President’s Message: On behalf of the 14th District Agricultural Association Board of Directors, it is my pleasure to welcome you to the 2026 Santa Cruz County Fair! This year’s theme, “Apple Pies and Starry Skies”, celebrates the traditions that have brought our community together for generations. Inspired by the historic apple orchards that have shaped the Pajaro Valley since the 1850s and the clear evening skies that stretch above our fairgrounds, this year’s theme is a tribute to the people, places, and heritage that make Santa Cruz County unique. A visit to the Fair is a chance to experience the sights, sounds, and flavors that bring our community together. Watch the next generation of exhibitors showcase their hard work in the livestock arenas and horse shows, enjoy creative exhibits and live entertainment throughout the grounds, connect with our agricultural roots at Yesterday’s Farm, and savor all the delicious Fair favorites you look forward to each year. As the sun goes down, keep the excitement going with the Monster Truck show on Wednesday and Thursday nights, or gather beneath the starry skies for our spectacular drone show Friday through Sunday. The Santa Cruz County Fair has always been more than a celebration; it’s a place where community, education, and agriculture come together. El tema de este año, “Pasteles de Manzana y Cielos Estrellados”, celebra las tradiciones que han unido a nuestra comunidad durante generaciones. Inspirado en los históricos huertos de manzanas que han dado forma al Valle de Pajaro desde la década de 1850 y en los cielos despejados que se extienden al atardecer sobre nuestro recinto ferial, el tema de este año es un homenaje a las personas, los lugares y la herencia que hacen único al Condado de Santa Cruz. Una visita a la Feria es una oportunidad para experimentar las imágenes, los sonidos y los sabores que unen a nuestra comunidad. ALTERNATE ROUTES TO THE FAIR Normally Airport Boulevard, Holohan Road and Highway 152 handle the cars and farm trucks pretty well. But when your favorite travel app warns of heavy traffic on the most popular routes to the Fairgrounds, you’ll be glad you grabbed the attached map.

Freedom Boulevard to Corralitos Road. Right on Varni to Pioneer Road to Green Valley Road, left on Casserly and right on Highway 152. Highway 101 to Highway 129 west, right on Blackburn, right on East Lake (Hwy 152). Highway 101 to Highway 152 west.

Use it to find a road less traveled. It isn’t necessarily shorter in distance but may be quicker in time. At the very least following roads with names like Casserly and Carlton will certainly take you through some beautiful country. Even though you might have to share the road with many your friends and neighbors, the 2026 Santa Cruz County Fair is worth the trip. Leave plenty of time for your trip as traffic always builds at fair time! RUTAS ALTERNATIVAS A LA FERIA Normalmente, Airport Boulevard, Holohan Road y la autopista 152 tienen buena circulación para autos y camiones agrícolas. As I begin my second year as Fair Manager, it has become abundantly clear that this is truly a place where traditions are celebrated, new memories are made, and neighbors from near and far come together. For generations, the Santa Cruz County Fair has brought our community together to celebrate agriculture, craftsmanship, creativity, and the spirit that makes our county so special. It is an honor to help carry that tradition forward. This year's theme, "Apple Pies and Starry Skies" captures everything we love about the county fair. It celebrates the Pajaro Valley's historic apple industry while reminding us that our beautiful starry skies connect us to something even bigger. From the aroma of fresh-baked treats and your favorite fair foods to the excitement of the carnival, the pride of our youth exhibitors, live entertainment, and evenings spent under the stars, there's something here for everyone. As you explore the fair, take time to experience all it has to offer—from exhibits showcasing local agriculture, animals, art, and craftsmanship to competitions, music, delicious food, and family fun. Apple Pie Competition It’s a delicious competition that’s as American as … well, apple pie! The 49th annual Apple Pie Baking Contest takes place at noon on Opening Day at the Santa Cruz County Fair at Paddy Smith Park. There are three divisions: Youth 17 and under • Adults 18 and over Masters, anyone who has previously won 1st place in the Adult Division in previous years. Bakers need to impress the panel of judges with their baking skills. Winners will take home cash and ribbons…. along with those sweet bragging rights. Pies need to be brought to Paddy Smith Park (at the Fairgrounds) on Wednesday September 16th between 8:00 AM and 10:30 AM. The Apple Pie Baking Contest is coordinated by the Santa Cruz County Farm Bureau and sponsored by Pajaro Valley apple growers and shippers and related industries.

