to be flexible no matter what happens will not make you less joyful if you allow your flower girl to change into dry clothes after her “accident” and watching your about-to-be husband stumble as he recites his wedding vows shows how much the day also means to him. Your wedding day will go from a storybook fantasy in your mind to the reality of a memorable event. These changes in perspective are a part of transforming your day into an honest celebration of love, family, friends, and the future as it creates a whole new attitude for the wedding and the marriage to follow.
Allow yourself an ideal day and let the responsibility for what is happening that day fall on others. If your emotional attitude is calm, joyful and life affirming, the physical experience of those around you will be likewise.
Anything can happen on a wedding day. The flower girl or ring bearer might wet their pants, the groom or one of the wedding party might faint or forget where the church is and what time he or she is supposed to be there. Weddings are important events in one’s life making it difficult to accept things that don’t happen as we imagined. Just remember, each wedding is unique and memorable. What seems to be tragedy today may be something you will be laughing at as you recall that “Special” day in all the years to come. Treating these potential disasters with equanimity requires a special mind set.
A Change in Perspective
Focus on what is most vital to us. Why we are going through with this highly expensive and emotionally taxing endeavor? How we can make sure we enjoy our own wedding day? For all the money, time, energy, and thought that we put into a wedding, many couples find that they either barely remember the day, or didn’t have time to enjoy it. Allow yourself an ideal day and let the responsibility for what is happening that day fall on others. If your emotional attitude is calm, joyful and life affirming, the physical experience of those around you will be likewise. 6

Golf wedding locations
for that special day By: Susan Slobac
There are reasons that golf course wedding locations are so popular. They are the reasons that you will want to reserve your golf club wedding venue well in advance, particularly for a summer wedding. There are reasons that golf course wedding locations are so popular. They are the reasons that you will want to reserve your golf club wedding venue well in advance, particularly for a summer wedding. If you belong to a country club already, then most of the decision is already made for you. Such golf wedding locations frequently offer discounts to their paid members when it comes to events such as weddings.
Country Clubs often offer discounts to their paid members.
One of the main advantages to weddings at golf courses is that in most cases, country clubs have fine dining and food service facilities right there on the premises, meaning one less thing that you’ll need to worry about. On golf courses, weddings are not an infrequent event, so these professionals are always ready to provide a buffet or a more formal sit-down dinner for the reception. And of course, every golf club wedding venue generally has a bar, so when it comes to alcoholic beverages, they have you covered there as well. Even at golf courses, weddings need entertainers. Now, we don’t know of any golf wedding locations that actually have entertainers on staff, but chances are very good that the management can certainly recommend local bands, disc jockeys or singers, and instrumentalists that you may wish to hire. On golf course facilities, events are frequent and the entertainers who pass through will usually have a relationship with the management. You might also ask about who last held a wedding on their golf course facilities and find out who they hired if you don’t have any one in mind. One of the best parts of golf wedding locations is that they offer very beautiful, open scenic locations. You’ll find an abundance of areas for taking your wedding photos in groups and for the bride and groom. Consider your local country club of golf facility for your wedding and/or reception. It may just prove to be the easiest way to make that memorable day even more special.

wedding guests Every wedding planning checklist has the wedding guest list as one of the first things to start. However, the “list finalization” comes much later. You have many decisions you will be making on other items that relate directly to the guest list.
Who to Invite, H
The size of the guest list impacts: 1) Where you have your ceremony and the wedding reception 2) How many tables you need (and the decor on the tables) 3) How many settings you need (per costs) 4) How many wedding favors you order All of these items determine most of the cost of your wedding. After you decide on a realistic budget, you realize that the 500 guests on your initial list (You haven’t ordered and sent the invitations as yet) can be no more than 200. Now comes crunch time; who is going to be part of your big day? How much say should your parents have on inviting people? Does this relate to who is paying for the wedding and are there other factors that require consideration?
TIP: Divide up the guest list evenly by bride, groom, and parents. Everyone then gets to decide within the number of allotted invitations.

