Two-thirds of voters approved Plan Peoria AZ 2040, which appeared as proposition 445 on the Nov. 3 ballot. This capped more than a year of planning, meetings, writing and rewriting by city of Peoria staff. “We were very pleased with the outcome. This was our third time we had to put a general plan on the ballot. We’ve been very successful here and very fortunate to have a good relationship with our constituents,” said City Planning Director
Chris Jacques. “We’re really appreciative of the support we’ve received from our citizens,” he added. The new plan includes a section on “Activity Centers,” including Old Town, Lake Pleasant, P83 and the Loop 303. “This important future employment growth area straddles the Loop 303 corridor with strategic focus areas at Happy Valley Parkway, Vistancia Commercial Core and at Lake Pleasant Parkway,” part of the plan state. “Loop 303 is important to the northwest portion of the city ... the city has sought to leverage this prime location
for future employment growth and development. “The community consistently identified the area as the future employment core area for Peoria.” This area also has the most potential for growth, starting with the Vistancia development. Vistancia also comes up in a section on master-planned communities of at least 1,300 acres: “These areas go through a separate entitlement process and have unique development standards specific to SEE VISTANCIA PAGE 4