Opening Day BBQ Bring your appetite on Opening Day! The Santa Cruz County Farm Bureau will again be sponsoring, along with the Watsonville Firefighters Association, the Fair’s Opening Day Barbeque. The Watsonville Firefighters Association will be cooking up a delicious barbecue lunch! On the menu: barbecue tri-tip, ranch style beans, salad, garlic bread and coffee or lemonade. “The barbecue is a tradition to kick off the County Fair. The firefighters do an excellent job in preparing the food. We invite everyone to come to this event,” says Farm Bureau President John Pisturino. When: Wednesday, September 16, 2026. The Barbeque starts at noon and continues until the food runs out (normally 2:30 pm) Where: Paddy Smith Park, between the Fine Arts Building and the JJ Crosetti Building. Cisco Jim As you explore the Fair, if you hear hoofbeats and a song—you’ve discovered Cisco Jim! The Singing Cowboy sits atop Taza de Mogollan. The duo roams the fairgrounds with Cisco Jim singing and telling stories. As a retired educator, Cisco Jim has so much to teach us. Taza is a Spanish Barb, a direct descendent of the first horses brought to the New World from Spain. Cisco is a long-time member of the International Western Music Association. And, he has played the role of “Town Marshal” at Roaring Camp Railroads, in Felton, since 2016. Cisco lives on a small horse ranch in Aromas, California. When you encounter this roving serenade, you’re in for a treat.

Camel Rides Looking for an extremely unique experience? We’ve got it— Camel Rides! Grab a friend, or two, and hop on the back of a Dromedary Camel. Animal fact: Dromedary Camels have one hump and can carry more than half their weight. Their owner, Kyle McGranahan, is a real-life cowboy who used to train horses. Until one fateful day, when a friend asked him to train a camel. He fell in love with the animals and sold his horses. He now works exclusively with camels. The camels enjoy a diet like that of horses- grass, hay, and grain. Contrary to what many people think, the humps of the camels are not filled with water. They’re filled with dense fat. This fat can hold water for up to three weeks, which allows camels to survive for long periods of time without water in the desert. All the camels are extremely docile and enjoy being around people. Climb into the saddle for the ride of a lifetime… and get an awesome photo too!

Diaper Derby & Toddler Contest Forget horse racing, the Santa Cruz County Fair has baby racing! It’s our famous Diaper Derby! The babies inch their way to victory by making a beeline for a parent at the finish line. Some hustle… some just sit… others wander off. Still, it ain’t over ‘til it’s over! You never know which baby will pull off the win. The Toddler Contest moves along a little more quickly. Don’t blink or you’ll miss it! These events have roots in celebrations held in pioneer communities. They were part of the Fair in the late 1800s and early 1900s. Our beloved Fair supporter, Loretta Estrada, gets credit for bringing back these fun-filled races. Enter your baby or toddler— or come and watch! It’s a laugh riot!

Rodgers House

As the sun goes down on the Fair, Friday the 18th, head to the historic Rodgers House for the extra special Twilight Experience. (6pm-9pm). The house takes on a magical glow with low lighting and candles. A gentleman is playing the piano, and staff are dressed in clothing from the late 1880s and early 1900s. The Rodgers House was built in the 1870s by James Rodgers. The house contains archives chronicling its history, including stories of the Rodgers family and the history of the Pajaro Valley. Several notable family photographs feature author John Steinbeck, Esther Rodgers’ brother. One depicts Steinbeck carving the family’s Thanksgiving turkey. The Rodgers House was moved to the fairgrounds in four pieces in late 1998. In addition to the Twilight Experience, guides give tours of the Rodgers House throughout the Fair. When you encounter one of these characters, you’ll find out what a real high five feels like! Karen Quest is a former circus girl with a B.A. in Theatre from California State University, Northridge. She has decades of experience performing in more in 25 states and ten countries.

