Musical Theatre of Anthem presents ‘Seussical’
BY FOOTHILLS FOCUS STAFF
Now one of the most performed shows in America, “Seussical” is a fantastical, magical, musical extravaganza featuring some of Dr. Seuss’ most beloved characters.
And the Musical Theatre of Anthem (MTA) has announced a production of the unforgettable musical caper Thursdays to Sundays from April 21 to May 7.
The cast comprises award winners and nominees ages 11 to adult, while the award-winning production staff includes director/co-production stage manager Sierra Litman, vocal director Lorenzo Slavin, choreographer Lyndsie Clymer and co-production stage manager Jessica Kishbaugh.
Tony winners Lynn Ahrens and Stephen Flaherty (“Lucky Stiff,” “My Favorite Year,” “Once on This Island,” “Ragtime”) have lovingly brought to life Dr. Seuss characters such as Horton the Elephant, the Cat in the Hat, Gertrude McFuzz, lazy Mayzie and Jojo, a little boy with a big imagination.
The colorful characters transport audiences from the Jungle of Nool to the Circus McGurkus and the invisible world of the Whos.
“Seussical” tells the story of Horton, an elephant who discovers a speck of dust that contains the Whos, including Jojo, a Who child sent off to military school for thinking too many “thinks.” Horton faces a double challenge: Not only must he protect the Whos from a world of naysayers and dangers, but he must guard an abandoned egg, left in his care by the irresponsible Mayzie La Bird. Although Horton faces ridicule, danger, kidnapping and a trial, the intrepid Gertrude McFuzz never loses faith in him. Ultimately, the powers of friendship, loyalty, family and community are challenged and emerge triumphant.
Check MTA’s website for up-todate information about ticket purchases and availability, as the theater has made adjustments to audience sizes in order to be in compliance with CDC guidelines.