It can mean that one person gets to invite all their family, friends and former coworkers while the other person has to slice up their family and has no room for anyone else. It doesn’t acknowledge the “non-negotiable” who need to be invited and makes every person of equal value within the allotted spaces. It can cause problems when you can’t invite people because of space and money issues and another group invites a business associate or neighbor they barely know but vii ʼà V > ÞÊ L }>Ìi`½Ê ÀÊ ÕÃÌÊÌ Êw ÊÕ«ÊÌ i ÀÊ> ÌÌi`Êë>Við

Have a fun special day and a great life. Invite people you have seen in the last year. This keeps you from inviting people who might not want to go to your wedding anyway and reduce large numbers of people in one swipe. However, we may see the least important people in our lives almost daily and not our out of town friends and family that are really important to us.

bridal showers
By Glenna Tooman
Planning a shower can be stressful, but it doesn’t have to be. Following is a list of etiquette issues that you and the shower hostess will want to consider. Showers should not be hosted by the bride, her mother, or the Ì iÀÊ vÊ Ì iÊ }À °Ê ,>Ì iÀ]Ê > Ì iÀÊ Ài >Ì Ûi]Ê >Ê V ÃiÊ vÀ i `]Ê >Ê co-worker, or a member of your wedding party should act as hostess. The maid of honor does not have to be the hostess if she doesn’t live in the area or it would be difficult for her to have a shower. It’s okay to have more than one shower or no shower at all. Don’t invite the same guests to multiple showers except for the mothers, the maid/matron of honor, and bridesmaids if they live nearby. When mothers and bridal attendants are invited to multiple showers, they don’t need to bring a gift to each one.
If more than one shower will be held where the couple lives, they should be held before the wedding. If the bride or groom’s family lives in another city or state, a shower can be held there also. Have someone write down information about the gifts and the names of the givers as you open your packages. If possible, send out written thank you notes before the wedding so you aren’t swamped later. Do plan entertainment for the shower. It could be games or some other activity of the hostess’s choosing, such as a luncheon or a tea. Inviting guests to come, then simply opening gifts and serving dessert could be perceived as a blatant request for gifts.
Do not invite people to a shower that are not invited to the wedding or to the reception. Invite only your closer friends and family to showers. It is best to issue invitations in writing to family and close friends. It is acceptable for a shower hostess to mention your registry/registries in the shower invitation.

BRIDESMAIDS Luncheons Bridesmaids’ luncheons are a great way to thank the Bridal party, since bridesmaids are often scattered across the country and may not arrive in town until a day or two before the wedding its good to plan the luncheon far in advance of the wedding and pick the date best for the everyone involved. Popular times for bridesmaids luncheons are after the final dress fittings and the day before the wedding. The purpose of the luncheon is for the bride to thank her attendants and includes presenting them with their bridesmaid gifts. The cake frequently contains good luck charms. If you have a luncheon, it can be hosted by either the bride in honor of the bridesmaids, or by the bridesmaids in honor of the bride. The event is often multi-generational including mothers and even grandmothers of the bride and groom. The bride, bridesmaids, maid of honor, and mothers should be invited, as well as junior bridesmaids and flower girl with her mother if you have them. If the bride is hosting the luncheon, she should give her gifts to her attendants at this time. She should also verbally thank her attendants for being part of the wedding and thank the mothers and other appropriate guests for their contributions.