From Santa Cruz to American Idol-- let’s give it up for James Durbin! For more than a decade, Santa Cruz’s own James Durbin and The Lost Boys have delivered faithful, high-energy performances of rock and dance classics from music’s Golden Era, known as the 70’s and 80’s. Their setlist delivers something for every fan of music! In 2011, Durbin finished in the Top 4 on American Idol! Since then, he’s released six solo albums and lent his voice and songwriting to a dozen more albums and singles with various bands, including Quiet Riot & Alan Parsons. “I am very proud of being a born & raised Santa Cruz local. I’m also very proud to be a 3rd generation resident of Watsonville, as my "Oma & Opa” Shirley Settle & Dr Jim Settle, DDS raised my mom and her 3 sisters in Watsonville. The Santa Cruz County Fair is a staple of my childhood, my Opa was a marching Tuba player in The Watsonville Band for several decades, operating the classic Deep Fried Artichoke food stand at the Fair for many years. All Alaskan Racing Pigs “You Never Sausage a Show!” It all started in the summer of 1987, at the local fair in Fairbanks, Alaska. A speedy troupe of little pigs hit the track for their first race… and the famous All-Alaskan Racing Pigs were off on a grand adventure that continues today. The All-Alaskan Racing Pigs are the ultimate racing machines! The sawdust flies when four of these fuzzy little critters flash out of the starting gates and battle each other for first place. The action goes hog wild when the high hurdles come out! This is an audience participation show... and certain participants take home prize ribbons! Everyone in attendance takes home a memory for life. You can even have your picture taken with one of the racing pigs after the races. Pro tip: Arrive early if you want a good seat at the show– these piggies are very popular! But wait, there’s more! The racetrack also serves as the scene of Pedal Pullers, a competition for kids! Pullers get behind the wheel of a tractor and pedal with all their might to pull as much weight as far as they can!

Los Mismos

Los Mismos is one of the most recognized and enduring groups in Regional Mexican music. Formed in 1996 in Ario de Rosales, Michoacán, Mexico, the band emerged from the remaining members of the legendary group, Los Bukis. The new group adopted the name Los Mismos. It’s Spanish for "The Same Ones,” to emphasize that the core musicians remained intact and committed to continuing the romantic and heartfelt sound that fans had come to love.

To lead the new chapter, the band recruited vocalist Pedro Velázquez. His voice helped bridge the transition while establishing a unique identity for the group. Signed to EMI Latin, Los Mismos released their debut album, Juntos Para Siempre, in 1996. The album produced the hit single "Me Está Doliendo Dejarte," launching the group into immediate success and reaffirming their place among the elite acts in Regional Mexican music.

Escaramuza Charra You’ve probably never seen horseback riding like this! Escaramuza Charra El Centenario is the only female equestrian event in the Mexican Charrería. The escaramuza means "skirmish." It consists of a team riding horses in choreographed synchronized maneuvers to music. The women ride sidesaddle and wear traditional Mexican outfits including sombreros, dresses and matching accessories. A team consists of 16 women, but only 8 ride at a time. The routine is practiced in a circular arena. It’s beautiful and exciting to watch! The escaramuza season runs from February to November. The U.S. nationals are held on Labor Day weekend. The grand finale is held in Mexico. The event brings together more than 80 teams from both countries.

Yesterday’s Farm Presented by the Agricultural History Project “Apple Pies” on the windowsill and “Starry Skies” overhead bring back memories of life on the farm. And there’s a special place on the Fairgrounds where the olden days come to life! When you enter through the main gate, turn right and you’ll find yourself in this quaint place called Yesterday’s Farm, sponsored by the Ag History Project. Here, you’ll enjoy our many exhibits highlighting the history of agriculture on California’s Central Coast. We have a variety of (no cost) hands-on demonstrations and activities for people of all ages. Kids can milk a simulated cow, pump water by hand, learn about how food was prepared back in the day and even drive a full-size antique tractor. Also, visit our Restoration Shop and see the projects we are actively working on. And on your way out, please stop in our Gift Shop to purchase some unique souvenirs. It’s not every day you get to experience a glimpse of life on the farms of yesteryear… we highly recommend it!

Floriculture Department Floriculture is a must-see building! It will delight your senses! When you enter the Floriculture Building, prepare to be enveloped by bright and beautiful shades of purple, pink, yellow, red, orange and green! We’ve got gardens too! The Floriculture Building is a great place to learn ways to grow better flowers and plants and gain ideas to improve your garden design skills. For 2026, the Monterey Bay Dahlia Society will offer daily presentations about how to grow dahlias that will look great in your garden and produce loads of blooms for bouquets and arrangements. We will also have flower arrangement demonstrations, corsage and boutonniere building and Bonsai demonstrations. Stop and smell the roses (and all the flowers) in Floriculture!

Agriculture-Horticulture (Ag-Hort) This is Big! Huge! We’re talking about the giant pumpkins in our Agriculture-Horticulture Department! They weigh hundreds of pounds! Other delicious displays include giant apples, giant zucchinis and creative veggie creatures. There’s even a Best Dressed Vegetable Contest. Agriculture is at the root of the Fair. It’s a very important business and the Fair makes learning about it fun! “So many kids don’t know where their food comes from. It’s fun for them to learn it doesn’t come from the grocery store,” says Kayce Pavlovich, co-chair of the AgricultureHorticulture Committee. Make sure to pop into the Harvest Building… you might even get to sample some fresh produce!

