Peoria residents are casting ballots through Nov. 5, to determine if the Peoria Unified School District’s maintenance and operations override will pass. If successful, the current 13% override—which provides about $27 million for the district—would be sustained. It would also infuse about $4 million for “people and programs,” according to the website. The increase would be used to fund safety—like counselors and behavior specialists and also increase all staff compensation.

San Diego Padres pitcher Jacob Nix was scheduled to appear in Maricopa County Superior Court for a preliminary hearing Oct. 16, after he was arrested on a charge of criminal trespassing for attempting to sneak into a Peoria home through a doggy door. Nix was arrested, along with fellow baseball player Thomas Cosgrove, on Oct. 6. Cosgrove was charged with criminal trespassing as well. Nix was in town playing for the Peoria Javelinas of the Arizona Fall League. As of Oct. 13, he was not on the roster.