BACHELOR
bachelorette parties By Glenna Tooman
Bachelor and bachelorette parties are common, and can be controversial. If you have one, it should be something that you can look back on without embarrassment; something that you won’t be ashamed to talk about with your grandmother. Following are some general guidelines for having a fun and wholesome event. UÊ ½ÌÊ `ÊÌ iÊ«>ÀÌ iÃÊÌ iÊ } ÌÊLiv ÀiÊÌ iÊÜi`` }ÊÕ iÃÃÊÌ iÞÊ>ÀiÊà ÀÌ]ÊµÕ iÌÊiÛi ÌÃ°Ê vÊÌ iÊLÀ `i]Ê}À ]Ê> `Ê i LiÀÃÊ vÊÌ iÊ wedding party are to be alert for the wedding, drinking alcohol the night before the wedding should be limited. Optimally, the parties should be held about a week before the wedding. UÊ" ÞÊV ÃiÊvÀ i `ÃÊ> `ÊÀi >Ì ÛiÃÊ vÊÌ iÊV Õ« iÊÃ Õ `ÊLiÊ Û Ìi`]Ê V Õ` }Ê«>Ài ÌÃÊ> `Êà L }Ã°Ê iÊÃÕÀiÊÌ >ÌÊ Ê iÊ ÃÊ Û Ìi`ÊÌ Ê the party who hasn’t been invited to the wedding. Like a shower, this is a party for very close friends and family, not casual acquaintances. The guest list is usually much smaller than one for a shower. Better to be safe than sorry. Whatever you do, don’t iÌÊÌ iÊ«>ÀÌÞÊ}iÌÊ ÕÌÊ vÊ > `°Ê9 ÕÊ` ½ÌÊÜ> ÌÊÌ ÊÀÕ ÊÞ ÕÀÊÜi`` }ÊLÞÊ >Û }Ê>Ê > ÀÊ>À}Õ i ÌÊÜ Ì ÊÞ ÕÀÊw> VjÉw> VjiÊ ÛiÀÊÞ ÕÀÊ bachelor/bachelorette party. Suggestions for bachelorette parties include an evening at a spa; a pajama party; a pizza party, golfing or white water rafting, or watching old movies, such as the original “Father of the Bride” with Elizabeth Taylor.
Suggestions for bachelor parties include a fishing trip, rafting trip, attending a sporting event, playing golf, laser tag, or a visit to a paint ball center. Many men choose to simply party at their favorite bar.

Do I really need Save the Date Cards? It’s just another expense. My response to this question usually goes something like‌ Either you would like to do all you can to assist the people you’ve invited to your wedding in attending or you should take them off the guest list if it doesn’t matter. Look at it this way. You have spent the last twelve or so months of your life consumed with the planning of every intricate detail of this day, don’t you want those people you invite to show? Believe it or not everyone has things going on in their lives: birthdays, vacations, anniversaries, graduations etc. The more lead time they have in knowing of your event the more leeway they have in keeping the date clear of other engagements. It is not imperative that you have engraved Save the Date announce“iÂ˜ĂŒĂƒĂŠÂŤĂ€ÂˆÂ˜ĂŒi`°Ê1ĂƒiĂŠĂƒÂœÂ“iĂŠVĂ€i>ĂŒÂˆĂ›ÂˆĂŒĂžĂŠ and you can save some dollars while your guests “save the date.â€? Think about magnets that can be imprinted, postcards can easily be created or if the timing is right add a special note in with your Christmas cards. It couldn’t be simpler. But do keep in mind that you are setting the stage for your event. You might not want a hand scrawled note if you are having a vÂœĂ€Â“>Â?ĂŠ>vv>ÂˆĂ€ĂŠ>ĂŒĂŠĂŒÂ…iĂŠ,ÂˆĂŒĂ˘ĂŠ >Ă€Â?ĂŒÂœÂ˜Â°
Wording is also simple, if you are going the formal route try this: “ Please save the date of Saturday the Twenty-Second of Ă•}Ă•ĂƒĂŒĂŠvÂœĂ€ĂŠĂŒÂ…iĂŠĂœi``ˆ˜}ĂŠvÂœĂ€ĂŠ ÂˆĂƒĂƒĂŠ >˜ˆiĂŠ ÂœĂ€Âˆ}Â…ĂŒĂŠ>˜`ĂŠ À°Ê Ă€Â˜ÂœÂ?`ĂŠ Ă€ÂˆĂƒĂƒÂœÂ“Â°ĂŠ ˜VÂ?Ă•`iĂŠĂŒÂ…iĂŠÂ˜>“iĂƒĂŠÂœvĂŠ the host and “Invitation to followâ€? at the bottom. For a less formal event inject some of your personality try: “Sarah and Luke are tying the knot, Save the Date ĂƒÂœĂŠĂŒÂ…>ĂŒĂŠĂžÂœĂ•ĂŠV>Â˜ĂŠÂ?ÂœÂˆÂ˜ĂŠĂ•ĂƒtÂť Keep in mind that all you want your guests to do at this point is save the date. Don’t give away all the plans you’ve made. Also, don’t expect a response. Your responses will come on that pretty little postage paid response card you’ve had printed.
Save the Date cards are typically sent out four months prior to your wedding date. This will give guests >ĂŠĂŒĂœÂœÂ‡Â“ÂœÂ˜ĂŒÂ…ĂŠÂşÂ…i>`ĂƒĂŠqÊՍÊLivÂœĂ€iĂŠ your invitations arrive. Include the date of your event and the location. If photo by: Neil Simmons

