he Desert Ridge Marketplace will welcome seven new tenants to the shopping and lifestyle center this year, from restaurants to a yoga studio. The new tenants include Radi8 Hot Yoga, Keep It Cut, Hand & Stone Massage and Facial Spa, Sid’s Garage, Fly Bye and Artichoke Basille’s Pizza. Many of these stores will be opening before the summer. Further down the line, a Nordstrom Rack is also expected by the end of the year.

Restaurateur named new head of Carefree association BY ALLISON BROWN Foothills Focus Staff Writer
C
arefree restaurateur Mike Fischer said he sees neighboring restaurants as allies, not competitors, and they can all thrive by helping each other. He is taking this community mindset to his new position as head of the Carefree Restaurant Association. Fischer is experienced in the restaurant industry and management and has been the general manager of Keeler’s Neighborhood
Steakhouse since it opened in 2019. In addition, Keeler’s has been part of the Carefree Restaurant Association since it opened. “Being a part of the Restaurant Association gives us as restaurateurs the ability to work together for common goals, share ideas and concepts, and help guide the direction of the future of the dining scene here,” Fischer said. “Carefree offers a very diverse dining scene, with everything from the casual to the upscale, all while holding on to the local ‘flavor’ of being in Arizona.” This change in leadership comes after
Jo Gemmill, owner of the English Rose Tea Room, stepped down from the position. She has served as head of the organization since it started five years ago. “I decided it was time for a fresh face and some new leadership. … It just seemed like a natural progression to hand the reins over to someone else,” Gemmill said about her decision to step down. “I’m still a very active part of the Restaurant Association, but it’s good to change it up and have a different
