Outfest, the Los Angeles-based nonprofit organization dedicated to creating visibility for diverse LGBTQIA+ stories and empowering tomorrow’s artists and storytellers, will be hosting the OutFronts – a five-day digital festival from June 4 to 8. The inaugural event will kick off Pride Month and will bring together the very best in queer episodic television to connect fans with all things LGBTQIA on television and streaming. The festival will include free-to-view panel discssions and exclusive members-only premieres featuring the talent from some of the most exciting LGBTQIA+ programs available on television today. Abbot Kinney Fantastic Film Festival, 7 p.m.
Fantastic films on the coolest street in America. Where the art of film merges with a boulevard famous for fashion, technology and culture. Venice, California was founded by Abbot Kinney and modeled after Venice, Italy. It was designated as a place for artists to come and create. This still stands true today, and this year’s Abbot Kinney Fantastic Film Festival will take place on Aviator Yacht in Marina del Rey. The Beastly Ball is the Greater Los Angeles Zoo Association’s largest and most important fundraiser of the year. Venice Electric Light Parade,
6 p.m. Marcus Gladney created the Venice Electric Light Parade to bring together bike enthusiasts who love to light up their bikes and set out into the night along the beautiful Venice Beach boardwalk. The group meets every Sunday at sunset, at Windward Plaza on the boardwalk, down from the worldfamous Venice sign. Must have safety lights and wheel lights (not required to ride) will be available for purchase. As many as 100 people show up each Sunday night for a chance to join the community for a few hours of fun. Everyone welcome, all ages, all bikes. Take & Make Kit: Ferris Wheel by the Santa Monica History Museum
This kit teaches kids about the history and engineering of the Santa Monica Pier. Through play with paper straws, rubber bands and other items, children learn the basics of building structures. Santa Monica Mosaic: The Pico Neighborhood, 5 p.m.
The Santa Monica Conservancy is thrilled to announce its upcoming lecture focused on the Mexican American community in Santa Monica which will be held on Zoom. Join Santa Monica College professor and Pico native Jaime Cruz as he takes attendees through the various chapters of the district’s evolution, from the early 20th century to present day. Learn about the history of the area’s Mexican business districts and vibrant residential neighborhoods, as well as the challenges this community has faced, including policing and gentrification, urban redevelopment and disruption from the Santa Monica Freeway, which forced out thousands of families. The event is free for members and $10 for the general public. Donations of $45 or more include a one-year membership and free admission to this and future Mosaic lectures.
