Anthem Rotary to host fundraiser for shooting victim BY ALLISON BROWN Foothills Focus Staff Writer

T

he Anthem Rotary Club is hosting a fundraising event on Saturday, July 30 to support the victim shot in the Andrew Z Diamonds & Fine Jewelry robbery that occurred July 12. The club has organized a car wash, blood drive and T-shirt sale that will take place from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Legends Bar and Grill in Anthem. “Anthem is a very close-knit community,” said David Murphy, a board member for the Anthem Rotary Club. “The businesses support one another, the community members support one another,

and when there’s a tragedy like this or if there’s any time when one of our community members is in need, this neighborhood has a real history and a drive to step up and support one another. This is one of those times.” The need comes after two suspects robbed Andrew Z Diamonds & Fine Jewelry around 6 p.m. July 12. When the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office deputies arrived at the scene, one person was found with a gunshot wound and life-threatening injuries. The suspects evaded police for four days and were arrested in Southern California. They were later identified as Helen Simmons, 18,
