Forest Lawn names Jenkins new board chair

By Pasadena Weekly Staff

Forest Lawn Memorial-Park Association appointed R. Scott Jenkins to the role of chairman of the board.

Jenkins has served on the board of directors of Forest Lawn Memorial-Park Association since 2003 and assumes this role following the death of John F. Llewellyn, former Forest Lawn Memorial-Park Association board chairman in April.

“We are thrilled that Scott is stepping into the role of chairman after so many years of generous service to Forest Lawn,” said Darin B. Drabing, president and chief executive officer of Forest Lawn.

“His business acumen and natural leadership will be invaluable, as we continue to grow and support our communities. I’m personally grateful to have his steady hand at the helm of our board of directors.”

A San Marino resident, Jenkins is an attorney and partner at Hahn & Hann LLP in Pasadena, where he has worked since 1985. His practice involves general business matters and real estate, with a specialty in land use.

Jenkins is a graduate of the University of Southern California, where he earned his J.D., previously graduating with honors from the University of Berkeley with a Bachelor of Arts in economics.

Active in the community, Jenkins serves on the boards of directors for Huntington Memorial Hospital and Pasadena Tournament of Roses Association (past president). He is also a past president of the San Marino School Board and the Los Angeles Regional Food Bank. Jenkins is active with San Marino Community Church, where is an elder and past president of the Church Foundation.

Jenkins has been honored with awards from the Pasadena Senior Center and San Marino Unified School District and was named San Marino Citizen of the Year in 2002. He and his wife have two grown children and two grandchildren.

Say ‘aloha’ to Dog Haus’ new Honolulu chicken sandwich

The Texas barbecue-style pop-up ZEF BBQ and Dog Haus created the Honolulu hot chicken sandwich, which is available at Pasadena-based Dog Haus through July 31.

The Honolulu hot chicken sandwich combines crispy hot chicken tenders with miso aioli, sweet chili sauce, pickled carrots and onions, scallions and wasabi furikake on a King’s Hawaiian pretzel hamburger bun.

“We’re thrilled to partner with Dog Haus to serve up this delicious new sandwich,” said Logan Sandoval, ZEF BBQ founder and executive chef.

“Dog Haus and ZEF BBQ both love to bring guests not-so-traditional tastes, and the Honolulu Hot Chicken has a flavor profile that guests won’t even know they craved.”

Daddy’s Chicken Shack set for expansion

Daddy’s Chicken Shack signed a regional developer deal to expand to California.

Restaurant operators Blair Salisbury and Robin Bieker signed a 20-unit regional developer deal in the concept’s home state of California.

The duo also owns El Cholo in Pasadena.

Looking to open their first restaurant by year-end, Salisbury and Bieker are eyeing real estate in Santa Clarita and elsewhere throughout Los Angeles County.

“I’ve been in the restaurant industry for as long as I can remember with four generations of restaurant ownership in my family,” Salisbury said.

“At this point, I’m confident in saying that this line of business runs in my blood. Knowing what it takes to run successful operations in this industry, I’m able to recognize a stellar business model when I see one — and Daddy’s Chicken Shack is just that.”

Salisbury’s family established El Cholo in California, while Bieker has 30 years’ experience in the restaurant franchise and commercial real estate fields.

The two joined forces after Bieker became a primary investor in El Cholo and are now committed to Daddy’s Chicken Shack.