Cole is a senior at Aptos High School, where he maintains a 4.0 GPA. He is a member of the California Scholastic Federation and has earned Scholar-Athlete honors in wrestling, lacrosse, and football. He is an active member of the Agricultural History Project 4-H Club, serves on the Santa Cruz County Fair Junior Livestock Committee, participates in Pajaro Valley Little League, is involved with the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, and volunteers with many other organizations. Since 2018, Cole has raised 12 hogs that have been exhibited at the Santa Cruz County Fair and the Monterey County Fair. He has also raised meat chickens for the fairs’ Poultry Meat Pen division and has participated in rabbit and sheep showmanship at the Santa Cruz County Fair. Cole plans to attend either Cal Poly San Luis Obispo or Cal Poly Humboldt, where he will major in Fire Science beginning in the fall of 2027. “Winning this scholarship is not just about me,” said Cole. “It reflects the values my family, teachers, mentors, and community have instilled in me.” As part of the scholarship, Cole will raise this year’s Heritage Hog, generously donated by Country Hills Feed. The Heritage Hog will be sold at the Junior Livestock Auction on Saturday morning during the Santa Cruz County Fair. Proceeds from the sale will be used by the Santa Cruz County Fairgrounds Foundation to support improvements and ongoing needs within the livestock area at the Fairgrounds.

La Fundación del Recinto Ferial del Condado de Santa Cruz se complace en anunciar a Cole Moules como el ganador de la Beca Heritage Hog 2026 de $3,000. Ragtime Corner Returns Born and raised in Santa Cruz, Kylen deGhetaldi, also known as the “Ragtime Rev” has dedicated his career to preserving the classic American musical styles like ragtime, boogiewoogie and hot jazz/swing. A regular performer in “Trad Jazz: festivals across the country, the “Rev” has also toured internationally as pianist and musical director of the pop sensation Postmodern Jukebox. He is the founder/director of the Santa Cruz Ragtime Festival, which he hopes to revive with the goal of preserving our American musical heritage. Don’t miss Ragtime Corner at Heritage Hall 5pm to 7pm Wednesday thru Saturday at this year’s Fair!

Fine Arts & Poetry The amazing and diverse collection of art, created by this creative community, is always the main event in the Fine Arts building. This year, we will have a new layout of the building and an “Apple Pies and Starry Skies” scavenger hunt! Make a beeline for our Animal Artists display (yes, art made by animals)! Last year, for the first time, we had cats and grubs enter… along with many very talented dogs. Also, glass blower Nathan Bennett will be demonstrating on Friday and Saturday nights, from 7pm-9:30pm. In our Poetry Department, there will be a poetry reading on Saturday at 1pm. Light refreshments will be provided. All who enter are welcome to read… as well as interested fairgoers. Come immerse yourself in art and poetry at the Fair!

La asombrosa y diversa colección de arte, creada por esta comunidad artística, es siempre el evento principal en el edificio de Bellas Artes. Este año, tendremos una nueva distribución del edificio y una búsqueda del tesoro con temática de “Pasteles de Manzana y Cielos Estrellados”. ¡No se pierdan nuestra exhibición de Artistas Animales (sí, arte hecho por animales)! El año pasado, por primera vez, tuvimos gatos y larvas participando… junto con muchos perros muy talentosos. Además, el soplador de vidrio Nathan Bennett hará demostraciones el viernes y el sábado por la noche, de 19:00 a 21:30. En nuestro Departamento de Poesía, habrá una lectura de poesía el sábado a la 13:00. Se ofrecerán refrigerios ligeros. Poster Arts Winner This year, we held a contest… asking community and youth artists to create our 2026 Santa Cruz County Fair Poster Art. And (drum roll, please) the winner is… 17-year-old Watsonville High School student, Alondra Jaramillo-Arreola! Alondra’s poster is a charming, hand-drawn representation featuring all the elements of this year’s theme, “Apple Pies and Starry Skies.” A cute cow and pink pig are picnicking on apple pie beneath a constellation-filled night sky. “Thank you so much for this incredible opportunity. It was an honor being able to participate in this big and well-known community event. Being able to put my work out in this community means so much to me. I was born here and my dream is to become an artist. I can’t thank you enough,” says Alondra. Congratulations to Alondra! We are so happy to feature her artwork at the 2026 Fair— our youth and community involvement is what makes the Santa Cruz County Fair great!