the beach wedding
Luau Style
A wedding is one of the most memorable days you will have in your lifetime. Today many couples are choosing to have their weddings in exotic locations.
These exotic locations include breathtaking, natural settings that a beach offers. One of the most romantic is the Luau theme. Here are some of the main essentials for a Wedding Luau. The Luau may feature food such as chicken, pork, poi, salmon, tropical fruits, taro chips and beer. Entertainment includes traditional Hawaiian music with the ukulele, drums and the hula. The main dish of the Luau is traditionally made of chicken baked in coconut milk. An important part of a luau is also the lei. It is traditional for the women to wear a lei of flowers and the men to wear a lei of beads. Here are some ideas you can incorporate in your planning that can make your Luau wedding an unforgettable experience:

TRANSPORTATION You’re going to the chapel... but how are you to get there? What about your wedding party, or your guests? Will you be riding in a silver Rolls-Royce, a party bus, a horse & carriage, or a bicycle built for two? Whether it’s a unique way to arrive at or leave the reception, or a fun way to transport the wedding party or guests, here are ideas for your wedding wheels. Sports Cars
For thrill-seeking couples looking for an edgier ride, two-seater sports cars for special occasions are all the rage. 7 iÌ iÀÊ Ì½ÃÊ>Ê iÀÀ>À ]Ê > v À >]Ê iÀVi`iÃÊ i âÊ- -Ê Ê, >`ÃÌiÀ]Ê* ÀV iÊ ÝÌiÀ]Ê >ÃiÀ>Ì Ê ÀÊ > L À} ]ÊÌ iÃiÊ ultra-exotic specialty vehicles will get you to the reception in a flash or will have you speeding into the twilight on the way to your honeymoon. They come in daring hues like red or green or yellow, so you can wedding colors when renting. Before jumping behind the wheel (rather than hiring a driver), check on all liability issues and take it for a spin to make sure you are familiar with all its exotic options. Also you’ll probably need to rehearse your exit ahead of time—getting out of one of these exotics gracefully requires skill, especially for the bride in a wedding dress.
Water Ways
If you’re celebrating by a lake or ocean, make your escape in a sleek speedboat or yacht while your guests wave you off from the shore. For a more casual affair,

Channel your inner Brit and rent a double-decker bus from a local touring company. Or, if its not too far, a yellow school bus holds 40 to 50 passengers or transport your guests in vintage trolleys. Just be mindful that trolleys and school buses are only comfortable for short distances, so make sure your trip is a brief one.

