It’s beginning to look a lot like election season, with campaign signs on nearly every major intersection. This week, Peoria voters will decide on many of the faces seen on those ubiquitous posters. In one race with national implications, a pair of Peorians face off: Michael Muscato takes on Rep. Debbie Lesko, challenging for her U.S. House of Representatives seat in the 8th Congressional District. The district stretches from New River to Goodyear, including parts of Peoria, Glendale and Luke Air Force Base. Even with President Donald Trump recovering from COVID-19, his second-in-command planned a campaign visit to Peoria at 11:30 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 8. “Join Vice President Mike Pence for a Make America Great Again! Event in Peoria,” said a website for registration, linked from events.donaldjtrump.com/events. Coming the day after a scheduled debate with Sen. Kamala Harris of California, the Democratic nominee for vice president, the Pence Peoria event was

scheduled for TYR Tactical, at 9330 N. 91st Avenue. In 2017, TYR Tactical in Peoria celebrated a grand opening of its 78,000-squarefoot global headquarters near Loop 101 and Olive Avenue. TYR produces high-end tactical body armor, vests, pouches, backpacks and clothing for law enforcement and special operations. According to the company, lients include the FBI, DEA, U.S. Secret Service, U.S. Marshal Service and many SWAT teams in the Valley, including those from Peoria, Glendale and Scottsdale.