Handspun/Handwoven The Handspun / Handwoven Department is filled with crafters/makers who practice an art as old as time. As long as humans have needed cloth and baskets - spinners and weavers have been there to work their magic of creation. This year, our magic will be on display in the Harvest Building. Don’t miss our exciting “Art in Action” stage. Weavers with small, portable looms and Spinners with various kinds of spinning tools, will show off their talent and answer questions from inquiring minds, young and old! We find school kids have amazingly interesting questions! As in years past, we will be holding our WASCAR Competition on Saturday afternoon. Never heard of WASCAR/? The initials stand for “Wheels And Spindles Creative Arts Racing.” It’s the wackiest, most fun spinning competition you’ve ever witnessed! Spectators are welcome to cheer on the intrepid racers. And if you think you’re up to the challenge, you can join in the mayhem. You’re sure to have a good laugh! Come have a look in the Harvest Building! Ask questions and if you’re adventurous…try your hand at spinning or weaving! There will be lots of helpers to get you started.

This tactile playground offers pure sensory delight as you explore different textures and discover the satisfying world of slime. Apple Pies & Starry Skies Drone Show When the sun goes down on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday evenings, the skies above the Santa Cruz County Fairgrounds will come alive with the spectacular Apple Pies and Starry Skies Drone Show, presented immediately following the Amphitheater entertainment. This year’s breathtaking production features 300 synchronized drones, creating dazzling aerial displays that celebrate the spirit of the Fair. Watch as hundreds of brilliant LED-lit drones perform a computercontrolled “dance,” forming stunning 3D shapes, animations, logos, fair-themed images, and iconic Santa Cruz landmarks up to 400 feet above the fairgrounds—all perfectly choreographed to a custom musical soundtrack. The Santa Cruz County Fair extends its sincere thanks to this year’s Drone Show sponsors: Friday: A-Tool Shed, Saturday: Bogner HVAC Sunday: Santa Cruz County Sheriffs Association The Drone Show begins at approximately 8:45 p.m. each evening and can be enjoyed from nearly anywhere on the fairgrounds. Home Arts As the world moves faster and faster, the Home Arts Department is a place to slow down and re-focus on the lost arts of cooking, canning, sewing, quilting, knitting, needlework and woodcarving… skills that used to be normal, necessities of life. Special events this year in Home Arts: Decorated “Apple Pies and Starry Skies” Cupcake Contest – Thursday 7/17, drop-off by 3pm Giant Cookie Contest – Friday 7/18, drop off by 3pm Salsa Contest – Saturday 7/19, drop off by 3pm Don’t miss a new demonstration, “Tips & Tricks for Gingerbread House Construction and Decoration…” daily from noon-6pm! Also, you get to vote! A “People’s Choice Award” will be handed out in quilts, and other Home Arts exhibits, at the end of each day! You can vote from noon to 8pm, daily. Youth Department Including Quilts of Valor Our local kids are incredibly creative, and the Youth Department at the Fair showcases that creativity in exciting ways. It’s a wonderful blend of art, design, and imagination, featuring detailed displays that truly come to life. Youth from 4-H, FFA, Scouting, and Grange organizations design and build the exhibits you’ll see in Crosetti Hall during this year’s Fair. The department will also feature hands-on crafts throughout the day, giving children an opportunity to create their own projects and join in the fun. Once again this year, the Aptos Grange will host contests to create the best star and the best baked apple. Youth groups can enter through the Youth Department, and winners in each category will receive a $25 prize. The Youth Department is also part of one of the Fair’s most meaningful traditions—Quilts of Valor. During the Opening Ceremonies, a deserving veteran, nominated by family or friends, will receive a handmade quilt. It’s a heartfelt moment that honors our military heroes and expresses our community’s gratitude for their service. The mission of the Quilts of Valor Foundation is to cover Service Members and Veterans touched by war with comforting and healing Quilts of Valor.

Departamento Juvenil, Incluyendo Edredones de Valor

Nuestros niños y jóvenes de la localidad son increíblemente creativos, y el Departamento Juvenil de la Feria exhibe esa creatividad de maneras fascinantes. Es una maravillosa combinación de arte, diseño e imaginación, con exhibiciones detalladas que cobran vida. Jóvenes de organizaciones como 4-H, FFA, Scouts y Grange diseñan y construyen las exhibiciones que verán en el Pabellón Crosetti durante la Feria de este año.