Dressing Your Bridesmaids For a bride, shopping for bridesmaid dresses can be one of the most difficult aspects of wedding planning. How can the bride find a gown for her maids that will display her own taste, look great on every girl and will fit into the financial picture? There are so many colors and styles of dresses to choose from. The bridesmaids themselves may vary greatly in size and they want a flatteringly gown that makes them feel good. The bride and her bridesmaids may be in their mid-20s or older and want a more sophisticated look in the bridesmaids gown. The bride also has the task of choosing a dress that will look good with each girls skin tone, hair color and figure. Choosing the right gown can be a challenge, but it’s not impossible. The bride should start the decision process early. It’s ideal to actually place the order for the gowns about four months before the wedding. This will allow time for alterations, shopping for shoes and other accessories and leave time to dye the shoes to match the gown. The bride will find it most helpful to shop with the one brides-

maid whose fashion sense she shares. The ultimate decision about the perfect bridesmaid gown will be the brides. The first step to choosing a bridesmaid gown is to determine the formality, style and fabric of the wedding gown. The bridesmaid dresses shouldn’t overpower or clash with the wedding gown. For todays more simple bridal styles, nice detailing in the maids gowns creates a good look for the group. Back accents like straps, halter-tops and simple beading are important for ceremony photography. A quality gown of good fabric and construction is necessary for the active bridesmaids who will be walking, dancing or running errands. Who needs to worry about seams splitting apart or buttons falling off during the wedding?

The
Proposal Make it Fun, Romantic & Memorable
> ÞÊÜ i ÊV> Êw `Ê >ÀÀ >}iÊ«À « Ã> ÃÊ >`iÊ ÛiÀÊ` iÀÊ ÛiÀÞÊÀ > Ì VÊLÕÌÊ ÌÊ iViÃÃ>À ÞÊVÀi>Ì Ûi°Ê,iÃi>ÀV iÃÊv Õ `Ê that many married women believed that their husbands spent a lot of money on their wedding proposal, but not proposing in a creative way left them disappointed. Following are some ideas to help you propose using creative ways. For couples involved in a long distance relationship a creative way to propose is to plan a surprise visit. You can ask a friend to give your girlfriend instructions for a scavenger hunt. Hide small surprises along the way such as flowers, candy and a CD. Then hide at the final location ready to propose once your girlfriend arrives. A proposal involving a camping trip could be a good idea. Plan a quiet trip for you and your girlfriend; hide the ring in your sleeping bag to use it easily when making the proposal. When it is time to sleep, you may take out the ring and propose. This idea is original because camping trip is not a usual place for proposals. Have you ever thought about placing an ad in a local newspaper like the Aptos Times? This is a fun way to propose. You could even write in the ad that if anyone is willing to marry you to call Þ Õ]Ê> `Ê V Õ`iÊ>ÊwVÌ Ì ÕÃÊ« iÊ Õ LiÀ°Ê,i>`ÊÌ iÊ>`ÊÜ Ì Ê your girlfriend and pull out the ring while saying that you would love to marry her. How about proposing during a sport event? Arrange to broadcast your proposal over the public sound system or to display it on the large screen. If you are thinking adventurous, contact the public relations department and arrange to make your proposal on the field at halftime. They might be able to arrange a certain scenario for you to win a prize, and then while you are on the field can make your proposal over the microphone. One more idea to propose in a creative way is to post your proposal on facebook or tweet it and wait for the comments to roll in from friends and family and get everyone to wait for the most important one…her saying YES. c o a s t a l we d d i n g . c o m
Proposing over the airwaves is another fun way to propose as well. If your girlfriend has a favorite radio station, arrange for the DJ of the program to ask her if she will marry you. Know the exact time the DJ will be sending your message so the two of you are together listening. You may also ask the DJ to play a special song after the announcement to enjoy a dance with your bride to be after she says Yes. Still another creative way is to invite all of your family and friends for a surprise party. Tell your girlfriend that you want to have a quiet dinner for the two of you. Once you arrive all of the guests will appear and you could seize the opportunity then to propose. 7 Ì ÊÌ ÃÊ «Ì ÊÞ ÕÊ >ÞÊÜ> ÌÊÌ ÊLiÊViÀÌ> ÊÃ i½ ÊÃ>ÞÊ9 -t How about this proposal idea? Pretend to have a blocked sink while your girlfriend is nearby. Hide the ring in the sink and act as you are working to fix it. Pull out the engagement ring from the sink and say something like “Of course the sink is clogged, I need another place to keep this ring at, what about your finger?” Proposing over dinner can also be a nice approach. Drop hints that you would be proposing and she will be expecting it with each course. Finally tell her that you need to ask her a very important question, and then ask about something totally irrelevant. She may get angry at the beginning but it won’t last when the waiter brings the bill along with the ring. A final creative idea is for the women to propose to the man to marry her instead of waiting for him to pop the question. Add your creative touch and make sure the proposal is romantic and original. Both of you will remember this moment for the rest of your lives. By the way check out our contest

