VUU gears up for full slate of fall events Valley Unitarian Universalist Congregation hosts a full slate of diverse events this fall, ranging from a Beatles Fest to a series of Beloved Conversations. VUU hosts its annual cabaret event at 7 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 20. This year’s event is a Beatles Fest, with songs ranging from 1964’s introductory “Meet the Beatles” album to “Let It Be.” A four-piece band, led by in-house musician Aleks Izotov, will join approximately 30 musicians and vocalists from within the congregation. Tickets are $10 in advance, $12 at the door and $5 for kids 12 and younger, with a family maximum of $24.
As VUU approaches its 50th anniversary in 2015, the Rev. Andy Burnette examines the congregation’s vision for the future and what impact it will make on the world. Burnette’s presentation, “What Difference Will We Make?,” will be held at 10:30 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 21. A nine-week Beloved Conversations series on “Meditations on Race and Ethnicity” runs from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Sundays from Sept. 21 through Nov. 16. The Beloved Conversations are an exercise in community building, a chance to question and listen and to grow in friendship with others. A class fee of $5 is requested to

Yom Kippur services for Temple Havurat Emet will be held at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 3, at the Sun Lakes Methodist Church, 9248 E. Riggs Rd., Sun Lakes. SLUCC hosts Bible series, pet blessing Sun Lakes United Church of Christ hosts a Hebrew/Old Testament Bible series and a St. Francis Day pet blessing this fall in Sun Lakes. “Understanding the Historical and Cultural World of the Hebrew/ Old Testament Bible,” led by Pastor Vernon Meyer, Ph.D., is held from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Wednesdays, Oct. 2, 9 and 23, at the Sun Lakes Chapel Center, 9230 Sun Lakes Blvd., Sun Lakes. The classes focus on a contemporary biblical interpretation of the Scriptures of the Hebrew/Old Testament Bible and a study of the historical and cultural world of the Old Testament. A free-will offering will be taken. SLUCC celebrates its third annual pet blessing in honor of St. Francis of Assisi at 10 a.m. Friday, Oct. 17, at Sun Lakes Chapel Center. All residents of the South Chandler and Sun Lakes areas are invited to bring their pets and join members of SLUCC as God’s creatures are blessed and celebrated.
