Rachel Carey to make hometown debut

BY CHRISTINA FUOCO-KARASINSKI Peoria Times Executive Editor

Mountain Ridge High School graduate Rachel Carey learned to skate and competed at AZ Ice in Peoria.

She continued to compete for ASU, and just when she was preparing to graduate, she received an offer of a lifetime: a gig with Disney on Ice.

Carey will return home to perform in “Disney on Ice Presents Let’s Celebrate” at the Footprint Center in Phoenix from Thursday, Sept. 30, to Sunday, Oct. 3.

“I love coming home and spending time with my family and seeing my friends from back home,” said Carey, who teaches ice skating at AZ Ice when she’s not working. “This is the first time I’m performing in Phoenix in the three years I’ve been with Disney on Ice.”

The ice skating show features Minnie Mouse, Donald Duck, Goofy and an ensemble of Disney princesses. Moments from films like Disney Pixar’s “Finding Dory” and Disney’s “Aladdin” and “Beauty and the Beast” will be recreated through 14 classic and modern stories.

Inspired by her sister Chelsea, a fellow skater, Carey is in the ensemble for “Let’s Celebrate,” which kicks off its tour in Phoenix. In the “Toy Story” segment, she stars as Little Bo Peep.

“It’s so exciting, because I get to perform for people and bring smiles to audiences across every show we do,” said Carey, calling from Ellenton, Florida, where she was rehearsing. “It’s fun to skate with all of your friends. It’s such a freeing feeling for me. It’s a good escape.”