The next step for most brides is choosing the gown color. Looking at bridesmaid swatches in the bridal shop can do this. ÃÌÊ > Õv>VÌÕÀiÀÃÊ > iÊ LÀ `ià > `ÃÊ dresses in anywhere from a few colors to as many as fifty. Choosing the actual color will narrow the choice of gowns to a more manageable number. The bride must then consider the size ranges and figure types of her maids. ÃÌÊLÀ `> Ê«>ÀÌ iÃÊ >ÛiÊ> Ê>ÛiÀ>}iÊ vÊÌÜ Ê full-figured members. If this is the case, many times its best to begin choosing a gown style with the larger maids in mind. Some larger girls feel comfortable in spaghetti straps or even strapless gowns, but many would rather have at least a short sleeve or perhaps a shawl. The smaller girls can usually wear any style. A-line styles look good on most everyone. A two-piece style with a longer top covering the hipbone is another good style. Almost 50% of wedding parties will include a pregnant bridesmaid. Extra fabric can be ordered to create a maternity side panel. A few designers are now creating maternity bridesmaids.
A new marketing trend for bridesmaids is Ì iÊ `i>Ê vÊÃi«>À>ÌiÃ°Ê ÃÌÊ > Õv>VÌÕÀiÃÊ now feature at least some of their styles in separate tops and skirts. Separates offer some flexibility for the maids as they are able to choose different sizes for the top and skirt and can accommodate many different figures types. The bride can also choose the color and manufacturer of the separates while letting the maids have the freedom to create a style they will be comfortable in. In these sensitive economic times, many gown manufacturers are adjusting their prices to meet everyone’s financial needs. > ÞÊ `ià } iÀÃÊ >ÛiÊ ÜiÀi`Ê Ì i ÀÊ «À Ves with no reduction in the quality of the garments. This year’s selection of gowns should meet the approval of everyone in the wedding party. The bride may save time by doing her preliminary shopping online. She can narrow her choices and email styles she likes to her maids. Shopping on the Internet may be the most logical choice for some brides when her maids live in different parts of

the country. Online ordering entails the maids obtaining their own measurements and alterations, which must be done correctly for the best fit. Be sure to order very early to allow extra time for shipping the gowns. The bridesmaid look is not complete without shoes and accessories. Shoes are available in many styles in fabrics which can be custom dyed to match the gown. Also popular are the clear vinyl shoes in strappy sandals some with changeable colored ribbon straps. One shoe company is now producing 100% silk shoes with leather soles in colorfast fabrics available in 9 styles in 15 colors that can be special ordered for delivery in about one week. >ÌV }Ê ÜÀ ÃÌÊ ÀÊ i L ÜÊ } ÛiÃÊ vviÀÃÊ >Ê sophisticated look. A simple rhinestone or pearl necklace and earring set will enhance the look of your maids. With all the choices in bridesmaid gowns available today, every member of the wedding party should be happy with the final results and will spend the wedding day celebrating with the bride and her groom.
