Hunt ahead in Acacia District race BY CAROLYN DRYER Peoria Times Editor
Results are unofficial as of Wednesday morning, but the early count shows Peoria Acacia District Councilmember Vicki Hunt is ahead by a 4 percent margin, 2,215 (52 percent) votes to 2,066 (48 percent) for challenger Brittany Burback. Late Tuesday evening after the polls had been closed for two hours, Hunt reached out to voters. “I want to thank my husband and family, Mayor (Cathy) Carlat and City Council, firefighters and police and everyone else who worked on, endorsed and supported my campaign, especially business leaders and Old Town residents,� Hunt said. “We’ve made tremendous strides in revitalizing our Old Town, enhancing neighborhoods and decreasing crime rates in our city.

Arizona Broadway Theatre hosts free Veterans Day concert Arizona Broadway Theatre (ABT) will host a free Veterans Day concert – “PROJECT PRESLEY: A Salute to The King!� — starring multi-awardwinning tribute artist, Chance Tinder, on Nov. 11, beginning at 8 p.m. in the newly-renovated Encore Room. The concert for veterans and active duty enlisted service members is sponsored by the city of Peoria. Seating is limited, and reservations will be taken on a first-come-first-serve basis. In another important race for West Valley residents — Congressional District 8 — Republican incumbent Debbie Lesko chalked up an impressive victory over Democrat Hiral Tipirneni. Lesko received 123,681 votes (57 percent) to Tipirneni’s 94,583 (43 percent). From a gathering for Republican office seekers in Scottsdale, Lesko commented on the numbers showing she had received 57 percent of the vote — 123,681 — to Tipirneni’s 43 percent
